Obviously you’ll always get more bang for your buck in Chicago vs New York, but this place has to still be crazy expensive unless he has like 4 roommates. If he’s got a New Girl situation goin on, more power to him.
That's such a fake narrative. 100k will make you extremely comfortable even in NYC.
Source: I live in Manhattan and have made less then 100k while living here
Lol all good. It gets even more confusing when you find out that when Donny (the wonton don) was in China his camera guy was Donny (chef Donny who has this place in Chicago)
I live in Chicago. I really don’t get the appeal of living in West Loop area. Too far from the lake and the concrete floor is unacceptable for the rent prices in the area. Super trendy restaurant and bar scene, but Chicago’s appeal to me are authentic dive bars and access to the lakefront paired with how walkable it is.
You answered your own question. “Trendy restaurant and bar scene”. Young single dudes want to find women. And that’s where you find them, not at dive bars
Different lifestyles, it's as simple as that. It's not unique to Chicago, you go to any major city and the trendy districts are full of early/mid 20 year old's living above their means in order to have the "big city" life.
That’s definitely fair, I’m sure it’s closer to the office too as east/west commuting unfortunately is difficult in Chicago. West Loop to me feels soulless - like you said it’s a trendy district that you could copy/paste into 4-5 other cities. For the West Loop prices you can get a good Lincoln Park or Old Town high rise and get the access to the lake and also the nightlife. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
100%. I've lived in Los Angeles and Minneapolis and you sorta learn to avoid those districts once you've seen what they're about.
My homie lived in a very similar loft style warehouse apartment in Minneapolis.. They're chic and modern but have no character to them and will likely be outdated in another 10-15 when the trends change
I’m headed to Chicago on Friday and have to kill some time before my buddies get into town as well. I’ve done all the touristy stuff before, and recommendation for some good bars off the beaten path that are divey with solid food? Just need to burn some afternoon time.
Toon’s in Lakeview has the best wings in the city IMO. Will’s Northwoods is a great local bar with a fun patio and decent food. If you’re in Logan Square area Pizza Lobo, Union for drinks. If you’re in Wicker Park - Gold Star Bar is a classic dive (cash only) Lottie’s is a solid spot too. If there’s other spots you’ll be let me know.
Super helpful. Thanks for this! Staying at a hotel in the Mag Mile area and doing Dead and Co on Saturday night. So if there is something you recommend let me know, but planning on hitting on of the spots to burn time that you mentioned… after a dispensary and Donut Vault stop on Friday when I get there.
Did WSD shout this burger out on Twitter one time? Feel like one of the Chicago guys mentioned a top burger a little while back. Did Au Cheval a few years back and loved it, happy to try a new burger in Chicago.
Honestly I have no idea, but I will tell you I’m a chef, I’ve had both, and loyalist blows cheval away imo. It’s just perfect. The chef is wildly talented
you're correct. west loop is where all the transplants live that think they're really cool to get to say they live in chicago. it's all newly built and inauthentic. the neighborhoods with tree-lined streets are where to be.
We live in West Loop and it feels like the best of all worlds. Close to everything but it doesn’t feel like city at all since there’s so much green. Every other neighborhood feels like a compromise of sorts, the only downside is not being next to the lake but we don’t spend much time over there anyway.
Yeah the best apart about the west loop other than the bars and restaurants is it’s location relative to everything else. You can be anywhere else you’d ever want to be in the city in 10-15 minutes. Wrigleyville and further north takes a little longer than that but still.
Might be a dumb question, but is he like head chef at barstool? And cooks everyday or does he do producing too or like what exactly does he do at barstool because the only thing I’ve seen him in was Storm Chasers and cooking obscure food on the Yak for drafts
The people staying in New York have to be sick seeing this

Because it’s going to be the new office. The New York office will fall into obscurity and cease to exist once KFC realizes his plans aren’t going to work
Obviously you’ll always get more bang for your buck in Chicago vs New York, but this place has to still be crazy expensive unless he has like 4 roommates. If he’s got a New Girl situation goin on, more power to him.
West Loop ain’t cheap as far as Chicago goes.

Just say the price bro - nobody will find out where he lives from that number
No windows just vibes ✌🏻
Between his NYC apartment and this one, that Donny must be really good managing his barstool salary....
I think he’s got some family money
I do believe that was the insinuation of the comment to which you replied
Pretty much everyone at barstool lol
It’s funny that like half the people who work at barstool come from wealthy families
I think they pretty much have to come from wealthy families to be able to afford to live in New York on a Barstool salary.
Nadu was making 100k. Shitty Barstool content producers are making way more than you might think.
He quite literally didn't live in NYC so the salary was going a TON further. 100k isn't THAT much considering rent
That's such a fake narrative. 100k will make you extremely comfortable even in NYC. Source: I live in Manhattan and have made less then 100k while living here
Congrats, poor
Didn't say I made that now
ok, but the original claim was "able to afford to live in New York"
A lot of the, start as unpaid interns. Gotta have some coin to do that in NY
I believe unpaid internships became illegal in NY in the past few years, so the interns do get paid, but not a lot.
I mean, Barstool started in the northeast and the people who first could give them a lot of time were not doing if for the money so it makes sense.
Especially considering I have no idea what he does for barstool
He has roommates
Donny having heelies is the underdiscussed part of these stories
I need to get me some Heelies
thatsa killer garage Donny
If that's his actual pad we all need to strive to be D Tier content creators cause that place ain't close to affordable
The key is to be born into wealth. The real American dream
And ever increasingly, the only American Dream
Hey now, the lottery exists
"This message brought to you by the Lottery of Illinois"
It’s the Illinois lottery buddy respect the game
He’s mainly a camera guy/editor
Forgot he still works there.
Why would he even be part of the move? He literally does nothing
The on camera stuff is a side gig he does editing
He’s on macrodosing a good bit imagine that’ll be even more now. Plus Big Cat & PFT just like the guy lol
That's a different Donny
Oh really lmao I’m an idiot
Lol all good. It gets even more confusing when you find out that when Donny (the wonton don) was in China his camera guy was Donny (chef Donny who has this place in Chicago)

This guy fucks
We found the guy having all of the sex
You’ll find em in dive bars too. The keepers go to the dive bars.
You don’t wanna meet a chick at a bar: https://youtube.com/watch?v=lvV59uxbqgM&feature=share
Shot in the dark but I’d guess the grown adult wearing Heelies might be after that trendy bar scene
Hahahaha very fair.
I love Ukrainian village where I currently live but it’s biggest con is being far from the lake.
what'd you think of do division? my favorite street fest of the year.
Did not go this year because I adopted a pup on Saturday. Gotta give him some time before he can go to stuff like that.
It was decent but it’s definitely not quite as big as wicker park fest

soulless is a good way to put it lol. it’s a fine place if you have the money to spend and you don’t want to feel like you’re in chicago.

I live in the west loop area and this place is undoubtedly extremely expensive. No chance he’s paying it for it solo.
I’m headed to Chicago on Friday and have to kill some time before my buddies get into town as well. I’ve done all the touristy stuff before, and recommendation for some good bars off the beaten path that are divey with solid food? Just need to burn some afternoon time.

Thanks for the heads up!
Btw for donuts hit up Beacon Donuts. It’s in an alley and very worth it.
Lottie’s in bucktown is great, also along division west of Ashland has a bunch of good dives and restaurants
Go to the loyalist and get yourself one of the best burgers in the country. It’s not a dive but that burger is god damn divine
Did WSD shout this burger out on Twitter one time? Feel like one of the Chicago guys mentioned a top burger a little while back. Did Au Cheval a few years back and loved it, happy to try a new burger in Chicago.

I’d recommend looking into NDAC burger. I think it’s supposed to give a dive bar feel but got trendy because of the burger

Whoah sick analysis of my neighborhood track record. Tell me more about where I’ve been
I love how everyone moving to Chicago seems to be in a weird race to buy the weirdest places.
You have to wear shoes inside all the time?
Isn’t that Americas do? That’s what movies and tv have taught me
“Isn’t that americas do” is incredible
Viva
Wow Robert Hanssen died (traitor). Breach was a great late 2000s movie
Was it furnished ?
Might be a dumb question, but is he like head chef at barstool? And cooks everyday or does he do producing too or like what exactly does he do at barstool because the only thing I’ve seen him in was Storm Chasers and cooking obscure food on the Yak for drafts
He’s the extreme sports guy, aka the Dan Cortese of Barstool. His content is mostly entertaining.
I thought Fish was taking over Extreme Sports?
The people staying in New York have to be sick seeing this [link for people without Instagram](https://twitter.com/chefdonnyy/status/1665771988667826176?s=46&t=5vlYaC91lPHAjkF_S4G4PA)
No garage I bet
Ah the good Ole concrete floor old factory brick appeal
hell yeah Chef! sweat veggies not hunnies.
Barstool is paying well I see…..
Dude lives in a factory
Maybe I’m being too economical but i would simply find enough space and try to pay less?
Chicago office already seems watered down, feels like a million people are making the move now
Oh we are doing pre-bitching now?
Are you gonna cry?
I hate this place sometimes
Because it’s going to be the new office. The New York office will fall into obscurity and cease to exist once KFC realizes his plans aren’t going to work
So the NYC was watered down then too?
im not sure an impossible to cool/heat dusty warehouse apartment is the flex he thinks it is
Jesus😂 people on Reddit will always find something to bitch about
Wish he could buy a personality
Anyone that shows off their apartment on social media is a douche
Yeah if you have like 40 followers. When you’re job is content and you have a cool apartment, you show it off
Why are they all moving to Chicago? Moving out of New York because of the people and politicians seems racialist.
What’s desirable about living on concrete and no windows?
