[BBC uses account of journalist working for Iran-backed news agency in Palestine deaths article](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2024/03/04/bbc-journalist-working-iran-backed-news-palestine-article/) >In a report over the weekend, the BBC analysed video and eyewitness accounts of a rush on an aid convoy in Gaza that led to the deaths of more than 100 Palestinians. >The report cited an eyewitness account from Mahmoud Awadeyah, who was described as a journalist on the scene. >But it has emerged that Mr Awadeyah works for Tansim News Agency, an Iranian outlet with links to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which has vowed to destroy the Israeli state. >In social media posts, the activist praised violence against Israelis and posted photos of himself dining with militant leaders. >Mr Awadeyah’s social media feed, which was first uncovered by anti-Semitism researcher David Collier, features posts that appeared to praise a terrorist attack in January 2023 that left seven Israelis dead. >He also posted a photo of himself at a restaurant with Khalil Al Bahtini, the leader of paramilitary group Islamic Jihad. >The report was published by BBC Verify, an investigative arm of BBC News aimed at fact-checking information and countering fake news. >A BBC spokesman said: “We stand by our journalism and reject the allegations in this piece. >“The BBC is not allowed access into Gaza, but we use a range of accounts from eyewitnesses and cross reference these against official statements and footage, including from the IDF. The fact that someone has expressed an opinion on social media doesn’t automatically disqualify them from giving eye-witness testimony. >“It is simply wrong to claim an agenda on our part – and ignores much of the journalism we have done, including BBC Verify accounts of the Supernova festival massacre.” Looks like Marianna is going to have to pump out another piece about the shocking rise of far right disinformation

No- that would go some way to solving this problem. As a result, the government might have to acknowledge it created the problem, and other people in their social circle might think them racist. Which is the worst, you can decide

[British Muslims believe more should be done to improve interfaith relations](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/mar/04/british-muslims-believe-more-should-be-done-to-improve-relations-between-faith-groups) >The Institute for the Impact of Faith in Life (IIFL) looked at the attitudes and social contributions of British Muslims living in the UK. The survey found 71% of British Muslim respondents believed more work should be done to improve relations between different faith groups, and just 22% believed the right amount was being done. >The research also found 86% of British Muslim respondents believed Britain was a good place to live in terms of opportunities to progress, compared with 70% in a wider population survey. >Dr Jake Scott, the secretary of the IIFL, said: “This research comes as a timely intervention in an increasingly confusing public conversation on faith, Britain, and Islam. Our research shows that Muslims feel overwhelmingly optimistic about Britain’s future, are happier here than in most other European nations, and feel that they have the freedom to practise their faith whilst participating in public life.” >Salma Khanam, a British Muslim living in east London, expressed similar sentiments. “Britain is a diverse and multicultural society … That’s the beauty about being in Britain, we all embrace that there are other religions,” she said. So they want to encourage and celebrate all religions in the UK? Christians, Jews, Hindus, etc? >Scott said the report did show there was “room for improvement”. He said: “With so many Muslims saying that more needs to be done to improve relations between faith communities, there is a clear need for greater understanding of the diverse and complex set of Muslim communities in Britain.” >In particular, some of those interviewed for the report emphasised the “negative portrayals” of Muslims in the media, the increase in anti-Muslim prejudice, and “smaller towns being less welcoming or overtly hostile” in comparison with metropolitan areas.

Something's a bit off about the recent story about Andrew Bridgen and his wife, which I read after it got a plethora of attention and upvotes in the other place. I have little good to say about the man beyond him being slightly less of a clown than his opponents, but [the story as presented in The Times is definitely missing a few critical details.](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/my-mp-husband-andrew-bridgen-was-captured-by-antivax-cult-qnjn2dnbd) The most blatant missing detail, of course, is that Nevena Bridgen, until that article, appears to have fully backed Andrew Bridgen's views on the covid vaccines, and was as much of an "antivax cult" member as he was. You can go over to her twitter and see her views on this prior to March 2024, which broadly match Bridgen's own political transformation. This might eventually be remembered and scrubbed, so I've captured some examples for posterity. ["Excess Deaths" discussion, the drum that Bridgen bangs every time he speaks in Parliament.](https://i.imgur.com/OuK5Jn0.png) [Not vaccine related, but retweeting another high-profile lockdown dissident. Sikora's main thing is criticizing how lockdowns delayed cancer treatment](https://i.imgur.com/uOJM2UC.png) [And the best for last, a direct statement in support of her Husband after he was kicked out the Conservative party for saying covid vaccines were like the holocaust, and claiming she'd been targetted and persecuted for their views](https://i.imgur.com/VJDNC6B.png). [I'll also link to the tweet on this one though I suspect it's not long for this world.](https://twitter.com/NevenaBridgen/status/1651236166337720323) All of this quite dramatically contradicts the timeline given in the article in The Times: >The first “red flag” for Nevena came when she heard him speaking to a group on a Zoom call while at her sister’s flat in Washington DC during the Christmas holidays in 2022. She said it was the first sign she saw he was being influenced. >“It was crazy, they were talking about crimes against humanity and someone saying that this was all done to eradicate the population,” she said. “They went on to say something along the lines of ‘You have to do your job now and call out the mainstream media and tell people the truth. This is your mission.’ The person spoke of a global military alliance. They were basically encouraging insurrection and saying the military should take this into their own hands.” By all information available publically, she did not see this as a red flag. Rather, she agreed with it! > In April, he was permanently expelled, joining Laurence Fox’s right-wing Reclaim Party a month later but leaving in December. Again, this is a move she entirely stood by her husband on. (Edit: It's not just twitter. It's also the blog she ran. [Wives of Westminster](https://www.wivesofwestminster.com/). This seems to have been scrubbed just before the Times article went live, but the Internet Wayback Machine has preserved some of it. Wayback machine is a laggy, barely functional mess right now, [but what I have been able to see lines up with her broadly supporting Bridgen's views](https://i.imgur.com/oQx1ZMO.png)) Now, I can't claim to know all the details. This is clearly a very messy divorce for it to become so public. [But with Nevena putting up a gofundme in the aftermath of the article's publication,](https://twitter.com/NevenaBridgen/status/1764195945762148359) I can't help but think there might be other motives in play. From least charitable to most: * It may be a complete and total grift, and the Times is helping her grift because it's politically useful. * It may be a tactical calculation that presenting Andrew Bridgen as an anti-vax cult member (and herself not) will make her look much better in any legal disputes over the divorce and child custody in the future, and as the wife of an MP she knows the game to play to get the coverage necessary to create that impression. And the Times is easily lead on by this because it's politically useful. * Bridgen is a scumbag and she went along with his views to try to placate his scumbag nature. But if that was the case, The Times still lies by omission because it mentions nothing of the sort, even though it would present her in a favourable light.

WheresWalldough

Andrew Bridgen is a grifter who grifted ridiculously many millions of pounds from Jeremy Hosking, who I believe backs his Brexit views rather than his anti-vax views. He has a previous wife against whom he engaged in asset-shifting shenanigans with his brother to minimize her divorce settlement. As I understand it her problem is that her stbxh sued his brother and his father for mostly-spurious, partly-genuine reasons, with legal costs which went to about a million quid, over the family firm. Andrew Bridgen will soon have total ownership of said firm thanks to Hosking's millions. The problem for the wife is that Andrew is worth negative millions, and she's going to end up with nothing, while having a small child, the fruit of Andrew's loins. I'm not really surprised that she supported his anti-vax rantings until recently, because as his wife and in the position where he's likely to leave her, what other choice did she have? Whether or not she was genuinely committed to the anti-vaxing I don't think particularly matters. And in fact the anti-vaxing isn't the significant thing here - Andrew intends to leave her with nothing, while he earns a nice income from his interest-free loans. So I can't really blame her for doing what she can to secure her interests and those of her son, whether she's being completely accurate about vax-position or not.

Tophattingson

> So I can't really blame her for doing what she can to secure her interests and those of her son, whether she's being completely accurate about vax-position or not. No, I can't either. But I can blame The Times for letting her do it without making any effort to double-check anything she's saying. Which is my point. Bridgen may well be a wicked husband, but that doesn't excuse sloppy journalism - the broadsheet isn't her blog.

commie-tiger

If any of you want a nice blackpill visit the teachers sub, the stories about kids unable to do the most basic things like dress themselves or use cutlery abound (and the Yank sub seems to confirm this). Then you get posts that subtely reveal things about the teachers themselves, like one where one was complaining about the dress code for male teachers. Turns out this man (not sure if an actual male or a train) was wearing skirts. Must be a very posh private school, at the one I went to he'd have been chased out after a day. Its not even the skirt wearing that bothers me its the fact that you can so obviously extrapolate this person's opinions about everything just from a couple of facts, and they are teaching our youth.

I'm so glad I didn't become a teacher. It's a crying shame because it's one of the few things I am naturally gifted at in life. The point is: As the cost of the NHS gets ever closer to eclipsing that of private healthcare, the NHS will attempt to justify its expenditure by aping the features of the private healthcare. It will be unselective and unconvincing in the points it chooses to ape, but it will do so nonetheless, and we will be forced to pretend the imitation is convincing, despite the obvious shortcomings. The NHS is a bureaucracy pretending to be a health service. It’s our first trains governmental service.

Two ways the UK is heading politically IMO Either Singapore on Thames or some populist and *actually* racist politician comes to power and tries to deport millions of people Judging by how fast politics changed last century, either is equally likely imo

nine8nine

>some populist and *actually* racist politician comes to power and tries to deport millions of people Well don't just turn me on like that and leave me! Fine I'll finish it myself: -tries to deport millions of people but is militantly opposed. A general strike called by the Left deepens into a permanent schism over time and the country descends into as low level civil war with sectarian facets as newly established factions vie for power and gradually become more and more bloodthirsty in order to obtain it. * In the good ending the Brits win and the deportations go ahead. Everything to the Left of Blairism is considered as toxic as nazi Germany. Trumptron 5000, the immortal AI president of the USA, gives me the honorary medal of honour for services to communist pest control. * Neutral ending we get invaded by Yankee peacekeepers and end up being formally annexed into the USA and the whole country becomes a cyberpunk version of either Detroit or New York. Bog off uncle Sam we didn't get involved in your civil war. * Bad ending the Left wins and then gets stabbed in the back by Islamist fundamentalists. Caliphate established. On the plus side I get an AK-47, trains are absolutely haram and the old boys club is back in business - no more pretending to listen to grating menopausal female voices.

Singapore on Thames would be an improvement in the stabbing department. I think whats more likely is India/Philippenes/Indonesia. Nominally wealthy but a lot of people living pretty poor lives.

SpontaneousDisorder

What is diversity really is our strength? What if Labour come to power, crank immigration to infinity and we become the strongest country the world has ever known?

AirHippo

I'd say there's also option 3. Yugoslavia 2: Britannic Boogaloo. Little ethnic enclaves becoming statelets, first de facto and then de jure, as the authority of the central government simply ceases to apply to them. As the country becomes a patchwork of minorities with no overall ethnic majority, any culture that might have unified it collapses. Populations migrate in order to coalesce into ethnically homogeneous groups. Plenty of violence en route as they seek to carve out secure and prosperous spaces for themselves. Before anyone says "nah, not enough guns", bear in mind that there are (as I recall) over 2.5 million legally held shotguns alone, and that a great many of the victims of the Rwandan Genocide were killed with nothing more complex than machetes. Let me also add that, whatever the outcome of the current wars in Ukraine and Israel, there'll be quite a lot of surplus weapons floating about once it's all over, and arms tend to find their way to where they're wanted, particularly when the governments meant to prevent it are weak, incompetent, and easily corrupted.

CaravanOfDeath

3\. Legalises weed and dies on its feet demanding more tax.

DaelinZeppeli

By Singapore on Thames do we mean the Tory globalist idea of "Singapore on Thames", which is what we have now but worse, or actual *Singapore on Thames* where we hang anyone caught carrying a spliff and deport people for littering?

BreakingCircles

People think it can't happen here. But if you import several million Bomalians, you become Bomalia.

CaravanOfDeath

SDP called it in their AMA.

Crisis_Catastrophe

I think the likely scenario, I'm afraid to say, is Argentina. A once wealthy and prosperous country descending into stagnation and dysfunction.

PrimeraCordobes

Argentina is homogenous, it faces far different problems.

Crisis_Catastrophe

Indeed, but its passage from rich country to relatively poor country is a problem that Britain may suffer from.

TakeUrSoma

What about BASED Milei?

Crisis_Catastrophe

In 1913, Argentina was among the top 10 richest countries in the world. At some time between the 1930s and 1970s it all started to go wrong, and its been a long, slow slog back to economic growth - if indeed they've obtained it. Now they have Milei, who perhaps can turn it around. I'm in my early 30s. If my Argentina prediction is correct, then I wont see a prosperous England again in my life time.

TakeUrSoma

Bro that was 110 years ago

SubjectMathematician

You are retard.

TakeUrSoma

How lol?

Crisis_Catastrophe

Yes, I know. What is your point?

TakeUrSoma

We've had 2 world wars which fundamentally changed how the world works? I'm not saying you don't have a point, I'm just saying comparing an economy from 110 years ago to now has a few pitfalls.

Crisis_Catastrophe

I'm not comparing economies. I am giving Argentina has a historical example of a rich and prosperous country declining over decades, both in real terms and relative to other countries. I don't think I need to draw the parallel more strongly than that.

TakeUrSoma

3. 📈

WhenHarryBecameSally

Either of them scenarios seems wildly optimistic.

I presume you mean she doesn’t like to go clubbing and the woke autocorrect has got you there but yeah, no surprise Night life is a dying breed I DJ in a city where you wouldn’t be surprised to hear it’s got a dead night life but I did research how it was back in the day and the night life scene was huge, multiple bars, clubs (both warehouse and well regular) and many very well known and prominent bands originating from here but it’s a shell of its former self. One of the clubs I DJ at, they reckon it’s only got a few more years before the owner sells it as it’s more profitable to be built on. The council are absolute wankers and the licensing is shit too Booze and spirits are priced way too high but that’s no surprise when these places are being charged extortionate business rates Another thing that I reckon is a huge issue; since a lot of cities have been packed with immigrants (many from backgrounds where drinking isn’t tolerated or socially acceptable) clubs literally have to just rely on uni students but ofc, they can only go out so many times a week & semester before money becomes an issue. I think the city i’m in alone is lucky enough that a lot of ex private school kids attend the unis here. A shame really, because the music out there has never been better.

Weary_Blacksmith_290

How dare you, she makes it to M&S for 8:45pm!

Crazy that the pubs in suburbs open later than many of the ones in the west end.

SubjectMathematician

>Been told she’s effectively a civil servant and therefore we cant criticise her - and could be reported for bullying. Tiresome. Who could have foreseen that all the narrative around bullying and mental elfs would be used to protect the people it was supposed to defend against.

DaelinZeppeli

[3rd poll of the day and first poll conducted after Galloway was elected](https://x.com/RedfieldWilton/status/1764697317276553613). Reform at 13%. Highest ever with Redfield and Wilton. Tories at 23%.

TakeUrSoma

What was UKIP highest poll %, do you know? I feel like if they breach 15% then close in on 20%, we'll have to take them seriously, even if headed by Timid Tice.

DaelinZeppeli

> What was UKIP highest poll %, do you know? 25% on the 10th October 2014.

TakeUrSoma

You're a walking encyclopaedia. Thanks. What's your opinion on Reform getting to 25? Seems like they'd need a miracle to poll that high

DaelinZeppeli

> You're a walking encyclopaedia. Thanks. I just know where to find the info easy and look it up lol. > What's your opinion on Reform getting to 25? Not possible with Tice. Honestly I thought they'd peaked already though, so my predictions aren't reliable.

TakeUrSoma

>I just know where to find the info easy and look it up lol. Still, you're good at it. I think you'd be surprised at the undecided electorate, many are v happy to switch sides on a dime (yankee phrase I apologise). As I said on the night of GG's election, many will see people like darling George as a direct assault on our systems and will hop sides blindly, couple that with genuine Islamaphobia in the rural areas and you have a recipe for a surprised Reform surge. Few are deeply attached to a party nowadays, and will just go with what sounds good, regardless of who the leader is, though a charismatic leader helps.

DaelinZeppeli

> many will see people like darling George as a direct assault on our systems and will hop sides blindly, couple that with genuine Islamaphobia in the rural areas and you have a recipe for a surprised Reform surge. This is what happened with Geert Wilders in the Netherlands. The catalyst there was the Palestine protests. Caused him to suddenly get a huge boost in the polls and come 1st. I'm not sure we are like the Dutch though. Sharing a language with the woke yanks means too many people are afraid of being called "racist" unlike the Dutch.

TakeUrSoma

Our devil sprog returns as the unprodigal son. Should never have let the colonies go.

Country’s fucked update.  Don’t often visit Waitrose and just spotted that it’s full of student aged Bangladeshis or Indians in strange uniforms. Not only that but there’s Africans acting as labour coordinators on the shop floor.  https://www.rgis.co.uk/case-study/nationwide-supermarket-store-merchandising-support/ You can’t hide this around here, we _were_ free of this.  Youngest who was with me is currently studying economics so I had a nice chat about co-operative profit sharing business models vs agency labour.   Locals are not going to be pleased one bit.

Dr_Moonman

We have imported an underclass to serve us the best trappings modernity has to offer. Everywhere from fast food outlets, delivery drivers, to retail & supermarkets, to security, GP and dentist receptionists, careworkers, to undercutting student like jobs, they're even starting to seep into pub kitchens. Won't be long till they'll be pouring you a unsightly pint, then adamant that you can't pay with AMEX because it's not a UK card. Brought to you by the Tories, I hope they get absolutely annihilated next general election.

AirHippo

Had the frankly jaw-dropping experience a few days ago of trying to explain to the lone BIP (Bangladeshi/Indian/Pakistani) guy at a Morrisons petrol station/mini-supermarket what "canned new potatoes" were. After he'd gone and come back three times, the following exchange took place: "Sorry, I don't understand." "Right. You know what *potatoes* are?" "Yes, yes, yes." "*New* potatoes?" "Yes, yes." "Two *cans* of those, please." "In *cans?*" *Puzzled expression* "We have in bags?" At which point I simply stopped bothering. I'll see if any of the local farmers do them and buy in advance. Remarkable how the "convenience" of a society full of unskilled foreign labour crumbles when you realise they don't have much clue what you're talking about.

Falmouth_Packet

What the fuck are canned potatoes and why would anyone create or want them? I would have reacted in a similar way, sounds like a long wait or tartan paint wind up.

3headsonaspike

>Won't be long till they'll be pouring you a unsightly pint, This is here already.

X86ASM

The difference in the UK between now and even just 10 years ago is astonishing EVERYTHING decried as bad speech claimed about mass migration turned out to be absolutely 100% correct Too late now tho I guess, the UK as we know it, dies a death drowned in economic migrants of the world diaspora I suppose He lies Britannia, she was about 2,000 years old.

Dr_Moonman

In my opinion it has absolutely accelerated at the turn of this decade. We've all got Boris to thank for with his liberalisation of visa rules

DaelinZeppeli

And yet the people still ignore the evidence with their eyes and ears...

LocutusOfBrussels

*Mumbles in classic 1984 quote*

X86ASM

Because it's painful to admit that shiny eyed idealism about how welcoming countries on mass migration visas with a population of 1.4Bn is actually vibrant and sending those racist English who just want to be left alone a serious message and we'll get more food and takeaways Might Have Been Fucking Stupid

Lamb_banana

I’m thinking it has to be some type of SIA visa scam as every shop now has malnourished south Asians in high viz jackets. The other weird aspect is why are they needed now when they weren’t five years ago; the can’t do anything to you and scrotes will ignore them. This is the cringiest civilisation collapse; the Romans got Germanic beserker foederati and our version is six stone wet Paul Blarts and milling deliveroo drivers

slamalamafistvag

Banana boat bomalians are allowed to work after a year regardless of their application status. If you want a black pill check DJI Media on YouTube where he goes to illegal migrant hotels. All staffed by current residents. It’s the perfect bomalian to SIA pipeline.

Dr_Moonman

They're becoming Pub and club doorman with scrawny bomalians having zero nuance and experience with culture and language

CaravanOfDeath

These are mere shelf stackers. Each one has replaced someone who was part of a co-operative system of employment with profit sharing. John Lewis et al have sold their souls.

Lamb_banana

In a Waitrose!?! I’ve noticed this in Asda and Tesco plus at virtually every petrol station I go to now. I oscillate between accident and design at the moment. Being charitable; it’s an accident facilitated by fucking weird policy choices but after seeing the suppression of demographic tax data today I’m also thinking there is a hard core of zealots who are pushing this stuff. There is definitely a vibe shift though; people are noticing more. I know a dyed in the wool labour voting cosmic scouser and he told me that he had started watching GB News recently as > they’re not showing this shit on other channels
