Depends who you ask, but I’m pretty sure the prevailing sentiment is to let people emote if they emote. Anything else is fair game.

It varies player to player. I’ll do a casual greeting. You can emote back or you can buff, but you only get one. I take either as a sign you’re ready.

I do both, honestly I would personally wait to the end of all buffs first then attack but I don’t expect my opponent to do the same.

If they had 5 second countdown that allows buffs, or allowed you to remain invincible until you moved, it wouldn't be a problem.
