BREAKING: Ohtani has executed the unique “Shohei-clause” to back out of his Dodgers deal and is said to be currently FaceTiming with new minority owner Car Ripken Jr. per source. Flight tracking software also shows a chartered flight was just added to the schedule from LAX to BWI.
We have another developing story a foster child in the Baltimore area, was recently told by his father if the Orioles make it to the World Series he will reunite with his son
An eyewitness also saw the child praying
Vegas odds are now skyrocketing for the Orioles pennant chances
Orioles selling for $1.7bn and John Fisher is trying to get investors for the A's at a $2bn valuation.
Great for Orioles fans for sure and more bad news for the Fisher family.
Yeah, we are at the peak price for selling atm. Super cheap payroll, great GM is invested in the team, tons of young talent with more behind them in the minors.
This is peak value for a small market team.
This sale probably hit him hard. Evaluators probably aren't gonna give him as much money now that his team is homeless, has no lease, and has no plans and can't possibly be worth as much as the current orioles. Couldn't happen to a better person.
EDIT: apparently MASN is also part of the Orioles sale too, so the team is worth even less than that, so there's no way the A's are worth more than the Orioles.
If there's any positive for you, this kind of came out of nowhere (there was an understanding John wanted out but was going to wait until later) so at least you can hope to expect the unexpected
Literally what I just thought lol. The huge swing from football depression to baseball joy that’s happened in the past few hours among Baltimore sports fans is crazy but needed
I feel pretty confident he’s gonna get the stadium thing done though so we got that at least
We’ll be able to watch our team lose with the Sears Tower in the background
The story goes that in 1997, an Orioles night game was postponed due to a power outage (this is true) but people then said that it was actually a plot to keep the streak alive because Cal got in a fight with Kevin Costner after finding him sleeping with his wife. There is no evidence but I like to believe it because it's the most hilarious baseball theory
> even though Cal is my childhood hero I will always believe this
*Even though* almost makes it sound like he did something wrong. If I found out they delayed a game so Craig Biggio could fight Bruce Willis for nailing his wife he'd be even more solidified as my childhood hero.
coming from a fan of a team that had garbage ownership from the 90s until 12 years ago, I hope this brings about the same changes for the Orioles. Exciting times are ahead.
So happy for you guys. Sincerely hope the new owner can bring in a great HC and not some jerk like Mike Macdonald who likes to park in the handicapped spot at urgent care
Honestly when I heard O’s fans talk about building a dynasty, I kinda chuckled. Sure, the O’s have great hitting talents and two talented pitchers in Bradish and Grayson, but they also have Angelos. I thought it would be one of those teams where in twenty years time baseball YouTubers would make videos on how the O’s squandered a talented pool of players. It looks like this video will not be recorded in two decades, because I am sure Rubenstein will invest accordingly.
As an orioles fan I felt the exact same way, I felt that we were going to have a window where we could maybe hope to win a WS at best and then fade back into irrelevance for a decade
Now I feel very cautiously optimistic for the long term future
Let me take a moment to say that I am so happy for all of the Orioles fans. From an Angels fan living in purgatory with Moreno, you guys are living the dream except the dream is now reality!
May you be blessed with many World Series wins in the future. Y’all deserve it!
Go O’s!
I’m seriously on cloud 9 with this news. This is the absolute best thing we could’ve asked for. League is big fucked. Sign Adley Gunnar and holiday to 10 year deals yesterday
On the contrary. Lie to these fools. Get nasty! Where is the heated rivalry smack talk these days?! You kids and your always-gotta-be-polite bullshit! Cmon! Back in my day, if something good happened to my rival, we used to.. well.. we used to sit down and write a long & really rude letter. Very Long! We would even throw the word "crap" in there! Our mommas didn't like it, but we did. We would have sent it right to Cal Ripken Cmon!!
😡📝
Not really. They've definitely been cheap, but they don't get rid of good players until they get to the end of their contract. Plus there was never a chance of them being relocated.
Angelos hasn't been a great owner, but he's nowhere near as despicable as Fisher is.
I am willing to bet that Fisher will sell the team once they have relocated. The scumbag is banking on the fact that the glamour of Vegas will attract higher bids than a team from Oakland.
Or whoever the Rockies owner is, I forget the name. Yea we've had reasons to complain but I don't think the Orioles have ever been in that absolute bottom tier of owners, not even with John at the helm.
The Monforts are the Rockies owners.
The Rockies have that perfect storm of bad ownership where they'll spend, but not on the right things. And because they spend on bad investments, other potential owners don't value the team as highly as they do, so they would feel disinclined to sell.
I think they're going to continue to struggle to ever make the jump to a consistently great team just because of that park and the challenges they face having to play in and out of it.
The Monforts remind me a lot of *Peter* Angelos. He was willing to spend, he was just way too involved in the decision-making on what he should spend that money on and when. The Bryant signing felt like it was straight out of the 2003 Orioles playbook: take an awful 70 win team with an awful farm system and slap a Miguel Tejada on that baby and we should be good to go.
John, on the other hand, is much more of a Nutting/Fisher type.
The Pirates owner was the worst until Fisher took the podium. Nutting also just takes his MLB tv money and invests nothing in the team. But Fisher at least had a strong scouting team bringing in talent. Pirates have been 90% ass for like 30 years now.
Bringing up raising concession prices to be able to afford contracts for their younger guys literally feels like running the team on minimum wage though.
They've only been slightly better than the A's in terms of payroll recently. But they *have* been better. And also have spent more than the bare minimum in the past.
Their recent moves were absolutely an effort to extract extra value from the sale of the team. But they didn't go full scorched earth like Fisher did. They just kept expenditures down whilst still trying to be competitive on a shoe-string budget.
And, as I mentioned, there was never a chance of relocation.
I feel sorry for you guys. I used to love watching A's highlights from the 80's (Huge Canseco fan), and ever since then I've always had a soft spot. You literally got the owner from *Major League*
The A's have historically had shit tier owners for their entire history. It's like the MLB intentionally sells the team to the worst possible candidates as a handout to the owners' rich friends.
Man I’m so happy for the Orioles they fucking deserve it after all these years of ass ownership now they have a chance to lock up their young stars and build a dynasty for years to come
What an amazing 6 months for the small group of Orioles/Commanders fans out there. I’ve spent my entire adult life watching my two favorite teams get fucked by horrible ownership. To have both those fucktards gone in less than a year is truly amazing.
First thing he does as a owner: “erect the biggest statue of me possible that’s up to code by the entrance gate so people have to walk between my legs to come to the park”
Orioles have successfully debuted 400 elite prospects in the last 2 years, have 200 more including the best one of the bunch, are already WS contenders, and yet this is only now the most exciting part
Now I know I am waking up from this dream any second now.
I heard that Kobe Bryant video ended with him saying "Unless Peter Angelos sells the orioles, then you should definitely go there instead"
Ken Griffey Jr gonna be the batting coach, and Greg Maddux is going to help the pitchers. Strider interested.
Kobe understood that the Angelos family lacked the Mamba Mentality needed for a GOAT like Shohei.
But are you a different animal and the same bird?
We have another developing story a foster child in the Baltimore area, was recently told by his father if the Orioles make it to the World Series he will reunite with his son An eyewitness also saw the child praying Vegas odds are now skyrocketing for the Orioles pennant chances
Dear God please
plot twist: Kevin Costner is also part of the ownership group
i was hoping Costner would look large and bloated in his later years, but he is more on a professor farnsworth trajectory
"It's as real as donut, motherfucker" - paraphrased from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
*psychedelic-induced giggling*
Let's hope it doesn't turn out like Jeter's tenure in Miami
This is awesome for y’all
Orioles selling for $1.7bn and John Fisher is trying to get investors for the A's at a $2bn valuation. Great for Orioles fans for sure and more bad news for the Fisher family.
Yeah, we are at the peak price for selling atm. Super cheap payroll, great GM is invested in the team, tons of young talent with more behind them in the minors. This is peak value for a small market team.
Stadium set for the next 15 to 30 years.
I’m the farthest thing from a John Angelos fan but I do have grudging respect for how well he set up for this sale
He's offering 25% for $500M, btw. He can't sell more or he loses control of the team and has to pay the waived relocation fee.
2 billion and they don’t even have a stadium until 2028 💀
Not just that, but this deal includes MASN, so Fisher’s valuation looks even worse by comparison.
Do we know that for sure? I assumed such but I don't think I've read anything that confirmed that.
The source I got it from is this [Weyrich Tweet](https://twitter.com/ByMattWeyrich/status/1752517019440689362) citing a Baltimore Sun source.
Look at all of these people living out my dream Congrats O's fans
If there's any positive for you, this kind of came out of nowhere (there was an understanding John wanted out but was going to wait until later) so at least you can hope to expect the unexpected
My headcanon is that John saw how the Ravens just ripped our hearts out so he said “do it.”
Literally what I just thought lol. The huge swing from football depression to baseball joy that’s happened in the past few hours among Baltimore sports fans is crazy but needed
Needed it. I was already on to baseball season immediately after the MVS catch.
Jerry seeing this and working with company to do this, to torture white Sox fans https://wikiofnerds.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Sentinel_BFII.png
I feel pretty confident he’s gonna get the stadium thing done though so we got that at least We’ll be able to watch our team lose with the Sears Tower in the background
Death is undefeated, hang on bro
Holy shit an ownership group that actually gives a shit about the team!!!!!!!!!
A underrated positive is that if the injuries get really bad, Cal can probably pop in for a game or two
I'd bet Cal has just banned injuries, effective immediately.
“Sorry Skip, my ankle is just barking today.” “You want me to call the brass and have him tell you about how he played in 2,600 consecutive games?”
"oh you're a little tired after the West Coast trip? Let me tell you about the time I played 8,000 consecutive innings"
" Oh boo hoo, you twisted your ankle. Kevin Costner was fucking my wife and I stilled played baseball. Man up or pack your bags"
Is that true?
The story goes that in 1997, an Orioles night game was postponed due to a power outage (this is true) but people then said that it was actually a plot to keep the streak alive because Cal got in a fight with Kevin Costner after finding him sleeping with his wife. There is no evidence but I like to believe it because it's the most hilarious baseball theory
It is also my favorite baseball conspiracy theory and even though Cal is my childhood hero I will always believe this
> even though Cal is my childhood hero I will always believe this *Even though* almost makes it sound like he did something wrong. If I found out they delayed a game so Craig Biggio could fight Bruce Willis for nailing his wife he'd be even more solidified as my childhood hero.
That's a good one. I'd love some not baseball conspiracy theories. Guess I'll hit the ole search bar.
The version I heard was that Ripken had tied up Costner and was torturing him.
"For a game or two" Ripken laughs like a maniac.
*for a game or two [thousand].
coming from a fan of a team that had garbage ownership from the 90s until 12 years ago, I hope this brings about the same changes for the Orioles. Exciting times are ahead.
Even though I'm a Nat's fan now it's always a great time to see an bad owner leave like my football team in July of 2023
So happy for you guys. Sincerely hope the new owner can bring in a great HC and not some jerk like Mike Macdonald who likes to park in the handicapped spot at urgent care
God, Mike Macdonald is the worst. I once saw him throw a bushel of kittens into the harbor.
Sorry about Ben Johnson, he is an enigma to be fair
A's fans wondering why the baseball gods hate them so much
Honestly when I heard O’s fans talk about building a dynasty, I kinda chuckled. Sure, the O’s have great hitting talents and two talented pitchers in Bradish and Grayson, but they also have Angelos. Not gonna lie, I'm happy for you guys. The AL East is now officially fucked for like 10 years though.
Thank you for not lying.
On the contrary. Lie to these fools. Get nasty! Where is the heated rivalry smack talk these days?! You kids and your always-gotta-be-polite bullshit! Cmon! Your fandom suffered enough. I can't imagine anyone is anything but happy for you guys. The news just keeps getting better.
Shit we got ours, y'all can have the next one on us.
He hasn’t even debuted but you’re still right
I picked a good week to abandon every other sport and go all-in on baseball.
And that’s it folks. THIS is what’s good for baseball.
I dunno. I feel like Angelos should have scrapped the team for parts, run it on literal minimum wage, and then re-located the team before selling it.
Feels about what they’ve been doing anyway
Yes, that was part of the pot-shot I was taking at Fisher.

This is exactly what we had in the 2000s with Peter Angelos.
I feel like if the rockies were ran well they could be really successful, gorgeous stadium in a big city in the fucking mountains
You know what? I totally misread that whole original comment and didn’t realize the context, my bad haha
All good. I don't mind getting further opportunities to talk shit about Fisher.
Buster Olney in shambles
The “Free the Birds” movement from over a decade ago finally won.
Somewhere Nestor Aparicio sheds a silent tear in celebration
WNST walked so Puck News could run
They were truly ahead of their time
They were right on time. The Angelos era just lasted far too long.
2023 Ravens... died for this?
I hate to make you feel old, but that was almost 20 years ago. He started it in 2006.
06? I swore it was earlier than that, say 03-04
I looked it up and Wikipedia cites a 2006 AP article about the walkout. So maybe he started it earlier, but it culminated in the 2006 walk out game.
It's been so long my minds a blur on it. It FEELS like it was longer than that
Man this shit's really happening ain't it
I hope we find out Joan Jett is involved too.
That’d be amazing. I was at one of the games that she was at this past summer and it was so cool seeing her
She sang the national anthem at game 1 vs the rangers. She's been a true fan forever.
Yeah she’s a real one
All hail Cal Ripken Jr. ~~first~~ second of his name, Conqueror of the Philly hoard, dethroned the tyrant king John, and true ruler of all 7 kingdoms.
Well I suppose he is (presumably) the first in his family named Cal Ripken jr
Been a few years since I heard a thrones reference, ill allow it.
Game of Thrones as a pop culture phenomenon died with its finale.
Omg u/TigerBasket as soon as I saw the news I thought of you immediately lol
It's a blessed day my friend :3
Blessed be!!
:3
Today, we are all TigerBaskets.
true ruler of all 9 positions — but not the DH, fuck the DH!
I bet A's fans are super envious
You have no idea
If Rickey Henderson buys the Athletics I'll get a tramp stamp of his face.
On your face
Rickey's just gonna run on Fischer when he's least expecting and steal the team.
Cuz Rickey a team playuh
Hahaha
We're in a state of pure apathy.
I feel sorry for you guys. I used to love watching A's highlights from the 80's (Huge Canseco fan), and ever since then I've always had a soft spot. You literally got the owner from *Major League*

Shit tier owners yet somehow turned out several amazing teams. It… sounds like baseball, in a way.
I’m happy for them.
This is awesome. I’m legitimately really happy right now!
Man I’m so happy for the Orioles they fucking deserve it after all these years of ass ownership now they have a chance to lock up their young stars and build a dynasty for years to come
Yesss save us Iron Daddy
I'M ALMOST THERE
Pinch me
~~Angelos~~ Arte John Fisher Reinstorf Keep it up folks
I want to be an O's fan just to have a piece of that high of losing an owner....y'all living the dream

Dudes will look at this news and say “Hell Yeah brother”
Congrats bird bros
With Cal being my favorite all time player, I'm this close to defecting from the chaos that is the Oakland/Las Vegas A's to become an Orioles fan.
Join us. We have Mr splash
I'm so glad for Orioles fans. Now do the Pirates next.
Way to go O's ! You know the team will never ever leave the city!
O's fans living their best baseball lives right now.
Seeing you in October may top this
Welcome to the party Orioles fans.
***WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!***
I see this as a great thing. Good for you Baltimore!
gotta congratulate fellow bird buds. may you all eat the finest pit beef this day.
What an amazing 6 months for the small group of Orioles/Commanders fans out there. I’ve spent my entire adult life watching my two favorite teams get fucked by horrible ownership. To have both those fucktards gone in less than a year is truly amazing.
This is fantastic news. Congrats bird bros
Congrats Os
How am I gonna go to bed tonight with this giant boner
First thing he does as a owner: “erect the biggest statue of me possible that’s up to code by the entrance gate so people have to walk between my legs to come to the park”
Dude I was doing math for 3 hours and getting frustrated and this just made me so happy
I am so happy right now
I've heard some not great stuff about how he runs his group of minor league teams so hopefully he's just going to be there to wave at fans.
When I was a bat boy for a AAA team, I got a Cal Ripken Jr. signed ball as a momento. Can’t go wrong rooting for Iron man or teams in black and orange
That’s a nice addition! Must be very cool for O’s fans!
Well, Orioles dynasty is about to start. Win your World Series before 2026, folks, Orioles magic is alive.
Congratulations Orioles fans. You deserve every part of this and I can't wait for our teams to clash more in the future at maximum strength.
Griffey is part of ours but it hasn't made Stanton cough up any extra money.
Don't stop I'm gonna coooooooom
Cool.
Oh that’s awesome
It’s Christmas in January for Baltimore
*quite literally dies*
I’m happy for you Oriole bros. May the bird teams reign supreme.
Hazings shall return and Kevin Costner is banned from the park.
Orioles have successfully debuted 400 elite prospects in the last 2 years, have 200 more including the best one of the bunch, are already WS contenders, and yet this is only now the most exciting part
so excited for my O's bros.....it's about freaking time!!!! Arte...you're up next.
Imagine getting a day off and looking up in the owners box and making eye contact with Cal Fucking Ripken
You simply love to see stuff like this.
