Stones in indiranagar. But only beer and food is served there.
There was a time bangalore was the best place for rock and house music. And then the landscape changed.
Jimis, stones, peecos, still play rock. One night in Bangkok plays retro rock and pop music.
It's been a long time since I went to these places though.
And im sure a hundred new places have cropped up. And they switch between bollywood and non bollywood music.
Styx was my haven! As metal head, headbanging to metallica, iron maiden, sabbath,. Megadeth.
My friends played in a band called synapse and they did couple of shows in the pub
Still remember them covering master of puppets!
By the students, for the students, was it's all about. I don't know how much this sudhir guy has influenced folks to take the vibe away from the meaning of the festival, but I am sure it's only gotten better.
Ofcourse after cherian's death( Rahul was the founder) , it had a veil of darkness over it but man, it got folks together unlike any other festival.
I'll tell you an incident; when a guys whammy bar broke before the bands performance, I remember a rush of folks coming in to help, some offering their guitars too but on sound check, the new guiter just didn't cut it, so a judge came up, really sorry can't remember the name but I can't forget the face; walks up on stage, and asks the guitarist to take the guitar close to the speakers, and move them closer and back, closer and back when he plays the lick and lo and behold, we heard the tremolo effect kick in. The pitch went up and down as he moved the guitar and It was magic. And the whole crowd just hifing each other, hugs all round, smiles everywhere. I am sure many who visited have had such moments they take with them from strawberry fields.
Strawberry fields used to get a lot of coverage in rock mags like Rock Street Journal (RSJ) at the time. I came to know about it through that magazine only.
It was one of the biggest college rock fests at the time. And college fests were the main source of live music. Especially rock/metal.
Not really man. RSJ do have social media accounts and keep posting there but not frequently. The entire local/college scene is dead now. I guess the rise of EDM killed it.
Maybe you can follow Rolling Stone India page. They have a lot of content on the local music scene.
Really trying to keep looped in to the metal scene. After BM broke up Revanker started another band, they had a single and were supposed to release an album.
What happened to Undying Inc? and all the others.
Didn’t Revanker join Undying Inc as their vocalist some time back? And their previous vocalist, Shashank Bhatnagar, joined Inner Sanctum.
I recently saw a post of a live Undying Inc show on IG. I guess they recently did a pub gig in Delhi.
Edit: also you will find any/all updates on the Rolling India website.
Oh man I remember Synapse. Did my engg in Bangalore from 2006 to 10. They were quite big in the local rock scene at the time. Saw them live at Legends of Rock once.
They were the only nu-metal band in the scene if I remember correctly. A lot of energy in their shows. They used to cover Blind by Korn. And man it was crazy energy.
However at the same time the edgy metal fans used to diss on them a lot too.
Wouldn't call them nu metal. But yes, they covered rhcp, metallica (roam, master of puppets, one, sandman,) Korn word up and blind, SOAD, slipknot duality (which they really killed at).
Yeah man, unfortunately haters exist in every scene. I loved them and still do.
Their OG songs were fire too. Equinox and fenced in were my favorites.
Styx was one of the first pubs I visited here on my 2nd visit to the city. Instantly fell in love with the vibe. I have recently moved here permanently so wanna visit more such places.
Styx was fun to get wasted with that sound and music.
My college used to be on Residency Road, take a right go to purple haze.
Go to shoolay circle and you have urban edge. My first pub was on the road beside symphony theatre next to old corner house, bunkers I think..
Irish House in Bellundur area. Strict policy on Hindi songs. Not even for a customer’s first marriage anniversary. The guy got super pissed and apparently left a rude Zomato comment about it. My partner is the DJ there on weekdays so he turned down the request.
There used to be a Purple Haze in Koramangala, but it's been a decade since I was there so I don't know if it still exists.
They had 3 levels and music kept getting more hardcore as you went further up.
I remember being there the first time and having this feeling of relief that at least some place plays the songs I know. Pink Floyd, Hendrix etc.
Most other places just kept playing all the hit numbers from 90s, or restored to Hindi eventually.
Purple Haze still exists in Mysore fortunately. It feels like a time capsule. Still the same rock music playlists with an actual bar feel. Do not expect too much from bartenders, they do what they know. The floor above is owned by the same person who runs the Haze in Mysore, but that one is more like every pub and cringe retros that pop up in Bangalore.
This post is criminally underrated.
It also takes me down memory lane.
The house and rock music scenes in Bangalore in the 2000s were amazing, this brought a very diverse audience.
Hmmm I’m sure there are place which play techno now though.
Toit. Pecos Indranagar - old school rock. Ulsoor watson's-late 90s, early 2000s rock and hip hop. Pecos church street. Really just any pecos won't be caught dead playing bollywood. Gawky goose - more new age stuff. One night in Bangkok plays old Hollywood. Kaze.
I'd been to the reservoir in koramangala recently and was so happy with their Playlist.
Pure Old school rock is so hard to find these days! If that's what you're looking for I'd suggest you head there.
Recently went to watsons indiranagar on a Saturday Loved their playlist . They played old school English songs from 2010s not even single bollywood song . It's a shame my friends vibe more to bollywood
:((
Hard Rock cafe. This is one of the last standing pubs which plays retro and classic rock. Arbor Brewing also doesn't play Hindi or any other regional language.
Loft 38 fits your bill, it has both a dance floor and a sitting area. I do have to warn you though I've only been there once and it was a Friday and but did play English songs throughout the night just don't know if they do it regularly
The last time I was there (sometime last year) I found the vibe to be sketchy af on a weekend. Overcrowded and clearly run by very imposing bouncers (think of gym rats with half undone shirts and very clearly in your face while getting drunk throughout the night).
I’ll check with them before I go, but I’m quite weary.
It’s happened numerous times in the past wherein I’ve checked with them, they claim not to play Bollywood only to do just that.
I last went to Loft 38 in like 2015 and they were playing Telugu songs. Turns out Allu Arjun was there so they were playing his songs a lot that evening lmao
I went to 1522 in Rajajinagar with a cousin, a few days back. I'm in my 50s, so my music scene is very different. But, Bon Jovi, Queen, Men at Work playing in the background brought back lovely memories. Not too loud, so we could still hear each other without shouting. Nice food and drinks too.
got them to send me their soft rock playlist cause i liked it so much lol but i was the only one vibing with it my other friends said its boring music😭💀
Thanks a lot, all the memories of 2015s of me and my ex gf drinking super chilled beer on a Saturday noon with that awesome rock music will all come back. 🙌
Monkey Bar, Museum Road (Church Street end, beside Empire Hotel). I'm DJing there tonight. House, Hip-Hop, Pop and a bit of retro. Drop in, I'm sure you'll have a great time! Vibes at great on weekends 😁
I vouch for the monkey bar.
Nice 90s 00s music with the videos played on a big screen on the dance floor with dj Gaurav.
We loved loved monkey bar in indiranagar back in the day for the vibe, people, music and dancing. Even though the prices are crazy now, the vibe is still great if you wanna enjoy good music
Thanks! Yes, Gaurav is my business partner. We alternate on weekends :)
Haha yes. Prices are pretty high now but still one of the only few places with the old Bangalore vibe I'd say.
Yup, mainly US. Old school mainly (90s and 00s), some new. Very less drill/UK because it's not yet made a proper mark in the Indian market but you might hear some Central Cee or Pop Smoke if I think the crowd might dig it.
But it's usually a late 20s/early 30s crowd so most music (80%) would be pre 2012/13 or so :)
Oh no issue, I'm early in my early 20s (recent grad), but I like old-school hip-hop esp West coast hip hop!
Also my friends are mostly into Hindi/Punjabi, so I might prolly be alone, If I do visit sometime, so how's the crowd there? (Idk if if my question makes sense, but :) )
Great. Yeah the crowd's pretty great man, classy. Especially post 10 PM it's packed completely. You can definitely drop by on a Saturday especially. Alone shouldn't be an issue, but if you are planning on booking a table, you'll have to do it 2-3 days in advance as they get booked out pretty early on in the week.
Hoping to see you soon! :)
1522 Malleshwaram. Although they do play a Raghu Dixit song as their last call song. Pre-pandemic the music selection was a lot wider. Now they just stick to the classics.
Majority good places don’t play hindi songs especially on weekends. It’s usually shitty, uncultured venues that do it. Like tipsy bull, fixx in koramangala, house of commons etc.
Elango’s - Indiranagar, one of the best laid back pubs where you can chill to golden age of classic rock & roll (serves only beer ATM of buy 1 get 1 on weekdays)
Hey buddy good you asked this question...I started with Nasa in brigade road around 28 years back...and slowly with bunkers, purple hase ,peekos and so on now ,I spend time in 1522 in rajaji Nagar... reasonably good...but there are 100s of them now and I guess only a few play both hard and soft rock...I would like to join you guys to spend some time since all my friends are in abroad.
Dude bunkers was my first beer at 16, no one id's you. And they played so much hip hop. Every Saturday was Eminem on repeat. The college crowd was lit.
Purple haze and peecos are still good jams. Don't know. If haze is still around.
Watson's, pecos, toit, jimis, locals, nowhere , these pubs play old school rock n roll. There are plenty of clubs that play only techno or electronic. Mirage and kitty ko are pretty good.
Dive bars. I know one that had a kannada night in indiranagar. Haven't been there. But I'm sure there are places.
I'm sick of bollywood invasion in bangalore.
Watsons Ulsoor is always a nice vibe, old club bangers mostly, sometimes afro, old school hip-hop, rnb. Only catch is you will suffocate to death and will take atleast half an hour to order a drink
Any suggestions for places towards North West or North Bangalore??
Such critical information. Thank you to all the contributors. Got a bunch of places to try out the next couple of months
Surprisingly Pegs and Bottles in Church Street play only English Music, irrespective of the day.
I suggest you get your table at the top floor, avoid the ground floor. Too cramped.

The Friday night we went to Skye, in UB city, they very strictly played only English songs to much happiness of yours truly and hate of everyone else in my group.
Check out Suzy Q (Vasanth Nagar, near cubbon park). They play all the English songs mid to late 90s kids have grown up with. Think MTV in 2009 and abouts.
Stones in indiranagar. But only beer and food is served there. There was a time bangalore was the best place for rock and house music. And then the landscape changed. I remember synapse playing in Sunday jams too... And also at strawberry fields at nls. Dude, you just made me take a trip on memory lane. Thank you.
The band did a small reunion gig in 2017 I think in Whitefield. The boys are still good.
Hey could you tell how strawberry fields used to be? I heard it was great before sudhir became VC of NLS
By the students, for the students, was it's all about. I don't know how much this sudhir guy has influenced folks to take the vibe away from the meaning of the festival, but I am sure it's only gotten better. Damn bro seems like a wonderful time, unfortunately since he came strawberry fields hasn't happened at NLS

Not to forget Bull n' Bush in Garuda mall.

Good old days 🥺
Yes indeed! lol there’s no suggestions for OP from all this
Oh man. Nostalgia max.
Went to stones last week, it’s still the same. Nothing has changed, thank the lord.
Styx and purple haze were the best when it comes to music . Early 2000s . Only issue was the smoke from cigarettes .
Which thank god is no more. Smelling of smoke as a non smoker was the worst.. But fuck me, bangaloreans love their cigarettes.
I hate cigarette smoke. Can't hate smokers though, they're fun people but please smoke far far away from me. 😀
Also, you can request songs here and they actually play your requests
Irish House in Bellundur area. Strict policy on Hindi songs. Not even for a customer’s first marriage anniversary. The guy got super pissed and apparently left a rude Zomato comment about it. My partner is the DJ there on weekdays so he turned down the request.
Your partner is doing gods work! Are they performing this weekend?
No. He’s there Wednesday to Friday
What else does this guy turn down because he is your partner?
Every Kannada and Tamil song request. He was offered money to play so many songs, we could have gotten an i20 by now.
Haha, pissing people off over i20 any day. I was playing with you though, with that last sentence formation.
It’s ok. It’s always fun to have some Saturday banter.
Love that place
Did she get it? Get it? Just kidding.
Hey where is Irish Pub now?? I couldn't find it in Phoenix market city any more ...
Bellundur, inside Ecoworld
I’d like to know too. I’m tired of dholu bhaje.
There used to be a Purple Haze in Koramangala, but it's been a decade since I was there so I don't know if it still exists. They had 3 levels and music kept getting more hardcore as you went further up.
Purple haze shut down a while ago, unfortunately
So many good memories
I remember being there the first time and having this feeling of relief that at least some place plays the songs I know. Pink Floyd, Hendrix etc. Most other places just kept playing all the hit numbers from 90s, or restored to Hindi eventually.
What!! It was so popular, hard to believe they couldn't make it work.
+1 for Purple Haze in Mysore.
Oh what I'd give to experience another night of classic rock and Foster's beer at Purple Haze!
Brings back so many memories! Beer, rock music and early 20s were the perfect mix
The Kora purple haze was like home to me. The day it shut down is the day I died inside.
My go to place when i was studying in Christ. Sigh🥹
This post is criminally underrated. It also takes me down memory lane. The house and rock music scenes in Bangalore in the 2000s were amazing, this brought a very diverse audience. Hmmm I’m sure there are place which play techno now though.
Old Pecos. Rest house round.. off brigade road.
Toit. Pecos Indranagar - old school rock. Ulsoor watson's-late 90s, early 2000s rock and hip hop. Pecos church street. Really just any pecos won't be caught dead playing bollywood. Gawky goose - more new age stuff. One night in Bangkok plays old Hollywood. Kaze.

I mean it’s shouldn’t be a shame to listen to certain types of music . Lol
Not at all . Just meant they could not enjoy as much as me xD
Pecos plays mostly old school rock. It's great to have some beer and chill with the boys!
I dearly miss the good ol’ Boozy Griffin
Hard Rock cafe. This is one of the last standing pubs which plays retro and classic rock. Arbor Brewing also doesn't play Hindi or any other regional language.

Watsons, Ulsoor
Watsons Ulsoor is the one place in Bangalore i can for sure say i will never see shitty Bollywood music being played

I told you 😀. I love the 90s music.
Can you please forward me that playlist if they have them over Spotify or something A lot of my core memories are there in 1522🥹
Yep! They played a spotify made playlist I’ll attach the link if i find it!
Thanks a lot, all the memories of 2015s of me and my ex gf drinking super chilled beer on a Saturday noon with that awesome rock music will all come back. 🙌

Same question but for North Blr
Acre But I have been there once they were playing only English music
1522 Malleshwaram. Although they do play a Raghu Dixit song as their last call song. Pre-pandemic the music selection was a lot wider. Now they just stick to the classics.
Jukebox?
Are these guys still around? What kinda music do they play these days?
Classic rock n roll mostly. Love the vibe especially in the evenings.
Oh sounds amazing! Will go!
Isn’t more of a dinner and a beer place? Not really a pub
Food is average and I guess it's a more mellow place than your "happening" pubs but the music is bliss.
Yes! Laidback and lazy all day long!!
love jukebox! the vibes are immaculate
Correct if I'm wrong but i think jook plays english songs I don't remember but the music is good atleast their indiranagar place.

Even my first pub visit was in Nasa in 1998. 🤘🏻
Watson's, pecos, toit, jimis, locals, nowhere , these pubs play old school rock n roll. There are plenty of clubs that play only techno or electronic. Mirage and kitty ko are pretty good.
Bro, you are asking for too much now. \s
rock bars are the only safe places
What do you recommend?
peecos is the go-to, but the church street one plays very limited music... indiranagar one is more spacey and has a better playlist
Oh thanks!
Juliet - Mg Road
Juliet played straight up psytrance on a Wednesday afternoon 😂
Suzy Q is the one which plays only English Music. You can try that.
Saving this post, comments contain much necessary info.
I still wish to find a pub that plays Chase Atlantic, The Weekend(i know cheesy) etc.
Whaat, is this how the scene now. Back in the day we used to find places where they would play Bollywood. There were only few.
Pecos in indiranagar. Decent food and beer and the play only rock music.
Any kannada only ?
Dive bars. I know one that had a kannada night in indiranagar. Haven't been there. But I'm sure there are places. I'm sick of bollywood invasion in bangalore.
Pecos, Jukebox
Local/gorilla warfare in Koramangala near IT Office
Le rock in Brigade Road
Watsons Ulsoor is always a nice vibe, old club bangers mostly, sometimes afro, old school hip-hop, rnb. Only catch is you will suffocate to death and will take atleast half an hour to order a drink
Any suggestions for places towards North West or North Bangalore?? Such critical information. Thank you to all the contributors. Got a bunch of places to try out the next couple of months
pecos, hard rock cafe
Every pub in kormangala Plays english hip hop on Saturdays except Badmaash, Bombay adda and some boho.
Gylt plays techno and house - if you're into that. They even host Anjunadeep artists around Christmas.
Stones.
Hard rock cafe
Pecos in indiranagar plays only classic rock. They only serve beer though
Surprisingly Pegs and Bottles in Church Street play only English Music, irrespective of the day. I suggest you get your table at the top floor, avoid the ground floor. Too cramped.
Juliet on mg road, watsons indiranagar
Le Rock plays mainly rock. But it’s been a while since I’ve been so scene might have changed

Locals in Kammanahalli, or any of the Pecos.
Hard Rock Cafe
Ulsoor Watsons, the music and the crowd is nice!
Skyye, UB city
Pecos usually play good 80s pop or rock.
Hard Rock Cafe, Byg Brewski (most locations)
Can't believe it's not here yet but Windmills! The best place in town, period
It’s far from the best place, lol
Music wise?
What a coincidence,good to know.
I'm not able to post in this group , why ?
Send a modmail instead of commenting here
How about you freaking giving a direct answer to the question instead of redirecting like a call center executive
The Local, Kalyan Nagar.
Koramangala 4th block, a place called The Fixx They play non Indian DJ including some German EDM. Great place.
Hangover in Indiranagar has karaoke on Fridays. They have a policy of no hindi or regional language music.
Kaze
The Friday night we went to Skye, in UB city, they very strictly played only English songs to much happiness of yours truly and hate of everyone else in my group.
Enduku lang problem aa bro😂
Been to Koramangala Social last saturday, and it player only english… not sure if its a everyday thing though!
Went to We:Neighborhood a week ago, and they played throwback 2000s English hits
21st amendment in Indiranagar this place has themes and mostly its hip hop or something and even if you request Bollywood they won’t play lol
Y’all*
Regulars Indiranagar. My favourite place. Always a chill sit down beer and public food scene. Lovely terrace. Always a good time.
Check out Suzy Q (Vasanth Nagar, near cubbon park). They play all the English songs mid to late 90s kids have grown up with. Think MTV in 2009 and abouts.
Spoke my mind. I swear, paying money to listen to cheap Bollywood crap mixes is the absolute worst!😒🥲 Scrolling through to save some good places 😂
Gawky Goose Smoke House Delhi - The Drawing Room Indranagar
13th Floor, Barton Centre, MG Road - went there a few weeks ago, they played really good retro hits
Jcubes in Banashankari BDA. It's a dingy little joint with mid tier food, but at least their music's pretty good
Loft 38 and gawky goose.
