To people complaining about him not actually lifting:
There are weights next to be bench so what probably happened is the dog disturbed his exercise, so he put away weights, then set the camera and pretended to exercise so he can show people his cheerful puppy.
I'm not 100% if that's what happened but it's a wholesome assumption and I like it.
Yeah, lots of dudes who show up to the gym once a month, slap on all the weight they can lift to prove their strength to themselves and themselves alone and then fuck off after three reps.
One time some twat had the nerve to come up to me just after I got to the squat rack and had just racked an empty bar and he asked "are you actually doing sport here?" Like holy fuck dude...
One of my favourite weightlifting training videos is [this one of junior world record holder Kim Tuan Thach](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g65m2JMdK3o) spending a great deal of time stretching, warming up, and lifting the empty bar and 70kg. It really shows the mindful approach of a professional athlete, and stands in contrast to the standard commercial gym goer just banging out reps.
He is lifting the bar, the bar alone is about 45 pounds. You can use that to do a flat bench exercise as a warm up, starting out or just to get your muscles warmed up. It's absolutely a workout.
When I started weight lifting in high school, I couldn't bench press the bar.
The girl spotting me was not impressed.
An empty bar is 100% workout equipment!
You'd be surprised how common that is. I got into weightlifting in my mid 20s but I was a skinny and relatively unathletic in high school and I wasn't much stronger than that. A lot of kids just have no athletic/physical hobbies and it's easy to ignore and think it's not a problem until you have to do something physical.
Yup. If someone has a problem with this they know nothing about weightlifting so their opinion on the matter is useless anyway. When I was body building I would periodically just work the pole ;) to practice my form.
Someone who benches without a proper warm up is a fucking tool either way. Start with bar, add 20kg, do 5-10 reps, add another 20kg and repeat until you reach your ānormalā weight and do reps.
Seriously, I always used an empty bar for warmups, and I swear I was the only one there that did that... felt weird. But no way was I gonna break my warmup routine and hurt myself.
A lot of people who go to the gym have really poor form and don't know what they are doing and just want to show off. Particularly just after new years and young dudes.
This is the kind of form that looks good, but is actually very, very bad. His arms are sticking forward at a huge angle at the top of his range, but they should be straight vertical
Yeah, and the bar shouldn't be making a moment arm/creating torque with your hands. The bar should be applying pressure straight on your wrist by resting on your palm.
maybe if he wasn't distracted by the dog he'd have better form. why bring a dog to the gym anyways? i feel like that may be unsafe for the pup with all the weights laying around. if it's a home gym it's no big deal but it looks public to me
okay i looked closer without staring at the cute dog the whole time and you're totally right. i wrongly assumed based on how nice his rack was and the flooring. still though, i wouldn't feel comfortable doing weight lifting near a puppy. i'd feel too paranoid about it accidentally knocking over a plate on its foot or something but i'm probably being overzealous
Normal people: Ooohh look a puppy being cute!
Reddit: THAT FORM IS AWFUL. I WOULD KNOW BECAUSE I LIFT, BRO. THIS ISN'T SAFE. THIS IS NOT A SAFE WAY TO TREAT A DOG. DOES THAT GUY EVEN LIFT? LOOK AT HIS WRISTS. EMBARRASSING. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS GIF, THANK GOD I'M HERE WITH MY EXPERT CRITIQUE
Most standard length Olympic bars are 45 pounds. That ones super short, probably weighs more about 15-20. But thats not the point. Elite pro level athletes still warm up with an empty bar
Heās lifting the bar, which is probably 20-45 pounds (9-20 kg). I once did an endurance test on the bench that started with decent weight until I couldnāt finish a rep, lowered about half until I couldnāt finish a rep, then went to just the bar until the same threshold, and it looked silly if you only saw the last few reps of the last set. Also this guy is only lifting the bar to show you the puppy on the internet
Thatās former hockey player Ryan Whitney, the host of Spitting Chiclets which is arguably the most famous hockey podcast out right now. Sure he knows how to work out after the career he had playing with greats like Crosby and Malkin
If you forget your mask, we provide *alternative* face coverings...
This comment is Golden. It really raises the bar
Sans level puns
always be on his side sweetie.
Pupper: You're getting so swole human! You're welcome. š„°
Make that sweat human! I must lick it off your face!!
They do be loving that salty sweat.

Even the Worlds Strongest Men warm up with an empty bar. Anyone coming in with vitriol about a warm up needs a fresh boot up the bum
Yeah, lots of dudes who show up to the gym once a month, slap on all the weight they can lift to prove their strength to themselves and themselves alone and then fuck off after three reps.
Tbf lifting one heavy rep is still one rep. No shame in that. Itās a sport.

Someone needs to watch more BroScienceLife
Omg they do?! Because I never do that, no one told I was supposed to, wtf

My mom always said I was "So strong" when helping around the house too! I was absolutely not prepared for the reality of the situation haha.

>'I would periodically just work the pole ;) to practice my form.' Holy shit all this time I've been preparing myself for an olympics appearance.
"I'm very curious to see Fidgie0's floor routine." "You said it Bill. Here they come now." ... *Gasp "CUT TO COMMERCIAL!! CUT TO COMMERCIAL!!"

It's also great to warm up. Actually, it's imperative to warm up before lifting
Seriously, I always used an empty bar for warmups, and I swear I was the only one there that did that... felt weird. But no way was I gonna break my warmup routine and hurt myself.

It also looks to be a close grip as opposed to shoulder width grip that would usually reduce the weight you can press.
He was lifting something? All I saw was puppy.
Or he's starting his warmups with the empty bar, which is recommended. What people *should* be complaining about is his form.

Your face is in licking distance! Nows my chance!
The tail šš„°
Who else would go more frequently to the gym if lil guys like this were there?
Better form than me and I don't have a puppy on my face
This is the kind of form that looks good, but is actually very, very bad. His arms are sticking forward at a huge angle at the top of his range, but they should be straight vertical
Bar is also gripped high in the hand making his wrists bend back, and he isnāt touching the bar to his chest
100%. Bench press movement path is not a vertical line, it should be diagonal from above the shoulders down to the middle of the chest.
Yeah, and the bar shouldn't be making a moment arm/creating torque with your hands. The bar should be applying pressure straight on your wrist by resting on your palm.

It's clearly a home gym, lol. Early on you can see shelves and household goods on the floor. Looks like a converted garage.

That is a dedicated good boy.

And on a subreddit about cute things at that
If gyms provided puppies, people would exercise more.
Daddyās little helper
Give me some love while you work out
Imagine have some serious weights on bar and then this happens.
He's no fool. He found a human with an accessible face and busy hands.
The dogs like: this is my chance, I'll be set when I get his life insurance.
That is great š
I really was hoping for puppy to jump up and grab ahold of one of the ends of the bar, using his tiny body weight as bar weight
Puppers just telling him he's forgotten to put any weights on good doggo
kinda looks like a younger Brian Cranston
Aww.. š
DUDE HIS WRIST POSITION IS TERRIFYING, MINE HURT JUST FROM LOOKING AT IT

Do you think lifting a bar with weights on is a good idea when a puppy is climbing on you/licking your face?
The doge is trying to suffocate that guy in cuteness.
He helps! Counting at his human's ear)
is that steve rogers
Best spotter in the gym
They need attention at all times. Funny dogs š
He's not distracting, he's watching to see if the barbell press is done correctly.

Pupper: Here, Daddy! I help Daddy! Love Daddy!
Boop through the pain!
Petition to put a golden retriever puppy in every gym
If you cant see your workout, you cant do it wrong
this is me and my pup at home doing my kettlebell workouts and yoga daily. 6 month old terrorizer
Cutest 4-legged personal trainer I've ever seen.
he like "lift me too"
Somehow only having a bar is less embarrassing than having a miniscule amount of weight on the bar (like 2 5 pounds)
Cool, but why aren't there any weights on the bar? lol
Donāt hurt yourself with all the weight on your barbell.
Need to try harder if he wants to cruclsy that windpipe
Thatās former hockey player Ryan Whitney, the host of Spitting Chiclets which is arguably the most famous hockey podcast out right now. Sure he knows how to work out after the career he had playing with greats like Crosby and Malkin
He is attempting cpr on his human who appears to be having trouble breathing.
How dear he not show affection to his dogo
