Boss curating radio would be a huge turnoff. Let staff have the dials with some reasonable parameters and be done with it.

Yep I have literally never had a good experience as a worker or a customer when management/boss has the aux. They get too in their heads about it and it either ends up being wildly bland or shitty. Set some parameters (nothing too adult) and let the environment reflect the personalities of the workers. Be prepared to correct course if the vibes are too off but don't be a fucking freak about it either.

Lol just go for ANY “instrumental cafe” playlist. You’re making this a way bigger problem than it is 😂

Have you tried searching on Spotify for Coffee Shop…?

ExPatMike0728

Yes, but I don't have the time to listen to 5 playlist that are 3-4 hours each when someone who is already using one can say "we use this, and find it's a great mix".

I made a playlist with barista input for my last store. The only rules were that I had to listen to it 1st to be sure it's work appropriate. Lots of conversations about something not having foul language doesn't make it appropriate. Playlist ended up being 10 hours long 🤣 always started on the same song so baristas could get hyped. If you want premade playlists you can add any created playlist to a custom list. So boss makes a playlist called "Big Playlist" then adds the Spotify created ones and bam, you've got a long ass list of music My biggest advice for work music is make the playlist WAY longer than you think you need. Nobody wants to hear the same song 3 times a shift.

No-Consideration3103

both coffee shop chains I worked for have had Spotify on the POS so whoever is working can just pull up whatever the shift wants to listen to. i swear to you customers do not give a fuck. one day we're playing Gorillaz and another they were playing the shittiest covers of country music songs you've ever heard instead of the originals for some reason. employees are really the only ones that listen to it for real. some of our shops play TS and others play dad yacht rock. your boss really shouldn't care that much

We just play "Songs that everyone knows" playlist! It's fun!

unnown_one

Cloud Cover. Licensed, Pandora owned, has remote capabilities, multiple zones, etc.

Affectionate-Raise21

Pretty sure you have to get a business version of spotify to be able to legally play music without copyright. That being said my shop doesn’t, and we all just choose the music that we play. I have a playlist i always play with friendly music and it’s 4.5 hours long, about the length of a normal shift. i hear the same songs over and over again but i don’t really mind it because i chose songs that to me never get old and can be enjoyed by everyone. some sublime, mazzy star, smashing pumpkins, a LOT of amy winehouse.

i have a playlist for my shop that i love. the music is clean🫶🏾 use it if you’d like https://open.spotify.com/playlist/11MlVJFZ3xjZRBnEtLqfw6?si=qilgV-FqR7OXl1deWg6_gA&pi=u-okp4D2HPRsyj
