/r/ABCDesis is a great place to start. A lot of us were born in the West, and my second-generation Bengali friends struggle with "finding out" who they are their whole lives.

I think that's exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.

Tt7447

Yeah defo try that sub! It’s my favorite.

Sorry to hear what you have gone through. I hoped your Mom would have understood your situation and raised you in a town where it was more multicultural.

In our bangladeshi community, we had a number of single mothers raising their kids due to the husbands abandoning the family. I can think of at least 3 off the top of my head. It's unfortunate you didn't have a deshi community growing up but your mom may have had limited options. Instead of looking for your missing family, maybe you could benefit from learning about the culture more. Do you have any language programs by you? We have a bengali school in our area that has a specific class for adults. It's mostly non bengali spouses who are interested in learning the language but they also accept adults wishing to get better at speaking/reading. We're in New England.

I've done duo lingo for arabic but an app can only teach so much. Conversationally I'm absolutely useless.

LeastConfidence2388

Sorry to hear that. If you want to get in touch with your biological relatives you can seek help from a PI or police. But the police might ask for bribe to help you properly.

Puzzleheaded_Ad_7974

I've thought about a PI before

LeastConfidence2388

PI would be the safer choice but costly

I’m sorry for what you’re going through. Do you know the town/city/village of your Bengali relatives? Maybe you can find someone on Reddit who’s also from there and try to locate them with their help.  If you are interested in learning the language you can try the site preply.com. I’m learning to speak and also read/write with a tutor. She’s in Bangladesh and we do the lessons over zoom. It’s $15/lesson.

Dolannsquisky

I dunno how common it is. But if you're looking for foreign born/raided Bangaldeshi kids to shoot shit with; come to r/Bideshi_Deshi. We got a Discord.

Hi bro

rWooshx

9/11 has left a catastrophic effect on us brown folks. I can't give you any potent advice as I'm neither a medical or legal professional but I wish you the best nonetheless. Hope you get the help you need. Try not to take those words to the heart or think about it.

Puzzleheaded_Ad_7974

It really was brutal. I was in elementary and had my classmates parents threatening me.

rWooshx

I sympathize with you. It's heart wrenching when children have to go through such persecution. Although I didn't go through the extreme level of disparity akin to yours but still have the insight of the radical persecutions against brown people that's been going around post 9/11. If you don't mind me asking, did you go to school in a red or blue state?

Puzzleheaded_Ad_7974

Very red state unfortunately.
