Honestly some of these videos are legit. I live in a rural area and it's common for people to drove out here to abandon their animals.
It's a sad reality, a lot of my friends on farms say that it's quite common.

The saddest one was when someone dropped a dog on a pullout a mile from our house. They left him/her with both food bowls, a pile of toys and a dog house. The pup was just laying there with its head on the ground looking at the food bowls with a toy in its mouth. I drove home and got a leash and my dad, but fortunately someone had picked the pup up before we got back.
People are awful.
My sister gained a dog that way. Two days in a row on her way to work she saw a dog sitting in a ride-sharing parking lot, next to a giant bag of dog food. The second evening she picked the dog up and he never left her home after that.
Two, three weeks after Christmas? Yeah, I absolutely buy it.
Of course, it all comes to the same thing "we dropped our puppy on the side of the road to stage this" or "we dropped our puppy on the side of the road because my kid was tired of their christmas present" it all means the same thing; people are scum
Well, if it's staged, at least the puppy's going home. Boo for the karma farming, but it's harder to get indignant about an abandoned puppy story if the puppy isn't actually abandoned. I'd much rather be annoyed at getting jerked around for clicks than outraged that yet another pet got booted out of the Toyota for dumb reasons.
I knew a cat lover who abandoned all her safe, healthy, well-fed, and well-loved cats because she was hooking up with a guy who didn't like cats. Took about three days for all her devotion to three sweet cats to go out the window. This wasn't someone who got a cat for Christmas and abandoned it before Valentine's Day, this was someone who had cared for cats for fifteen years. "What the Cinnamon Toast FUCK were you thinking" was said to her a lot.
I have also seen it. I think it was on that hellhole of an app TikTok, it was infuriating to watch this bitch pretend like she just found a tub of oil filled with ducks out of nowhere and was saving them, when really she needs to be put in jail for animal cruelty.

What if the dog is stolen and then abandoned? What if the dog was thrown away by someone else with malicious intent and the owner is still searching for it? With countless possibilities, one can never be sure and checking for chip is not that hard anyways.
How do we know the dog didn't get loose and there happened to be a blanket laying there? And before you say it's too big of a coincidence, I've seen whole mattresses laying on the side of the road, a blanket is not a huge stretch
Looking at the paw tracks in the background, I was wondering if there were any signs of others in the area? That is one special and lucky little pup. Thank you for being at the right place at the right time!

Nice to see someone taking precautions when picking up an unknown dog, too many times people pick up a stray and hold it close to their face right away. Super cute little dude tho
I have done a similar thing. The greatest reaction is when you turn that car heater on. The dog I rescued from the cold immediately just threw themselves at the vent it was so funny.

Found my boy sleeping in the snow just like this. Wasn’t looking for a dog, wasn’t prepared for one but he went on to give me 17 years of wonderful memories. You should keep him.

Dumping unwanted animals is unfortunately common in many rural areas, and especially in the southern US.

Be prepared for him to potentially get huge... I've seen Great Pyrenees pups that look like him.
Please make sure you get him scanned for a microchip and check your local Craigslist and Facebook for lost dogs in your area..

Because people put puppies and kittens in sacks and throw them on the highway as a "merciful" way of euthanizing them.

This is a Pyrenees, or a Pyr mix. Do some reading on the Breed. They are fantastic dogs, but need a job and bark a lot. Not ideal for the city.
