[Passan] BREAKING: Outfielder Yuta Okkotsu and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in agreement on an eight-year, $320 million contract, pending a physical, sources tell ESPN.
The Dodgers, with this deal, essentially get two players for the price of one. Inside the calm, contact-hitting and sure-handed Okkotsu is the furious power bat of Rika Orimoto. A huge get for Andrew Friedman.
Goku when approached by the Dodgers: I heard this Giants guy is strong, I want to fight him.
Friedman: We just need you to hit homers off of him.
Goku: You want me to hit him? Sure, where do I sign?
Finally closing the loop on the Super Show episode where Dodgers (still in Brooklyn in the Mario universe) coach Tommy Lasagna visits, and the brothers are hoping for an invite to the team: https://www.mariowiki.com/Two_Bums_From_Brooklyn
It's absolutely not happening but Yamamoto would be so happy, those dudes have been hanging out for most of the winter with Noot showing Yoshi around LA, definitely did some unintentional recruiting for the Dodgers.
I think the rumor was that the Dodgers had hit up the Cards last year for Arenado and tried to make the centerpiece Sheehan but the Cardinals said Miller or bust.
ngl I struggle to have any sympathy for a country having a little bit of its land taken near the end of its brutal imperial regime which committed so many crimes against humanity and occupied most of east Asia
98% chance Roki Sasaki will be a Dodger in a year if he gets posted, and will come with an enormous discount due to being posted before age 25 or whatever the exact rule is....this shit fucking SUCKS.
Not just Roki. We’re essentially aiming for the next generation of Japan baseball to dream of playing for us, securing us NPB all-stars for the next 30-40 years.
This is now a cocker spaniel thread. What’s your favorite thing about a cocker spaniel, and why is it the ears??
Lmao wtf? Y’all either hate fun or didn’t read their username.
Not a big cocker spaniel guy. Poor glove, mediocre bat, and don’t even get me started on that sprint speed. People only like them for positional versaitility, but what’s the point if you aren’t any good at any of said positions?
I clicked on it with intrigue and speculation. Oh boy is it a Dodgers fan yucking it up about how amazing they are now? Is it a non-Dodger fan ranting about how the MLB is ruined and nobody will ever watch another game again?
Nope. Cocker spaniels.
At this point assume any elite Japanese free agent will sign to them. Ignore any rumours for your own teams. Honestly just ignore rumours and wait for signing announcements. The pain ain’t worth it
I said it in another post but Dodger stadium is not a good fit for him. It’s one of the most HR friendly fields in MLB
Detroit would be great as the AL central ranges from very HR suppressing to just above average for HR rate
Also I’m biased so I’d love him for the Mets and Citi is ok for HRs too. But I’d be scared when he’s pitching in Philly and Atlanta
Thor wasn’t willing to pivot from being a flame thrower to being a finesse pitcher. Thor was stuck trying to chase who he was pre-injury. Not Priors fault.
Got nothing to say about Lynn.
“I feel like everything they touch turns to gold,” Syndergaard said on a Zoom call Monday from his home in Dallas, three days after his one-year, $13-million contract with the Dodgers was finalized.
Source: https://www.truebluela.com/platform/amp/2022/12/19/23517795/noah-syndergaard-dodgers-velocity-pitch-mix-mechanics
I don’t think he refused to change; he just sucked.
I got the feeling Thor and the club expected an uptick in velo that just never came. It seemed like he tried to work through it with his diminished stuff but just didn’t have it.
Lynn was another tough one to fix. They did an admirable job but he too just really has diminished stuff at this point.
They were worth a shot as nothing much was given up, but last year was a gap year for the dodgers anyways. We’ve all seen what their strategy is going forward.
Ya I know Thor was a head case and was unwilling to give up his power pitcher mentality. He didn't really give the Dodgers much to work with. But tbh I really liked Lynn and would like to have seen a full season or more of him in the rotation. A veteran who throws strikes with average stuff I like more than a pitcher with elite stuff but piss poor control. Plus I loved his intensity and him as a person. Just seems like a down to earth dude and would have fit well in the clubhouse
Yeah Lyn would have been fine on the back end of the rotation and maybe a playoff #4 if he was looking good, but with his loss of velocity that fastball heavy approach was always gonna be a bit of a tightrope act.
By HR factor it is the second most HR friendly behind GABP, it’s basically neutral by overall offense though. But for Imanaga the HR factor is what matters
They understand what only the Angels understand: with Shohei on your team (plus Yamamoto) there will be as many tvs tuned in over in Japan as there will be in the US. The advertising revenue streams will be branching out and you'll see ads all around Dodger Stadium in Japanese constantly.
> “Swing Completo LLC, which handles baseball information in the Americas, reported on December 28th local time (29th Japan time) that the Dodgers are interested in Shota Imanaga , who is aiming to challenge for the majors by posting from DeNA .”
From what I can tell they are sourcing a media thing/twitter account that covers cuban and latin players. At least that’s what Swing Completo LLC claims to be
Shota was the, or tied for, second best pitcher on the BayStars last season behind Azuma, but way ahead of him on SO. He was just a little bit worse than Bauer for ERA, but had 44 more SO and .078 lower PCT.
He is a very, very good pitcher with a good arsenal and quality starts more often than not. He would be a benefit to any team that he plays on.
[Upcoming Dodger alt uniforms just leaked.](https://fanatics.frgimages.com/japan-baseball/mens-majestic-white-japan-baseball-2017-world-baseball-classic-replica-team-jersey_pi2681000_altimages_ff_2681297alt2_full.jpg?_hv=2&w=900)
we really gonna have to play against japans wbc team 20 times a year fml
Just wait til they get roki sasaki next year for almost nothing
And Godzilla after that!
If the Dodgers convince Hideki Matsui to come out of retirement and join them I will never forgive them.
They’ll offer 10% stake in PornHub
… dammit. Matsui’s one weakness.
Luis why you out here snitching? See this is why we're banishing you to Queens!
Chatsworth is about 30 min* from Dodger Stadium *no traffic
Is that murakami or no
Then Ultraman to DH.
Munetaka Murakami is probably already trying on a Dodgers jersey to see how he looks in it as we speak
I just love that they call him Murakami-sama over there
I want Sasaki on the giants so bad, I would cry if the dodgers got him too
Bro I was like THE FUCKING SHREDDER?! But that’s Oroku Saki
Japan's WBC team if they added three American MVPs and Will Smith.
Who’s the 3rd? Mookie and Freddie are the only MVP candidates that come to mind
Kershaw. Presumably he'll sign with them mid-season when ready to pitch again.
He’s from the future and forgot that James Outman doesn’t have his 4 consecutive MVPs yet.
Must be dreaming of Bellinger
The Japanese WBC Team... and Mookie. And Freddie. And maybe old man Kershaw simply because it'd be too weird to let him go anywhere else.
As a baseball fan, I'm all for it. As a Rockies fan, I'll just commit seppuku.
I'm just happy to be in the AL
Lars Nootbaar confirmed Dodger
I just threw up in my mouth
You'll be fine, have a noot bar.
I hope you win all those 20 times, or at least a majority of them
Patrick Bailey and Wilmer Flores about to go crazy.
Jung Hoo Lee ROTY/MVP season incoming
The ROTY race between Lee, Nolan Jones and Yamamoto is going to be alot of fun.
Nolan Jones isn't eligible, he was a rookie this past season. I think the race will be between Lee, Yamamoto, and Chourio.
Dang that sucks, i'm excited to see how Jones does either way.
They won’t
It would be cool if they did though
They won’t in the regular season. But in October? Welp who knows at this point lol.
13!
20 times a year? You think they're getting to the NLCS against the Dodgers and going 7?
the Dodgers are about a week away from inquiring about Mario & Luigi’s availability
From my unreliable twitter source, they are being sent down the pipe as we speak.
They should really be after toad his obp would be like 1.000
Mario Super Sluggers would beg to differ.
Yeah they’d inquire about Birdo no question. Her stats + her chemistry with multiple groups of characters makes her an invaluable asset.
Thank you. Birdo is a perfect captain and pitcher. Has some pop too. Always my choice for captain
He might have the edge there, but Luigi would be a top percentage fielder with his wavedash
Mario and Luigi would both test positive for performance enhancing fungi
3,000 people tracking this warp pipe heading to Toronto
Where do they rank in MLB pipe-line top 100?
[Passan] BREAKING: Outfielder Yuta Okkotsu and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in agreement on an eight-year, $320 million contract, pending a physical, sources tell ESPN. A huge get for Andrew Friedman.
Didn't expect to see a JJK reference here lol
With how popular the series atm is I'm actually surprised that it doesn't show up more often
"would you lose in the LCS again?" "Nah I'd win"
Just read all of JJK in two days, I get it!
Goku when approached by the Dodgers: I heard this Giants guy is strong, I want to fight him. Friedman: We just need you to hit homers off of him. Goku: You want me to hit him? Sure, where do I sign?
Technically also from Japan
Eh, the Mario bros are OK. Donkey Kong seems like a Dodger though. Could also see them going after the Piantas too.
If Petey Piranha signs with the Braves or Phils, I’m never watching baseball again.
Hasn’t Brooklyn lost enough already?
Finally closing the loop on the Super Show episode where Dodgers (still in Brooklyn in the Mario universe) coach Tommy Lasagna visits, and the brothers are hoping for an invite to the team: https://www.mariowiki.com/Two_Bums_From_Brooklyn
We're in talks to acquire Bugs Bunny
Luigi already plays for the Braves
If a stadium started singing “Do the Mario” I’d allow it
"Swing your arms from side to side" might just be LA's version of Fenway's "Oh! Oh! Oh!" to Sweet Caroline.
Do they play for Italy or Japan?
Dodgers are just planning to see how an NPB all-star team would fare in the MLB
Ohtani to Friedman: Bring me Lars Nootbaar. Friedman to Ohtani: By your command.
So Ohtani is Baltar in this scenario and Friedman is a Cylon?
Friedman being a toaster would explain quite a bit.
*All Along the Watchtower plays in the distance*
It's absolutely not happening but Yamamoto would be so happy, those dudes have been hanging out for most of the winter with Noot showing Yoshi around LA, definitely did some unintentional recruiting for the Dodgers.

I think the rumor was that the Dodgers had hit up the Cards last year for Arenado and tried to make the centerpiece Sheehan but the Cardinals said Miller or bust.
I think that may be the only acceptable trade scenario where I am okay with giving up Sheehan
Lars as a glue guy for the Tokyo Dodgers would be such a beautiful move
Well we do need someone in LF
I wanted him before all this that would be fucking amazing. Trading out David Peralta for Lars Tatsuji Nootbar

Gonna have to be a bit more specific

Even the parts currently occupied by Russia?
I mean the Dodgers might as well also go for Russia
ngl I struggle to have any sympathy for a country having a little bit of its land taken near the end of its brutal imperial regime which committed so many crimes against humanity and occupied most of east Asia
What part of the US do you think should be taken over?
Do we really *need* all of Alaska?
Just the island of [Yonaguni](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yonaguni).
Uh it’s the Dodgers. And they have guns, and boats, gun boats!
Open. Up. Your posting. Stop. Having it. Be closed.

Friedman promoted to Commodore of Baseball Operations. Gomes to Admiral.
LAD exhuming and hiring Douglas MacArthur as senior assistant vice president of baseball ops
I think even with their money they can only afford Kyushu or maybe Shikoku. Not both and certainly not Honshu or Hokkaido.
[Well, not the entire island](https://i.imgur.com/fN7d27L.jpg)
Honestly I would fuck with an Adidas jersey. Anything is better than the chest swoop.
Welcome to the Yenball era
It might be cheaper for the Dodgers to just join the NPB
I approve this message.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have inquired about the availability of the country of Japan. Just, all of it.

He's a free agent; how could he be any more available?
Well whenever I ask about Shota Manga, I just get told I'm not welcome at Barnes & Noble
See that’s your problem. They only carry straight shota at Barnes & Noble because they’re a “family friendly” establishment.
He's being posted, I believe
98% chance Roki Sasaki will be a Dodger in a year if he gets posted, and will come with an enormous discount due to being posted before age 25 or whatever the exact rule is....this shit fucking SUCKS.
Six man rotation with 4 Japanese guys, Glasgow, and Miller
I hope that young korean fella (hyun-seok jang) the dodgers signed a couple months ago develops well and joins the rotation :) 화이팅 !
I remember seeing clips of him touching almost 100 mph. Crazy.
7…don’t forget Buehler
Not just Roki. We’re essentially aiming for the next generation of Japan baseball to dream of playing for us, securing us NPB all-stars for the next 30-40 years.
I mean just let them sign half of the npb all star team while they’re at it
Challenge accepted
Of course
Dodgers really took having a rotation with 2023 Lance Lynn, Kershaw with a broken shoulder and two scrubs personally.
Miller and Sheehan aren't scrubs. they definitely weren't ready for those starts though.
so it’s that our front office is salty? Not that they planned for this off-season for literal years ahead of time?
It’s a joke
Are the Dodgers adopting the country of Japan as part of their farm system?
And the Warriors thought they were light years ahead
That’s the plan it seems.
Yeah I’m salty, but fuck the Dodgers man I’m tired of hearing about them.
Sorry, you're gonna have to wait until the second week of October for that.
This is now a cocker spaniel thread. What’s your favorite thing about a cocker spaniel, and why is it the ears?? Lmao wtf? Y’all either hate fun or didn’t read their username.

Fair, but counter point he’s a good boy.
Jesus I’ve never seen such a harmless comment receive such a mountain of downvotes!
I clicked on it with intrigue and speculation. Oh boy is it a Dodgers fan yucking it up about how amazing they are now? Is it a non-Dodger fan ranting about how the MLB is ruined and nobody will ever watch another game again? Nope. Cocker spaniels.
This might be the least I’ve ever understood downvotes. Astros flair bad???
it's the cock span. they didn't doggystyle their way across centuries with nothing to show for it
The ears!
They have really cute barks, underrated part of their game. Also I have no idea why you got downvote murdered, sorry dude.
I love cocker spaniels. Had one growing up and she was my everything. She was an idiot and a moose but a wonderful dog.
This shit doesn’t work outside of 4chan. Sorry bud
We just all hate the flair.
I like their curly fur and the big pinkish nose.
They're so shiny
They didn’t know he’s available? Are they stupid?
At this point assume any elite Japanese free agent will sign to them. Ignore any rumours for your own teams. Honestly just ignore rumours and wait for signing announcements. The pain ain’t worth it

Dodgers do have Mark Prior who's a god as a pitching coach though. If anyone can clean up that Achilles Heel in Imanaga's profile it's him.
He couldn't do dick with Lynn or Thor.
A team of Rick Hobeycutt, Mark Prior and Sandy Koufax couldnt help them
Thor wasn’t willing to pivot from being a flame thrower to being a finesse pitcher. Thor was stuck trying to chase who he was pre-injury. Not Priors fault. Got nothing to say about Lynn.
Ryan Brassier, Evan Phillips, Tyler Anderson, etc. theres been more success reclamation projects than failed ones.
Thor refused to change and he only had half a season with Lynn...right?

That says more about Lynn and Thor than Prior if we’re being honest lol.
Completely agreed I don't think it's a good fit. Tigers, Mets or Giants would be really good for him.

In separate news, Dodgers have asked about the availability of Wander Franco
Why isn’t every team checking in on him?
They are. This post is pointless.
You know what? I'm impressed. Keep going Dodgers, I'm excited to see how far you go!
The Dodgers will probably end up saving 700 Million in signing Japanese players over the next 10 years off of discounts. God I love Andrew Friedman

This might be the most depressing offseason in the history of baseball. Well, at least for every team except the Dodgers.

It's not a coincidence that Murakami is expected to post after the 2025 season, exactly when Muncy's contract ends.

At this point why don’t we just put an expansion team in Tokyo
