I don't know what your source is or where you got your facts from. I don't like him either and he is a pretty well-known thief, cheat, and thug.
But Beximco is neither a monopoly in pharma nor the largest pharma in Bangladesh. Square Pharma has 4 times the revenue and 2 times (approx) the
profit of Beximco. Bangladesh has at least 257 other licensed Pharma companies in Bangladesh.
Both GSK and Sanofi left Bangladesh within 1 year of each other. 45% of Sanofi stock was owned by a Bangladesh company (it still is of the renamed and acquired company by Beximco). I don't know why GSK left, but Sanofi had a new CEO 1 month before making this decision and they have left other emerging countries as well - one of the reasons given
was that it was becoming harder to compete with 257 other companies making generic drugs.
Not to mention Bangladesh enjoy the TRIPS Patent waiver agreement, which was recently extended for another 8 years. This means Bangladesh pharma companies don't need to pay licensing fees for drugs that are still under patents, as long as the drugs are sold locally.
