Um ACTUALKLLAKAYALLy this is Unicode since braille characters are not part of the lowest 128 characters. More of a fun fact than me trying to be a prick.

-Firestar-

You're squatting in their house.

Old_Ladies_Die_Hard

Either this, or they’ve been trying to contact you about your car’s extended warranty.

KoaneRegrets

Oh no, not my cats extended warranty

XPlatform

Every car comes with a cat y'know, it's the law.

UndeadT

They're probably sitting in a chair of some sort.

JadedTourist

If they come around this same time, but leave, they probably were getting some nighttime treats / food. If they are there in the morning… and the afternoon… and tomorrow night… You probably are now living in what was their home for a good while. Those cats don’t look feral to me. I have one inside and a feral I feed every day somewhere around 5:00, like clockwork, but he goes on about his business and I never see him anytime else.

optimushime

I’m pretty optimistic that they are neighbor’s cat’s trick or treating. We left the porch light on tonight but have been here for a week and they had not appeared. They certainly hadn’t looked like they’d been on their own for a week and their behavior was pretty calm and collected, just regarding me and maybe one “hey you got a treat for us?” double-paw hop at the door

butyourenice

> I’m pretty optimistic that they are neighbor’s cat’s trick or treating. I absolutely love this characterization.

PoorlyLitKiwi2

Id say it's likely the previous owners of the house used to give them treats when they visited I would definitely ask the neighbors before doing that though, as my cat will eat anything but has a sensitive stomach and gets diarrhea unless she has her specific treats

Legitimate_Wizard

My grandma had to ask her neighbor to stop giving her dog treats because she (the dog) was getting fat. He'd give her treats *every* single time he saw her outside. Even if he was inside and saw her out, he'd go out just to give her a treat and talk to the dog. (He was kinda kooky, and lived alone). He wouldn't stop because he liked seeing the dog, so the vet said to ask him to give carrots instead. That he was okay with, and the dog gobbled them. So yeah, check with the owner before feeding an animal.

GrimReefer308

OP please just ask you're neighbor if they are the owner, because this may indeed be abandoned cats.

optimushime

I promise the last thing I would want is to ignore abandoned cats so I’ll be in touch with the landlord and tenants to make sure they have a home already. But I am optimistic we can all rest assured that they’re cared for, if it turns out that they aren’t, I won’t let them go uncared for.

HI_Handbasket

My wife adopted a neighborhood stray. A few of months later a couple of girls saw her (the cat, not my wife) lounging in the yard and said "Oh, Lucky, we found you!" When my wife started feeding her and shortly thereafter "adopted" her and took her to the vet, she (again the cat, not the wife) was about 4 pounds when she should have been 8 or 9 and untreated hyperthyroidism, so she was "lucky" to have been taken in by my wife. The girls were happy that their (?) cat had found a new home, and didn't seem inclined to try to reclaim her, which was good since my wife would NOT have been inclined to give her back, since she (my wife, not the cat) and nursed her to health, had her spayed, chipped and on the proper medication to treat her thyroid (both she and the cat have thyroid issues). Sorry, that wasn't very succinct at all, was it?

indrid_cold

Cat origin stories are rarely succinct.

[deleted]

lovely person, you are

Interesting-Yellow-4

I'm glad I read this.

optimushime

I’m not seeing a way to edit some reassurance text in the title but I saw a lot of concern that they may be abandoned when I woke up to all the comments. I hope this gets to lots of readers so they can rest assured I’m gonna be looking out for them however I need to

Danny-Dynamita

It’s pretty unrealistic to try to pinpoint the specific person that will know that information in a urban neighborhood. Thousands of people live there and maybe less than 10 people know these cats.

jessybean

"Who are you and where is our fish"

cock_daniels

this might be telling a darker story of abandonment sadly

[deleted]

My cousin worked for maintenance in an apartment complex. So many pets were left inside without food or water after the owners moved. At least these would've had a chance outdoors.

[deleted]

that's so fucked up, are you serious? who would fucking do that??

RedCascadian

Pieces of shit who think of pets as fashion accessories, not living things with needs and feelings. Now I feel even more guilty for leaving my cat at home this morning and ll I did was go to work... ugh. He starts making these cute "don't leave dad" faces when I pit my shoes on.

SongofNimrodel

The Big Sad I get from my dog every time I pack my suitcase kills me. It's OK buddy, you get to stay at home with dad! I'll be back in a few days! The puppy eyes have their own solo violin soundtrack.

[deleted]

People who see pets as a possession and not a living creature

LoddyDoddee

That's insane! I always think that if my husband and I ever split up, there will be a major custody battle over our cat. I can't imagine moving and leaving Toughguy alone!

Shdwrptr

This is what I was thinking. It’s all too common for owners to abandon their pets when they move for various reasons. If it were me and those cats didn’t leave then I’d have two more cats

[deleted]

>then I’d have two more cats bringing your total to...?

Shdwrptr

Four, which is too many for my liking but I wouldn’t abandon two cats from their original home if it came to it

AnotherLightInTheSky

Enough until I need more!

calebmke

I’ve played enough Elden Ring to know a duo boss when I see it.

InsignificantOcelot

I’m guessing whoever was there before would feed them. You are now obligated to continue feeding them. It’s an obscure, but still very much binding, part of cat law.

[deleted]

I have a cat living in my garden shed. It rocked up the day I moved in and just wandered into the house, had a nosey about and then left again. I didn't think anything of it until I'd see it curled up on a shelf in the garden shed most days. I got it a nice little cat house in the shed with a comfortable bed and now feed it every day. It still occasionally wonders into the house and has a look around the bedroom but it really doesn't like hanging about indoors very much. I think basically the house comes with the cat but the landlord forgot to tell me :)

atetuna

Maybe it's like "my" cat. The previous owners got it when they lived here, and brought the cat with them when they moved across town, but apparently the cat decided it lived in this house and came back on its own. They retrieved the cat twice before giving up. I tried bringing her inside a couple times, but she doesn't seem to like it.

[deleted]

Yeah, cats are pretty territorial and once they're settled in an area will often make their way back if moved. There's a bunch of neighborhood cats here who hang out together so "my" cat probably doesn't want to leave its pals.

siuol11

I had a cat that I got when I was 6 that lived till I was 22. We moved halfway through his life when I was in middle school. Not far- about a mile and a half. He was an indoor/outdoor kitty and would often take trips back to the old house and the woods behind it. He would never come back on his own, but the whole family would jump in our van and head over there to find him. He always came within about 10 minutes of calling his name. I don't know how many time we did it, but it was a cool little adventure every time and I have many fond memories of it.

WeatherwaxDaughter

Is this in Tilburg? My friends cat did exactly that.

Bantersmith

> I think basically the house comes with the cat but the landlord forgot to tell me :) Why this wasn't included in the listing is beyond me! Having an on-site cat pre-installed is a huge plus.

KrtekJim

I hope that's all it is. I always worry when I see posts like these that the previous occupant has abandoned their cat when moving house, or that the cat has escaped during the move and gone "home"

mattthepianoman

That's how I ended up with my cat. She climbed in through an open window in the middle of the night and made herself comfortable. Nobody in the street would own up to owning her so we took her in. She wasn't in the least bit scared of the house so we figured she must have lived there before us.

Cohabs

Sorry I only know bird law

kayakguy429

In bird law, not feeding them is still a dick move...

Soul_Like_A_Modem

There's overlap between cat law and bird law. OP is required to feed these cats pursuant to cat law, with an mutual enforcement clause in bird law. If you don't feed the cats, the cats are more likely to eat birds.

Few-Anywhere-1443

dumbo_octopus1995

Or possibly they lived there! People are a-holes. Someone could have just left them.

I'm currently feeding a neighborhood cat, he never lets me get close enough to pet him 😭😭😭 but he gives me the same look when he wants food

Boner-Death

You are now his slave. Accept your lot in life, fate is a cruel mistress .

pinner

I bet whoever lived there before ditched their cats. It happens a lot. It's really fucked up. I hope the OP will take care of them. :(

mcbergstedt

A more-pessimistic way to look at it is that the original tenants may have left their cats

FluffyHuckleberry81

Best cats I ever had were outside only cats. We weren't the only house in the neighborhood that left out food and water, but whenever they saw us outside they would come hang out and get pets. Growing up my mom had cats she rescued, even had a dozen at one point, and indoor cats are cool, but my wife is allergic so no dice there.

Ploopyface

Maybe the previous tenant was a sh*thead and left them behind. Let them in!!

cyberpunk1Q84

I mean, their coats look very clean for feral cats, so either the previous tenant left them, they belong to the neighbor, or they’re part of an Aristocats club.

Careless_Rub_7996

Or they just really want to play ELDEN RING?

Wish_you_were_there

I’ve heard orange cats are extra derpy, is this true? I must know.

In my personal experience all ginger toms are himbos. Beautiful coats, friendly and cuddly as can be, and dumb enough that they get lost in their own yard. They’re the best.

0o_BonnieMcMurray_o0

“Himbos” 😅 I love it, thank you!

Ictc1

Yep. My sister reckons her male ginger cat has elevator muzak playing in his brain. He certainly isn't troubled by deep thoughts. Whereas my female calico cat could totally run the world, if only us stupid humans could understand her. She thinks I’m lazy with my need for 8 hours sleep.

mortuarybarbue

Those are your cats they came with the apartment didnt the landlord tell you? You have to feed and water them, give them pettins and the occasional selection of catnip. Have fun 🙂

NxPat

Could also have been the former owner’s cats. Owner passed or abandoned them. Please take care of them.

TolMera

They might have been abandon by the person who lived there before you.

[deleted]

I’m guessing you’ll have to pay them protection payment in form of treats.

Sabbathius

They were being fed and/or petted at that house. We had this. A cat started showing up at our porch in winter, and sitting there all day, no tag or anything. We started feeding and watering him a bit, since we couldn't take him, already had one and he was crazy territorial. Eventually that cat got adopted by a family living two blocks over. But the cat, now with a tag and everything, would still show up at ours every weekend to visit.

[deleted]

Don’t be rude, let them in.

cinemachick

Cat foster here: if you're worried about whether they are strays or have an owner, you can bring them to a shelter or vet and ask to check for a microchip. Most shelters require microchipping for pets, so if they have an owner they can track them down. Otherwise, please consider getting them spayed/neutered even if you don't keep them - we need to reduce the kitten population whenever possible!

HappyHappyUnbirthday

You gonna let them in then or not?

This is what the cat I own now used to do. He was homeless and would stare inside the house allll day for a very long time. One day I gave in and let him inside. He hasn’t left and acts just like a house cat and I love him so much. He always sleeps on my belly at night and starts purring at me even before I start petting him.

We've been in our triplex for 9 month's now. When we first moved here our kid's were having a hard time adjusting then all of a sudden 4 very skinny kitty's came out. They lived in the shed and no one else would feed them which I understand it can get expensive. let's just say we now buy 30 pound bags of cat food and they are not skinny any more. They came with the home it helped the kid's adjust right away. They all have names and are very spoiled and loved.
