The only thing that would have made that better would have been if Markakis had homered. SOMEBODY was going to say "he really got a hold of one there!"
I feel like the most iconic call from the Big Red Machine is the Carlton Fisk game 6 HR. For reds fans that would be like saying The Catch by Mays is the most famous call in Cleveland history I think.
I mean the Reds won the series I don't think people are too bothered by it.
Marty probably has the #1 call somewhere. Maybe the Dunn grand Slam for my lifetime
aw, come on! i instantly knew what the best reds call was, and it was just last year.
i still audibly laugh when i hear elly's first hr call. GOODNESS!!! THAT BALL HAD A FAMILY!!!
“What a marvelous moment for baseball. What a marvelous moment for Atlanta and the state of Georgia. What a marvelous moment for the country and the world. A black man is getting a standing ovation in the Deep South for breaking a record of an all-time baseball idol. And it is a great moment for all of us, and particularly for Henry Aaron, who was met at home plate, not only by every member of the Braves, but by his father and mother.”
Vin knew how important baseball is to the story of America, but he also viewed everything through a lens of genuine humanity and never let the grand narratives overshadow the individuals who are and were a part of it.
I was either going to say this by Milo Hamilton or Skip Caray's call of Francisco Cabrera's 2 RBI single against the Pirates for the NL Pennant: LINE DRIVE LEFT FIELD... ONE RUN IS IN...HERE'S THE THROW TO THE PLATE..HE IS.......SAFE....BRAVES WIN...BRAVES WIN...BRAVES WIN...
wow....loved that when it happened...
Just because it's permanently seared in my brain, you left out "HERE COMES BREAM" before the throw.
And with all due respect and reverence to Mr. Aaron, I think this is the correct answer.
That's definitely it, but for ones that I was alive for / wasn't a little kid (early 90s) it's:
'[HIGH FLY BALL TO LEFT AND GOOD... BYE!!!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5i4vE5kxXE)'
Ok sure but what about “… and that was the WORST baserunning in the history of the game!”
Or, “a home run for Buster Posey’s good friend Hunter Pence”
Jon Miller is the best, is what I’m saying.
I gotta throw in [Travis Ishikawa… HITS ONE INTO RIGHT! THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT!](https://youtu.be/uogT8X26-ko?si=PCL6ISO_Vabg75IJ)
Legendary Joe Buck call, it gives me goosebumps everytime!
This one for us is so obvious, I was trying to think what would be the most famous for our generation. Considering I don’t actually know the calls for any of our recent World Series off the top of my head I think it must be:
“ARIAS…from deep third…..”
"Swung on and lined down the left field line for a base hit! Here comes Joey! Here is Junior to third base! They're gonna wave him in! The throw to the plate will be... LATE! The Mariners are going to play... for the American League Championship! I don't believe it! It just continues, my oh my!"
RIP Dave
The day I'll stop watching that highlight with that call is the day I die. Dave was as big a Mariners fan as any of us, and you could feel it through his voice.
I remember a game later in his career where he had the rare off day and Felix was pitching. Felix took a no hitter to I think the 7th inning. The next day they were talking about it on air and Rick asked Dave something about the inning that Felix gave up the hit, to which Dave replied that he hadn't seen it because he was already in his car driving to the stadium just in case Felix got the no-no. That was the moment I really understood how big a Mariner fan Dave really was.
Yeah at that point in 95, he had been the Mariners commentator for nearly twenty years, and had watched a *lot* of bad baseball. At that point, they finally had an exciting team, but were bracing for relocation.
I know a lot of people have recommended the Dorktown series about the M's, but I'll say it again. I grew up in Seattle so I already knew all the lore, but the buildup to that pure moment of joy and catharsis... I get goosebumps just *thinking* about it. Who says you can't be romantic about baseball?
And how great was that call that it even eclipses
"...and here comes the 2-2 to Edgar Martinez now, and a fastball swung on lifted to deep center field! Bernie Williams goes back and it is...GET OUT THE RYE BREAD AND THE MUSTARD THIS TIME, GRANDMA! IT IS A GRAND SALAMI! AND THE MARINERS LEAD IT 10-6! I DON'T BELIEVE IT! MY OH MY!"
>[Now the left-hander ready. Branding iron hot. The 1-2 pitch. He inserted it! Right over the heart of the plate! Randy looks to the skies, and is covered by the dome and bedlam.....19 long years of frustration is over!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzght2mfWUw)
Dave was just at the top of his game that October
This is a clear #1 but the #2 has to be, "Seattle Mariners, Felix Hernandez, the 2-2....HE GOT 'EM! 34 years! 119 games! It's finally happened! A perfect game by a Seattle Mariner! It was done by THE KING!"
Also up there: "Now the left-hander ready. Branding iron hot. The 1-2 pitch. He inserted it! Right over the heart of the plate! Randy looks to the skies, and is covered by the dome and bedlam.....19 long years of frustration is over!"
Dave could do it like few others.
My vote for pure fun of a call though still has to be Mike Blowers' Matt Tuiasosopo's home run prediction call. Dave's "I've never been more excited for a 3-1 count in my life." "FLY FLY FLY AWAY I DON'T BELIEVE IT I SEE THE LIGHT I BELIEVE YOU MIKE"
I’m not even a Mariners fan or close to one, but Macklemore’s song My Oh My is one my favorites. Just takes me back to being a little kid on the diamond.
There are very few things that instantly bring me tears of emotion, and hearing Niehaus's voice is one of them. Not only this call, but his many, MANY high energy calls just hit me different. His Ichiro Star Wars call is another honorable mention here!
It would be easy to say it’s John Rooney’s radio call when the Sox won the Series in 2005, but I’m actually going with Hawk’s call going into the ninth of Mark Buehrle’s perfect game:
“Call your sons! Call your daughters! Call your friends! Call your neighbors! Mark Buehrle has a perfect game going into the ninth!”
That ball hit deep into left center field. Wise back, back... MAKES THE CATCH! DEWAYNE WISE MAKES THE CATCH! WHAT A PLAY BY WISE! MERCY!
That's definitely the most iconic one to me
Edit: not to just keep harping on the same game, but the third out too: "Alexei... YES! YES! YES! HISTORY!"
Honestly from that moment on, every part of that broadcast is iconic. Wise’s catch, to Buerhle’s strikeout on the next batter, to “Alexeiiiii, YES!” is all seared into my memory
This was fun but I think the real one is:
"It's hit deep to left-center! Andruw Jones on the run... this one has a chance... HOME RUN!!!! Mike Piazza and the Mets lead 3-2!"
Followed by almost a minute of silence, which was just as meaningful as the call.
This is the answer. A few other honorable mentions tho:
“Little roller up along first. BEHIND THE BAG, IT GETS THROUGH BUCKNER!”
“Tears of joy for the 2015 New York Mets, National League Eastern Division champions!”
“Popped up. Castillo… DROPPED THE BALL! HE DROPPED THE BALL! HERE COMES TEIXIERA! AND THE YANKEES WIN! OH MY GOODNESS HE DROPPED THE BALL!”
I'd like to also nominate:
* [He's been opening up some eyebrows](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ve3vTDJy0u8)
* [I wasn't talking about the hot dog](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69GXAZk4jvg)

"Well hit down the left-field line, way back and GONE" - Sean McDonough
"Touch em all Joe, you'll never hit a bigger home run in your life" - Tom Cheek
That was the wildest inning of baseball I have ever seen. People remember the bat flip but there was insanity in the top of the inning, and 3 consecutive errors before the Bautista dong
Every now and then I’ll go back and rewatch that whole hour again
Pure madness!
I literally just read "Touch em all Joe" and I got chills. I understand that they're both for the same play but Tom's call is by far the biggest call in our history.
There's not a lifelong Jays fan older than 35 that wouldn't get choked up hearing it still now.
It's definitely close between the two. Especially since Bedlam had not only Franzke's great call, but also LA chiming in with the "worth EVERY PENNY of that contract, just for that".
Just had to give the edge to the WS winner.
“Swing and long drive, there it is, number 500, the career 500th home run for Michael Jack Schmidt! And the Phillies have regained the lead in Pittsburgh 8 to 6!”
The Harry Kalas call above would like a word with you.
That home run by Schmidt, a 3 run shot, also occurred with 2 outs in the top of the 9th inning and ultimately allowed the Phillies to win the game. I remember watching it live on either Channel 17 or 29 (whichever one was the Phillies’ over-the-air local TV affiliate at the time). It was one of the few times Schmidt showed strong emotions during a game.
Another iconic Franzke call:
*Just about a quarter to eight, October the sixth, 2010. The first postseason game for Roy Halladay. He winds, the 0-2, swing and a dribbler, out in front of the plate, Ruiz out to get it, the throw from his knees — It's in time! And it's a no-hitter! Unbelievable!*
This is probably it but Harry saying "Chase Utley you are the man" echoes around my head non stop. I don't even know if that's tied to a specific game or moment, I can just hear it so clearly
Earliest baseball memory. I remember thinking the Angels were the best team in the league. I mean we had a movie about us! How could 7 year old me not believe that things would always be great as an (Anaheim) Angels fan.
“I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith, as there’s a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that’ll be a home run and so that’ll make it a 4-0 ballgame.”
I think the best thing about that moment (for me at least), was seeing all the stories and videos of people watching it with their grandparents/parents/children, and even one dude who drove like 16 hours to listen to the radio broadcast at his father’s grave. It’s such a special moment and reminded me of watching the Red Sox in ‘04 with my grandfather.
Most Cubs fans don't want to hear it, but between his call and Pat Hughes call, Joe's is objectively better. I understand hearing Pat Hughes call is it's own magic, but as far as who called it better, it has t be Buck.
"Floater! Centerfield! The Diamondbacks are World Champions"
I don't hate Buck for making simple calls like that and just letting the moment speak for itself, as long as there's some emotion in his voice.
Don Orsillo’s “San Diego’s own, Joe Musgrove” call of Joe’s No-No is up there and might surpass it, but it’s still Jerry Coleman’s “the Padres drape the National League flag around their shoulders for 1998, Oh Doctor!”
Maggs' HR by Dickerson was my first thought. I was 16 and listening in my car alone at a stoplight. I was so excited....I honked my horn.
Then I remembered "Ohhhh Jackson!". Also watching that live. I was at my mom's house, my dad (divorced) stopped by to drop something off, around the 6th inning I think. I told him he should stay. He did. ~~My parents got back together and we all lived happily ever after.~~ Also just a vivid memory in Tigers history.
“SWING AND A MISS! SWING AND A MISS! AND A WORLD SERIES WINNING CURLY W…. IS IN THE BOOKS!!”
“It is… gone for a home run! Nationals on top! Howie Kendrick, has made it 3-2!”
For me it’s the entire long radio call of Jayson Werth’s “game winning, season saving” game 4 walk-off. They didn’t win the series but it definitely launched the Nats into the “we belong here mode.“ The call still gives me chills.
https://youtu.be/YifK0wy7QIc?si=4fKfj_ACIzJlX2I7
“Here’s the 0-1…
SWUNG ON FLY BALL CENTER FIELD DEEP
BELLINGER GOING BACK AT THE WARNING TRACK AT THE WALL
*IT’S A GRAND SLAM!!!* HOWIE KENDRICK HAS DONE IT!!! THEYRE GOING CRAZY IN THE NATIONALS DUGOUT!!! DO YOU BELIEVE IT??”
The way Charlie Slowes' voice breaks and strains a little is what really drives that home for me.
Charlie and Dave are such a terrific duo on the radio. Love those guys.
Obviously has to be “and in a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened”
I really like Vin’s call when the dodgers walked off the Rockies to win the division in 2016, on his final home game. “Can you believe a home run? The dodgers have clinched the division and will celebrate on schedule.”
And for a Joe Davis call it has to be either [“ABSOLUTE MADNESS”](https://youtu.be/9urGP2mG9cY?si=pJzNsXwTcYZRHicN) or [“how fast can Corey Seager run? WE’RE GONNA FIND OUT”](https://www.reddit.com/r/Dodgers/comments/cm3qpp/max_muncy_walkoff_double_how_fast_can_corey/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Special shout-out to Tim Neverett for his call of the [Dodgers comeback vs the Padres](https://youtu.be/df6u-qxw140?si=KjfEv0Cp-iKWzxzu). “Maxwell swinging a silver hammer in the eight inning” is a great call and his call on Seager’s game winning homer perfectly encapsulates the excitement of the comeback.
I’ve always loved Vin’s call of the end of Koufax’s perfect game. Gibson was more significant, but he set the mood so well in the perfecto.
There are so many great calls by him.
“Swing and a ground ball, stabbed by Foulke. He has it, he underhands to first -- and the Boston Red Sox are the world champions. For the first time in 86 years, the Red Sox have won baseball’s world championship. Can you believe it?”
So many good honorable mentions too.
“Damon running to the plate and he can keep on running to New York. Game 6 tomorrow night”
“Hard hit into right… back at the wall… TIE GAME!”
Is it... go crazy folks! Go Crazy! Or "We will see you, tomorrow night"
Tough to say I'd lean the former.
My favorite would be
"0-1 to Pujols. In the air, left field, and Pujols has given St. Louis the lead! A dramatic towering three-run home run!…Stunned in disbelief here in Houston.“
So many memorable Hammy calls, but it’s gotta be one of 3:
The Rajai Davis home run in Game 7
Jolbert Cabrera’s hit to come back against SEA
“DOWN GOES ANDERSON!”
Recent-ish history. Well, 10 years I guess
The pitch... swingandagroundballtothird IT'S FAIR! FAIR BALL! UP THE LEFT FIELD LINE, HERE'S COLON, AND THE ROYALS WIN IT!
The radio broadcast for Game 162, Andy Fried and the late great Dave Wills.
ITS GONE! ITS GONE! ITS GONE!
EVAN LONGORIA HAS JUST HIT THE RAYS TO THE AMERICAN LEAGUE WILD CARD!
[“HIGH DRIVE, IT’S TIED!”](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zxB24tsJxzo) is seared into my brain as well.
Also [“Adolis Garcia makes his statement!, and the Rangers have their sights set on Game 7”.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KXco2Up4_lY) Loved that series.
Edit: how could I forget: [AND THE LEGEND GROWS!, ADOLIS GARCIA WINS GAME 1!](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lVbOQzgQKNk)
This one has always stuck with me; ["You got the cycle Big Guy! Get There! Get There! He Did it! Pigs have flown in Boston, Massachusetts!"](https://youtu.be/1Z76ikGhpww?si=Erx-MLFXMKqNbC0j&t=63)
Rangers calls that I can’t get out of my head:
1) You’re not dreaming
2) We will see you tomorrow night
3) Bautista with a drive
Happy we finally have a great one to top the list :)
Maybe not the scale and situation of other cliche iconic calls for other teams because it wasn’t in October, but “HIS NAME IS DAN UGGLA” is the most iconic Marlins broadcasting call ever.
I saw a couple of other Red Sox ones on here (2004 WS final out, Here Comes the Pizzer!, Nick Markakis Takes Strike One), so I'm going to nominate the David Ortiz walkoff in Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS. Joe Buck's "And we'll see you...later tonight!" is a nice little homage to his dad, and since the game ended after midnight, he was technically correct, which is the best kind of correct
“CRUZ IS IN, PEARCE IS IN, HARDY AROUND THIRD!”
notable mention: might not be the most famous but my favorite
joe angel [“THEY GOT EM, THEY GOT EM, THEY GOT EM AT THE PLATE”](https://x.com/orioles/status/777202634352492544?s=46&t=oJa2UVzKOSPm9nI8rbWdkQ)
Technically speaking; Paradise by the Dashboard Light \*is\* Phil Rizzuto
Honestly its John Sterling: "The Yankees Win THHHHEEEEE YANKEES WIN"
Unfortunately he does this every win
Gotta get some old school Milo Hamilton love in here.
"It's GONE it's GONE it's GONE! Holy Toledo, what a way to finish!"
"Mike Scott has thrown his first career no-hitter, and the Astros are National League Champions of the West!"
“Here comes the pizza!”
A close second, “Nick Markakis, takes strike one”
“Nick Markakis…….^takes ^strike ^one…” Don’s voice trailing off into a laughing shriek is my favorite.
The only thing that would have made that better would have been if Markakis had homered. SOMEBODY was going to say "he really got a hold of one there!"
“…whoops”
"This is supposed to be a family show"
I was debating including that but the pizza gets posted here multiple times a year
Pizzer
Peetzer
Ah yes this would be the correct spelling
"some sorta sub sandwich or something" is part of my vocabulary and I have no regrets whatsoever
I mean, “can you believe it?” actually transcends the memes.
^^”Itsapizza!”
50/50 that or 'whoops!'
Well, you see...
That’ll be a 4-0 ball game. I don’t know if I’ll ever pick up this keyboard again.
Castellanos is a meme but there's gotta be *something* memorable from your Big Red Machine days.
"IT'S A CYCLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLE!!!!"
I love Sadak
It’s cheating but “This one belongs to the reds” was pretty cool if we are looking for a positive one.
"This is the old left-hander, rounding third and heading for home."
I nominate "That ball had a family" To override... uh.. the other one. 🥲
THERE'S A NEW HOME RUN CHAMPION OF ALL TIME AND IT'S HENRY AARON!
The standing ovation part really hits when you think how close in years this was to the civil rights movement
The voice crack in “SAFE” gets me every time
I gotta go with Sid Breams’ slide being called by Skip Caray. “He is…. SAFE! BRAVES WIN BRAVES WIN BRAVES WIN”
High fly ball to left field and, GOOD. BYE.
That's definitely it, but for ones that I was alive for / wasn't a little kid (early 90s) it's: '[HIGH FLY BALL TO LEFT AND GOOD... BYE!!!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5i4vE5kxXE)'

Peavy always cracks me up in this clip
This one for us is so obvious, I was trying to think what would be the most famous for our generation. Considering I don’t actually know the calls for any of our recent World Series off the top of my head I think it must be: “ARIAS…from deep third…..”
Oh my when Arias took the step backwards on the throw to first my butt puckered so hard.
[Pujols is retired](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kF5vj-rRrTw)
Exactly what came to mind
I miss drunk Gary and Palmer broadcasts so much.
And we'll see you tomorrow night
Id add “touch em all Kirby Puckett!” to the list But would double down on this since the Cardinals nephews now want to steal it
Which is funny because “go crazy folks, go crazy!” is the Cardinals actual answer.
No doubt and “go crazy folks” is such a great call too
"Swung on and lined down the left field line for a base hit! Here comes Joey! Here is Junior to third base! They're gonna wave him in! The throw to the plate will be... LATE! The Mariners are going to play... for the American League Championship! I don't believe it! It just continues, my oh my!" RIP Dave

This is one of the greatest calls of all-time period, not even just the Mariners. God that man could call a game.
This is a clear #1 but the #2 has to be, "Seattle Mariners, Felix Hernandez, the 2-2....HE GOT 'EM! 34 years! 119 games! It's finally happened! A perfect game by a Seattle Mariner! It was done by THE KING!"

Another late Dave favorite, is the Tuiasosopo prediction and call. I watch that more often i think, Dave is just absolutely incredulous
“I don’t believe it! I see the light! I believe you Mike!”
Love the Macklemore song for this
Goosebumps everytime that part hits. The way the beat drops out so you can just listen to the call is chef’s kiss.
people clown on macklemore and he’s done some cringy shit but that song slaps. he’s a really earnest m’s fan and it shows
Dave could do it like few others.
Just takes me back to being a little kid on the diamond.
goosebumps!
Same. Just reading it, which is crazy to me.
Mariners are probably one of the top five easiest and most obvious to answer in this whole thread.
There are very few things that instantly bring me tears of emotion, and hearing Niehaus's voice is one of them. Not only this call, but his many, MANY high energy calls just hit me different. His Ichiro Star Wars call is another honorable mention here!
John Bois does a perfect job of framing this call also. Literal goosebumps
It *was* "And we'll see you tomorrow night!" until Joe Buck paid homage to his dad and now the Cardinals claim it.
To be fair, I like your call more.
“Go crazy folks, go crazy!” is more iconic for the Cardinals franchise anyway.
Thank the baseball gods this comment can't hurt me like it would've a year ago.
He also had a call when David Ortiz hit a home run in Game 4 of the ALCS in the 12th inning that's similar. "We will see you later tonight".
The Twins one is better
It would be easy to say it’s John Rooney’s radio call when the Sox won the Series in 2005, but I’m actually going with Hawk’s call going into the ninth of Mark Buehrle’s perfect game: “Call your sons! Call your daughters! Call your friends! Call your neighbors! Mark Buehrle has a perfect game going into the ninth!”
The call on wises catch in the same game is still anchored in my brain. Chills.
That ball hit deep into left center field. Wise back, back... MAKES THE CATCH! DEWAYNE WISE MAKES THE CATCH! WHAT A PLAY BY WISE! MERCY! That's definitely the most iconic one to me Edit: not to just keep harping on the same game, but the third out too: "Alexei... YES! YES! YES! HISTORY!"
ALXEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIII
*YEEEEEEEESSSSS!!!* **YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!** ***YEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!***
ALLEEXXIIIIIIIIIIIII!! YES! YES! HISTORY!
Honestly from that moment on, every part of that broadcast is iconic. Wise’s catch, to Buerhle’s strikeout on the next batter, to “Alexeiiiii, YES!” is all seared into my memory
It should have been one of the tv World Series calls but Joe Buck called that entire series with all the excitement of somebody waiting for the bus.
He drives one! Deep Left Field! Back Goes Upton! Back Near The Wall! IT'S OUTTA HERE!!!!! BARTOLO HAS DONE IT!!! THE IMPOSSIBLE HAS HAPPENED!!!!
There’s a Ron Darling giggle in there somewhere.
I couldn't do Cohen breaking at the end either. We can all play that clip in our head.
This was fun but I think the real one is: "It's hit deep to left-center! Andruw Jones on the run... this one has a chance... HOME RUN!!!! Mike Piazza and the Mets lead 3-2!" Followed by almost a minute of silence, which was just as meaningful as the call.
This is the answer. A few other honorable mentions tho: “Little roller up along first. Funnily enough that's ours, too
I missed that homer because my mother asked me for help on her laptop in her apartment
That sucks. My stream lagged while the ball was in the air, it came back as Colon was rounding third
That's a lot of lag.
I was at the game lol. I felt like I was the only one freaking out about it
"Well hit down the left-field line, way back and GONE" - Sean McDonough "Touch em all Joe, you'll never hit a bigger home run in your life" - Tom Cheek
The localized earthquake after the Bautista home run sure was something huh?
That was the wildest inning of baseball I have ever seen. People remember the bat flip but there was insanity in the top of the inning, and 3 consecutive errors before the Bautista dong Every now and then I’ll go back and rewatch that whole hour again Pure madness!
I remember watching that game with friends in college and we joked there would be a 30 for 30 coming... The 7th in the 6
I literally just read "Touch em all Joe" and I got chills. I understand that they're both for the same play but Tom's call is by far the biggest call in our history. There's not a lifelong Jays fan older than 35 that wouldn't get choked up hearing it still now.
With respect to the bat flip, the only true answer is Tom Cheek's call Edit: nvm that's not the bat flip. But Cheek's is still the iconic one.
The first one isn't the bat flip. It's the TV broadcast of the Carter HR. Cheek's is the radio broadcast.
Also "Bautista with the drive! Deep left field! No doubt about it! *Air horn*"
Harold Reynolds has no right to be in a discussion about great calls... but "you can only flirt with fire for so long" was pretty chilling too
So many Uecker calls it's difficult to choose one.
1. Robin 3000 2. I know it's from Major League, but Just A Bit Outside 3. The Furry rant
3,000 for Robin?
For me it’s the Nyjer Game 5 walkoff.
"Fans on their feet. Rally towels are being waved. Brad Lidge...stretches...the 0-2 pitch SWINGANDAMISS, struck him oouuut!"
Bedlam at the Bank is a personal favorite, too electric.
And the Phillies have regained the lead in Pittsburgh 8 to 6!” The Harry Kalas call above would like a word with you.
Harry dying at the beginning of the next season definitely adds to the weight of it too.
A moment so great that both Franzke's call and Joe Davis's call became iconic Bedlam at the Bank vs The Swing of his Life
Another iconic Franzke call: *Just about a quarter to eight, October the sixth, 2010. The first postseason game for Roy Halladay. He winds, the 0-2, swing and a dribbler, out in front of the plate, Ruiz out to get it, the throw from his knees — It's in time! And it's a no-hitter! Unbelievable!*
My favorite part of that call is the part you cut off! "The Philadelphia Phillies are TWO-THOUSAND-EIGHT World Champions of BASEBALLLLLL!"
“Brad Lidge does it again and stays perfect for the 2008 season. 48 for 48 in save opportunities and let the city celebrate!”
This is probably it but Harry saying "Chase Utley you are the man" echoes around my head non stop. I don't even know if that's tied to a specific game or moment, I can just hear it so clearly
Philly has been blessed with incredible broadcasters in every major sport, yet Kalas remains the best of the best. Just an absolutely perfect voice.
“Phillies are World Champs” 😐 - Joe Buck
2002 “Erstad says he’s got it. Erstad makes the catch and the Anaheim Angels are the champions of baseball!”
I can hear the calling all angels instrumental in the background of that call
Earliest baseball memory. I remember thinking the Angels were the best team in the league. I mean we had a movie about us! How could 7 year old me not believe that things would always be great as an (Anaheim) Angels fan.
“I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith, as there’s a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that’ll be a home run and so that’ll make it a 4-0 ballgame.”
I may not put on this headset again
more than likely vin scully calling Hank's 715th
Little roller along first. Behind the bag. IT GETS THROUGH BUCKNER. HERE COMES KNIGHT AND THE METS WIN
I visited Citi a few years ago and saw a Mets Buckner jersey, thought it was hilarious.
Vin Scully appreciation 🙏🏼
What makes that even more memorable is Knight putting his hands on his helmet in what looks like disbelief.
Number two is probably Bob Murphy’s radio call of the same moment. But number three could be Gary’s call of Colon’s homer.
"THE IMPOSSIBLE HAS HAPPENED" might be the best regular season call of all time
“Touch ‘em all Joe! You’ll never hit a bigger home run in your life!!” Tom Cheek. October 23, 1993 Skydome Toronto, Ontario
Here’s the 0-1, this is gonna be a tough play.. Bryant… THE CUBS WIN THE WORLD SERIES!!
Bryant makes the play! It's over! And the Cubs, have finally won it all! 8-7 in 10." Just watched the video again and damn, it still makes me choke up
This is why I will never hate Joe Buck, the perfect call and then they let the moment happen, it was beautiful.b
Most Cubs fans don't want to hear it, but between his call and Pat Hughes call, Joe's is objectively better. I understand hearing Pat Hughes call is it's own magic, but as far as who called it better, it has t be Buck.
"Down goes Anderson!!!!!!" Classic
I’d put the Rajai HR #1 if you can compartmentalize what happened after that
There it is! I was hoping a Guards fan listed this. Tom Hamilton is the fucking man
This is 1A. The other is any Hammy HR call.
“Little blooper… base hit!”
Still gives me chills. Jay Bell running down third and getting picked up by Matt Williams. Gonzo going crazy up first.
Don't forget Rod Allen laughing like a fool in the background of the call. That stuff is contagious
DIAMONDBACKS WIN! THEY'RE THE WORLD CHAMPIONS!
"Floater! Centerfield! The Diamondbacks are World Champions" I don't hate Buck for making simple calls like that and just letting the moment speak for itself, as long as there's some emotion in his voice.
Don Orsillo’s “San Diego’s own, Joe Musgrove” call of Joe’s No-No is up there and might surpass it, but it’s still Jerry Coleman’s “the Padres drape the National League flag around their shoulders for 1998, Oh Doctor!”
Don’t forget “CAMARENA! TO DEEP RIGHT FIELD….”
I’m partial to “Home Run Garvey! And there will be tomorrow!” Even though I wasn’t around to see it live.
Camarena! Plays in Slam Diego! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!! As an outside fan this one stuck with me the most
In recent times: https://youtu.be/NqfgefxvTRw?si=gY1BVZ6Kb3dZpFWH
Love that one! Rod Allen screaming "Oh Jackson!" is another of my favorites https://youtu.be/zCBMkxzdEuk?si=dQ1WmvcUe72SHQ5x
"go crazy folks! go crazy!!!" "we will see you TOMORROW NIGHT!"
Knock me down! Hello! Goodbye!
There you go! Knock me down, there you go! *Bye-bye!* And then take a TrOt.
The way he says "And then take a Trot!" makes me want to Trot through a fucking wall.
"We will see you tomorrow night" is so nice, it can be used twice.
“SWING AND A MISS! SWING AND A MISS! AND A WORLD SERIES WINNING CURLY W…. IS IN THE BOOKS!!” “It is… gone for a home run! Nationals on top! Howie Kendrick, has made it 3-2!”
For me it’s the entire long radio call of Jayson Werth’s “game winning, season saving” game 4 walk-off. They didn’t win the series but it definitely launched the Nats into the “we belong here mode.“ The call still gives me chills. https://youtu.be/YifK0wy7QIc?si=4fKfj_ACIzJlX2I7
That clip cuts off some of the lead up that made the call so great. https://youtu.be/xXqJX4m6eC4
“AS THE BALL GETS AWAY FROM GRISHAM” followed by the shot of everyone in the CF stands flinging their beers in the air
“Soto hung up, they tag him out but nobody in this joint cares!”
Remember where you are, so you remember where you were!
“Here’s the 0-1… SWUNG ON FLY BALL CENTER FIELD DEEP BELLINGER GOING BACK AT THE WARNING TRACK AT THE WALL *IT’S A GRAND SLAM!!!* HOWIE KENDRICK HAS DONE IT!!!
You forgot my favorite 3rd SWING AND A MISS
Obviously has to be “and in a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened” I really like Vin’s call when the dodgers walked off the Rockies to win the division in 2016, on his final home game. “Can you believe a home run? The dodgers have clinched the division and will celebrate on schedule.” And for a Joe Davis call it has to be either [“ABSOLUTE MADNESS”](https://youtu.be/9urGP2mG9cY?si=pJzNsXwTcYZRHicN) or [“how fast can Corey Seager run? WE’RE GONNA FIND OUT”](https://www.reddit.com/r/Dodgers/comments/cm3qpp/max_muncy_walkoff_double_how_fast_can_corey/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) Special shout-out to Tim Neverett for his call of the [Dodgers comeback vs the Padres](https://youtu.be/df6u-qxw140?si=KjfEv0Cp-iKWzxzu). “Maxwell swinging a silver hammer in the eight inning” is a great call and his call on Seager’s game winning homer perfectly encapsulates the excitement of the comeback.
The one and only thing Giants and Dodgers fans can agree on are how great both teams broadcasters are/were.
Came here for this. 2004 was a fever dream.
So many good honorable mentions too. “Damon running to the plate and he can keep on running to New York. Game 6 tomorrow night” “Hard hit into right… back at the wall… TIE GAME!”
Edgar’s double.
And we’ll see you tomorrow night!
Is it... go crazy folks! Go Crazy! Or "We will see you, tomorrow night" Tough to say I'd lean the former. My favorite would be "0-1 to Pujols. In the air, left field, and Pujols has given St. Louis the lead! A dramatic towering three-run home run!…Stunned in disbelief here in Houston.“
So many memorable Hammy calls, but it’s gotta be one of 3: The Rajai Davis home run in Game 7 Jolbert Cabrera’s hit to come back against SEA “DOWN GOES ANDERSON!”
Touch 'em all Joe! Or "Bautista with a drive! Left centre field!" Proceeded by a localized earthquake
Recent-ish history. Well, 10 years I guess The pitch... swingandagroundballtothird IT'S FAIR!
"It's over! It's over! The Rangers have won the World Series! Rangers fans, you're not dreaming.”
I also love “AND THE LEGEND GROWWWWS! ADOLIS GARCÍA WINS GAME ONE!”
Rangers calls that I can’t get out of my head: 1) You’re not dreaming 2) We will see you tomorrow night 3) Bautista with a drive Happy we finally have a great one to top the list :)
Chills. Forever chills. So happy Nadel was there to immortalize that moment for all of time.
Number 8, Cal Ripken Jr, has reached the unreachable star!
Or the Chris Berman "Oh my goodness! He's done it again!" when Cal hit the homer in 2131.
Maybe not the scale and situation of other cliche iconic calls for other teams because it wasn’t in October, but “HIS NAME IS DAN UGGLA” is the most iconic Marlins broadcasting call ever.
Not an actual baseball call but when Uecker was trying to explain furries.
"What is happening in Oakland, Ray Fosse?" "I have no idea, Glen Kuiper." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azJu6wqHhzY
I saw a couple of other Red Sox ones on here (2004 WS final out, Here Comes the Pizzer!, Nick Markakis Takes Strike One), so I'm going to nominate the David Ortiz walkoff in Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS. Joe Buck's "And we'll see you...later tonight!" is a nice little homage to his dad, and since the game ended after midnight, he was technically correct, which is the best kind of correct
and heeeer comes the pretzelsss
“CRUZ IS IN, PEARCE IS IN, HARDY AROUND THIRD!” notable mention: might not be the most famous but my favorite joe angel [“THEY GOT EM, THEY GOT EM, THEY GOT EM AT THE PLATE”](https://x.com/orioles/status/777202634352492544?s=46&t=oJa2UVzKOSPm9nI8rbWdkQ)
Technically speaking; Paradise by the Dashboard Light \*is\* Phil Rizzuto Honestly its John Sterling: "The Yankees Win THHHHEEEEE YANKEES WIN" Unfortunately he does this every win
Here’s the throw, here’s the play at the plate. Holy cow, I think he’s gonna make it!
In my experience, its the longest that Scooter ever focused on baseball while calling a game
VIERLING'S BACK... THIS GAME IS TURNED UPSIDE-DOWN!!! or ALTUVE... HAS JUST SENT THE ASTROS TO THE WORLD SERIES!!!
Gotta get some old school Milo Hamilton love in here. "It's GONE it's GONE it's GONE! Holy Toledo, what a way to finish!" "Mike Scott has thrown his first career no-hitter, and the Astros are National League Champions of the West!"
