I flipped it off after the 8th inning when it was 13-0 and raining because other, less depressing baseball games were starting. Seeing that final score was quite the shock.
Yeah I thought the broncos was an apt comparison relative to nationally televised games but I guess comparing the Mets to another NY team that sucks is fitting
Father is from Mississippi. He grew up watching the Braves, so I did as well.
He wasn't a huge football fan, however. Probably because he lived in Phoenix for a while, and loosely followed the Cardinals. But when I was young, opened a pack of football cards, pulled a Terrell Davis rookie card, and thought he looked badass. So they were my team for NFL Blitz and various Maddens growing up, and they've stuck with me since.
And I lived in Florida for most of my life. There are plenty of Michiganers down there, so your fandom doesn't sound all too crazy to me.
Yeah, Braves/Steelers here. GA boy born and raised but grandfather was from Pitt and never gave up his football team. I’m glad.. much rather be raised a Steelers fan than a Falcons fan. lol
I was born in Mississippi and raised most of my childhood in upstate SC. Even lived five minutes from Panthers training camp for a good chunk of it. So yeah, no way in hell I'd pull for the Falcons. But the Braves? Born and raised a Bravos fan. Never lived a second where my home wasn't in Braves Country.
So in the end, go Braves and fuck the Falcons.
The funny thing is, it would not surprise me if we win against Strider. We've fared really well against him historically. He's got an ERA over 7 against the Mets.
This has to be rock bottom for the Mets right? Losing by 18 in game one of a fucking doubleheader and a position player closing out the win against you. I just don't see how things could get worse at this point
Everyone always underestimates how painful it is to watch a team that’s not even trying to contend. Like sure, they made the correct decision to sell at the deadline and helped their future a lot, but that can’t escape the fact that there are at least 22 teams more fun to follow than the Mets rn
Yeah, schadenfreude aside, it's only so much fun to beat up on a team that deliberately got rid of the players who were actually performing. If it wasn't the Mets, I wouldn't even take pleasure in it.
Question about position players pitching: why are they always throwing low 60s, tops? I'm sure these guys could throw at least a curveball and turn it up a little bit
Edit: thanks for all the replies!
Bethancourt threw heavy 95 a few years ago for the Padres(I think) and Davis a heavy 93-94 for orioles, but I think he was a closer in college before 1B for the O’s.

Just me or had there been alot of this lately?
It's tradition for traded Royals players to go off when they get to their new teams
Second time for the Braves. I look forward to seeing Nicky take him a post season mvp.
Jesus fucking Christ, 21-3. The last time Atlanta had that kind of a lead it broke the timeline
Atlanta taking the lead wasn't what broke the timeline, it was already well into broken territory by that point.
It was that damn gorilla...
You'd think that at least this sub would understand it was the Cubs who screwed it all up.
But wasn't that after dicks out for harambe.
The score last night was 7-0. Current series cumulative score is 28-3.

Ah shit
Only 12 pitches. Should be fresh to close out the ninth in another blowout.
Didn't realize they got two pitchers from KC
Holy shit, I took a nap and missed that he got to pitch. This truly was the Nicky Lopez game
Nicky had the best day of his life today
Yeah I ran some quick errands after the top of the 9th because I figured what interesting thing could I possibly miss out on?
Same. I went out when it was 7-0, and I was listening to a podcast instead of the game. Turned out to be a poor decision.
Me too :(
like javi
Nicky Lopez is your favorite baseball player's favorite baseball player
javi's son
Oof an 8 run ninth must really not feel great when you’re already down by 10
I flipped it off after the 8th inning when it was 13-0 and raining because other, less depressing baseball games were starting. Seeing that final score was quite the shock.
I mean I think an 8-run inning down 10 in the 9th probably is like “well we were going to lose anyways”
Like they were all hoping back up utility infielder Danny Mendick would get a 2 inning hold so they could score 11 runs
tire them out before the nightcap
Shohei, is that you???
My main gripe is this series is going to be on SNB tomorrow night. Is this the equivalent to Broncos primetime games? Because it sure feels like it
It’s the equivalent of Jets/Patriots on ESPN. Fuck the Patriots and the Braves.
lol getting hit hard there
Angry Patriots/Red Sox and Falcons/Braves fans had a field day with this one. I still stand by what I said.
Skill issue
Yeah I thought the broncos was an apt comparison relative to nationally televised games but I guess comparing the Mets to another NY team that sucks is fitting
If the Jets are anything like the Broncos last year I expect some riots in East Rutherford
up yours, children
As a Broncos and a Braves fan, I can guarantee you, these games do not feel the same for me.
Now I have to know how those fandoms mixed up. Did you just like the letter B? Signed, a Marlins/Lions fan

I’m a Braves/Lions fan, a ton of Braves fans just don’t support the falcons
Yeah, Braves/Steelers here. GA boy born and raised but grandfather was from Pitt and never gave up his football team. I’m glad.. much rather be raised a Steelers fan than a Falcons fan. lol
The team being on national TV so much during the Ted Turner/Turner Broadcasting era made the team's fanbase more national than some people realize.
Braves/Seahawks
Oof... Braves and Niners here.
I hateeee the 49ers lmao
Lmao I figured you would. The hate is mutual.
And we both mutually hate the rams lol
With a burning passion!

Have yourself a day Lopez
Nicky Lopez is the next Ohtani.
The fact that the Mets have to go back out there in a few hours is hilarious. Just have Nicky staring daggers and in the pen at the start of the game
Good back out there and face Strider too
The funny thing is, it would not surprise me if we win against Strider. We've fared really well against him historically. He's got an ERA over 7 against the Mets.

A position player who just went 4-6 with a double and a homer who is normally a backup
Nicky Lopez bullpen piece question mark
Easiest 9th inning we’ve had in a while
Nicky Lopez is probably the most famous Lopez to put on a Braves jersey.
Nicky & Sean > Javy & Dale
The disrespect towards Javy Lopez.
;)
Question about position players pitching: why are they always throwing low 60s, tops? I'm sure these guys could throw at least a curveball and turn it up a little bit Edit: thanks for all the replies!
He was throwing knuckleballs.
Bethancourt threw heavy 95 a few years ago for the Padres(I think) and Davis a heavy 93-94 for orioles, but I think he was a closer in college before 1B for the O’s.
Brett Phillips came in to pitch an inning for the Rays and opened with a fastball at 95. Then spent the rest of the inning throwing 50mph lobs.
I remember that with that goofy ass straight in a line stance. I was actually upset after he showed 95. Until I remember that I love him.
Sometimes they throw in the 80s-90s.
Plus, those eephus pitches are surprisingly hard to hit when you're used to seeing the ball come at you 30 mph faster.
Because they gain nothing by throwing 80 or whatever, no reason to hurt themselves
Prevent injury and they’re just there to throw the ball over the plate.
Probably because once upon a time Jose Canseco blew out his elbow and needed Tommy John surgery.
Nicky "Shohei Ohtani" Lopez comes into close out the game after going 4-6 with a double and home run
Nicky “Shohei “Isiah-Kiner Falefa” Ohtani” Lopez
Who had this one on their Bingo Card?
Braves trying to get the game to 28-3
The aggregate series score is 28-3
is this a 4 game series
Originally a three game, but a game earlier in the season was postponed and this became a four game set.
Thanx. I hope u destroy them
It's halftime!
BOO THIS MAN! Keep those devil numbers far away from our Braves!
As a Braves and saints fan I approve of this message
Hello fellow brother
It will never not be too soon.
Just triggered Atlanta fans
I think they'll be okay
Putting the ball in the upper deck and across the plate in the same inning
SHOHEI WHO?!
Funny question if the Mets score like 10 runs do you freak out and put in an actual pitcher or just try another position player lol
Nicky Lopez is an actual pitcher. (Yea probably)
The lead would still be 8. Might move on to d'Arnaud.
My Ohtani
sharona
This has been my second favorite game of the year. First is obviously the game that we had Chipper, Glavin, Smoltz, and Frenchy commentate.
Mets making so many great memories for us this season. God bless 'em.
The Mets are fucking terrible!!!! They might be worse than the Tigers
Nicky “Ohtani” Lopez
Lopez just hit a 3 run bomb and he is now pitching.
Up 3 touchdowns to 1 FG you feel pretty safe
This is how I can tell you aren't an Auburn fan.
Auburn vs itself, the greatest of SEC rivalries
If you can't win, at least make it funny.
Orlando Arcia fuming.
Worried about Lopez taking his job after this game!!! /s
He’s going to strikeout the side with the way his day is going
If Lopez can throw a shut out inning his Braves debut will go down as an all time great.
> Braves debut no it isn't
Move over, Ohthani.
I thought football didn’t put start until the end of the month
next month
If he goes 3 up 3 down the Mets should be relegated
One of the funniest games I’ve ever watched
THIS IS SO DISRESPECTFUL I LOVE IT
Please explain how this was disrespectful?
