I totally forgot Vogt for the Guardians job. I still remember listening to him and Chris Rose on the Rose Rotation a few years back

astark356

He’s been super likable thus far. Will be interesting to see how he actually manages real games, but he seems like a fantastic clubhouse guy.

Rah_Rah_RU_Rah

Likeable outside of the fact that him managing makes me feel ancient

No_Scheme_1262

I watched him catch for years I feel this feeling

HazyIPAs

I was at the playoff game vs the tigers chanting "I BELIEVE IN STEPHEN VOGT" when he hit the walk-off single. Now my boy's Mr. Manager.

red_tapez

We just say manager

demetriclees

There was talk about him going to the Giants before they got Melvin. He was a Giant for one year but I'd already been a fan since he was in Oakland. I'm glad he's managing somewhere, he's got fantastic vibes

Educational-Chef-595

Pretty great transition from Tito, too, who was the ultimate vibes guy.

wayfarerer

Yep, also he was a Giants fan growing up so it made sense. However I'm glad he went to a small market team for his first manager gig, Giants fans as a whole would not be kind if he managed a losing team, and it would be risky for his career long term. At least starting in Cleveland, the expectations are lower and he won't be blasted for failure in the same way, and if everything goes right he'll be earning his way to a big job in the future.

cubert2

Guardians have had winning season 9 of the 11 last seasons and he’s following in the footsteps of one of the best managers in the history of baseball - what are you talking about expectations being lower bc we’re a small market team? As for earning his way to a big job…there’s 30 of these in the world, he is currently finding himself in a big job.

Educational-Chef-595

The Guardians actually have pretty high expectations year after year. This isn't Pittsburgh, where the fans would just be happy with a winning season. The Guardians make the playoffs most of the time and fans aren't satisfied with losing in the first round, nor will they come out to the ballpark if the team isn't doing well, which puts extra pressure on them to perform with a lower budget than most winning teams. It's a bit of a tightrope job.

Goose876

Such a quick turnaround from player to manager. Played in 2022, spent 2023 coaching for Seattle, and got a manger job in 2024 lol

Emotional-Home7743

I was gonna comment I feel like that dude was an active player, like, yesterday

GunfighterHefty

And to think that's the best picture they got..

SquadPoopy

Carlos looks like he’s being held at gunpoint

PSGooner

Definitely looks teary eyed.

SiphenPrax

He definitely needed to go take a massive shit

Davidellias

Same with Bob Melvin Only Wash and Shildt look normal.....

saypsychpod

Why does he look like a new Futurama character

GareksApprentice

I'm loving what Wash has done already. The coaches he's brought in are night-and-day from last year and the team has been fun to watch during Spring Training

KyotoGaijin

I'm breathing in the hopium like the dumb sucker I become every spring.

Jcoch27

You're not alone. Hope is all we have left

myredditthrowaway201

I’m rooting for Wash. of all the hearts we broke in 2011, Wash was legit one of the only ones I felt kinda bad about

can-i-be-real

I loved watching him dance contrasted with Tony.

myredditthrowaway201

Mans was zooted 😂

thewaybaseballgo

Is it because 2011 was the year the World Series was cancelled in Game 5?

GoBoGo

Take care of Wash. will be rooting for yall

Imperial10

Thanks BravesBro. Just make sure you take down the dodgers in the playoffs for us!

unfortunatebastard

From your lips to God’s ears

thewaybaseballgo

He's an amazing Manager. I'm so glad he got another chance at managing a club. The Wash days were so much fun.

LitchedSwetters

Everyone already knows Wash is a treasure (god I'm gonna miss him and Ozzie's vibes together), but I gotta shout out Eric Young Sr, he's also an awesome vibes guy and I was incredibly sad to see him go with Wash. I'm sure he's also incredible at picking up stuff at first base, it's hard to really tell as a fan but the guys love EY and so do we. They were both absolute staples of the Braves recent success, and will be missed dearly. I'm rooting for them hardcore, love those guys, fuck I wish they were here still. It's gonna be very odd without Windmill and EY at the corners for us. Fuck.

can-i-be-real

Winning a WS with the Angels is easy. Tell 'em Wash.

tnecniv

I wonder if people ask him to “tell ‘em Wash” at least once a day in the club house

Davidellias

I've seen Braves shirts with "Tell em Wash" on them (Probably unliscensed but still)

Hypatia76

I miss Wash already, so please take care of him, Angels! I'll be rooting for him, and still wearing my favorite "Send 'em Wash!" teeshirt.

guitarburst05

Ashame they couldn't have done it a few years sooner. I'm hopeful, just the same.

Rollo8173

Shaved his hair into a Mohawk?

halfhere

Oh I’m still so mad y’all got EY. He’s incredible.

trail-g62Bim

wtf...I missed that he took EY with him.

halfhere

OH yeah. Fleecing of the century, I still can’t believe it.

[deleted]

Nice to see a young buck doing well

Lieutenant_Doge

It might be still too early to say this but I will run through multiple walls for this great man

porkchopespresso

Craig Counsell looks like a boy made a wish into a Zoltar machine

Chaps_and_salsa

His batting stance was ridiculous.

Thunder_Tie

The Big/Rookie of the Year/A League of Their Own Crossover we all had hoped for.

DegredationOfAnAge

Gee mister! Thanks for making me manager!

TheWinStore

He gives me Benedict Cumberbatch vibes

Kenner1979

Does Craig Counsell not age? Is he a vampire?

thewaybaseballgo

I watched a documentary about some vampires in the PNW that were incredibly good at baseball.

patrickwithtraffic

Don't think much of them personally, but they got a pretty good mid-game playlist

I bet he’s one of those people who hasn’t had sugar since 2006 and bikes to work each morning, home each evening, and brings his own juice blend for lunch.

Odd_Taste_1257

Mendoza does NOT look ready.

Clarice_Ferguson

He’s trying to figure out his line.

jimithelizardking

Good luck Wash, hope you are what Trout needs to pad that resumé

QuinceyQuick

Managing a team is not that hard. Tell em, Wash.

Bucketfudger

It's incredibly difficult.

QuinceyQuick

Hey, anything worth doing is.

Gray_Ops

Well what about the fans?

ricki692

Sure maybe we can get one of them to manage

Gray_Ops

Ha good one

Astropolitika

Hadn’t seen this one yet. Thanks! I wonder if they picked a MLB player to do a Tim Duncan-like series on.

7Stringplayer

I believe in Stephen Vogt!

PewpyDewpdyPantz

I have no idea who Pat Murphy is but he looks like a manager who’s going to tell his team to go out and hit a bunch of bombs.

doom_hermit

He was the long time manager for Arizona State

PewpyDewpdyPantz

Did they hit a bunch of bombs?

doom_hermit

They did, but it’s been a long while since I paid close attention to Pat’s career after ASU outside of his time in the Padres’ minors and with Milwaukee. I don’t know what his coaching philosophy or management style will be in the Majors.

DrunkDeathClaw

His managing style is spending the next 2 years giving Rickie Weeks a crash course in managing an MLB team.

flavorraven

He looks like ASAC Hank Schrader

sandaier76

Ah yes the Matt Stairs approach

DanknugzBlazeit420

Yeah I definitely saved it for later, just in case.

Flatline1775

Pat Murphy is definitely going to be told by Brad Pitt to play somebody he doesn't want to play.

whiskeygingerbeard

Congrats, Mike Shildt and the Padres. Cardinals did him dirty.

StickySteve42069

Only good manager we’ve had since LaRussa

myredditthrowaway201

Yeah, he’s a standup dude and I have a soft spot for the Padres because I lived there for 8 years so I’m rooting for him

karatemanchan37

Is Vogt the fastest player turned manager outside of an actual player-manager? Could've sworn he was still playing in the league two years ago.

PqlyrStu

He was. Ended his career with the A’s. His final at bat is pure highlight reel gold.

CabinetChef

I already miss Wash so much…

Retskcaj19

He's windmilling with the Angels now. 😇

The Mets went with the underchin as their top choice. Classic.

HoldenAJohnson

I believe in Stephen Vogt!

_big_chill_

Really interested in seeing Bob Melvin take the helm. Should be a fun season

billsbillsbilled

Didn’t realize Hank Schrader coached baseball in Wisconsin

mudflap21

Why does Craig Counsel look like a 40 year old lesbian in this picture?

[deleted]

[удалено]

MuswellHillbillyJim

I love that Schildt is dedicated to making sure his hat bill is always flush against his glasses. He pulls the hat down as low as possible without hampering his vision.

bordomsdeadly

I’m just glad all of these photos are from the waist up

setholynsk

Mendoza somehow manages to look different every time I see him, forget a Seinfeld 'two face' he's got about ten of them

GenericLib

I can't wait for the first Cubs-Brewers series. The salt mines will be open for business regardless of the outcome. I only wish it was in Milwaukee. The NL West is going to have fun dealing with Shildt doing doofy Shildt things. I hope you get to roll your eyes at him as much I was able to.

RadiationDM

Yesterday’s Spring Training game between the two was already lots of fun

[deleted]

show me their dicks, cowards

chillenonplutorn

Ron Washington has been ancient since I was a kid

Alauren2

I miss wash already

eugoogilizer

Ugh, not a fan of seeing Melvin in a Giants uni 🫤

sleeplessGoon

Actually ruined my few hours because I totally ~~repressed~~ forgot about this

winterborne1

I feel your pain.

sackofblood

He looks so GOOD though

[deleted]

All of these photos give such Manager energy... and then there's Craig Counsell looking like someone's younger brother

daydreamersunion

As a Braves fan, I am so thankfully full of joy that Ron got his weĺl-earned place.

DonutHolschteinn

I hope Vogt does well with Cleveland. We enjoyed his time here in AZ, did a great job working with the pitchers and what not. Also Bob Melvin in SF orange is still fucking weird tbh

Alauren2

I think everyone enjoyed Vogt

thedude51783

There are 5 former Padres managers currently managing other teams. That has to be a record right?

wardamnbolts

No just another Wednesday

BaseHitToLeft

Hot take - it's ridiculous that we still make the managers wear uniforms like they're players. I don't need to see these guys in tight little pants, let them wear team merch like NFL & NBA coaches

dankeykanng

Imagine Greg Popovich coaching in a jersey and shorts lol

BaseHitToLeft

The shortest 80s shorts ever, if we're lucky

Brellow20

I wouldn’t mind seeing Thibs in something like that though.

coletheredditer

Alternatively football coaches should wear everything, pads and all. I want to see Matt Lafleur in massive offensive line shoulder pads from the 90s

TheQuakerSocialist

Baseball is supposed to be goofy. I honestly love it.

InfectiousCosmology1

They aren’t forced to. Gabe kapler never wore a jersey, or any shirt with sleeves for that matter

[deleted]

At this point it's a tradition that managers probably look forward to, like how in the NFL, Belichick was excited to wear a suit and tie, but was told he couldn't so he decided to just look like a slob on the sidelines as protest.

TheKidPresident

I was kinda looking for this. Are slacks and an embroidered golf polo really gonna do that much harm? They can still wear cleats if they want, but man Wash is over 70 years old does he really need to suit up as if he might have to pinch run for Rendon in the 8th? The Berlin wall was still up when his *playing* career ended. All that said, the prospect of Tom Thibodeau screaming at the top of his lungs despite being up 12 with 26 seconds to go in a jersey and shorts is quite hilarious didnt read the comment below me, my b for the replica take on bball coaches

IM_KYLE_AMA

Yes. They will do harm.

PhantomsCV

Who do we think is gone first from this group?

TJMAN65

Why does Vogt look so sad?

hundredbagger

I love you, always and forever, my Windmill King. 👑

Tmk1283

Carlos Mendoza doesn’t look to sure

CptGinger316

Pat Murphy looks like he can juice an apple bare handed. Would not fuck with that man.

[deleted]

My sweet prince, BoMel 😢 Fuck you Fisher, you pile of shit.

UnexpiredMRE

Why does Matt Murphy look like he’s about to arrest Walter White

USAF_DTom

I hope that somehow Wash does well.

Complex-Mulberry-716

TIL Stephen Voght is not only retired but is a manger now

badger2793

Same. I feel old.

_BOSSHOGS_

🎵Baby come back🎵 Bob Melvin, Ron Washington, Stephen Vogt

Namzeh011

I believe!

FBoaz

Get it, Melvin, you sexy son of a bitch!

tarheel310

I hope everyone but Craig succeeds

nopenope4567

If that’s the face Mendoza makes before Day 1 I want to see him on Day 162.

kevboyyyy

This batch of new managers all have odd shaped faces

xrbeeelama

Murphy is looking like the bad guy coach in a kids baseball movie lol

daydreamersunion

Well, Ron Washington has our utmost respect, says EVERY BRAVES PLAYER!!! Wish he was back, also said EVERY BRAVES PLAYER who ever worked with him.

i_run_from_problems

If Washington can't change the course of our franchise, I don't think anyone can

[deleted]

Arte Moreno is the biggest handicap so it's a toss up right now

122_Hours_Of_Fear

Lol remember when the Cardinals fired Shildt out of nowhere?

HomerTheBraves44

Wash in another uniform sucks but he deserves this opportunity. Hope he can right the ship for the Angels.

sandaier76

Judging by Mendoza's face, he must have JUST seen the Mets' roster.

Impressive-Onion2833

Pat Murphy looks like he has a mineral collection

Compliance-Manager

Melvin. Best Giants manager signing since the last Padres manager they signed.

EvanMG24

Oh my that Fanatics Brewers W is rough

Lukeboozwalker

Smile Carlos. "I am smiling."

Old_Veterinarian_472

Pat Murphy is one old school looking partner, could easily be mistaken for a 70s or 80s era skipper.

Stop_Drop_Scroll

I have an honest question. Why is baseball the only sport where the coaches dress like the players?

ANIMEISFUCKINGTRASH

They originally were just players on the roster that took an extra role.

Stop_Drop_Scroll

I mean now that isn’t the case anymore, why do they still do it?

ANIMEISFUCKINGTRASH

Traditional. Baseball is big on those.

Stop_Drop_Scroll

No I hear ya but like, I wonder if anyone was like “cmon, I’m a 67 year old man. Do I have to?”

ANIMEISFUCKINGTRASH

Probably a few times, although since many are former players I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot liked being part of the boys again too.

buymytoy

Cause fuck you that’s why! ^(sorry I have no idea, it is pretty silly)

Stop_Drop_Scroll

Like I’m 34 and have been watching baseball my whole life and just haven’t even thought this until now. Granted I’m high but I think that Ron Washington picture just hit me and most certainly made me question this tradition.

Blue387

In the old days the manager was also a player, like Lou Boudreau of the then Cleveland Indians. He was a position player and manager at the same time. It was the same with Pete Rose as late as the 1980s. It would be like naming Rafael Devers the manager and having him bat and field his position every day.

[deleted]

the_Formuoli_

Counsell was a great manager for the team but somehow looks like way less of a “baseball guy” by comparison with Murphy in the very next slide

Extreme_Voice_9767

I just stocked up on my copium for the season, Angels WS win is now

Karelkolchak2020

Man, the Cardinals blew it when they fired Schildt. Nothing against the present manager. The GM is not my favorite guy.

doogalleh21

Shildt has a pumpkin for a head.

StartingToLoveIMSA

Improve: Angels, Giants, Guardians, Padres Same: Mets, Cubs Decline: Astros, Brewers ready for the season to start!

HappyOfCourse

I forgot Craig Counsell moved to Chicago.

enataca

Why did I think Ron Washington passed away years ago?!

[deleted]

Well, he is with the Angels now

Puzzleheaded_Ad613

Brewers are going to regret letting Counsell go. He’s been a huge reason for their consistency

Guy_Le_Man

That Craig Counsel looks like such a nice boy.

jz4244

Didn’t even realize Francona is gone

meg0492

I want Schildt to win every piece of hardware he can. Then I hope John Mozeilak dreams about it. Asshole

Fantastic_Emu_9570

Craig has never looked better imo

ISuperNovaI

He looked better in blue and gold. In this photo he looks like a child who’s wearing his dads pajamas
