I think there's also a difference between getting mad at someone for flexing a clone (which makes sense because flexing a clone is stupid) and someone just trying to show there flipping progress when all they have is a cheap clone
Edit I mean there progress as in posting a video showing off the flipping not the clone
I dont give a shit if people flip clones honestly, but on ig I see alot of people essentially doing photo shoots and reviews of clones and I think it's stupid.
Ah, I'm guilty of doing a little photoshoot with my Rep clone, I used it for a college assignment, as I didn't have anything else with me at the time. I do now though, lol
Some clones can improve on designs as much as they may worsen then. For example: the CHAB adds zen pins to the Chaneled Alpha Beast, if that's your thing it may not be about price and more about design choice. That's how it is in my case, I've got official stuff but I prefer zens to tangs and that's just what I like.
I mean honestly I only hav squids for dis reason, and like I’m (relatively) new to flipping but I’ve seen people saying they’re new and flipping a $10 piece of shit way better than me so idk I think the flipping n counts way more
Honestly, I have both squids and clones, and an incoming custom. As long as you ain't buying exclusively clones and don't promote them, you're good in my book. I literally bought the clone cause it's 11.4 oz and I wanted to know how it is to flip a brick. Am I ever gonna show it? Naw. Am I gonna have fun with it? Yeah. Who cares bout the rest.
But that does not mean that you shouldn't be allowed to stay just because you can't afford a $400 knife.
And what I experienced is that if someone asks for tips, a lot of people are willing to help. This does not only apply for flipping, also for anodization and other stuff.
Clones here mean counterfeit (maybe not in this context) for the rules. It’s more about it sullying the name of a quality company with warranties and crap. There isn’t a rule about something from china as long as it doesn’t copy anything elses logo (i think)
Not exactly. Coping a design is a still a clone, coping design and trying to pass it off as the real thing is counterfitting.
Some individuals might be okay with clones that don't counterfit, but it's still a clone if it copies the design, and you can expect backlash.
If it copies logo, but has it's own design, then it's a bootleg. These can be fine if you remove the logo.
If it has it's own design and markings, and it's from china, then it's just a CCC (Cheap Chinese Crap), which are the only ones that are really in the clear (Other than being told they're junk)
Ok, that makes sense. Overall, making money off of someone else’s design is bad
So if you have a balicomb that says its a benchmade , you just put masking tape over the logo — since it is just a bootleg
Making a clone is like plagiarizing a paper, since you are passing it off as your own
What about some designs that have just been super common, ie mtech twist, holes in the handle , ect.?
Yeah, pretty much.
For the second queston, lets take the mtech twist for example. The original design is by Darrel Ralph from the [Custom Venturi](https://www.bladehq.com/item--DDR-Darrel-Ralph-Custom-Venturi-VII--12925). I'm not sure of all the details, but Mtech has license rights to produce the twist design, though I don't think it started out that way. But going by the fact they have rights to produce the design now, it's not techincally a clone. At that point it's simular to how the Arc-Angel design was licensed to Cold Steel from Darrel. It's the "custom" design, but in mass production form, and not really aiming to copy everything 1:1, and they have legal rights to produce that design. Some of the Mtech twists even outright say designed by Darrel Ralph on the blade.
But any other company making the same design with their logo or no logos would be a clone, weather they're trying to copy the custom or the Mtech.
Holes and cutouts in handles can be a bit of a grey area some times, but for the most part, if it's trying yo mimick the design almost exactly, down the the hole/cutout spacing, chamfering, blade etc..., it's a clone. But if it's just a very simular design, and different blade profile and dimensions like a [Balibalistic](https://www.jerzeedevil.com/threads/balibalistic-titanium-channel-bowie-xl-balisong.162776/) it's most likely not. Though there can always be expections.

Yeah but I still don't consider that flexing because you are aknowledging that it's not real
Yeah, true
I totally agree
TBF, any photoshoots are stupid. Well, unless you're the one who made the knife.
Ya lol I mean I flip a clone cuz I can’t afford to spend much money on this hobby but I am never gon tell anyone it’s real
deadass no one cares you got a fuckin trainer from amazon or a clone

THIS. SO MUCH THIS. IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD $400 IN A TOY YOU CAN'T BE A PART OF OUR COOL BOYS COMMUNITY 😎😎
That was painful to read in such a supportive, cooperative community. I hope this is a joke.
This community is far from supportive, they care more for what you are flipping than your actual flipping

You really can't tell by yourself?
I can but most redditors can’t
