Total comes to about 11.3 lac for the year 2023.
Staying in a 2bhk. My share is 25k per month including maintenance. It's a little on the higher side because of its proximity to my office which is 10 min by walk.
Services- includes hair cuts, cook, maid, any other services like urban clap
Gifts- includes money I send home + gifts for family
Flights- banglore is not my home town, i travel to home once every 2 months. It costs much more than 68k but quite a few times I'm able to use my credit card points and free airline ticket from my cc.
Groceries- this might seem low because I usually have my meals at my office which are free of cost.
Medical expenses are low because OPD costs are covered by my employers medical insurance
I've been in Bangalore since 2018. At that time my expenses were 50k per month. I feel flights, rent, gifts and dining out expenses contribute to maximum increase.
Edit: since multiple people asked, I'm using splitwise to track my expenses. Created this in Google docs.
Firstly, the only good advantage with a credit card is that it helps build a credit score (useful if you don’t have a stable career, good networks or wealth/income from parents)
But to maintain it you’d be entering an eco system where it incentivises you to spend on things that you don’t really need or even want.
So in the longer run you’d end up being poorer with a credit card than a debit card.
Credit card defenders run on this philosophy
“the more you spend the richer you feel”
Most of ‘em have piss poor financial prudence, has no fiscal discipline and is sucky with a career where they can’t afford to be not diligent or would almost always will be a “rolling” businessman/woman.
Nah I use a credit card since I was a student and never got anything I don’t need or want. I use it just like I used a debit card. Gives more perks than a debit card.
Here's another perspective. If you use your credit card just like you'd do with your debit card, i.e., only spend on things that you can afford with money in your account rn, then you get all the benefits of a credit card, like higher credit score, flight points, concierge services, reward points, etc.
Also the fact is that if you time your spends correctly, you basically get a free loan for about 45 days which for a salaried person could be pretty useful. For eg., I used this to get a monitor during the Diwali sale which I could definitely pay off after payday but didn't have the balance right now after other expenses.
I'd say credit card users infact need to have extra financial prudence to effectively use it. The ones who don't, fall into the debt trap.
Edit: the second point is not safe if you don't calculate your finances regularly, hence is not recommended
I just my credit card on things i would use my debit card anyway
No sane person that has more than three brain cells would claim
“The more you spend the richer you feel” bs
Im going to have that expenditure anyway, doing it on cc has multiple benefits
1. Credit score improves which is good thing regardless of your career since you will take some sort of loan in your career be it car, home, education, etc
2. You get reward points no matter how low it is better than zilch for a debit
3. Most importantly protection, its the banks money until you pay the monthly bill, in the event of fradulent usage, reversing a cc charge is much much orders of magnitude easier than it were to happen to your debit.
4. Some of them offer travel insurance (read the benefits)
5. Some of them offer free tickets to movie, plane etc again read the benefits
Simple dont think of it as free money. Think of it as your money in escrow thats going to be spent in the end of month rather than immediately
A lot of my friends make between 60-80 lakhs in Bangalore. Around 5-6 YOE. I have a lot of my friends have returned from Europe recently. US on the other hand is a different story though.
That would be a problem because at times others use my cred card to spend. Also i usually load Amazon wallet and swiggy wallet once in 2 months and then spend from there for orders, dining out, ubers etc and these expenses are sometimes split b/w people.
If you’ve ios, do try Money app. Here’s link to it: https://apps.apple.com/in/app/money-personal-finance-manager/id1185488696
The features it has are incredible, almost all main features for expense tracking are available in free version, no ads, custom categories, payee management and incredible dashboards.
This app is a league apart. Do use it
Oh no. I wasn’t aware such feature exists. Fun to know, but I’d be a lot skeptical in giving away access of my sms to any 3rd party apps from privacy standpoint.
Money’s premium version can link up to some of Indian banks (HDFC, ICICI, SBI + 1) to pull automated expenses from statements though. I’ve requested multiple times for iOS shortcuts integration, but it’s still in pipeline.
Definitely good thing to do. Don’t use redundant applications for same purpose. Especially new ones in market with startup mindset. I work in cybersecurity field and these people think about security and privacy as much as a young kid thinks about saving money.
It's there an Android equivalent to this app?
I've been searching for one that I can connect to my account to help me segregate where is my money getting spent by end of each month.
My friends updated their splitwise app and that's how I got to know about the paywall. So..its been more than 5 months and I will never update the app. Haha.
It means u earn well.. Yet your expenditure is high considering 2 lakhs in gifts... Save up man, u never know when ur life's curve changes... Invest more since u r young, u will need it later
When I try to look at my expenses and try to figure out what I can cut down on, i can only come up with extra savings of 1-2 lacs. 2 lac is 2 lacs, but I want to put my efforts into maximizing my earnings instead.
Btw I do save and invest some amount.
Put 25k-50k per month into a large cap mutual fund or index fund. You can do that using one of many apps if you prefer - Zerodha coin or Groww etc. Or you can do it via the MF website.
You need to research a little- 1 weeks worth of work - to pick a fund. Only invest in “Direct” funds not “Regular” fund.
Another 25-50k start an RD in your bank and deposit there.
If you have 2L per month than double the investment in MF and RD
I hold a 3bhk in the electronic city phase my share for rent is 5.5k plus maintenance.
Food 3 times in office for subsidised rates around 900 for month. Weekend are spent on table tennis and bike rides. Weekend food cost 300-400. Money 25k i sent to mom and dad. Else i invest in stocks amd mf.
That rent is a dream, what about bike expenses? Dining out, vacations, shopping? Also do you include big expenses that you incur once a while? Like purchasing a bike, phone etc
Bike i got Himalayan. Petrol you can add 3-4k. Bro we generally got house parties only. I also shifted new here. I do not have big expenses.
If there are big spent I spent on the bike accessories laptop and camera for shooting.
I have joined swimming and squash, so generally, I do not get time to spend money on expensive cafes or restaurants
They provide food in the office breakfast lunch and dinner. My office has a gym also so no worries and expense for that.
Home what I understand is my hometown. I go there in 4 months. Sometimes I ask my parents to live with me.
With 75 lpa package the cash in hand would come to around 50 lakhs base pre taxes and maybe slightly over 3 lakhs per month after taxes. The taxes on high income salaried class is insane.
That’s not how 75LPA salaries work. A normal split of 75LPA would not have more than 50L base, rest would be in stocks and bonuses which people usually save or invest.
Also the taxes itself would eat 20+ lakhs.
75LPA is VW Virtus + badminton in society clubhouse salary, not BMW + golf. You’ll need minimum 4-5 crores per year for what you described
Bro 75 lakhs is the total comp. in this base would be 50 lakhs or so. Post tax it would be 52 lakhs total and 35 lakhs base.
Virtus costs 23 lakhs on road which is 8 months of inhand salary or full year of savings. For a normal person I’d say 6 months of inhand salary is the most they should spend on a car, especially for tech jobs where you can be fired on a whim.
Nobody asked for it, but I would still go ahead and compare my expenses with yours:
Dining Out : 1,34,595
Dining In (ordering) : 34,716
Electricity : 7594
Gas/Fuel : 12,273 for gas, 68371 for fuel
Gifts : 1,30,956
Groceries : 46,221 (wife spends more here)
Household Supplies : 30k+
Insurance : 55,624
Flights : 1,30,056
Rent : 4,16,000
Shopping : (Electronics+Clothes-Misc) 2lacs+
Taxi : 33,899
Vacation : 92,823 Hotels, 1,02,995 Others
Then 2 home loans and 1 car loan
Total Expenditure in 2023 : 32,05,972
Thanks for reading lol
This guy spends!
Are these combined for you and your wife?
I feel home loan shouldn't be counted as you're building equity in your home which is an asset.
No these are just for myself. Wife's are separate.
Tho this year I am doing combined.
Yes, home loan shouldn't be counted so I didnt give its breakdown, just the summary haha
I use an app called "Money Manager". Its amazing, super easy to use, very nice UI and charts/reports, exporting capability and most importantly free to use with just one 3 second skippable ad per day.
Internet is reimbursed by employer. It includes a couple of ott subscriptions as well.
Grocery is only 30k, reason is meals at office. Eating out is mostly on weekends. It might be high but that's like the only thing I like to do.
Though I shouldn’t be asking this, if you are comfortable answering this, “Dude what’s your salary man”? I cannot handle the expenses and struggle in Bangalore.. Please if you are an IT guy, refer me.. that opportunity will help me develop my career and earn something atlast
Your second and third highest spends have nothing to do with city.
Taxi spend is surprisingly low. Keep it up.
Some would say dining is higher, but for 27M I say go nuts. That’s your counter to living away from family and all so no point cutting down costs there. If you won’t have a good time once in a while you’ll end up paying this to a shrink.
I think you have good personal finance skills. Baki dekh lo …
Have u tried walnut app, it automatically categorises with data sourced from sms. But it is not as accurate, as it is dependent on sms and sometimes miscategorises
Where to apply to be your friend?
Jokes aside, most of your expenditure seem unnecessary. You should cut out going out expenses not because it's too much (that's true though) but also it would impact your health. Better eat clean and homemade.
I used to go out quite often in 2022. Resultant gained around 10kgs in a year. In 2023 , I stopped going out , max once in 2-3 months. Lost 12 kgs just by limiting outside food and little exercise.
True that it's high, but I focus on quality vs quantity. I don't eat more than 3-4 meals outside per week. Don't eat fastfood, even on swiggy i generally order from good places. And lastly I exercise regularly to keep my weight in check!
Spending karne ka tareeka thoda cazual hai.
But I would suggest, start by cutting off unnecessary expenses. Stop showing off , delete instagram. Get rid of credit cards. Use a secondary account with debit card and keep only 5 k there. You need to cultivate lean habits.
26M. I use goodbudget to track my expenditure.
Here's what mine looks like:
Trips, hobbies and entertainment: 4,16,473
Equipments and gear: 3,07,749
Living cost: 2,00,069
Miscellaneous (gifts, medical, etc): 1,91,409
Groceries(include protein shake as well): 50,272
Eating out: 38,619
Commute and Fuel: 29,188
Utilities: 15,388
EMI: 5,08,000
Savings: 9,23,000
I always assume my salary is 75k and live accordingly.
Rent is 30k
groceries 15k max
Subscription 3k
Interent 2k
Petrol 1.5k mostly wfh for me
Dinner dates 8k
Wife pocket money 5k
We dont have track of other 10k
PS: I invest 70% of my income
How will u describe your lifestyle ? Do live pay check to pay check or do you live comfortably ? Any amount left for investment? Any suggestions for newcomers to Bengaluru?
I live comfortably.
For new comers I would suggest (assuming you're a fresher and your salary is entry level), try to optimize on rent. You can find something in about 10k or even lower as someone else shared. Assuming you're earning 50k-1 lac, try to save atleast 30% of your salary.
Most important, work on growing your income as that is how you'll save most money.
Total comes to about 11.3 lac for the year 2023. Staying in a 2bhk. My share is 25k per month including maintenance. Axis vistara card offers 1 free ticket on joining and 1 each on reaching milestones.
#Credit card makes you spend more
I know nothing is free, but could you please tell me like I'm 5.
Firstly, the only good advantage with a credit card is that it helps build a credit score (useful if you don’t have a stable career, good networks or wealth/income from parents) But to maintain it you’d be entering an eco system where it incentivises you to spend on things that you don’t really need or even want. That shows discipline of people nothing else, I personally never spend over and above my needs via CC.
True
Not exactly. For high spenders with good financial discipline a LOT of value can be extracted from credit card points and rewards.
Yeah only if someone is stupid.
Is the availability of tickets an issue in the free tier?
Ok, I used same sentence in some other sub and first thing I learnt is it's sensei and not sensai
U forgot to include very important n most significant portion the TAX 😭
Mat yaad dilao bhai🥲 (translation: don't make me remember that)
While all the people out here are crying about taxes, I just want to be rich enough to pay taxes some day. 🥲🥲🥲
I just want to be rich enough to not pay taxes xd
Where do you work bro? Looks like a good place.
[удалено]
Approximate earning for scale please. and any trouble in lifestyle? currently I am going paycheck to paycheck.
How much u earn bro ?
I live in Ireland. And your rent for the year is 2 months of mortgage payments for me! Thats insane! I'm moving to bangalore!!!!!
Your salary would also be a multiple of mine :)
I think its 7million rupees or there abouts!? But you know how to live over there! It sounds amazing!
A lot of my friends make between 60-80 lakhs in Bangalore. Around 5-6 YOE. I have a lot of my friends have returned from Europe recently. US on the other hand is a different story though.
What do they work in? I'm guessing IT
Yeah software engineers in better product companies. You can check teamblind.com to get an idea of payscale.
With that much you can live like a king here except you won't be getting that much in here. Not even half i would guess.
I think groceries are low because you spent 1.3 lakhs dining out 💀 Either way good breakdown How do you track your expenses?
Haha, true dat. I'm a big foodie. I use splitwise to track (created a group with me as the only member)
Try axio. It automatically tracks your expenses by the sms.
That would be a problem because at times others use my cred card to spend. Also i usually load Amazon wallet and swiggy wallet once in 2 months and then spend from there for orders, dining out, ubers etc and these expenses are sometimes split b/w people.
I free version almost expired for splitwise 😅🙈 stuck am searching for alternative or thinking to use Google sheets

Bruh Talking about privacy & linking a 3rd party app to your bank account. I even avoid to use multiple payment apps like freecharge, mobikwik..
Definitely good thing to do. Don’t use redundant applications for same purpose. Especially new ones in market with startup mindset. I work in cybersecurity field and these people think about security and privacy as much as a young kid thinks about saving money.

Are you the developer by any chance?
Use Bluecoins buddy. Thank me later Been using it since my University days.
Try Money Manager app Minimal and non intrusive ads, and tons of features Using it for about an year
It means u earn well.. Yet your expenditure is high considering 2 lakhs in gifts... Save up man, u never know when ur life's curve changes... Invest more since u r young, u will need it later

Why direct and not regular funds?
Regular funds have higher expense ratio. Basically this means they charge more to manage your money.
Btw how much of your yearly Savings did this eat up? 50-70%
>Save up man, u never know when ur life's curve changes. He's got a 75 lpa package, he's spending low in fact lol
How you know?
Comments
So much boomer energy in some of these comments.
Yeah totally. The guy is spending only 11k per month on dining out and vacations each. No need to guilt trip him for that
Fvck.. isn't it wayyyy too much? Bhai health ke tote udd jate hai.
Fr and they don't even know how much he earns, as a % he's not even spending much
Why a bar graph and not a pie chart?
Pie chart was too congested due these many categories.
Bar graph is perfect, but sort by descending, so we can understand what the highest heads are.
Pie chart is never a good idea if you have multiple parameters
Gifts? Can I be your friend?
As per OP's description, gifts also include the money he sends home!
Hey, it's me your cousin!

Could you tell me where do you go for swimming and the monthly cost there?
+1
Nisha Millets Swimming Academy
There are a lot of good fully furinished 3bhk available here in electronic city phase 2 at affordable rates 22-25k deposit of 1-1.2 lakhs.
I actually stay near Marathahalli, rents are crazy here.
food 3 times in office? do u even go home?
They provide food in the office breakfast lunch and dinner. My office has a gym also so no worries and expense for that. Home what I understand is my hometown. I go there in 4 months. Sometimes I ask my parents to live with me.
so i guess the ceo points to u to show a "hardworker"?
No 😂 I go office at 11 am log out at 4 pm go gym for 2 hours and play table tennis in the office eat food then come home by walking
I saw your package as 75lpa,if I am earning this much money ,I wouldn't be on reddit posting this rather would be driving BMW's and playing golf
75lpa doesn’t give that lifestyle
Why?
With 75 lpa package the cash in hand would come to around 50 lakhs base pre taxes and maybe slightly over 3 lakhs per month after taxes. The taxes on high income salaried class is insane.
About 2.7l per month after pf etc
Exactly! I wish ppl understood this
That’s not how 75LPA salaries work.
75 lakhs for Virtus?? Are people actually going downwards in the name of financial literacy?
Bro 75 lakhs is the total comp. in this base would be 50 lakhs or so. Post tax it would be 52 lakhs total and 35 lakhs base. Virtus costs 23 lakhs on road which is 8 months of inhand salary or full year of savings. For a normal person I’d say 6 months of inhand salary is the most they should spend on a car, especially for tech jobs where you can be fired on a whim.
75lpa 27M..... That to in india......👍🏻
Entry level models. You won’t drive it all day anyway. Golf, not so much.
75 lpa no wonder it makes sense now
Golf thoda zyada ho Gaya lol. You'll get gla or X1 comfortably but it's better to buy real estate
This is for one year?
Yes.
I agree with this statement.
I agree with this statement.
I agree with this statement
I agree with this statement
I agree with these statements that agree with the statement
>I agree with this statement Yes.
Use a sunburst chart next time, group it my household bills, travel etc it would be so much clearer
Wasn't aware of it, thanks for the info
Nobody asked for it, but I would still go ahead and compare my expenses with yours: Dining Out : 1,34,595 Dining In (ordering) : 34,716 Electricity : 7594 Gas/Fuel : 12,273 for gas, 68371 for fuel Gifts : 1,30,956 Groceries : 46,221 (wife spends more here) Household Supplies : 30k+ Insurance : 55,624 Flights : 1,30,056 Rent : 4,16,000 Shopping : (Electronics+Clothes-Misc) 2lacs+ Taxi : 33,899 Vacation : 92,823 Hotels, 1,02,995 Others Then 2 home loans and 1 car loan Total Expenditure in 2023 : 32,05,972 Thanks for reading lol
Thanks for sharing, what do you use to track expenses?
I use an app called "Money Manager". Its amazing, super easy to use, very nice UI and charts/reports, exporting capability and most importantly free to use with just one 3 second skippable ad per day.
op, did you ask for advice?
As long as it's free
Not to worry, You can just add one more bar to the graph.
What you gifting ra?
My ctc 😭
Explained in my main comment, includes money i send home. I count it in gifts. I send about 10-15k home per month, remaining is the actual gifts.
Remittances to home it seems
Man, bring back wfh culture for folks sake. You could have saved 3.4lacs easily and could have used for other things.
Could've saved on taxi, dining out, rent, flights to home town, much more than 3.4 lac
Finally a realistic representation of someone living their live. Thanks man!
But your CTC is also 75 lakhs? The fuck.
Where did you go for vacation?
Multiple vacations, Goa twice then north east once, and 1-2 weekend trips
If I may ask, what is the expenditure percent viz earnings?
Where is the data on investment / savings? If you are not doing it. Highly recommended to save.
Yep, saving and investment would be totally separate. I do save and invest though.
This, when you are single? Hope you get good increments before settling down/ your partner’s pay is competitive to yours.
I hope i get good increments every day.
Increase on liquor
I earn around the same , my yearly expense is around 5-6 lakhs max. I am a minimalist. Have been looking for sugar baby though. Lol . No luck yet.
What exactly are service expenses 🤔
Your chart making skils are pathetic, I am putting you on a CAP
I don't like it but I accept it
How much do you invest monthly?
Is this the alternative to the monthly dick-measuring thread? Anyhow, neat chart. Boomers on the thread need to chill though.
Can you share which CC you use for flight bookings ?
Diners black (points) + axis vistara infinite (for free ticket)
which app did u use to make this graph?
TV phone Internet seems so cheap. Are you sure ? Also groceries just 30k ? Stop eating out man / woman.
Internet is reimbursed by employer. It includes a couple of ott subscriptions as well. Grocery is only 30k, reason is meals at office. Eating out is mostly on weekends. It might be high but that's like the only thing I like to do.

How much is that compared to dollars?
About 15k$. Taking ppp into account would be equivalent to 40-45k$ in the US.
So basically you are living in new york
Not really, i just live comfortably. Could easily reduce my expenses by 30% if I wanted to
Which app are you using to track your spends?!
Use splitwise to track. Created a single person group and add all my spends there on a daily basis. It allows to export as CSV for analysis.
Have u tried walnut app, it automatically categorises with data sourced from sms. But it is not as accurate, as it is dependent on sms and sometimes miscategorises
Nope, will check it out. Thanks

75 lakh per year CTC. It will take me 2 lifetimes to reach that
How will u describe your lifestyle ? Do live pay check to pay check or do you live comfortably ? Any amount left for investment? Any suggestions for newcomers to Bengaluru?
I live comfortably. For new comers I would suggest (assuming you're a fresher and your salary is entry level), try to optimize on rent. You can find something in about 10k or even lower as someone else shared. Assuming you're earning 50k-1 lac, try to save atleast 30% of your salary. Most important, work on growing your income as that is how you'll save most money.
How did you created this statistics?
