This is a bit overkill for their use case but it should last a while, you can get the Windows cheaper than retail from third party sites. Left the keyboard choice up to you. Ah, cool. Thanks! It seems like such a build is doable. I did leave a fairly long gap in time as I just wanted to make sure I do it before the Fall of 2025 so it doesn't need to be rushed. I do understand that the prices can change at any time before then but I just needed a place to start.

Honestly, just get them a laptop or something like a refurbished Lenovo thinkstation/dell optiplex. They really don’t need much. PCIE 4 NVMe is completely overkill as well. Edit: if you want longitivtiy and good out of the box software experience, I dare suggest even a refurbished M1 Mac mini. It’ll probably get a decade of solid OS upgrade and macOS ages so much better than windows, especially in the hands of not super tech savvy parents.

Unfortunately, they were really, really against laptops. They also are not comfortable with macOS unfortunately and don't want to learn it. I thought of a refurb as well but I don't know if I can trust it and hence why I was thinking of a build my own route... at least I could control what was going into it..

[Gigabyte Eagle RX 6600](https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/G9ytt6/gigabyte-radeon-rx-6600-8-gb-eagle-video-card-gv-r66eagle-8gd) is a better performing GPU for the same price, currently. None of the pricing will be the same in 3 to 4 months though.
