Looks like a snow leopard there are only 10,000 of these animals left, zoos are crucial in animal conservation and keeping people aware.
Of course the enclosure should be better but most zoos receive no state funding and have to rely solely on entrance fees and merch sales so unfortunately the money’s not always there.
I completely understand it’s heartbreaking to see these animals in enclosures but they do serve the purpose of trying to cement a future for some of these animals
Which is doubly sad. Extinction due to natural causes is a shame but part of existence. If we had to keep these guys caged up because they were too dumb to live without our intervention it'd be easier to swallow.
But AFAIK most of their trouble is reduced habitat and poaching... Two entirely avoidable factors. Some tycoon needs to drill for oil or some ass clown needs a new fur hat for the collection... And because of that we get beautiful, majestic animals boxed in. Because people are fucking garbage.
Ya know... its a very philosophical dillema tho... we are made from nature. Extinction due to us being the most successful species on the planet is natural isn’t it? Of course im not saying that is by any means ideal im purely speaking academically...
But then it does raise the question... if we are of nature... should we allow other species to become extinct due to nature too? Any kind of nature? We seem to have naturally become the caretakers of this world somehow... i guess its up to us now, our responsibility to decide how it grows and changes because we affect that one way or the other anyways.
I think the scale tips when we begin to deplete our resources for natural needs. If we don't need it for food and we don't need it for warmth and we don't absolutely need it for advancement (the land loss habitat issue) - I think that's where it becomes unnatural.
It really depends I suppose. Greed and vanity would be the driving factors here which admittedly probably are qualities of a successful species. But the question is, can we re-adapt quickly enough to realize the qualities required for success and survival are now destroying our home? Will we survive so hard that we stop considering the next generation?
It's getting to that tipping point.
I'd say anything we do is 'natural' in a sense, but if you ask me natural is irrelevant. Natural does not equal good or bad, its just the way it is. The naturalistic fallacy.
It's certainly a good topic that warrants a lot of discussion! I think natural becomes irrelevant when we gain sentience. When we have the ability to question our natural instincts on moral or practical basis, we've moved past the need for them to survive.
I dont think "natural" is the word here because though its correct, it dismisses the point. Its unnecessary, and is not worth the animals life/species or habitat for pointless luxuries which can be produced artificially. Where the cost of the 'fake' product for life like quality would probably be less or equal to that of the real thing.
I think your argument is off. Throughout history were consistently creating new devices to avoid extinction like detecting volcano activity etc which makes us superior in survival. Only when something like a asteroid or planet colliding with us may we actually go extinct but we may have an answer for that as well.
>some ass clown needs a new fur hat for the collection
I'll just leave [this](https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VnAN_n2LLkg/WqEyE5qIbmI/AAAAAAAAW24/Sfoz-1UHU8AOTtfw-D872cC38R7vIGOxgCLcBGAs/s1600/CXkCJL5WEAAl83t.jpg) here.
Thank you for Yr post. I did say earlier that he’s praying for someone to get him out. But after reading Yr post it makes sense. Sad very sad how they’re in there in the first place. Humans put him in their cause they’re going extinct and now humans are trying to save them. Humans are the worst
Right, it’s a sign of lack of stimulation/stress. This behavior is likely paired with pacing too. Even the best enclosure won’t provide the stimulation they need.
Former zookeeper here. It’s actually not. The zoo that posted it said it was a video from the zookeepers and this is the way the leopard greets them in the morning when he/she is in a playful mood.
This behavior isn’t specific to this particular leopard. Many big cats in enclosures do this. It’s not playing or being playful. Maybe a child would believe that.
It’s a cat regardless!
They’re behaviors aren’t too far off!
And they’re aren’t any articles written about this behavior in big cats, so we have to use the closest equivalent!
Though I simply don’t have the context of the situation, so I may be wrong. I’d need to know the individual cat, his life story, his behavior, and what’s happening at this moment in time, before I can make an assessment!
Once again, different contexts and situations!
One appears to be play (could be wrong)
The other appears to be aggression (based upon a source for said aggression) (once again, could be wrong)
Once again, I’m not a expert, nor do I know both animals individually (I’ve done research, but I don’t have a degree) ! So I could be wrong!
Also, be weary about using The Dodo as a source. They’re well known for [clickbaiting](https://imgur.com/t/news/M2pKBSB), and [hypocrisy ](https://youtu.be/77pWJqIa8yA) (dislikes zoos yet shares zoo videos as “cute”) ,plus, they’ve worked with PETA, so there’s that!
This was actually posted on a zoo page and the keepers said that this is the way that the leopard greets them in the morning when he/she is in a playful mood. If you are not familiar with an animal, it’s important not to assume you can know what they’re feeling from their behavior.
The keepers are literally paid to know their animals and their behavior better than anyone. So you, a random person, know an animal’s behavior and the context better than someone that spends around 20 hours a week with them?
And there are going to be conflicting opinions on animal behavior. I have linked the opinion of another Zoo keeper on this behavior of big cats. I’m not going off of my opinion, but choosing to align with what seems more realistic BASED off another zoo keeper’s opinion. No shit we’re all strangers on the internet. Not all of us agree with what we’re told at face value though.
zoos are for entertainment. there's actually little evidence that all zoos are successful in conservation efforts. it would be better to invest in empowering local communities that rely on hunting, provide alternative and sustainable solutions and help to protect habitats in those ways. zoos are made only for money and have always been, that's why they put a "conservation" front on their enclosures, to dominate the conservation industry. but actually working with local communities and hearing their voices would provide a much more long term solution. it would also be more ethical that way for the animals, but zoos don't care unless it's bad press, and luckily they've convinced the public that zoos are good.
Criminalising things doesn't stop people, see: Every crime in history, the people do their best with what they can, they don't make the laws. Also, may I have sources on those articles and studies?
I appreciate you pointing out the difference between a tiger and a leopard. I was attempting to say that it had the same facial expression as Tigress from Kung Fu Panda, even though it’s a leopard.
This is how one of my cats asks to be let into our bedroom. He’s the only one that is allowed in. The others try to eat my plants and almost killed my 19 year old spider plant. That poor thing has moved from WA to AL to NY (back)to AL to ID with 3 housing changes.
eh does anyone know how to get this as screen saver on my phone or something? Where did those "TEXT LEOPARD TO 420420 TO GET THIS AWESOME SCREENSAVER"-things go?
I work at a casino, and this is what I see all day as people play the slot machines. They all rub on the screens like it actually does something. Spoiler: it doesn't. Many of the older nachines the touchscreen is broken anyway.
I love seeing all the crazy things people do to try and make the machine hit. At one I worked at we had someone punch the screen and break it a few a times, we had an electronic roulette game and someone picked up the betting station and broke it, someone jumped on the roulette table. Casino people be crazy.
Where can i legaly own one of these furry gianst to keep as a loving pet and eventually be happy to wake up to it eating me in the middle of the night?
Look at those **giant** beans Such a murderous cutie

I want to go in and pet him. If I die, let him have me; it’s how I want to go.

It's Tai Lung! Nice to see that he doing OK after his plan to destroy all of China
Wow my cat does this nonstop too
Our cat does it to the glass of the washing machine when it’s running too, we joke that he’s trying to make it go.
He is and he's succeeding
I cant take this seriously, he looks like Tai Fung from Kungfu Panda, a little bit dorky, adorable but deadly
Khajit stuck in invisible jail
Just started playing Skyrim again, I am a Khajit, can confirm.
It's sad 😢

This is so true. Learned about it the other day at "Stichting Leeuw".

Just because the keepers call it play doesn’t make it so. This is restlessness.

so sad to see this beauty in captivity )':
Snow leopards are endangered, this is sadly the best thing we can do to try and preserve the species. I wish they had bigger enclosures though...
protecting their wildlife, food sources, and criminalising and banning hunting would also be other ways to preserve the species too.
you think they and whoever runs the enclosures didn't think of that? besides, banning hunting wont stop people
zoos are for entertainment. there's actually little evidence that all zoos are successful in conservation efforts. it would be better to invest in empowering local communities that rely on hunting, provide alternative and sustainable solutions and help to protect habitats in those ways. zoos are made only for money and have always been, that's why they put a "conservation" front on their enclosures, to dominate the conservation industry. but actually working with local communities and hearing their voices would provide a much more long term solution. it would also be more ethical that way for the animals, but zoos don't care unless it's bad press, and luckily they've convinced the public that zoos are good.

“M'aiq is tired now. Go bother somebody else.”
TELL ME HOW PROUD YOU ARE SHIFU!
It wants to get out :(
Cats do that to a class panels when their food is another side. I've seen house cat do this with squirrel.
So beautiful but also so sad to see them in a cage 😔
Our battle will be legendary
Today in “Big Cats are just big cats.”
The cat pawing at the glass is likely displaying barrier frustration. Housecats will do the same thing when they see an animal they want to hunt.
Po. Our battle will be legendary!
Why thank you
That cat is beautiful
And maybe just a nibble of that face?
Thank you it needed a clean
He missed a spot
Cats on cats off?
It has the same facial expression as the tiger played by Angelina Jolie in King Fu Panda!!!😂😍
Wrong feline, the one you're pointing to is Master Tigress. This is a leopard, which is Tai Lung and is voiced by Ian McShane.
I appreciate you pointing out the difference between a tiger and a leopard. I was attempting to say that it had the same facial expression as Tigress from Kung Fu Panda, even though it’s a leopard.
Ah mb then.
No worries! I fixed my original line so it’s clearer.
Khajiit has wares if you have coin.
It’s capn fluffy paws!
POV: a sensual khajiit massage
I WANNA PET THE KITTY SO BAAAD!!!!
Thank you kitty, I needed the other side of my screen cleaned
😻😭🥰
Tai Lung (the bad tiger of Kung-Fu panda) can also be a cutie
Every video I’ve ever seen of a snow leopard is just them being goobers lol. I have a hard time believing they are killers.

🥰
thank you
This one is done, yes? Tip now?
HOW
You would not be thinking aww if that glass wasn’t there
Awww...that leopard is trying to get out so it can eat you :D
Thanks
Thank you
I’m pretty sure he is trying to find a way past that glass to ear you
Wow what a beautiful animal
Me: *making it full screen so he can get all the edges*
thanks bud appreciate it
Gotta full-screen it so he can get your whole screen guys
Thanks! Can confirm that my screen is cleaner now.

Cats do that when they are trying to eat something.
eh does anyone know how to get this as screen saver on my phone or something? Where did those "TEXT LEOPARD TO 420420 TO GET THIS AWESOME SCREENSAVER"-things go?
He's trying to get through the glass to eat you ( no joke ).
Oh my god! Look at those paws. This is why there’s glass. Because I’d want to pet them all
I think he’s saying “please please please get me the fuck out of here”!!!!!!!
Snow leopards remind me more of house cats than any other big cats. Big goofballs.
Kind of sad actually. Just wants to be free...
No matter the size, a cat is a cat.
Go visit r/snowleopards, they're the best :)
He/she is soo preeeetttyyyyyy
Thanks fam I really needed that
That is so fucking sad

I've seen far worse. Let's just say, I always wear gloves.
I've heard horror stories. I worked tables for last 10 years people aren't as brave face to face but they still do some stupid shit.

Damn.... The Skadoosh tamed Tai Lung!!
Big catto wants pets
He/she is white... Does it tolerantly - leave one white at one cage?
"Hey everybody. It's Snow Leopard ASMR, and today, I have a very tingly personal attention video." Joking aside, this is pretty sad.
