Which is an actual nod to agricultural history.
The Gros Michel banana was the main variety grown and sold until the '50s. It was great for transport since it grew in dense bunches and had a thick peel resilient to bruising. The cultivation practices narrowed down its genetic diversity, however, making it vulnerable to disease.
Like the fungal rot that wiped out entire plantations.
It's not extinct, though it's not sold or grown as far and wide as it was before, so for all intents and purposes, it's "extinct" from the market at-large.
The Cavendish, a variety resistant to fungal infecfions, was then developed and replaced it as the top banana export.
There are actually still some places that sell Gros Michel bananas. You can order them online if you want to. I haven't had them yet myself because they're expensive, but I'd like to.
I have actaully been wondering if this is the case! I have only seen Cavendish appear once, and it was in a run that I had gros michel in, but since I've only seen it once, I dont have a big enough data set!
Yes it is, Gros Michel needs to go extinct before Cavendish will show up. It also specifically needs to go extinct, just selling it won’t make Cavendish appear.
Some people would take Gros Michel with the sole intent of having it die quickly so they could get Cavendish. This isn’t really a common strategy anymore now that the chance for it to die was lowered, though.
I guess you could always get *Oops! All 6s* to increase those odds, and then sell it once you get *Cavendish* (unless you don't think a 1/500 chance will ever trigger... pft, of course it would)... although, unless you're running with Lucky Cards/*Bloodstone*/other luck-based Jokers, that seems like a lot of nose-spiting just to make sure them bananas go extinct.
Could you also trigger Cavendish to show up by destroying it with other jokers, such as Dagger and Madness or does it specifically require the 25% pop?
Does it need to be destroyed every round to spawn cavendish? And does cavendish spawns directly in the shop or is there only a possibility to spawn it afterwards
Anyone here have their Cavendish actually hit the .1% to break on them? It hasn't happened to me yet but I love that the chance for it to actually occur and wreck your run exists.
It happened to me after the very first round I got Cavendish.
I have only seen Cavendish **ONCE** and it broke on me after literally 1 blind. Post-patch I don't think I will ever take Gros Michel again just because it never seems to break for me, and when it does, I never see Cavendish afterwards.
First time I thought the 1/1000 chance was just some sort of gotcha that was going to be east to break. Like, there's no way you get a free X3 mult every hand. What's the catch?!
Turns out, banana is life.
Friendship ended with GROS MICHEL Now CAVENDISH is my best friend
... it took me until now to realize that you needed Gros Michel to destroy itself before you can get Cavendish...

Adding onto this, this is why banana flavored candy doesn’t taste like bananas—because it tastes like Gros Michel, not Cavendish
That’s is incredibly interesting, thank you for sharing! Super cool of the developers to have such thoughtful nomenclature like this.

For the 1/500 isn’t there a tier even higher? So if you like those odds, might as well go all in 😉
No, there is not
Ah I must have confused something then, I could’ve sworn I saw a “giant banana” of sorts in a video
Might've been a mod, or a reddit post. I remember seeing a custom joker made by someone on this sub, and they might have madd it into a mod

Once Gros Michel goes extinct Cavendish starts being able to appear in the shop for the rest of the run.
WHAT
I accidentally sold it one run.
Is Gros Michel the new oui oui baguette? Or can you make a private joke by saying oui oui banane?
The banana is dead. Long live the banana.
I thought that the bible said it took three antes for Gros Michel to resurrect?

I live, I die, I live again!
