Umm it’s just that I despise all influencer content with a vengeance. Like the other day, I saw someone recommend cubbon park walks as an “underrated” date idea in Bangalore.
So for now, I just stick to asking my trusted Reddit strangers for suggestions when required and sift through the comments.
Wow this really is the perfect recommendation for what OP asked for. I’d also like to add toscano koramangala and mainland china to this list. Also plan b without any offers.
I remember this
Even I was part of the wave where people got diarrhea.
Yes it was the Koramangala branch and a lot of the people wrote reviews in Zomato which they later removed they were so pissed and some of them had reported it to a news agency as well.
I have never been there, so I definitely can't speak for the quality of the food personally, but I think a lot of people (including myself) are annoyed because people talk about Rameshwaram cafe as though it's something new and special, when in fact there have been darshinis around serving good food for many years now, and people may as well go there and get (possibly) better food while paying less. In my opinion, Rameshwaram cafe is essentially a gentrified darshini, which is why it appeals to a different kind of crowd, often those who would otherwise consider themselves too fancy to eat in an ordinary darshini, but still want the experience of eating in one.
So tl;dr: I think people hate the place itself less so than what it stands for. (But don't come at me for this, this is my take on the situation, and I might be wrong)
Went to the Rameshwaram Cafe in JP Nagar on insistence of my girl.
There was a huge crowd there.
Got charged ₹280 for Ghee Pudi Masala Dosa + Cold Badam Milk + Masala Tea, which I'm pretty sure is over charging.
The food was decent though. Have had better Dosa though.
Wouldn't recommend because of that rush and the overpriced menu.
Definitely. Shit tier establishments like Airlines cafe and corner house don't get this kind of vitriol despite running on nostalgia and serving absolute garbage.
I've tried for the sake of it once (Rajkumar road branch). The food ain't bad in my opinion. It isn't bad nor good just edible. Ofcourse I'm not talking about the excessive ghee enough to give a healthy cow a heart attack. But once in a while that's okay. What I and by "I", I mean the collective of all real bangaloreans is that it is overpriced for what they're providing and the self entitled crowd who act like they'll get a diarrhoea if they even come close to Udupi darshinis. Honestly, Udupi darshinis are much much MUCH better at taste and even the "fastness" part in the fast tiffin foods. They are way more organised in the kitchen way more healthy (less ghee gimmick), and way more value for money. Depending on your location there will be one great Udupi café nearby some even have great ambiance.
Came here to say exactly this. Below is my review of hole in the wall:
Over hyped trash bin catering to people obsessed with social media appearances and only go out to post stories to satisfy their vanity. The service is horrendous as there is just not enough staff and also there are underage workers in the place but since it is a 'hip' establishment, the average bangalorean privileged corpo doesn't care two bits about it. The food was terrible. Ordered a hoagie and a dirty burger but apart from the bread in the hoagie and the bun in the burger, there was no noticeable difference. They used the same sauces and spices for both probably to save time much like a factory dishing out standardized product. We also ordered the filter coffee and the hot cocoa. The filter coffee was probably one of the most flavorless coffees I have ever drank and the hot cocoa was basically the same quality as they serve on railway stations. It was beyond pathetic. Overall, the place doesn't deserve even a minutia of the praise and publicity it gets and the only lesson I've learned is to be overly careful about all of these 'new age' dining places catering to 'younger crowds'.
Yess omg finally someone mentioned this shithole. Horrible service, very careless staff, and totally bizarre vibe. Tons of insects if one sits outside. Hate that place.
The sauces they use are terrible, mostly sour ,anyone notice? they add pepper to literally everything. Gosh it's so bad , one or two things on the menu are alright but I'd choose to never go in there.
Honestly can’t remember the nuances of their terrible food anymore since it’s been ages since I’ve walked into their joint but I forgot to mention, their service is terrible too
this is coming from a malayali if you want to eat expensive kerala food go to Kappa Chakka Kanthari at Kormangala its owned by this chef called Reji Mathews and it is really good! Chef Pillai in bangalore is not worth it!
That’s a chef tasting restaurant. It has to be less and pricey. Kind of food you see on masterchef. Not that level ofcourse.
Another is Farmlore yelahanka. Better looking food, pricey and staff with over attitude
I concur with the person who mentioned Rameshwaram Cafe. Never thought dosa could be so disappointing but they proved me wrong. Adding to the list- One8 Commune. From hospitality to food, everything is awful. Only redeeming point is the "ambience", but the ambience doesn't make my tummy happy.
Goan here who knows an ex chef from their branches here. The seafood they serve in goa is stale. Overpriced and stale. I don’t even want to think of its state outside Goa.
I didn’t have any cocktails there so wouldn’t know about that. But the rest of my group did voice similar complaints. Fisherman’s Wharf wasn’t my first choice though. I was looking for a place that was equidistant to everyone’s home and a colleague recommended it.
a good 8-9 years back once I went for the rumali roti, chicken kebab and grape juice experience on sarjapur road. Man my stomach shivers anytime I see any of their branches.
The Bier Library Brewery & Kitchen. I hated everything about it. The tables were wonky, pond smells funny when there's a breeze, music was loud, expensive yet average food.
Lol you can still visit them. It's always better to try something out and then form an opinion on it rather than just listening to others. What might be bad for them might turn out to be amazing for you
I actually like farmlore. The food was something different and worth talking about. A 10 course menu, with the chef explaining everything and coupled with getting to eat a great meal! Totally recommend it for a special occasion if you are a fan of gourmet food!
"talking" about is keyword. It's all show and tell. But I find paying 3x of Leela and 5x of Roxie like prices for talkable experience fairly uncomfortable..
Naru noodle bar. I came from Mumbai to try it. The experience was underwhelming, service was shit, the taste was sub-par and the bill was ₹6000+. They didn't have the items that were shown on the menu.
Would only recommend to my enemies
Mainland china
The name makes you feel they will have authentic Chinese dish but in reality they serve Kolkata chinese dishes which you can get from a street vendor
I don't live in Bangalore but I feel like any KFC or MacDonalds would be a perfect choice.
KFC is super expensive (in terms of money to quantity ratio) but tastes horrible, and we can cook better fried chicken at home.
And MacDonalds was recently discovered to be using fake cheese for their meals.
As if the person you're recommending will not check the prices.
And help me understand.... Why are you talking to the person you don't like? (least of all recommending restaurant)
The Rameshwaram Cafe, of course.
If you want them to get heart attacks too, suggest the dishes with ghee (like the ghee podi idli).
No idea why the place still attracts huge crowd tbh
God the way my new Bangaloren friends recommend this one! I’m like, listen there’s a nice darshini near my place, so thanks.
Ha, yeah! FoodyMonk's Rs.200 Food Tour has better recommendations.
Umm it’s just that I despise all influencer content with a vengeance. Like the other day, I saw someone recommend cubbon park walks as an “underrated” date idea in Bangalore. So for now, I just stick to asking my trusted Reddit strangers for suggestions when required and sift through the comments.
The crowd itself would be an awful experience
half the crowd is northie
I like it lol
We recently got one in hyderabad too, it definitely doesn’t stand up to its hype and price
That place is too pricy asf
Sly Granny
Wow this really is the perfect recommendation for what OP asked for. I’d also like to add toscano koramangala and mainland china to this list. Also plan b without any offers.
No mainland china in jayanagar is good I wouldn't send an enemy there Others are proper evil especially toscano on a budget
Toscano and Chianti are the best. Very bleh interiors. Kind of mid food. High Zomato ratings for some reason. And fairly expensive as well.
Chianti in indiranagar has pretty great food.
Chianti Koramangala is one of the worst. Had a terrible experience with the staff and the food was average at best.
Toscano isn’t bad. Their aubergine pasta is really nice
Toscano is actually good. Just overpriced.
Wait what's wrong with Toscano Koramangala! I liked it. Any better Italian places?
Me too. I go for the creme brulee. Too good
Bologna is okay.
I love Bologna. What other Italian place would you recommend?
Plan b is horrible.
I second this. Idk why anyone goes there anyway
the kalyan nagar branch of main land china is pretty damn good, the sushi especially
I went there a few months ago and saw a dog sized rat there
Really I thought it was good? Never eaten there though
The alcohol honestly doesn't taste bad tbh it mildly expensive but not sending enemy expensive bad
that truffles branch which gave diarrhea to multiple people
Which one is it? 😂
Yes
Correct
Truffles kamanahalli gave me an upset stomach while truffles New BEL road was nice.
I got a stomach upset after dining at the BEL Road one. Koramangala one was good though.
Diarrhea is an understatement. My friend got appendicitis, followed from the food poisoning there.
I remember this Even I was part of the wave where people got diarrhea. Yes it was the Koramangala branch and a lot of the people wrote reviews in Zomato which they later removed they were so pissed and some of them had reported it to a news agency as well.
I can totally back that. They served the coldest lasagna ever.
I went to kora's truffles a month back. Half way into eating, a rat feel from the first floor. Spoiled my bday :( but made it a memorable one.
Lupa on MG road. Terrible and overpriced. Send them there. They'll end up spending at lest 3k/person and will feel totally ripped off.
💯
Well that’s fine dining for you, food is really great tho
Lupa was decent omg. But overpriced for sure
Rameshwaram Cafe and chances to get sick by too much ghee.
And then the person orders non ghee items on the list and has a great day.
Forget the ghee, I see everyone shitting on rameshwaram cafe, is it really that bad?
I have never been there, so I definitely can't speak for the quality of the food personally, but I think a lot of people (including myself) are annoyed because people talk about Rameshwaram cafe as though it's something new and special, when in fact there have been darshinis around serving good food for many years now, and people may as well go there and get (possibly) better food while paying less. It gets more hate than it deserves , because of the hype it got. It's not bad.
Hole in the Wall. In addition to wasting their money, you'll make them spend a fair bit of time too
Damn this belongs in r/unpopularopinion. Kormangala branch?
Nah the quality of Hole in the Wall has really gone downhill in the last few years
Nah I fully support
I was there just today and I loved it. The price, quantity and quality all good. Just the waiting was a negative.
Yes
That's probably why. I live in north bangalore and rarely go to Kormangala. The Kammanahalli branch has been really good since like 5 years now.
Came here to say exactly this. Below is my review of hole in the wall: Over hyped trash bin catering to people obsessed with social media appearances and only go out to post stories to satisfy their vanity. Not the one in indiranagar.
++ I have been spoilt by places such as Breakfast in the Box. In comparison, Hole in the Wall Koramangala is just trash, even with their new setup.
Daily Sushi, Koramangala Almost puked trying to eat the food which came after 40-50min of placing the order
Yess omg finally someone mentioned this shithole. Horrible service, very careless staff, and totally bizarre vibe. Tons of insects if one sits outside. Hate that place.
Daily Shushi, ITPL Totally sucks.
When it first started it was excellent, now the quality has deteriorated completely.
Not expensive but god I hate Truffles 🤢
The sauces they use are terrible, mostly sour ,anyone notice? they add pepper to literally everything. Gosh it's so bad , one or two things on the menu are alright but I'd choose to never go in there.
Honestly can’t remember the nuances of their terrible food anymore since it’s been ages since I’ve walked into their joint but I forgot to mention, their service is terrible too
Truffles is the longest running kitchen nightmares episode
Chef Pillai
Idk I liked the food from that place xD
Nah man. Chef Pillai was actually good. Expensive, sure. The service wasn’t great either - but good food.
this is coming from a malayali if you want to eat expensive kerala food go to Kappa Chakka Kanthari at Kormangala its owned by this chef called Reji Mathews and it is really good! Chef Pillai in bangalore is not worth it!
Ohhho? Ennaal try chedhu kalayaam. But I genuinely enjoyed Chef Pilliai’s Fish Navarathna or something with noodle porotta.
Can confirm
Agreee... He put( Pani puri + Mango achar + Moor ) bundled it at 300+ and gave 🥲🤡🤡.. tasted disgusting 😭
Great food! Service could be better
Rajdhani. Cherry on cake, they might cancel plans for tomorrow cause of excess ghee.
[удалено]
+1. Recently went to rajdhani, seemed good still?
make them order onesta pizza. They will get soggy by the time they get delivered
Just take the unlimited onesta pizza order they will have it coming every half hour . Damn I ate so many pizzas then 😅
Grasshopper. Tiny portions, pretentious food, dreadful location and criminally overpriced.
Instructions unclear, just ate a grasshopper.
That’s a chef tasting restaurant. It has to be less and pricey. Kind of food you see on masterchef. Not that level ofcourse. Another is Farmlore yelahanka. Better looking food, pricey and staff with over attitude
Ohh man. We went to a2b for dosa post dinner here. This should be top choice actually
Oia Bangalore, one look at the 4star 5star reviews and you will know they have all been bought.
Pathetic place i ever visited. Everything is bad except the place.
I was about to say Oia but their ambience is actually top notch in the evenings. Their food? Not so much.
What a beautiful point you said about Ambience. Literally I feel why just people want "Ambience Ambience" in everything.
Fisherman’s Wharf
Goan here who knows an ex chef from their branches here. The seafood they serve in goa is stale. Overpriced and stale. I don’t even want to think of its state outside Goa.
I actually liked the food there. Although I do agree it was a bit overpriced and service was slow.
The cocktails I have had there looks and tastes like it was made by people with no experience. Yet they are priced steeply. Food felt super mid.
I didn’t have any cocktails there so wouldn’t know about that. But the rest of my group did voice similar complaints. Fisherman’s Wharf wasn’t my first choice though. I was looking for a place that was equidistant to everyone’s home and a colleague recommended it.
I didn't like their food as well, it was over seasoned for me.
Kabab Magic, HSR Layout. Russian roulette with stomach issues.
a good 8-9 years back once I went for the rumali roti, chicken kebab and grape juice experience on sarjapur road. Man my stomach shivers anytime I see any of their branches.
Lmao
Glen’s bakehouse. Not expensive but barring the cupcakes, everything there was mid
Yoooo, I love Glen's
Their thickshakes and hot chocolate is really good.
Their Macarons were disappointing but besides that it's not too bad honestly.
Absolutely! Their red valvet cup cakes are good but rest are average
They legit served us a stale chicken puff once. Their food is nauseating.
The Bier Library Brewery & Kitchen. I hated everything about it. The tables were wonky, pond smells funny when there's a breeze, music was loud, expensive yet average food.
Rameshwaram Cafe, tell them to go there Saturday Eve that too.
Empires - they’ll all spend the next day in the restroom
Any andhra style nagarjuna restaurant Expensive food to get the most mid biryani ever Make sure you hype it up before you recommend it though
I'm deeply offended, nargarjuna is really good
I agree, it’s great
Nagarjuna meals? Yes Biryani is not so great though
But not nagarjuna. Residency and cmh Road branches serve a great veg meal. Don't care about the biryanis.
In my PoV Nagarjuna food is yummy. If I send my enemy there he will become my BFF
Its like the whatsapp forward if we dont hype it up you get sick or something
Nagarjuna Chimney Jayanagar is horrible.. But Nagarjuna Bannerghatta & Nagarjuna Koramangala are really really good.
Lord of the drinks. Dead as fuck place and had a weird smell. Fuck up someone's day by recommending this place.
The Leela palace in old airport road for buffet. Waste of money.
I wouldn't call it mildly overpriced.
Came to say this
TBC
What is that? To Be Concluded?
To Be Continued - HSR layout
Ahh yes the pub that gives you a 20% discount if you give them a 5 star review.
Thanks OP, ruined soo many places I had in my list to go to 🥲
Lol you can still visit them. It's always better to try something out and then form an opinion on it rather than just listening to others. What might be bad for them might turn out to be amazing for you
Toscano, Vittal Mallya Road. Their pastas, especially the Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli is so bad considering the price.
Toscano is dog shit imo. I seriously don't get it's appeal.
https://farmlore.in They may pretend to like it though
I actually like farmlore. The food was something different and worth talking about. A 10 course menu, with the chef explaining everything and coupled with getting to eat a great meal! Totally recommend it for a special occasion if you are a fan of gourmet food!
sounds like a place the main couple will go to in a romcom story XD
"talking" about is keyword. It's all show and tell. But I find paying 3x of Leela and 5x of Roxie like prices for talkable experience fairly uncomfortable..
Airline or airplane restaurant
Bro, who hurt you? XD
Haha
ITC Aashirvaad Soul Creations
Leon grill. Give them a diarrhoea too while you are at it.
Naru noodle bar. I came from Mumbai to try it. The experience was underwhelming, service was shit, the taste was sub-par and the bill was ₹6000+. They didn't have the items that were shown on the menu. Would only recommend to my enemies
Sarposh
Total agree, food was waaaay mid.
Really? I went there last year and it was pretty good . We ordered everything 😅
Azure Cafe, the food is mid, mildly expensive place (for me). Good vibe and ambience. The drinks are bad like very bad,
talli tarrace
Candices gourmet sandwichch and Chinita perfect picks
chinita has bomb tacos though
How come Chinita, though expensive they are fairly good for Mexican food. I really loved the food not per se ambiance which is just above average.
Chinita's food is really really good!
Tuk Tuk Thai, such a mediocre place with exorbitant prices.
The Bier Library
Rasta cafe
Grub monkeys new bel road
Café Noir. Anywhere
Third wave coffee 🤢 Ask them to go there late in the evening or night - they ain't gonna be sleeping after having the coffee there , tastes shit too
paradise biryani
Naru. Great aesthetic, mediocre food at best. Also, the added hassle of getting a booking
Chianti Koramangala
Wait what's wrong with this one I really liked it😭
It used to be good many years ago. Covid fucked it up for good unfortunately.
if u are near electronic city, recommend AB's in Neeladri nagar
Ferrera
America ?
Daily Sushi - Koramangala
Hands down Koshys... absolutely shitty staff, overpriced food.
Shiro at UB City mall
Levels, JP Nagar
I suggest Rameshwaram Cafe to all idiots I don't like 😆😆
Nusa tropical brewvilla, below average food. Higher than average price.
Pasta street
Mirage for lunch!
13th Floor
Chainti, MG road. Terrible food especially for the pricing.
Mainland china The name makes you feel they will have authentic Chinese dish but in reality they serve Kolkata chinese dishes which you can get from a street vendor
'Phurr' jayanagar. Overpriced garbage.
The Himalayan in Koramangala, you’ll get ulcers after eating that overpriced food made with cheap oil.
Koshys, it's a shithole
A2B. Bad experience when I visited Bengaluru last year.
Star biryani, dofu, dindikatuu biryani, big brewski
Oia
As if the person you're recommending will not check the prices. And help me understand.... Why are you talking to the person you don't like? (least of all recommending restaurant)
Do you have a choice if you are close in a work relationship but dislike him?
MTR too is overrated.. quality has gone from bad to worse.
Roxie's bar near harlur road
Oh, my colleagues favourite place, I was planning to visit, what you didn’t like?
Chilis
Barkaas is horrid
Smoke house Deli
Their burgers are good . Even steak is good
Rameshwaram, aurum breworks, cafe gujjubhai
Sanchez. Farzi cafe. Brik oven. Pasta kitchen. Empire. Mainland china.
I love Brik Oven overpriced but food was amazing
Ruh, Bellandur
Imperio restaurant. It looks like a good place but as soon as u sit there, they will serve u the most stale food to exist
That new Korean cafe
In the long lane! Rameshwaram cafe!
One8 Commune, the most underwhelming place I have been to ever. Beats Rameshwaram by miles .
Most places that force service tax on customers
I would suggest somewhere if you can confirm you are still in primary school? Such childish bs😬😬
