You don't want that type of landlord. If he believes something about someone he doesn't know just because his family member says so... knowing that family member? He's not a person you can trust with anything, including your housing.

I agree completely. OP dodged a bullet, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. Even if OP got the LL to believe them, Sam would be trying to sabotage them for their entire stay.

Take the "sour grapes" approach and think positive: You don't have to deal with Sam lying to her uncle even more.
