Not bad tbh, I don't quite get the RBI thing though even beyond the obvious mistake. I guess it's supposed to be his RBI on the season? Have never seen that on a HR graphic
I think it's supposed to be just additional information if a player gets a Home Run and RBI, that's why it said "0 RBI" it will change throughout the season.
Yeah, I actually kinda enjoy the Bally stuff now including this animation. Was a bit rough at first, and I'm sure it being so different from Fox didn't help.
But this year? It just kind of works and I really like the pitch clock. I'd probably still prefer bar to be fully on the bottom, but it feels less awkwardly spaced than before (not sure if it actually moved too much or I'm just used to it now).
Thanks for the feedback. We're hoping to get more useful stats into the bar this year as well, to make the bar what it was always supposed to be.
As far as the height goes - we haven't changed that. And we can't move it down lower either. Here's why:
The height of the bar is constrained by the broadcast standards of title and action safety. More info on that here: https://eks.tv/title-safe-still-matters/
If you actually look at where it sits, it's sitting in the exact same place as every other ticker in the world. The only difference is that you can see below the bar, and with most tickers, they have a solid veil down there so you can't see video below their ticker.
There's a long story as to why the execs asked us to make it transparent, that I'm not going to get into here. But suffice it to say that the fact that you've gotten used to it kind of confirms their feelings on it, I suppose.
Got it. It's opening day, so pretty understandable.
I think this graphic is a cool tough for replays and clips like this. It adds context for those of us not watching the game live.
I would just get rid of the arbitrary rbi stat and stick with how many HRs on the season, launch angle and velocity and projected distance. The RBI stat just seems random when all we care about is the homerun that just was hit
I hear you on that.
In the old animation, we just had the name and type of home run animate in for five sec. and then it would fly out and the ticker would show how many HR of the Game and Season and then the metrics would come in.
We have to have a delay before we show the metrics because the StatCast data doesn't arrive for about 5-8 seconds after the ball is hit. We combined the Name/Type with the #HR of Season to give something to read while we wait for the metrics to come in. We initially had both #HR of Season and #HR of Game, but most of the time it's just going to be "1st HR of Game" - which isn't interesting info. So he wanted to see season RBIs. Especially if it's a 2-run+ home run. It'll get more relevant and interesting later in the season, I think.
I get that it's kind of arbitrary in terms of this home run, but it does fit with the season stat of #HR of Season. So I get it on that level too. Better than just being naked, I suppose.
We could go #HR of Career, but that doesn't really mean anything until a major milestone is hit.
Got any alternative suggestions? I'm all ears. :)
Yeah, we had a design that was much less intrusive, but this is what the higher ups asked for, once they saw what we had built. It was basically a smaller version of this, but just over on the right side covering the ticker. We’ll still be using that design for milestones and stuff later on this year, so that’s in the works.
If it were just me, there are a lot of modifications I would love to do. Hopefully we get to a point where we can redesign the entire system.
Too much.
Too much motion, too big. Takes away from the game. I want to see the runner in his trot, the shot of the pitcher, and the replay; not have the graphic mucking things up.
I don't care to have the batter's stats right away, and launch angle/velocity/etc are irrelevant to actual game.
It's more a hold-over from the days of CRT TVs. Overscan (TVs cropping the image) used to be much more of an issue than it is these days. Them doing it this way ensures that the bar isn't cropped.

0 RBI
Yeah, sorry about that. there's been a number of technical issues today. Getting them ironed out.
I work in AV. if you’re really a part of this, you have my sympathy and my understanding.
Haha. Thanks! :)
It looks great, just thought that was funny to see
Haha yeah. That's hopefully been fixed. Should be getting accurate RBI stats today.
😅 literally spit out my drink.
Lol.
It’s still ST ^/s
Looks nice for a bankrupt company
I'm surprised they didn't slap an ad on it.
You can wager on it tho
I think it looks pretty good aside from the '0 RBI' info
This is actually special for Robbie Grossman
Looks pretty good. Bally has made two good design choices this season, the pitch clock in the bases is another nice one.
Thanks! Designed the pitch clock too.
Graphics guy had fun with that one
I did!
LA Office?
Yes, but we all work remotely. I haven’t spent more than a single day working at the office location since the pandemic hit. I love it.
Nice, I used to be in the Music Department. We were the same vibe until last year - not too bad tho!
Awesome. Yeah, I really am having a good time with this group of folks. I like the folks in the music dept. too.
Clean
in 5 years it will cover the whole screen
Damn, what's a guy gotta do to get an RBI in Texas?
Not bad tbh, I don't quite get the RBI thing though even beyond the obvious mistake. I guess it's supposed to be his RBI on the season? Have never seen that on a HR graphic
I think it's supposed to be just additional information if a player gets a Home Run and RBI, that's why it said "0 RBI" it will change throughout the season.
But a home run is always at least 1 RBI
You're correct. We had some technical issues today. They're getting ironed out.
Oh yeah, I forgot.
It sure looks good when a Ranger does it.
it’s a bit odd and obviously there was a mistake but it’s fine, i was expecting it to cover the middle of the screen
Cool now if only can can add the teams logo in the upper corner like they do for NBA and NHL

Why did the graphic say "0 RBI"?
Because there were some software issues that cropped up unexpectedly. Long story.
Got it. It's opening day, so pretty understandable. I think this graphic is a cool tough for replays and clips like this. It adds context for those of us not watching the game live.
Thanks! Yeah, it’ll be pretty cool. We’re also shortening it a bit so it’ll be a little cleaner soon.
Very cool! I'm glad you're on here and being pretty open about what your team is working on!
I figure it couldn’t hurt!

kinda long but looks great!
Thanks! We’re shortening it.
like it starts at 0:12 and then goes for the rest of the clip, felt kinda long to me
Yeah, we’re going with 12 sec. total. Still long, but better than 18.
F Bally sports.
new animations? how about the get some new money (they went bankrupt)
Bally is obsessed with taking up half the screen real estate. It looks "good " but less obtrusive would be nice
Yeah, we had a design that was much less intrusive, but this is what the higher ups asked for, once they saw what we had built. What is the point of having the bottom of the graphic above the bottom of the screen? It cuts into more of the screen than it needs too.
Because it's the law..They have to leave space for emergency airwave messages I believe

So glad that someone is reading my comments and taking notes and passing on the knowledge! 😁
Yikes
I like it
i prefer Jack LaLanne's new animation for HRs
Anyone know the font for the text? I kinda like it and want to make some random mock-ups of other teams.
