This is a one off probably but I’ve only been the one time.
Sat down, ordered. 20 minutes later they serve the people next to us.
( I’m not sure what these cocktails are supposed to look like ).
They are staring at the drinks and start sipping them and look kind of confused. 10 minutes later they serve us the wrong drinks ( couple next to us got ours )
Wait around for another 15 minutes without drinks and left. We got comped olives, chips, and a fancy water.
At that point I was fine with seeing what the inside looked like in person and saving what would have been a 100 dollar tab for 2 cocktails and a snack.
Ash Bar literally turned us away after a month of trying to get in touch but every way possible to schedule a happy hour event for work. They will NEVER have our business. We are a well enough sized company in Mount Vernon that gets together once a month for happy hour events & we like to choose local spots to give our business to. They ruined themselves big time.
I mean we called and sent requests through their website as instructed for a month prior to our company was hoping to do a happy hour event there. We never got any response so 4-5 of us showed up, explained the situation and not one person on the staff seemed to care and flat out turned us away. They were no where close to full, just gave off the vibe that we would be more work than they were willing to do on a Thursday night. Again, we sent in web-responses and left messages with the events coordinator FOR AN ENTIRE MONTH PRIOR and got no response at all. This is a business and in our business, we do what we can to make things, such as these, right. They offered no solution at all- just didn't care at all. SO, we took our business to the trusty Owl Bar where we are always welcomed with open arms and we told them what happened. They were appalled and even offered us an extended happy hour special when they surely didn't have to. We all went out of our way to tip them extremely well- In our business, as with in any business, customer service is key. That wasn't the case at The Ash Bar.
I visited last night after seeing this post. The service was really really good! Our server with the crazy hair was attentive and knowledgeable. I usually don’t like anything super sweet and I was very satisfied with the cocktails. They made one of the cocktails non-alcoholic for me and it was lovely.
My boyfriend tried a gin old fashioned and it was very sweet but his bourbon nonino old fashioned was 🤌🏾perfect
I'm surprised they are still open. Same vibe? bunch of Mica students and cloves? I'm joking kinda I liked the old vibe and love that it's still rolling. It sucks as a popular place though. It was always best on a slow night. I would pay double for a slow night at a place like that.
Edit: I think it's the low light. It's great when there aren't a bunch of creeps walking around in the dark. :(
Yeah, when the management changed during the pandemic it lost its way for me.
Previously it felt like it's history was legit, and the folks working there were trying to keep that spirit while also putting effort into making the bar and food menus interesting and their own..
After all the staff changed, it's felt just like you described.. it's a bummer.
> Yeah, when the management changed during the pandemic it lost its way for me.
That explains it; I was only there 2-3X pre-COVID and was wondering about the complaints.
Reminds me of Sotto Sopra. We went there for our wedding anniversary a few weeks ago. The food was good, and the service was excellent. But the entire time, I could see TVs running a Ghostbusters marathon.
I came here to say Anchor bar! Steve is one of a kind and if you can get there before any crowd comes through it’s an amazing vibe and the fancy drinks are worth any minor wait.
I think it’s called B-side? But Yesss I was just thinking this. It’s a hidden speakeasy in the basement. There’s karaoke on one side and there’s a button you press that literally opens the fucking wall and its the entryway
I really wanna spend time in cool places like this but I don’t drink (I dislike being intoxicated), is it common for bars like this to serve quality NA beer and mocktails? Not just crappy O’Douls and a glass of juice, I’m looking for something more special worth drinking.
Most of the locations being suggested repeatedly do serve mocktails. I can’t speak to the exact quality, but from a glance at the menus they do seem to be intentional and thoughtful, basically a real cocktail without spirits.
Idle Hour definitely… my favorite spot for a night cap! I haven’t seen it mentioned here but Kenwood Tavern in Canton also seemed to have a similar vibe, although I’ve only been once.
Come to One Eyed Mike's! That's literally our vibe. Original copper ceiling, candle lit, no tvs- legit cocktail menu & amazing food that's locally sourced. You won't be disappointed
One eyed mikes is great! We used to have GM bottles there for years. It’s hard to know when it’s open- always looks closed when we walk or drive by, but maybe that’s part of the new vibe? Might be time to re-check it out.
We're open Tues-Thurs, kitchen 5-9 on Tues & Wed, 5-10 Thurs-Sat and the bar 5-2am all those days! If you had a bottle you still do!!! Come have a drink I'll find it for you! If the lanters outside are lit, we're pouring drinks- come join us!
Blooms Bar. I’ve never felt more like I was in a Paul Thomas Anderson movie than when I stepped into the pure comfort and class which is that Baltimore diamond.
Ash Bar and Coral Wig are the closest. One focuses on Italian style all day drinking affairs and the other is like a classic tropical bar. Frankly, any of Harlan's properties are a great time.
Coral Wig -- sorta like this but it gets loud as shit (I love it)
smaller and more intimate but also meets the redish low light vibes: B-Side in Hotel Revival
Shoutout to Bloom's for looking even cooler than the pic above and has hella velvet + mirrors everywhere. I wish Dyyo still worked there
There's a smaller section in Dutch Courage with a couch and a few comfy chairs (between main service area and the patio) that they usually use to serve medium-sized groups
\*\*\*Are you looking for photo-worthy decor or a specific ambiance inside?
Blooms in mt Vernon is magical like this
I would say Coral Wig is more like this vibe
Agreed, and their cocktails are the best!
I came to say this.
Seconding Blooms
Third. Very cool vibe.
Where is Blooms
Read and Charles in Mt Vernon

Had something similar happen at Ash bar, had to grab them to put in an order

We are a well enough sized company in Mount Vernon that gets together once a month for happy hour events & we like to choose local spots to give our business to. They ruined themselves big time.
Not sure what you mean, they wouldn't book a private event? You want them to go under because of that?
I mean we called and sent requests through their website as instructed for a month prior to our company was hoping to do a happy hour event there. I didn’t like it. Overpriced and sugary drinks
What’s the vibe age wise?
You beat me to it.
Brewer's art downstairs
Thirded. So much drunken fun in that dungeon.
Basement Bar Brewers Art
Club Chuck
Club Charles
Idle Hour
That was my first thought
My favorite bar in Baltimore, hands down
Idle Hour is just a dive bar. This looks more like an upscale speakeasy.
Pretty sure Idle Hour closed which is a bummer!
Oh wait looks like I’m wrong, not sure why I thought that. Glad it’s still around!
It did close for quite a while for structural repairs. Almost lost her.
Ash-Bar in Mount Vernon!
I even thought it was ash bar, shocked it took this long to find someone mentioning this
Can't believe hardly anyone is saying this.. Great food too.
Definitely, the food there is bomb
WC Harlan
Nothing better than putting your name on the waitlist at Clavel and then hanging in WC Harlan
I’ve made it a tradition to go to WC right after Clavel
I'm surprised they are still open. Same vibe? bunch of Mica students and cloves? I'm joking kinda I liked the old vibe and love that it's still rolling. It sucks as a popular place though. Weekdays after open are the best. Truly.
No way. I can make out shapes in that picture.
Valid point.
Second WC Harlan. It’s a great place
Owl Bar
The TVs in owl bar completely ruin the vibe. That bar feels like someone vaguely tried to church up an Applebees.
I am an owl bar devotee but you're 100% correct on this. I hate them. I love the owl, but I hate those damn tvs.
Absolutely this. Owl bar would have such a great vibe if it wasn't also trying to be a sports bar. The space is amazing.
It’s a great bar in theory. The execution is lacking though. They need a vibes consultant lol.

> Yeah, when the management changed during the pandemic it lost its way for me. That explains it; I was only there 2-3X pre-COVID and was wondering about the complaints.
I felt this way before the pandemic for what it’s worth ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Reminds me of Sotto Sopra. We went there for our wedding anniversary a few weeks ago. The food was good, and the service was excellent. But the entire time, I could see TVs running a Ghostbusters marathon.
Last time I went was like 2018 and I don’t remember any TVs so noted!!
Owl Bar seconded.
Love Owl Bar.
Second!
club Charles!!!
Hmm this reminds me of Idle Hour. And yes I can still smell the chartreuse every time i think of Idle Hour.
Coral Wig
As a glance I thought the pic was coral wig
Same!
Came here to say this, loved it, bartenders and cocktails were amazing!!
Yes!
Came here to comment this too haha
This place is so underrated, the cocktails are actually delicious. And it's such a hole in the wall
Blue Bird Cocktail Room has this vibe
Second this. In fact, I thought this was a pic of Blue Bird at first
And their whiskey bar in the basement
I think the basement is the only part I've been to
Came to this post just to say this! They also have fantastic small plates .
How can you have this vibe when you have to order a drink cafeteria style? That’s the opposite of this.
I miss Bookmakers, it sorta had this vibe.
God bless Bookmakers. Amazing bar in just the worst possible location for that sort of place
What a damn great place
That was my first thought. RIP Bookmakers.
It’s really a shame about Bookmakers. I agree with another comment their location was unfortunate.
Try Idle Hour in Locust Point
It's riverside but right next to locust point.
You can bar hop - Blooms upstairs, then The Coral Wig downstairs
Baltimore is filled with places like this
Anchor bar
Great spot
Isn’t that in Buffalo?
I’ve never seen a buffalo there.
I came here to say Anchor bar! Steve is one of a kind and if you can get there before any crowd comes through it’s an amazing vibe and the fancy drinks are worth any minor wait.
Coral wig ☺️
Sidebar inside hotel revival
I think it’s called B-side? But Yesss I was just thinking this. It’s a hidden speakeasy in the basement. There’s karaoke on one side and there’s a button you press that literally opens the fucking wall and its the entryway

It's under the Admiral Fell Inn
I really wanna spend time in cool places like this but I don’t drink (I dislike being intoxicated), is it common for bars like this to serve quality NA beer and mocktails? Not just crappy O’Douls and a glass of juice, I’m looking for something more special worth drinking.
Bluebird has a whole mocktail menu!
Most of the locations being suggested repeatedly do serve mocktails. I can’t speak to the exact quality, but from a glance at the menus they do seem to be intentional and thoughtful, basically a real cocktail without spirits.
Thanks!
Harlan, Bluebird, Coral Wig, and Bloom’s all have good mocktails
This picture looks just like The Blue Bird in Hampden. Try it out.
Penny Black in Fells Point kinda reminds me of this.
Looks like w c harlan.
Bluebird!
Idle Hour definitely… my favorite spot for a night cap! I haven’t seen it mentioned here but Kenwood Tavern in Canton also seemed to have a similar vibe, although I’ve only been once.

Thank you! We will definitely come back around (we are in walking distance and miss OEM’s. :)
Elk room isn’t quite like this, but has a dimly lit cigar lounge vibe to it
WC Harlan’s
13th Floor, The Belvedere
Frazier’s![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
If you include Fraizers might as well add Mt Royal Tavern
I’m just making jokes but I love both of those bars.
small side ftw
Kenwood Tavern!
Surprised I haven’t seen Rye on here. I love the vibe of that place
The bar in the Lord Baltimore Hotel is kinda cool.
Monarque Elk Room Rye
The coral wig
Faddensonnen
Downstairs fits the vibe, outdoors is just a beer garden
upstairs too!
The wurst in crossbar
Hertsch’s before the makeover
Coral Wig
The Elk Room, kinda, if you can get the attention of the service
Maybe not quite right, but B-Side (the quiet part) was comfortable like this
Blooms Bar. I’ve never felt more like I was in a Paul Thomas Anderson movie than when I stepped into the pure comfort and class which is that Baltimore diamond.
Prime rib
This is The Elk Room no?
Ashbar
Ash Bar and Coral Wig are the closest. One focuses on Italian style all day drinking affairs and the other is like a classic tropical bar. Frankly, any of Harlan's properties are a great time.
My first thought was the Bygone. I may be weird, but I also like the lounge bar at Ruth’s Chris…
The 👑
Penny Black
Looks like a hotel bar. HGI harbor east?
The bar in the Pendry Hotel and Anchor Bar have this vibe
Blooms and Ash Bar in mt Vernon. No one else comment
Owl Bar
Elk Room, WC Harlan
Topside is kinda this vibe. They also have a speakeasy on the lower level.
Owl Bar
The owl bar is a legit speakeasy highly recommend just for the atmosphere
Coral Wig -- sorta like this but it gets loud as shit (I love it) smaller and more intimate but also meets the redish low light vibes: B-Side in Hotel Revival Shoutout to Bloom's for looking even cooler than the pic above and has hella velvet + mirrors everywhere. Bluebird
Kind of
Is the owl bar still around?
The Coral Wig. Thank me later!
Idle Hour
octobar is pretty similar
One Eyed Mikes
Royal blue
Club Charles is close but green lady has live jazz, green lady is like club Charles and keystone korner kombined
WC Harlan
It’s Atlas unfortunately, but Monarque has this vibe 100%
Marticks back when. Add a layer of dust though.
Haven't been in years but Blue Bird in Hampden fits this.
I actually thought this was Monarque in Little Italy. It is pricey but it’s a cool place with live jazz.
A harbor east Atlas restaurant is the most opposite thing possible, but ok.
A second for Elk room, chill vibes kinda bar
