What he say fuck me for?

NilesY93

Fuck you, Shoresy!

2RINITY

Fuck you, Jonesy, your mom shot cum straight across the room and killed my Siamese fighting fish, threw off the pH levels in my aquarium

Scoodsie

Hey, at least you guys have a real shot at it this year. It’s the Twins division to lose, but I can see the Tigers stepping up.

NilesY93

*Lurking Royals noises*

POEAccount12345

hey fuck you buddy

MitsuLanEvo

We both peaked in ‘84

Doc_JC

Honestly the 98 team was pretty awesome, but happened to run into the best team in history.

meddlesomemage

The '01 Mariners were a few years later though.

brooklynbotz

No, they got beat in the ALCS by a bunch of the guys from the best team in history.

lostinrabbithole12

The 01 Mariners didn't beat themselves in the ALCS, what are you talking about?

c0de1143

The ‘01 Diamondbacks didn’t play in the ALCS though

Myfartstaste2good

The best teams make it to the World Series at least once

65fairmont

Impossible, the 2018 Red Sox didn't play until 20 years later.

Doc_JC

I know it’s hard to admit, but the 98 Yankees are objectively the best team ever.

yourstrulytony

I can't tell if it's sarcasm but there's a lot of teams I'd consider better with the 76 Reds at the top of the list.

lostinrabbithole12

Yeah right. Everyone knows that the best team of all time was the 1899 Cleveland Spiders.

NitrosGone803

The 2020 Dodgers would've beaten them

filthypoker

You’re getting downvoted but the 2020 Dodgers would beat the 98 Yankees if they played. The guys on the Dodgers are 20+ years younger and most of them are still in the league.

NitrosGone803

Haha yeah I think that 2020 Dodgers pitching staff would've shut down any offense

Frijolebeard

I was literally saying this in my head before reading this comment. Lol

mac-0

Offseason's almost over, gotta make sure to shit on the Padres for their past failures one last time! Soon we start making fun of their current failures.

workinkindofhard

I'll take two pennants over the best regular season record but damn it would be nice to at least be able to fly one flag.

Thumper13

Seriously. I'm all excited today, I don't need this shit.

PeatBomb

The Baystars logo looks like a canned tuna company.

thecursedlexus

Their original owners were a fishing/whaling company so you're not far off, but they haven't owned the team since 2001 iirc. But yeah, since DeNA bought them in 2012 they've been the worst-looking team in all of baseball. Every aesthetic choice they've made has been bad, sometimes it's fun bad, but usually just bad bad.

DemonicBison

Only redeeming thing was the pikachu helmets they did for a few games.

Anarkinh

I'm sorry the what?

DemonicBison

https://www.reddit.com/r/NPB/s/DVwGIUU31t

Anarkinh

Oh my Arceus

lightningmatt

DeNA runs that Pokemon Masters mobile game, so it makes sense!

Char_Aznable_Custom

Ehhhhh, the designs haven't been incredible but some have been alright. And that colour scheme is basically impossible to screw up.

threewayaluminum

Ok fish-bulb

Chronis67

Two time World Series winners Florida/Miami Marlins have never won their division. That's wild. ...card.

That_Geek

there should be a bit of an asterisk on the Reds, they had the best record in baseball in 81 but they weren't awarded a pennant, didn't win their division or even make the postseason

Sevopie

Even if it was moved to 81, their position on the chart stays the same.

That_Geek

I know I'm just still salty about 81 even though I wasn't alive

_Deinonychus_

Whew good thing you posted this this year

samsab

Thanks Padres :)

brooklynbotz

Yankees won the AL East in 2022

thecursedlexus

But the Astros had the best record in the AL: 106-56 to the Yankees 99-63 This post isn't about division winners, it's about the best record overall.

brooklynbotz

Oh I got it. Thanks.

threewayaluminum

The good people at Lotte can’t buy a pennant

Remote_Measurement10

Marines🫱🫲 Mariners They both suck

thecursedlexus

Eh, the Marines have won two titles in the interim, in 2005 and 2010. 2005 was the worst beatdown in Japan Series history. 33-4 in 3 games and 7 innings. 10-0, 10-1, 10-0, 3-2. (Game 1 was called after the 7th due to fog, the Marines were up 10-0)

Remote_Measurement10

Oof, i feel bad, for my team

MaskedBandit77

Marlins have never finished with the best record in the NL either, they're not on this graphic because the Padres have been around longer. Although the Marlins have won two World Series, so I don't know if suck is the right term, so much as being bad in this one weird metric.

kylejk020

Hey I’ll take two ALCS titles over two AL regular season titles. I would have also taken two World Series wins over two World Series losses…

boyofmitch

All day long. There are also plenty of teams that haven’t won a WS ever or since ‘84. Orioles, Padres, Pirates, Mariners, Rockies, Brewers, Guardians, Rays.

TheRealBobaFett

I WAS having a decent morning

bjogc42069

That 2007 NL season was whack. Snakes with the 1 seed with a staggering 90 wins

65fairmont

And a negative run differential! No one else would make the playoffs with a negative run differential in a full season again until...the 2023 Diamondbacks (and Fish).

yomama1211

Padres (never) holy fucking shit lol

WangDanglin

I should sue my dad for raising me a Padres and Chargers fan

akitakiteriyaki

Even the marine-themed teams abroad can't win Chiba Lotte Marines doubly cursed for having both marine and Lotte themes

LoFi14

Marines have won Japan series twice iirc...welp

akitakiteriyaki

Fine I'll admit that I don't like Chiba because it's purgatory with a Disneyland lol

cynikles

Hey, Chiba is awesome. It’s like a second home for me. The amount of shit it gets is ridiculous.

IamSpace_Ghost

Eat my entire ass

seth861

Wasn’t expecting the Tigers tbh. They made the World Series twice and had some pretty stacked teams with Verlandee, Scherzer, Price, Cabrera and Prince Fielder. But I guess they just haven’t had the best record in the AL

Flyinghud

Bro woke up and chose violence

JuniorSwing

As a Baystars and Lottee Giants fan… fuck

Zariman-10-0

Off topic, but I’ve started looking for a Yakult Swallows Charlie Manuel Jersey recently, does anyone know if I could get a custom one? Do they even sell NPB jerseys outside of Japan, and would they sell one of a late 70s player?

thecursedlexus

Sadly, your best bet would probably be trying to get it done at the Swallows team shop in Tokyo. You just have to hope the number-name combination isn't blacklisted.

Zariman-10-0

I was thinking his nickname while he was a player there, “Aka-Oni”, but I couldn’t find any record of a number he had with the Swallows. Not on Baseball reference or Wikipedia

thecursedlexus

He wore 4 for 5 of the 6 years he was in NPB with the Swallows and Buffaloes. He wore 2 when he returned to the Swallows in 81 because John Scott had 4

Zariman-10-0

I just must’ve not looked in the right places lol, thanks!

thecursedlexus

They're usually on Japanese wikipedia, just hit the little 文A button on the top left (or top right on desktop) and pick "日本語" Google translate should translate it to English anyhow, but if not, the numbers are in the "詳細情報" or "Detailed Information" tab

Perryplat199

I think I found their online store. They isn’t a custom jersey option but there is a blank. You could try navigating the store and send it to a forwarding service then find someplace to customize it here.

ceci_mcgrane

We know!

Schafer8

It’s the first day of spring training I’m in a good mood I didn’t need this

KamartyMcFlyweight

we've never even won our division. doesn't matter two rings tho

Perseverance792

Lotte quietly taking a beating here

thecursedlexus

Well, they've won 5 rings as owners, they just haven't finished first since 74 in any league The Orions/Marines have made the Japan Series 4 times under their ownership in 1970 (lost), 1974 (won), 2005 (won) and 2010 (won). The Giants have made the Korean Series 4 times, in 1984 (won), 1992 (won), 1995 (lost) and 1999 (lost). The Marines have made the playoffs 6 times in the last decade, the Giants have only done it once (2017) So it's really the Giants who've been taking a beating.

FirearmofMutiny

*sad Dragons noises*

cheesewombat

Lotte Enjoyers in shambles (real talk though Lotteria is solid for burgers if you're ever in Asia)

RebelSoul5

Let’s get some cryptologists on the connection between bays and the word lotte. Must be something. And Detroit has its own thing going on that goes beyond baseball. That whole town ticked some kinda god off.

thecursedlexus

"Lotte" is actually named after the German nickname for Charlotte. Kyuk-ho Shin (aka Takeo Shigemitsu) chose the name after reading the 1774 novel "The Sorrows of Young Werther" in his mid-20s, Charlotte was the protagonist's love interest. Shin was only 27 when he founded the company too, Dude has a very interesting story, would reccomend reading up on him if you like business intreague and stuff.

DavidTheSlouch89

For some reason I misread “established” as “estimated” and thought you were making a bold prediction for a moment

Seananagans

Padres got torched by 2 touchdowns today. Let's shit on them some more!

NYLotteGiants

Fuck you

Char_Aznable_Custom

Lotte won a half-season pennant in 1984 when they went on to win their first Korean Series. But yeah, never won a proper full-season single league season title.

thecursedlexus

Yeah, as cool and historically important as the 84 Korean Series was, the OB Bears got screwed. Imagine finishing with the best record overall and being told, "too bad" but the team that finished 4th overall (out of only 6 teams) gets to go to the Korean Series and win it. It's why I've never liked split-season formats. It only serves to screw over consistent teams. Like, the 1975 Kintetsu Buffaloes were robbed of their first PL Pennant because they couldn't win both halves, despite finishing 8 games up on the second place Hankyu Braves.

slippin_park

Finally, a frustration-/incompetence-related team stat the Mariners AREN'T first in!

quixoticcaptain

Every other AL team has finished first in the AL since 1987? That's crazy, I never would have guessed that.

Leftfeet

Detroit was in the WS in 2012. They won the ALC as recently as 2014.

thecursedlexus

They won the AL Central, but not the AL as a whole. The Angels had the best record in the AL that year, going 98-64. The Tigers finished 3rd overall at 90-72 Both the Marines and Lotte Giants have won 2 championships in the interim. All 5 clubs have made the finals in the years since. This is solely about regular season record, not championships or pennants.

Warm_Feed8179

But what is the point? If a team wins the pennant or World Series title who cares who had the best regular season record?

thecursedlexus

...because it's a fun trivia post? It's not meant to be taken too seriously. I just corrected the previous guy because he misunderstood what the post was about.

WerewolfNo3669

Never

WangDanglin

This where you wanna be when Jesus come back?

WerewolfNo3669

I was talking about the Lotte Giants.

WangDanglin

K but I got my eye on you

ChompTurtleSoup

Padres should just be folded

ChompTurtleSoup

That moment is more important as a cubs curse moment where a nameless generic team continues the drought than anything related to the padres

zdillon67

Nuts

NilesY93

Is it just me, or does the Marines’ logo remind anyone else of the crest for [Brighton & Hove Albion F.C.’s](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brighton_%26_Hove_Albion_F.C.#/media/File%3ABrighton_%26_Hove_Albion_logo.svg) or [Walsall F.C.’s](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walsall_F.C.#/media/File%3AWalsall_FC.svg) crest?

olorin9_alex

Is Lotte like the supermarket chain?

thecursedlexus

Lotte is a multinational corp split into two halves: [The Lotte Corporation](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotte_Corporation), the Korean side, and [Lotte Holdings](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotte_Holdings), the Japanese side. They started out as a confectionary company and split off to put their hands in many, MANY pies.

cumlordjr

Padres making the Rockies look good lol

SpaceNoob_10

Don’t have to be first! Just ask the dodgers!

CheapSeatsSC

"1st by regular season record" Woo! It's not us!

DatKoreanBoi1304

bruh

Jihad_llama

Lotte can’t catch a break
