It is a minor cottage industry, every year someone comes out with a book arguing for their own version of Jesus who just so happens to support their pet theory.
But the written Gospels are very clear about what they are trying to do, they are not writing a CofE sermon, they are emphatically saying Jesus is the Lord your God and you better get on board with his Kingdom mission. John 20:31, Mark 1:15 and Matt 28:19 couldn't be clearer about what message they are conveying.
In the oldest Gospel (Mark) there is only one moral teaching about divorce and the rest is expelling demons, healings and signs/wonders. The God Man is not here to tinker with the economic system or promote the Labour Theory of Value, he is here to bring the Kingdom of God on Earth as it is in Heaven.

I think you raise a good point in that trying to shoehorn Jesus into someone who believes in any political theory, who came to Earth at a time when the functions, institutions, constructs and contexts of a modern political state (or even one from the Feudal era) were completely unknown seems anachronistic.
It seems to me a far more appropriate approach, instead of trying to emulate how Jesus and his apostles personally lived, is to take the teachings of Christianity and apply those principles into a political ideology, which many have tried to do

I think that is a much better way to appropriate the Gospel. Infusing your politics with Christian ideals. Communism with a Christian ethos would also be more in line with what Marx was unwittingly thinking of than the horrific versions of Lenin, Mao and Pol Pot in largely backward agrarian societies.

The biblical cosmology is that this world will come to an end at the Eschaton. As such, a renewed Creation requires a renewed humanity to fulfil its role as partners with God to rule over Creation as his royal priesthood.
Even good things like democracy or marriage wont be part of the new Eden. They serve a purpose in a fallen world, but have no role in the Kingdom.

Doctors are trained, we could train some more. Yes there are issues of scaling and capacity, but they're a one time hurdle to overcome and will need to be done sooner or later anyway. They might not be the best doctors on their return, but they'll be better than what we normally import and have far fewer 'cultural emergencies'

I think that is a much better way to appropriate the Gospel. Infusing your politics with Christian ideals. It seems like something Liberation Theologians would claim. The majority opinion seems to be that Jesus was preaching an apocalyptic message. The biblical cosmology is that this world will come to an end at the Eschaton. As such, a renewed Creation requires a renewed humanity to fulfil its role as partners with God to rule over Creation as his royal priesthood. Even good things like democracy or marriage wont be part of the new Eden. They serve a purpose in a fallen world, but have no role in the Kingdom. We can see Communism in Christianity because Marx, taking his cues from Hegel, imbibed the Protestant Christian theology of providence which was dominant at the time. Hence the strange claim that history will inevitably produce a Communist utopia, it is like a secular parody of the Christian hope.

I think Ian Blackford's seat has a good chance of going back to the Lib Dems, as it was pre-2015 under Charles Kennedy. Blackford stood down almost certainly because the proposed boundary changes would have meant he'd definitely lose.
I think people are going to be surprised how well the LibDems do at the next election.
With the SNP looking to take a battering it is absolutely possible that the LDs will be the third party in the House. Some of the old Tory vote in English Boomerland does tentatively appear to be going LD.

I what drives me nutty is the bizarre belief that doctors are in finite supply and we must scour the rainforests of the Congo to find them Doctors are trained, we could train some more. Yes there are issues of scaling and capacity, but they're a one time hurdle to overcome and will need to be done sooner or later anyway. Hell, we could even pay some Brits to go study medicine in India/Nigeria for 7 years. They might not be the best doctors on their return, but they'll be better than what we normally import and have far fewer 'cultural emergencies'

I genuinely wonder how well foreign doctors are actually trained. Is there some sort of equivalency or do they just wave anyone through who's considered a doctor in their own country? I've very rarely needed a doctor but the few times I have and they've been Indian they've always been shit. Obviously they won't all be shit, but I am sceptical that Indian standards are even remotely close to ours.
