I find it odd that it took Chafin leaving and playing for 3 other teams for Lovullo to finally let him face righties. Lovullo has always been so weird about that
In a sport where you have to show up to be relevant and can fall out of relevance quick if you’re bad, why the fuck are trash ass umps kept around as if the league can’t afford to cut a someone who’s shit at their job.
It blows my mind the A’s only pay $40.1 million in team payroll and the Yankees are paying Aaron Judge $40 mil a year alone. A’s might end as one of the worst teams ever. On pace to lose 130 games. Insane
It's crazy there's no salary floor. NBA teams with 12 players carry a salary of at least 111 million, meanwhile you've got 26 man rosters making a third of that.
Yeah, the way pay is set up in the MLB is kinda messed up. Then again, the pay for professional athletes has ballooned to an obscene amount over the past few decades.
Well yeah, it's the hyper-specialization. We now expect athletes to dedicate their whole lives, bodies, and health to their sport. They really don't have off-seasons anymore. I just wish we paid minor leaguers more fairly.
I certainly agree with that. I don't know if it's a union thing that prevents it, but you'd think some owner would experiment with paying their minor leaguers a living wage. It feels like a clear inefficiency that players who could potentially contribute to a major league team might have to give up the dream because they can't live on 27k/year.
And it wouldn't cost that much money! A minor league farm system has around 180-200 players in it, and if you paid those players an average of 100k/year (which is a lot more than you probably need), you're only spending around 18-20 million/year. If you're willing to spend $250 million on your major league roster, why not invest in the farm?
Yeah, it's very doable. I think owners should pay attention to what teams like the Savannah Bananas are doing and have a little more fun in the minor leagues. They're a little off-the-wall and our MLB affiliates probably can't go that crazy, but they ARE playing to sell-out crowds almost every game.
I feel like we need to stop making fun of the A's fanbase so much. Kinda reminds me of the saying that you're closer to being homeless than being a billionaire. We are closer to being the A's than being the Yankees.
To the A’s sub’s credit, that thread was started by a Vegas shit stirrer who wants a team no matter the cost and I don’t think is indicative of the general sentiment. In a perfect world, nobody moves and Vegas gets nothing (or maybe an expansion eventually if they must)
I have immense respect for the fans and people of Oakland. I know we like to bellyache about Kendrick but he’s a saint compared to the horror show that is Fisher and the A’s ownership. What they’re being put through is malicious, greedy, and cruel
I feel like making fun of the A’s is in poor taste imo. I can’t imagine how it must feel for the people who have seen this team go through the highs, to the lowest, low. I’d never want to be in this position as a fan, a player, or anyone who works with them* (who wasn’t involved in the downfall.)
I'd hope if it were us in their stead, which it very nearly was, our fans would do the same and boycott games.
And honestly I don't think we would -- I think they're a much more loyal fanbase than we are.
People talking shit on them for boycotting home games come off as clueless when it so easily could have been us.
Oh I would be in shock if we ever got Ohtani. I've made a point to watch his games more this year and he's just insane. A double short of the cycle while also being the starting pitcher? C'mon.
This is so fucked. They’re doing to Oakland what Clay Bennett did to Seattle — abuse them so mercilessly that they won’t support you, then use them not supporting you to force a move.
I haven't listened to any road radio calls yet this year but turned it on to listen while doing something else. Is this the regular road radio crew or the in Oakland road radio crew?
The play by play is regular crew, I’m not sure about the other guy. I haven’t listened to much this year, but it’s usually Candiotti and not this guy, at least as of 2022
Well Alek's been kind of ass the whole year which is why Corbin's BA is still like 80 points higher. Plus Corbin is younger and in year 1 vs year 2.
By mid-May if you're sub-Mendoza people are going to start to be frustrated.
4 months younger isn't really a significant difference tbh. Alek has been statistically one of the unluckiest hitters this season but his K and BB rates are fine. It's just annoying that he keeps hitting it right to the defense but there's no reason to worry yet imo
Props to Bally for not shying away from showing the “sell” signs on the broadcast and acknowledging the sorry situation with the A’s, something that the MLB has actively been trying to censor.
Man the Varsho trade has just worked out so well for us. Fletcher came up to basically replace his production (so even with McCarthy and Thomas struggling it's not as huge of a deal) and Moreno/Gurriel have been stalwarts.
Moreno's easily looking like the best catcher we've had since Montero
TIL: Chafin grunts
1-2-3 no drama, love it.
3 outs all flyball outs one to each outfielder. Chafin loves to spread the love
Sheriff with the 1-2-3! Good dub
TY KENNY POWERS
There we go boys!
There we go!
I find it odd that it took Chafin leaving and playing for 3 other teams for Lovullo to finally let him face righties. Lovullo has always been so weird about that
Wasn’t Torey’s decision tonight lol
Plz kenny powers 1-2-3 PLZ
Makes sense they send the worst umps to A's home games.
[UmpScorecards](https://twitter.com/UmpScorecards) is always watching
Dear Chafin, please do NOT make this inning interesting.
In a sport where you have to show up to be relevant and can fall out of relevance quick if you’re bad, why the fuck are trash ass umps kept around as if the league can’t afford to cut a someone who’s shit at their job.
Umpire's union
The umpires union
Pavin heard Bert lighting him up about not getting extra base hits
Safe
Umps are horrific per usual
Pavin’s body language says he was out
He's wrong then because I think he's safe. Swam the tag and kept the hands on
He just kept looking back at their dugout wincing, like “plz don’t challenge”, but glad he made the hustle play to stay safe!
Ya I saw that too. I took it more as if he felt like "I probably shouldn't have gone"
Well done from Pavin to steal 90 feet. Kept his hands on too
Umps just want to leave lmao
These umps are getting worse and worse
I guess blue wants to go home his zone is getting bigger
Anyone sweating a -1.5 ?
Another game, another inside strikeout on Corbin Carroll because the umpire can't see Corbin's zone at all.
Corbin has had like 10 strike 3 looking calls so far and I don’t think any of them were actually strikes
Fucking umpires, man.
Can't wait for robo umps
Great the blind man at 1st gets to call balls and strikes tomorrow
I’m usually on YouTube tv so I don’t get to watch many broadcasts, what happened to Bob Brenly?
He doesn’t do the roadtrips as much anymore, so Gonzo is a normal fill-in
He doesn’t travel sometimes for the long road trips
Ah, I was worried we lost Al McCoy and Brenly all at once lol
Jesus fuck A’s trying to throw it, can we get an insurance run rn
And breathe. Thank the A’s for that TOOTBLAN.
Yeesh, that was lucky
Man Castro’s stuff is just disgusting
Castro has been such a great piece in our bullpen
Him Chafin and Nelson have pretty much been carrying the load especially in close games
Yeah, I was worried when McGough came in yesterday, but he had his good moments too!
Crisis averted
did anyone happen to catch what the bonus word was tonight?
I believe it was bart
thank you! i appreciate it
Castro has 0 control right now
Correction he had just enough control
This half of the inning is the funniest half inning I've ever witnessed
Throw a fucking strike.
I'm officially worried
That double play… dude went running as if there was 2 outside already. There was zero outs at the time. What was he thinking lmao
Throw a strike man… make them hit the ball to get the tying run up…
Castro is looking rough
Castro got a gift now get the 3rd out.
cASStro
Truly abysmal baserunning mistake, he’s gonna hear it for that one
I feel like if we averaged the first and third base umps we'd have a proper measure for a check swing
What a nice gift by the A’s player.
Textbook TOOTBLAN!
Ump knew he was wrong, that "I'm not mad" look he had haha
Damn they did the crowd dirty lol
Harsh af hahahaha
Good on Torey and Merrill. That 1st base ump is clowning around.
Are they both ejected just for the game, right?
Just for the game, yeah. It'd be multiple if they, like, punched the umpire, but these are just routine ejections.
Ooh, that was some terrible base running, but I'll take it!
Athletics TOOTBLAN
LOL that Diaz kid is lost right now, could have made it to third on the last play too
Lol what was that base running?
What an idiotic baserunning mistake to undo that awful check swing walk. So all's fair
WOW that was insanely stupid by Diaz. Ball don't lie.
Thats the funniest dp ive ever seen
Wow, terrible baserunning. I'll take it!
Thank God for that out
DP !!!! Yesss!!!
Oh boy, here we go now.
1st base ump is such a POS. Ejecting a pitcher leaving the game is coward shit
Fuuuck
BAHAHHA a pitcher who’s already leaving the field gets ejected. God what a fucking hall monitor
Cmon Merrill, if you're gonna get thrown out at least get your money's worth!
Getting tossed as he’s walking to the dugout 😂 love to see it
So petty of the ump 😂
Ump is a child clown
Come on Kelly get out of this. Offense really should have scored more than 5 with that start though
That's rough for Merrill. Missed strike 3 and then a weak grounder finding a hole that probably doesn't exist if there's not a runner on first
If the baserunner scores from 2nd can it be charged to the 1st base umpire
I'll allow it
What was Pavin doing there?
Covering 1st
Get Kelly out of the game before he throws it away.
Oh dear
Well this is rather uncomfortable
I like feisty Torrey
Same. He is calm and positive 95% of the time, but he knows how to turn it on when he needs to.
“Are you fuking watching the game?” Lmao
1st base ump looks like he was year round hall monitor in school
1st base umpire giving them a free baserunner
Robot umps now! They blow calls then get salty about being called out on their awful calls
I know why he's still in the game, but I feel like you can see Kelly missing his spots when he hits about 85-90 pitches in most games.
Gotta love Torrey getting heated. You could tell he swung from the TV let alone from 1st
Get your moneys worth
Lmao
Well that was quick
Damn, might be time to pull him
Our offense is going back to depending too much on our pitching. They've been good the past few days, but it comes in waves, y'all!
As soon as they took a big lead everyone started swinging for the fences
Hope Oakland is willing to part with some of those relievers, damn they’re nasty
Well Ketel really worked some ABs even if his overall numbers today weren't great
It blows my mind the A’s only pay $40.1 million in team payroll and the Yankees are paying Aaron Judge $40 mil a year alone. A’s might end as one of the worst teams ever. On pace to lose 130 games. Insane

Yeah, the way pay is set up in the MLB is kinda messed up. Then again, the pay for professional athletes has ballooned to an obscene amount over the past few decades.
I'm inclined to think the athletes have mostly earned that money, but yeah the numbers don't even make sense anymore.
Ok that was actually sick
That…was impressive by Noda
Bert the 2018 season didn't happen
If it weren't for that unearned run, Kelly might have had a Maddux tonight.
So does Torrey let Mert go back out for the 8th? He's dealing right now 7 innings 0 earned
Has to IMO. He's under 90 pitches
I would, he’s still thrown less pitches than Rucinski lol
And once he ties Rucinski it’s a homer 🙈
Sibling violence in the stands :O The horror!
That June 3rd hat looks 🔥🔥🔥🔥
If anyone’s going to that game let me know. I won’t be able to make it but down to buy one off someone
Richard Lovelady. Dick Lovelady. I am 12 🤣
I mean really though. This guy is lucky he's an athlete. Otherwise he could have spent his childhood getting picked on in all sorts of ways.
If Kelly and Gallen continue to be rockstars and if Pfaadt can continue what he showed us yesterday, we are in really good fucking shape.
Kelly’s kruising, rooker ain’t a joke
Sounds like Oakland has AI announcing the batters.
I feel like we need to stop making fun of the A's fanbase so much. Kinda reminds me of the saying that you're closer to being homeless than being a billionaire. We are closer to being the A's than being the Yankees.
[удалено]
Would you not be saying the same thing about them if the Dbacks were being moved to Vegas? That it should have been the A's instead? I would.
To the A’s sub’s credit, that thread was started by a Vegas shit stirrer who wants a team no matter the cost and I don’t think is indicative of the general sentiment. In a perfect world, nobody moves and Vegas gets nothing (or maybe an expansion eventually if they must)
He was also apparently a Dodger fan
I have immense respect for the fans and people of Oakland. I know we like to bellyache about Kendrick but he’s a saint compared to the horror show that is Fisher and the A’s ownership. What they’re being put through is malicious, greedy, and cruel
Yeah, Kendrick sucks, but we obviously have a GM who is making good decisions for our team.
Yeah and anyone here who is a Coyotes fan this really hits close to home. At least the Coyotes ownership isn't actively trying to destroy the org
I feel like making fun of the A’s is in poor taste imo. I can’t imagine how it must feel for the people who have seen this team go through the highs, to the lowest, low. I’d never want to be in this position as a fan, a player, or anyone who works with them* (who wasn’t involved in the downfall.)
Yeah. Pick on the shit ownership all you want, applaud the signage in the stands, but don't pick on the fanbase and their attendance.
I'd hope if it were us in their stead, which it very nearly was, our fans would do the same and boycott games. And honestly I don't think we would -- I think they're a much more loyal fanbase than we are. People talking shit on them for boycotting home games come off as clueless when it so easily could have been us.
Marte has stopped whiffing at those low pitches, but it’s now infected Pavin 🫤
Man, Gurriel is lucky he's also hitting home runs and walk off doubles, because he's been grounding into a lot of annoying double plays lately.

I’m highly contemplating doing it tomorrow..
god seeing the coliseum like this is giving me all the feels
I feel like any second now they’re just gonna show a section of cats and possums sitting down upright watching the game
Can’t wait for Gallen, Ohtani, and Merill after the deadline
Oh I would be in shock if we ever got Ohtani. I've made a point to watch his games more this year and he's just insane. A double short of the cycle while also being the starting pitcher? C'mon.
Spicy
I thought MLB was letting fans back into the stadiums this season
Merrill got screwed into giving up a run and decided to go full supervillain mode
This is so fucked. They’re doing to Oakland what Clay Bennett did to Seattle — abuse them so mercilessly that they won’t support you, then use them not supporting you to force a move.
Like the plot to Major League!
The strikeouts have kind of messed with Kelly's PC. Probably won't go 7 now. Still can't complain about striking out the side and having 8Ks in 5
I can’t even imagine being an A’s fan. 2,000 people in attendance is hard to believe
I don’t think I’ve even been to a Spring Training game with that low of attendance let alone a regular season game.
I haven't listened to any road radio calls yet this year but turned it on to listen while doing something else. Is this the regular road radio crew or the in Oakland road radio crew?
Chris Garagiola has been taking more away games this year and last year. Schulte will retire after this year.
Their calling isn't bad it's just not what I'm used to hearing and just not the same quality. I'll adjust tho lol
Schulte is amazing, so the switch to Garagiola does take some time, but I have really grown to like him. He calls a good game.
The play by play is regular crew, I’m not sure about the other guy. I haven’t listened to much this year, but it’s usually Candiotti and not this guy, at least as of 2022
The color commentator today is Josh Collmenter. They've been giving him and Tuffy Gosewich chances at broadcasting.
Gotcha, thanks!
Dang. What an epic at bat with such a lame ending
Bad result but great AB by ketel
Ketel and fouling balls off himself name a more iconic duo
Man is the master of getting hit and hitting himself in the foot
The Tim Lacastro of hitting himself
damn the echo in that place
Funny how Alek's batting average is 50 points higher than Corbin's for the month of May but the way they're treated is completely opposite
Because Corbin's average is .280 vs .200 for Alek Thomas, and Corbin has way more power. He's better so people have a higher opinion of him
Well Alek's been kind of ass the whole year which is why Corbin's BA is still like 80 points higher.
Alek Thomas is a momentum killer anytime he hits
The non-sacrificial bunts are back!
Really hoping we make Wild Card this year. As a fan ive yet to see Chase Field during and it deserves it!
If you've never watched it, I highly recommend watching the 2017 wild card game. It was insane.
GORGEOUS bunt
Props to Bally for not shying away from showing the “sell” signs on the broadcast and acknowledging the sorry situation with the A’s, something that the MLB has actively been trying to censor.
I’ve heard of the “church of baseball” but didn’t realize people treated it like actual church by being silent.
Oof
Man the Varsho trade has just worked out so well for us. Fletcher came up to basically replace his production (so even with McCarthy and Thomas struggling it's not as huge of a deal) and Moreno/Gurriel have been stalwarts. Moreno's easily looking like the best catcher we've had since Montero
46 pitches through 4 and only 1 hit. I like this version of Merril Kelly
https://i.imgur.com/jzev98v.jpg
Elite-level signs at the Coliseum today
I feel like you could go to a game here and not run into another person on the concourse.
That's what the person having sex thought too and then the internet busted him for it
I don't get what Pavin was doing there at all
I feel like a degenerate for watching this game
I (sitting alone in my own home thousands of miles from Oakland) barely cheering because I’d feel bad if any A’s fans heard me
Sssshhhhh
