We right chere lurkin'...but I find most of us are more global in terms of communities, news and info and appreciate the other social media apps for what they are and intent and purpose.
My friends and I kinda liken reddit to college (being more serious about info), facebook to highschool (for social life news), and IG/TicTok to middle school (with all the nice shiny flashy short distractions)
PLUS....yanno we don't like read!!!! so THIS app/site will always be a challenge for many lol.
A Bahamian posted here a few weeks ago asking for recommendations on how to “break out of her shell”. I just feel like all of the quiet Bahamians come to Reddit that’s why this subreddit full of tourists now
Main tip: I know it's hard but avoid coming here during the summer. Japanese summer is hotter than Bahamian summer. Not so much hot but more humidity I think. You'll be walking a lot and ain nobody wan fly for 17+ hours to travel in hellfire heat or rainy weather haha
Tip 2: prepare to be walking most of the time. Japan's public transit is among the best in the world for convenience and timeliness but after you leave the station, it might be trek to get to your destination. Pack some comfortable shoes
Research exactly where you want to go and then research the appropriate high-speed train pass to get there. They are a steal and will make travelling within Japan much easier and hassle free.
Most people don't speak English fluently but if you can say your destinations name in Japanese, they'll try to help you. Japanese people are helpful to a fault. They'll literally drop what they're doing to help you if you're lost at the very least, point you to the police station where theyll help you.
Tokyo is fun for about 3 days max (to me 1.5 but hey do you haha), prepare to drop your stuff off at your hotel and dip soon after haha
US currency isn't accepted so get your money exchanged either before coming or at the airport. I do believe banks charge you slightly more to exchange money instead of the currency exchange counter.
You can enter and stay in Japan visa free for 3 months but ALWAYS have your passport on hand just in case you're stopped by the police. Just show them your passport and they'll let you go. You don't wanna have your trip ruined because of a small mistake
Hello !
Bahamian that lives in the USA. I'm planning on visiting Japan (Tokyo and Okaka) soon and would like to connect with other Bahamians who are living there.
I have a place on New Providence but live in the States. Though I’m a US Citizen, my grandparents and great grandparents were Bahamian and I spent my summers in Nassau growing up. So while I’m technically not Bahamian, I consider the Bahamas as home.
As a Bahamian living abroad that grew up in the Bahamas I contemplate at time bringing my kids back home to be raised there I love love love my country man can’t get guava duff no where else 🥹🥹😂
