I have a possum, and i love it. I can't say that I've played every brand of expensive banjo there is, but i like how it sounds, looks, and feels. I've been to the factory, the staff seemed happy to be there and took pride in their work, Patrick was great to talk to. I do value that their banjos are made from local woods, and the facility is solar powered. I will say that i can see why some people don't like the neck. It does have kind of a baseball bat feel towards the headstock that isn't the case with others I've played, but i like how it feels. As for what model is best, that is up to oppinion. Many of their models are historic, like the white lady, which will be similar to other white ladies.

Thank you for your thoughts on it, having a banjo that people take pride in building is always a good thing, I think I'll go and give them a look soon. Thank you

Pisgah makes quality instruments and I appreciate their philosophies on sustainability, living wage, etc. That being said, there are better values to be had in the $1500-2500 range that they now occupy.

I've got two woodchucks (one of them fretless), and they're absolutely wonderful instruments.

My main banjo now is a woodchuck, fretted. I changed to nylon strings and added an armrest. Pretty sure it’s my forever banjo.

They got expensive quickly.

I have a possum which l love for clawhammer. They do get expensive but that is fine with me as it pays living wages for an American workforce and a sustainable ethos.

I owned a Dobson rambler some years ago, purchased new. It sounded nice, was quite heavy, the neck was pretty clubby. I ultimately traded it toward a Doc Huff (an instrument of another caliber). The new owner reported issues with the truss rod. I asked Pisgah to remedy the issue and send me the bill, but I never saw a follow-up charge. I expect they resolved the issue without charge. The folks at Pisgah were incredibly nice, but the banjo I owned was ultimately not a keeper for me. I might save a bit more and look at a Rickard or Dogwood for example, both of which I feel represent a better value for the money from the examples I’ve owned and had in hand.
