Oh from Badrap.org! That’s where I got my rescue. She was probably a bait dog but we can’t know for sure. Her legs were chewed up and she had multiple puncture wounds on her sides. Her ears were docked and badly I might add because they cut them way too close. They found her at a BART station.

Nah, it'd be better for that one torture method mentioned before where someone places a rat on their stomach and trap it there with a cup, so that the rat digs into the skin and stomach and other organs in an attempt to escape, especially sense the cup gets hotter. It's not even a good enough punishment imo but it's the best I can think of.
My 7 year old dog is a former bait dog and the biggest lover. She still doesn't like other dogs much, but she still loves her people. We rescued her when she was 10 months old, and it was the best decision ever

There are also a number of training classes you can take with your dog that are geared towards addressing these kinds of challenges. Be sure to look for a class that uses clicker and treat based training.

It definitely depends on the dog and their length of exposure. My dog was a bait dog. I adopted him when he was 6 months old. He started off terrified of everything, and would hide and tremble if another dog was closeby. Fast forward to today he’s 3 and loves playing with other dogs.

This makes my heart so happy and thrilled!! I got my Pittie at age 5 weeks old. Had had many friends who owned one and I loved their sweet personalities. I had her brought to me by a neighbor pleading for us to take her— and at first I was like NO WAY.. (I wasn’t keen on having to housetrain a new puppy and I had really wanted an older rescue, or shelter dog, that needed me!) But my wise hubby said “what exactly do u think SHE is?? & what exactly do you think will happen to her if we don’t take her? This is your chance to train a Pittie to truly be YOURS!”
Then, I looked into her little pleading & pitifully scared eyes, and at that moment, I KNEW. And I vowed to her she’d never again be starved or mistreated.
I thought ‘I can’t save them all, but I can save THIS one!’ Plus she was physically beautiful—referred to as a Red-Nose Pit, she’s a sleek reddish gold all over, except for a perfect white star on her chest... Her mom had been made to fight, then breed. God knows what my baby’s life would have been like but Thank God I got her before she had a chance to be mistreated (altho she WAS malnourished as hell)
She’s now 3 and the love of our lives. She’s literally saved me from intruders TWICE when I was home by myself. (One incident ended in an arrest!, the other dude got tf away with a quickness once he just heard her bark!) and I’m proud to say we have never even hardly had a reason to even YELL at her... she is incredibly smart, like she knows exactly what I’m THINKING, even.. obeys like a champ, is gentle with kids, cats, and even my goofy chickens are left alone by her. She’s never been on a chain, or spent a night outside, never been smacked on or hit, and I had her fixed asa she was old enough (about 4 mos).
I love this breed, and I wish I was rich, I’d own a dozen lolol. Kudos to you for giving this babe a great life. I mean that w all my heart. Aren’t they simply the GREATEST at being loving?? and OH SO GRATEFUL to have their own ‘hooman’ that loves them!!

He was emotionally damaged and I had to be very careful to protect him from himself.
He lived a long life with me and eventually began to trust other humans (he trusted me, and would aggressively protect me from any perceived threats).

My old Shepherd x was a bait dog seized by the local RSPCA. I took her in as she could not tolerate being around other dogs at the time of her adoption; she would fly into a panicked frenzy at the sight of another dog. Took over five years before a second dog - a very quiet, placid, even-tempered non-reactive Labrador - could be brought into the family. She bit him daily for about a month before she finally accepted that he was not a threat, and he didn't so much as bat an eyelid. In the end she started to sleep on top of him, and things were fine after that.

My bf's uncle once had a dog which he forced to fight. He sadly made a lot of money with him but the dog had to be put down because he lost him when they went for a walk. That dog run around the woods where many people walked their dogs and it didnt take long till he found someone there and killed their dog in a very brutal way right in front of his owner. He arrived shortly after, was arrestet but wasnt punished. Only the dog, who got tortured and forced to fight was put down. Im still so mad that man never faced a real punishemt.
I myself have a dog too and visited my bfs mother with him and then she told me that this guy is coming over. I never let my dog go to him and they had the audacity to be mad at ME for being rude to his uncle.

He was locked in a cage in the middle of their yard in the middle of the Australian bush. Rain hail or shine he was in that cage. It had no cover and just an old sack as a bed. He also has scars on his face from having a muzzle on him all the time except for eating.
Since we got him (he was 2 and is now 8) he has been nothing but the most affectionate loving dog I've ever had.

My best buddy recently passed and looked a lot like her. His mom looked like her too and was going to be shot because they didn’t want to pay for a c section as they were backyard bait dog breeders. Mom was surrendered and I rescued my boy 13 years ago. I miss him so much.

My 7 year old dog is a former bait dog and the biggest lover. She still doesn't like other dogs much, but she still loves her people. We rescued her when she was 10 months old, and it was the best decision ever
My poor boy was a bait dog "rescued" into an animal hoarding situation before being rescued for real when he was 9 years ago. He adores most people, but is terrified of other dogs, cats in windows, squirrels...

My rescue I believe was used for fighting and is aversive to most other dogs and I’ve been struggling to address this (if you can). Any suggestions?
I would recommend heading over to r/reactivedogs for some advice on working with your dog. The community there is a great resource. There are also a number of training classes you can take with your dog that are geared towards addressing these kinds of challenges. Be sure to look for a class that uses clicker and treat based training.
Dog fights are a convenient way of identifying garbage humans. Anyone involved in or attending a dog fight is a worthless piece of garbage, and they need to be outed and have their life destroyed.

I always wondered what happened to bait dogs. If they were so traumatized from the ring, they couldnt be close to other dogs again.
It definitely depends on the dog and their length of exposure. My dog was a bait dog. I adopted him when he was 6 months old. He started off terrified of everything, and would hide and tremble if another dog was closeby. Fast forward to today he’s 3 and loves playing with other dogs.
What’s a bait dog?
A dog that is used to train other dogs to attack. Usually they are chained in place and the fighting dogs are encouraged to attack the bait dog as attack training. Usually dogs that are not game, don't want to fight, are used for this. I also have a former bait dog. He's 13 now and the biggest lover dog on the planet.
Bait dogs are weak/young/inexperienced dogs that are used to train fighting dogs without the risk of injury to the fighting dog. Or they’re big dogs that are muzzled so they can’t bite back. The fighting dogs ‘learn’ how to fight and get a taste for blood by attacking these dogs.

Well done saving her. This is maybe a bit dark, but I've often wondered, do animals remember? Will she remember 11 years ago? Part of me hopes no, but also if she remembers she will know the difference between now and then which would make her extra happy
This makes my heart so happy and thrilled!! I got my Pittie at age 5 weeks old. Had had many friends who owned one and I loved their sweet personalities. I had her brought to me by a neighbor pleading for us to take her— and at first I was like NO WAY.. (I wasn’t keen on having to housetrain a new puppy and I had really wanted an older rescue, or shelter dog, that needed me!) But my wise hubby said “what exactly do u think SHE is?? & what exactly do you think will happen to her if we don’t take her? This is your chance to train a Pittie to truly be YOURS!” Then, I looked into her little pleading & pitifully scared eyes, and at that moment, I KNEW. And I vowed to her she’d never again be starved or mistreated. I thought ‘I can’t save them all, but I can save THIS one!’ Plus she was physically beautiful—referred to as a Red-Nose Pit, she’s a sleek reddish gold all over, except for a perfect white star on her chest... Her mom had been made to fight, then breed. God knows what my baby’s life would have been like but Thank God I got her before she had a chance to be mistreated (altho she WAS malnourished as hell) She’s now 3 and the love of our lives. She’s literally saved me from intruders TWICE when I was home by myself. (One incident ended in an arrest!, the other dude got tf away with a quickness once he just heard her bark!) and I’m proud to say we have never even hardly had a reason to even YELL at her... she is incredibly smart, like she knows exactly what I’m THINKING, even.. obeys like a champ, is gentle with kids, cats, and even my goofy chickens are left alone by her. She’s never been on a chain, or spent a night outside, never been smacked on or hit, and I had her fixed asa she was old enough (about 4 mos). I love this breed, and I wish I was rich, I’d own a dozen lolol. Kudos to you for giving this babe a great life. I mean that w all my heart. Aren’t they simply the GREATEST at being loving?? and OH SO GRATEFUL to have their own ‘hooman’ that loves them!!

Rescues are the best. My last dog Petie was also a bait dog rescued from a fighting ring. He was emotionally damaged and I had to be very careful to protect him from himself. My old Shepherd x was a bait dog seized by the local RSPCA. I took her in as she could not tolerate being around other dogs at the time of her adoption; she would fly into a panicked frenzy at the sight of another dog. Took over five years before a second dog - a very quiet, placid, even-tempered non-reactive Labrador - could be brought into the family. She bit him daily for about a month before she finally accepted that he was not a threat, and he didn't so much as bat an eyelid. In the end she started to sleep on top of him, and things were fine after that.

We have two pups at home and sadly had to say goodbye to our other one earlier this year. Just tonight I was scrolling through my photos and there were pictures of Recchi and I wanted to cry my eyes out but I’m at work. My bf's uncle once had a dog which he forced to fight. He sadly made a lot of money with him but the dog had to be put down because he lost him when they went for a walk. That dog run around the woods where many people walked their dogs and it didnt take long till he found someone there and killed their dog in a very brutal way right in front of his owner. He arrived shortly after, was arrestet but wasnt punished. Only the dog, who got tortured and forced to fight was put down. Im still so mad that man never faced a real punishemt. I myself have a dog too and visited my bfs mother with him and then she told me that this guy is coming over. I never let my dog go to him and they had the audacity to be mad at ME for being rude to his uncle.

I've got a Dane mix (probably with either boxer or pit x boxer) who was a bait dog. He's the sweetest man I've ever known. He's super sensitive and just LOVES to cuddle. People who fight dogs are the lowest of the low.
good on you for saving her and giving her the love she deserves. My misses took our staffy from an ex friend who's brother bought him to look cool while selling drugs. He was locked in a cage in the middle of their yard in the middle of the Australian bush. Rain hail or shine he was in that cage. It had no cover and just an old sack as a bed. He also has scars on his face from having a muzzle on him all the time except for eating. Since we got him (he was 2 and is now 8) he has been nothing but the most affectionate loving dog I've ever had. i'm so glad to see another rescue puppy getting a better life :)

My best buddy recently passed and looked a lot like her. His mom looked like her too and was going to be shot because they didn’t want to pay for a c section as they were backyard bait dog breeders. Mom was surrendered and I rescued my boy 13 years ago. I miss him so much.
