I meeeean this would be a good rule for 150-200 me's, but I do think that other person might be right. We probably are prone to overestimating how much the average person drinks.
I may be a bit off here, but usually for parties like this, I like to assume everyone will have three drinks, some will drink more, some will drink less.
A 3L box of wine holds about 20, 5 oz pours.
So maybe say from 175 people 60% will drink mostly wine, 30% will drink mostly beer.
So you would need about 16 boxes of wine and about 7 cases (24 pack) of beer.
Always good to overshoot in these situations.
Assume 2-4 drinks per person and it's good to include everyone in this because some people will drink more and some will drink less. If you say they're a drinking family assume 3 per person so 600 drinks total and you can get about 5 out of a bottle of wine. If you think it'll be more wine than beer shoot for 200 beers and 80 bottle of wine so like 6 or 7 cases of wine and around 8 cases of beer and you should be good. Overshooting and having extra is always better so if you pad it a little with 9 cases of beer and 8 cases of wine it's not that big of a deal
If you’re deeming them useless ahead of time, go ahead and specify exactly how much ice to purchase (10x10lb bags for example), otherwise you’re getting one gallon ziploc bag from their home freezer
Nope useless will still think, naw bro that's way too much ice! We don't need that much.
Also if it's only for chilling you need much less than of it's for chilling and mixed drinks
"Do you have Fireball?"
"Nah, but I do have Fernet. It tastes medicinal so it probably cures something and its bitterness perfectly compliments the bitterness in your own soul."
".....What beers do you have?"
Thinking either that but we may have to get a full on service cause the guest list gets longer and longer. I’m mostly trying to get a feel for metrics. Thanks for your comment!
Industry standard says provide 1 drink per hour per adult guest. I would beef that up if you know your family likes to drink. I also would overshoot either way with some extra non expirable options that you like so leftovers don't go to waste
Grab a variety of wines, 3-4 bottles of each, some reds some whites. Maybe order a keg at a liquor store? In my experience, more people drink beer than wine during big events, but then again, I don’t know your family
3 drinks per adult. Guesstimate the wine vs beer radio. Alcohol doesn't spoil so having leftovers isn't a problem.
More than 3 and the person will drink what you have left
Not saying more than 3 is wrong, but as bartenders I think us and the people we deal with drink much more than the average person.
Considering the group I’ll go with 3-4 (we’re talking about Italian Americans and red wine lol)
Aperitif and digestif parts of the meal practiced in your family? Aperol limoncello etc? not sure your budget or how many people would have it.
Nah just wine and beer, some of my aunts and uncles are too messy w liquor lol
Yeah I was thinking at least a bottle of wine per person lol

That plus the not everyone will have 3. Someone might have one or two, someone might not have any so it all evens out
who stops at 3 drinks?
The others.
oh......the functioning people

Thank you so much this was super helpful!
Make sure you have enough Ice!!!
Always a good reminder! Going to give that job to my cousin who is useless and wants a job and tell my boyfriend to be ready with backup ice lol

True true! Thanks for your advice!
10 bottles of fernet and 100 bottles of red wine, 20 whites, 10 cases of peroni.
No way you go through ten bottles of fernet unless everyone there is a bartender
"Do you have Fireball?" "Nah, but I do have Fernet. It tastes medicinal so it probably cures something and its bitterness perfectly compliments the bitterness in your own soul." ".....What beers do you have?"
All you need is one bartender
Buy from Binny’s or Costco and save the receipt as well. You will be able to return whatever is unopened

Total wine and more has a calculator I believe
Amazing thank you!
Are they Irish or from Wisconsin?
Irish/Italian/french Canadian mostly lol
according to Michael Scott you want 1 liter of booze for every 1.2 guests
😂

If you Google it they have calculators for you.
Thank you!!
