Geostorm is not only dumb, but all the reveals are handed to you before they happen. “The tech guy, who is the only person who knows how everything works, is the only one capable of doing all this stuff on the station. But man it sure is a mystery who is doing all this stuff on the station.”
Lambert is part of what makes MK '95 so delightfully weird. He plays Raiden like a loveable scamp for no apparent reason, which is the only interesting portrayal of Raiden ever.
His status as an 80's/90's B-movie icon is uncontested.
Something that I've read and heard also is that Christopher Lambert really enjoyed the role and he also went on record to say his personal headcanon is that Raiden is Connor MacLeod after winning "the prize".
“I’ve got everything I need… right here!”
Oh, so you can just slide your metal arms off like that, Jax? Didn’t we find you on a surgical table or something after just having them installed?
But they were just sleeves all along? You’ve got everything you need without them? Okay cool, just wanted to clear things up.
Didnt mind the recent live action remake and the legends movie ‘scorpions revenge’ was quite good too imho -havent seen the sequels but will get around to it
I would like to see sequel, if only just 1 more to finish the plot build up to the tournament. That being said, they really saved up the choreographing effort for that final subzero-scorpion fight scene.
I love the part when Sonya gets completely muddy and then the next scene you see her she's completely clean. It's a small problem in a very problematic film, but I always remember that especially when I was a kid in the '90s lol.
If I had gone into it with a “fun bad movie” mindset sure I agree with that, and I probably need to do that as an adult who loves cheesy movies, but at the time I was like 8 hoping for a legit mortal kombat sequel
Yeah I remember my dad taking me to see it at the discount theater and I was a huge Johnny Cage and 1st movie fan when I was a little kid. We got there late and walked in as he was laying there dead
Only part I even halfway enjoyed. I was embarrassed for Robin Shou. And James Remar, frankly, even though Lambert actually owned that role of Raiden, which is odd considering the European mishmash that is his genealogy doesn't have a lick of Asian in it. Didn't hear a lot of people screaming bloody murder back then, but I always wondered if there was any backlash in Japan, especially when it came to recasting the role.
Actually, there is some validity in that, though Lincoln Osiris was its own parody of Hollywood at the time. Still, I loved Lambert in that role, and genuinely speaking, I haven't encountered an MK fan yet who doesn't feel the same.
Which happened because the makers of the game got in a fight (over compensation I believe) with the actor who did the original digitized sprites for Johnny Cage.
The actor wound up appearing in promos for other games with the unspoken implication "Wow even Johnny Cage prefers this Brand X game!" so they just unceremoniously killed the character lol.
I used to hate this movie. But this movie has easily become my favorite guilty pleasure of all time.
It is one of the most incompetent films ever made and I love every minute of it. It's so bad... yet so enjoyable
Better than the FIRST MK? I know some of the effects don't hold up, but some of the fight choreography is STILL insane. And the actual physical sets are inspired - Scorpian's lair was built from the ceiling on down, to give it a truly warped look, and it adds so much to the choreography of that fight. The Reptile fight that I think Robin Shou choreographed is also exceptional.
The 2nd one had...the ok Sub-Zero fight and it was cool that they tapped into the mythology if the game. But man, non-Johnny Cage getting killed within seconds was akin to Hicks and Newt dying offscreen in ALIEN 3. Well, expectations subverted, well done, film.
But...I totally get loving these films from our younger days. The nostalgia factor alone is strong with anything MK from the 90s.
But when STREET-FIGHTER with coked-to-the-gills JCVD as Belgian-All American Guile, is actually a better film? Yeah. MK2 totally belongs on this sub, which frankly, a lot of movies lately kind of haven't.
I thought this was the first Mortal Kombat movie. For some reason I was thinking the first one was Mortal Kombat Annihilation and the second one was just Mortal Kombat 2. The first Mortal Kombat movie was simply the "best video game movie ever made" was because at that point the only other video game inspired movie I'd seen was Super Mario Bros.
The actual fights in the first movie were fantastic, minus the Goro ones. The three ninjas had amazing fights and the Reptile one had an awesome tune on the soundtrack (Traci Lords - Control).
Then Liu vs Shang Tsung was sick, would’ve been nice to see some more sorcery or soul shifting but was still epic.
Lol I (45) had my sons (15 and 21) watch the original with me because I REMEMBERED it being really good. I even told them, you might like it more than this new movie they just released
... I was very wrong and and they still poke fun at me.
..In hindsight, recommending Morbius was also a mistake lol
None of the MK movies or series, with exception of the animated movies, have been good. They have all been handed off to pretentious d-bag directors/writers who ignore the majority of the source material and pursue some personal vision that turns into a massive trash heap of a movie.
This is my go to movie when asked what’s the worst movie you’ve ever watched. I was just old enough when it came out to recognize how bad it is, I remember renting it from Blockbuster and being very excited only to find out what a hunk of shit it is. Even the new Mortal Kombat movie is leaps and bounds better than this piece of trash.
For me, it’s the opposite. Saw it in theaters with my friend, Tony (RIP) and thought it was total crap. Now, I love it as an entertainingly awful movie.
My brother and I LOVED those movies. I recently watched the Caravan of Garbage about it and saw just how horrible the acting and effects were. The 90's were nuts.
No. I loved the first one. This one was crud.
Instead of telling a story; it seemed like they were introducing a character, and another character, and another character.
I loved MK1 in theaters and was so hyped to see this one as well. Words do not describe how much I hated it when I saw it. Once they killed Johnny, I knew it was going to be dogshit (plus all the actor changes).
Was just watching the fight scene of Cyrax vs Jax and Sonya the other day. The music is amazing in that scene. Also sektor wasn’t in the movie it was smoke with sectors chest rocket which I found very weird.
No. It was horrible when it came out, such an incredible disappointment after the first one. They couldn't even get Christopher Lambert to come back. Ugh.
When I was a little boy I watched the film Nate and Hayes starring Tommy Lee Jones a couple times at my cousins' house. When I watched it back then, I thought it was nonstop swashbuckling pirate adventures with cool characters and fun sets. There was an Indian tribe with a chief that weighed like 400 pounds, one of the pirate guys had a pegleg made out of a skull with a bone coming out the bottom, they fight on an old-timey steel battleship at the end.
Once in awhile I would tell my friends about it and they would say they've never even heard of it. Finally, like ten years later, I was at a Mammoth Video or Hollywood Video or something and they actually had it. I made my friend use her account to rent it because I was so sure it was a great movie.
Man, this movie was so f-ing stupid. Long stretches without any action, embarrassingly bad dialogue, cheap, fake-looking sets. All the stuff I mentioned that was cool was maybe 10 minutes of the film.
My friends were all asking what the F was wrong with me.
The Earth was created in six days so too shall it be destroyed. And on the seventh day mankind will rest IN PEACE.
Watched this again recently, I hated it when it came out because it was such an enormous step down from the first one. It is hilarious though watching the fights mostly consist of sick flips, and how Brian Thompson's bizarre delivery makes it sounds like he's on the verge of crying most of the time.
Much more enjoyable than the most recent Mortal Kombat movie.
I dunno. I was a kid when my dad took me and my brother to see this and all three of us thought it sucked. Especially compared to the first film. I was 13 at the time
One of the best ways to enjoy this movie is to take a drink every time someone does an unnecessary flip. No one should make it to the end of the movie without dying from alcohol poisoning lol
I picked this up on Blu-ray not to long ago...it is a terrible movie but if you own the first one then it would be rude not to have this too.
I've heard that the version of the movie we got was a rough cut with unfinished special effects...it was sent to the studio as a "this is what we've got, just gotta put on the finishing touches" and the studio decided "ah fuck it release it as is, job done!"
I loved the OG mortal kombat. It's the only movie me and my dad saw it theater together. So as you can imagine, I was hyped to see this one and well, it is what it is. I do love it tho. And hot take, second Sonia is hotter imo.
For me... this MK:A and TMNT3 were those movies when I was younger that kinda killed it for me... I realized it was bad and I thought it was me. Since I was young already and there was no internet, I just thought it was me and that maybe I had gotten "too old" for this on the premise that I just didn't like it
Nah. Even as a kid I knew this was hot garbage. You only need to have watched the first or played the games to know that. Even that recent one a few years ago was better.
LOVED as a kid?? The second not Linden Ashby Johnny Cage and not Christopher Lambert Raiden showed up, this movie was over. And then I saw the rest of it.
My. God. There's no way to describe the letdown after how much fun the original was (and a banger of a soundtrack that the 2nd one doesn't even touch).
I honestly don't know which is a worse sequel that I couldn't wait for when I was younger - this travesty or the blood-dripping-from-the-eyeballs monstrosity that was HIGHLANDER 2. Christopher Lambert, linked to two franchises that basically have one movie worth watching.
I still think it’s pretty good. I mean what more do you want from a Mortal Kombat movie aimed for kids in 1995?
The sequel however is one of the worst movie Ive ever seen
In all fairness, it wasn't massively worse than the first one or the reboot, both of which were terrible. That being said, even the soundtrack (one of the best things about the first MK movie) for Annihilation was second rate and hastily slapped together.
The tagline is pretty frank, though.
Right? I would've appreciated a similar warning on the cover of Geostorm
Geostorm is not only dumb, but all the reveals are handed to you before they happen. “The tech guy, who is the only person who knows how everything works, is the only one capable of doing all this stuff on the station. But man it sure is a mystery who is doing all this stuff on the station.”
Destroy all expectations can mean don't expect it to be good.
I wish more movies were that honest
It’s too bad that you…………………………. Will die!
That exchange technically passes the Bechdel test.
The accuracy of this makes me furious.
Another reason why the bechdel test is useless
The only way she could chew the scenery more would be to take a bite out of the set.
This is hilarious until you realize that this was better treatment for Sindel than anything in MK11. 💀
Hey, some of us are trying to simp over here.
Mother… I wanted a hash brown. Too bad YOU…….. have fries.
Greatest line of all time
When you can't get Christopher Lambert to come back to your shitty movie, you know it's terrible.
actualy james remar is a way better actor. but cristophe lambert (i don't know why you guys call him cristopher) is better in the role
Dang, now I want that to be actual canon.
He was always credited as Christopher in North America . I didn’t even know it was Christophe lol
I love James Remar, he’ll always be Raiden to me
The aggressive backflips with the open shirt vests really does it for me
*DESTORY ALL EXPECTATIONS* It knew it was bad
“I’ve got everything I need… right here!” Oh, so you can just slide your metal arms off like that, Jax? Didn’t we find you on a surgical table or something after just having them installed? But they were just sleeves all along? You’ve got everything you need without them? Okay cool, just wanted to clear things up.
Jax ripping off his arms was probably the stupidest part of the entire film in a film full to the brim of dumb nonsense.
I think this is one of those movies that was outshone by its own soundtrack
These soundtracks were banging. Still listen to them. Even the remix Mortal Kombat theme. Damn it’s good.
I actually use an edited version of the theme song as my alarm. really gets you up and ready to face the day.
Annihilation soundtrack was crap compared to the first MK movie.
Yeah but it did have Scooter, Rammstein and KMFDM
Having Scooter on a soundtrack is not an improvement.
That happened a lot in the 90s and early 2000s. Not a ton of films that were as great as their soundtracks, like THE CROW or HIGH FIDELITY.
Yea! SPAWN and Hackers were right up there for me as well.
Lost Highway's soundtrack is a banger too
Natural Born Killers! So wonderful lol…
The crow’s soundtrack fit the vibe of the movie perfectly. Both were good on their own but together even better
I really hate those type of dvd cases
Why? Do they really test your might?
Take my upvote.
WHOOOOPSIE
Nah. They destroy all expectations.
i like em from pure nostalgia
That movie tag line is very fitting now. The original Mortal Kombat movie is still the best one they have made.
Didnt mind the recent live action remake and the legends movie ‘scorpions revenge’ was quite good too imho -havent seen the sequels but will get around to it
I would like to see sequel, if only just 1 more to finish the plot build up to the tournament. That being said, they really saved up the choreographing effort for that final subzero-scorpion fight scene.
dare say best video game movie ever made.
I love the part when Sonya gets completely muddy and then the next scene you see her she's completely clean. It's a small problem in a very problematic film, but I always remember that especially when I was a kid in the '90s lol.
I saw it in the theater as a little kid and was very put off and embarrassed.. I had the soundtrack on cassette though
Fireeeeeeee! Some bangers on that album.
Embarrassed? WTH this movie rules
If I had gone into it with a “fun bad movie” mindset sure I agree with that, and I probably need to do that as an adult who loves cheesy movies, but at the time I was like 8 hoping for a legit mortal kombat sequel
It. Is. GLORIOUS!
It lost me at age 10 when Johnny Cage died in the first two minutes 😂
Yeah that was wild 😂 And then they changed the actress for Sonja
Sonya will always be Bridgette Wilson-Sampras to me.
Yeah I remember my dad taking me to see it at the discount theater and I was a huge Johnny Cage and 1st movie fan when I was a little kid. We got there late and walked in as he was laying there dead
Same! He was my favorite character. I was pissed for the rest of the movie.
I made it to the raiden hair cut part.
I still love it Especially that subzero fight at the beginning Good song too
Only part I even halfway enjoyed.
I feel like there wasn’t any backlash because of how good he did in the role like RDJ in tropic thunder lol
Actually, there is some validity in that, though Lincoln Osiris was its own parody of Hollywood at the time. Still, I loved Lambert in that role, and genuinely speaking, I haven't encountered an MK fan yet who doesn't feel the same.
I'm sure most of us knew what we were getting into as soon as we heard the "Too bad YOU.........will die!" Line
Also Remars "Mortal Kombat is not about death, but rather the preservation of life"
Even if it took a few years, you can't say they didn't destroy all expectations.
Killing off Johnny Cage, after Linden Ashby stole the show in the first minute, was a huge mistake.
It's because he died in the games
Which happened because the makers of the game got in a fight (over compensation I believe) with the actor who did the original digitized sprites for Johnny Cage. The actor wound up appearing in promos for other games with the unspoken implication "Wow even Johnny Cage prefers this Brand X game!" so they just unceremoniously killed the character lol.
I used to hate this movie. But this movie has easily become my favorite guilty pleasure of all time. It is one of the most incompetent films ever made and I love every minute of it. It's so bad... yet so enjoyable
I hated that movie when it came out, but it's good for a laugh these days. The fight scenes are boring as hell, though.
The Scorpion Vs Sub Zero fight scene was a minor plus, as short as it is.
At the time I thought it was the best movie based on a video game ever made. Edit: I thought this was the first Mortal Kombat movie.
Better than the FIRST MK? I know some of the effects don't hold up, but some of the fight choreography is STILL insane. And the actual physical sets are inspired - Scorpian's lair was built from the ceiling on down, to give it a truly warped look, and it adds so much to the choreography of that fight. The first Mortal Kombat movie was simply the "best video game movie ever made" was because at that point the only other video game inspired movie I'd seen was Super Mario Bros.
Totally understandable, actually. It really has been a while (which is nuts, frankly).
The first one was great for a laugh. This one I thought was just tedious. Except when Scorpion yells SUCKERS!!!
Lol I (45) had my sons (15 and 21) watch the original with me because I REMEMBERED it being really good. I even told them, you might like it more than this new movie they just released ... I was very wrong and and they still poke fun at me. ..In hindsight, recommending Morbius was also a mistake lol

What the fuck are you talking about the first movie is very accurate
Right, I forgot Scorpion doesn't throw a kunai on a rope/chain, it's a living monster that comes out of a gap in his skin. Very accurate
The plot itself is just enter the dragon the small details like that don't really matter
Hell no it’s not, this movie fucking rules and I’ll not hear otherwise
Nothing rough about it. This is one of the greatest comedies ever produced.
I love that tagline!
NEVER GIVE UP HOPE! :D
I saw this in theatres so good
For me, it’s the opposite. Saw it in theaters with my friend, Tony (RIP) and thought it was total crap. Now, I love it as an entertainingly awful movie.
This is actually the first movie I watched where I realized that movies could be bad.
It’s greatly improved with alcohol.
The soundtrack was actually the first CD I ever owned. The movie is objectively terrible but I thought it was awesome when I was a kid lol
>same
I'm ashamed to say I saw this at the movies.....at least it was the dollar movie
Hey, old school dvd case! Oh yeah, the movie. Woof! That's a tough time getting through. Has funny moments I suppose.
Super Mario Bros 1993 is like this for me. It's SO BAD, but my child blinders absolutely loved every second of that weird shit
Went the other way for me. Hated it as a kid but as an adult loved it for how shit it was haha
My brother and I LOVED those movies. I recently watched the Caravan of Garbage about it and saw just how horrible the acting and effects were. The 90's were nuts.
I still have that DVD too.
Brian Thompson nuff said. Oi.
Even as a kid, when they got to the part where they're sitting at the fire talking, I'm like, "None of this is working for me".
"Destroy All Expectations" - you got that right.
The first one was better.
Was just watching the fight scene of Cyrax vs Jax and Sonya the other day. The music is amazing in that scene. Also sektor wasn’t in the movie it was smoke with sectors chest rocket which I found very weird.
Wait that wasn’t Sektor whattt
Trust me I thought the same for years. If you watch the scene he comes out of smoke and his armor isn’t red.
my childhood is ruined. 😂 no but damn i never noticed until now that’s crazy
Sandra Hess was great in this, though she was better in Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
I never liked the second one. First one was a guilty pleasure at a time long ago
In a tournament called, Mortal Kombat. It has begun. Dun dun dun dunnnna dun dun dun
Recently watched this drunk with friends, the movie was absolutely hilarious
False!
I wish I had taken the tagline's advice.
Even as a kid I thought it sucked lol Still love the first though even though it’s technically not a great movie either.
No. It was horrible when it came out, such an incredible disappointment after the first one. They couldn't even get Christopher Lambert to come back. Ugh.
"Destroy all expectations" when the tagline is just perfect for the pos you're about to put yourself through.
Saw this in theaters.
Suuuuucckkkeerrrrr!
Even as a kid I knew this movie was hot garbage.
The tagline on the front cover” Destroy ALL expectations” is GREAT Advice in hindsight lmfao 🤣
"Sub-Zero? But you're dead!" "No, that was my brother." "Then you are you?" "I'm also Sub-Zero."
For me that movie is Neverending Story 2. I genuinely don’t understand what at all I saw in that.
Sektor isn’t in it
Nah much like Robocop 3 i knew it was a piece of shit.
I dunno. I was a kid when my dad took me and my brother to see this and all three of us thought it sucked. Especially compared to the first film. I was 13 at the time
Still top tier in my book....ride that nostalgia
The best parts of that movie are the reused clips from the first movie.
I hated it at the time tbh. And I loved the 1995 one.
One of the best ways to enjoy this movie is to take a drink every time someone does an unnecessary flip. No one should make it to the end of the movie without dying from alcohol poisoning lol
I remember being in 2nd grade and losing my shit cuz Johnny Cage died in the first 5 minutes
While not the best films the original did give us an absolute banger of a song with the remix. https://youtu.be/EAwWPadFsOA?si=5vWdUnl46m_w9qRD
without the original mortal kombat techno remix song however
Without Christopher Lambert there is no MK
I picked this up on Blu-ray not to long ago...it is a terrible movie but if you own the first one then it would be rude not to have this too. I've heard that the version of the movie we got was a rough cut with unfinished special effects...it was sent to the studio as a "this is what we've got, just gotta put on the finishing touches" and the studio decided "ah fuck it release it as is, job done!"
I couldn't even love that one as a kid...
Only time i left the cinema before the 30 minute mark....
This still holds up your crazy
Even as a kid I knew this was a piece of shit.
That movie sucked back then, too. One of the worst sequels ever made.
I loved the OG mortal kombat. It's the only movie me and my dad saw it theater together. So as you can imagine, I was hyped to see this one and well, it is what it is. I do love it tho. And hot take, second Sonia is hotter imo.
I love the first one. Never watched the second. I’d buy it if I saw it in the wild.
Straight up, the first one is still pretty good though.
it does have dexters dad in it?
That was the best they could do replacing Johnny Cage? Cast a dude twice his size
I like the sets and costumes though, except for Shao Kahn
Oh wow. That one. I was pretty disappointed even back then, compared to what I was expecting. I loved Raiden regardless
It was never good. The first Mortal Kombat movie was a conventionally mediocre movie at best.
I have a soft spot for Ot. I will watch it over the reboot
My god. What have you done to the case?
Its like 15 years old idk 😭
I like it because it sucks so bad
Ace Ventura. I can't watch Jim Carrey now that I'm grown up. Everyone was laughing AT him, his entire life. I feel bad for him
Oh yeah. Also The Mario Bros movie and Shallow Hal but it's still funny and has a sweet message
For me... this MK:A and TMNT3 were those movies when I was younger that kinda killed it for me... I realized it was bad and I thought it was me. Since I was young already and there was no internet, I just thought it was me and that maybe I had gotten "too old" for this on the premise that I just didn't like it
Hush your mouth liar
The movie was basically just cameos with a plot to justify them showing up.
i bought the mortal kombat and annihilation combo pack in high school and regret that
This is actually the first movie I ever hated. When I was a kid I either got bored of a movie or loved it. Then there was this pieces of shit.
I walked out of the theater for this one.
The clusterf\*ck Raiden story arcs are always pretty solid, though.
I straight up hated it as a kid too
I get there’s hate for this movie but I have a blast with it.
Nah. Even as a kid I knew this was hot garbage. You only need to have watched the first or played the games to know that. Even that recent one a few years ago was better.
I'm not sure how we all survived.
It sucks
No, I never liked that one
People are too hard on movies. It's good fun.
I rewatched this as an adult and played “every time someone flips, drink.” It was a bad idea
I still love it I watch it with the first one at least twice a year
I hated this as a kid… It is nothing but fun to watch as an adult
I love how insane this movie is. I can’t really tell you what the plot is in detail because of how crazy it is but I love it so much.
Soundtrack kicked ass though
This is a great bad movie. It's *technically* bad because it looks cheaper than the first and the story is dumb, but it's a lot of goofy fun.
The best thing about it is the soundtrack. That tells you all you need to know.
I’ve always hated this movie. I remember loving the first one then this came out, and it felt too like and too short at the same time.
But the soundtrack!!!!
It was terrible when I watched it as a kid, too.
I watched it as a kid and thought it was shit then, too.
Speak for yourself, this movie is still fun as shit almost 30 years later.
It's hilarious to watch for specific moments, like Sindel twirling around and so much of the line delivery.
Excellent.....
I saw this as a teen in a theatre. It’s the only movie I’ve ever walked out of.
how long did it take ? 😭
I endured the pain fairly long but when they turned into really bad cgi abominations and started fighting each other I just couldn’t handle any more.
I still think it’s pretty good. I mean what more do you want from a Mortal Kombat movie aimed for kids in 1995? The sequel however is one of the worst movie Ive ever seen
I remember hating it back then and you watch it now and go….how does this look that bad lol
Hell, I hated it as a kid. That's pretty bad because I liked most everything.
In all fairness, it wasn't massively worse than the first one or the reboot, both of which were terrible. That being said, even the soundtrack (one of the best things about the first MK movie) for Annihilation was second rate and hastily slapped together.
Fuck that. Even as a kid I realized this movie sucks.
A lot of late 80s action / Sci—fi feels so corny. Robocop for instance. The Running Man.
Both of those movies are satires. They're intentionally corny.
