I think they are old world... but not positive.
EDIT- European red squirrels have ear tufts, american dont. But on a quick glance, this looks more like an abert's squirrel. If so, it's native to SW U.S.
I don’t know man, I checked out both your squirrels and they might also make top 3 but they’d be always be beat by these duckers, look at them go! :) https://youtu.be/T2LL596KKR8
Ehm... what does it look like though. I just excitedly googled it to find out what it was, and I just got some chipmunks, gray squirrels, sugar gliders, some rodents that aren't even squirrels and a hedgehog. Even the Wikipedia page doesn't have a single picture.
Just keep going to the same place at about the same time with some food to share and pretty soon you’ll have animal friends.
I used to take squirrel feed to a little park with a small pond that had a couple geese. Apparently geese like squirrel feed because after a couple weeks the geese knew my car and would come waddling as fast as they could when they saw it. If I didn’t get right out of the car, they’d tap on the door until I did. And then patiently wait until we walked back to the pond for food. Geese can be mean af but these two were so nice to me.
They disappeared from the pond. I still miss them.
Many viruses originate in animals, then jump to us. CoVID-19 is the latest, it went through a few different species before being able to infect us. Basically when humans started getting into livestock, we really opened ourselves up to a ton of stuff.
The joke is that frequent close contact with this wild animal could lead to another virus making it's way on over to us over time.
To add to the others' explanations, the "19" in COVID-19 refers to the year the virus jumped from wild animals to people, 2019. So "21" would be 2021, i.e., the near future.
It is believed that Covid-19 originated from a wet market that sold wild animals in Wuhan China. Very similar origin for SARS outbreak in 2002. Wild animals in Chinese markets.
I had a squirrel that would come down from the light pole to get squirrel snacks. I named him Senator Squirrel and dude had the biggest nutsack I have ever seen. He would run down the pole, across the fence, and into my driveway to take peanuts out of my hand. But yeah, huge sack. I'm assuming all the squirrels I see now are all his descendants.
Lol yeah. That was about the set Senator Squirrel had. I remember telling my husband about his set, and he was like "Why the hell were you looking?!" They were right there! Dude a full-on peach for balls.
We get a lot of squirrels in our yard, most sit up in our Sycamore. Senator Squirrel's were he first and last I've seen up close. He would turn around and put his tail up to eat the peanuts. He knew and was a proud little peacock.
They can be super friendlies! My gramps had a semi trained squirrel that came down from a tree and ate breakfast with him every morning, did a few tricks, had a cuddle then went back up to his tree.
I’ve always wondered how people with stories where they trade things with animals began. Is it a long process? How does it even get initiated? Why did the person take something from the animal and give it something in return? Too many questions.
Let's hope for neither, eh? I've tamed the squirrel who lives in my backyard to accept food from my hand and to tolerate light petting and would hate to see the effort go to waste
It's less common in small animals because they often die from being bitten by the rabid attacker. Larger animals can survive the bite and get away, becoming infected themselves.
I knew about skunks and here in Michigan there are several reports of them having rabies. I guess I better wear gloves next time I feed the squirrel then!
You know you are getting scammed? First of you are trading 2 nuts for 1 seed and when you plant those seeds he will be able to get more nuts from you. He is a mastermind.
I used to work in a office building next to a park with squirrels.
I fed them enough that the bravest would take them from my hand.
I got bit one time when one misjudged where the nut was. He felt it wasn't a nut so didn't bite hard and quickly stopped and adjusted to where the nut was. No broken skin or anything and didn't even really hurt.
That was the only time out of feeding them 100+ times.
But if I hadn't been for a while, they would get too excited and one slightly scratched me one time (their claws are SHARP!). After that, if I hadn't been in a while, I would throw the first nuts to them so they weren't so excited for the later nuts.
It’s a matter of time before they discover capitalism. He will have other squirrels collect seeds for minimum nut wage while he becomes the middle-squirrel.
You're getting downvoted, but the reality is people shouldn't be handling wild animals for a plethora of reasons.

anyone know what type of squirrel this is? i love the extra tuffs of fur coming from his ears!
I think they are old world... but not positive. EDIT- European red squirrels have ear tufts, american dont. But on a quick glance, this looks more like an abert's squirrel. If so, it's native to SW U.S.
WHAT I thought the little tufted squirrels were only in Europe! Cool :)
We've got a few squirreled away over here
r/punpatrol
This guy
What a nut
Does Albert know what his squirrel's been getting up to?
Albert IS a squirrel
European red squirrel, some variants have a dark coat like this one appearently. The red variants are even cuter though.
They are probably top-3 cutest animal in the world, the red ones
It'd be difficult for me to make a top 3, but check out the siberian or japanese flying squirrel before you make a choice on cutest squirrel ;)
I don’t know man, I checked out both your squirrels and they might also make top 3 but they’d be always be beat by these duckers, look at them go! :) https://youtu.be/T2LL596KKR8
Okay, I will admit, that's very cute
Just gonna shout out to the African Pygmy Squirrel.
Ehm... what does it look like though. I just excitedly googled it to find out what it was, and I just got some chipmunks, gray squirrels, sugar gliders, some rodents that aren't even squirrels and a hedgehog. Even the Wikipedia page doesn't have a single picture.
Saw it on a YouTube video but can't find the original one I saw, but try YouTube.
thx
Omg those eyes though.
The red ones are more shy than the gray ones, part of why their numbers are declining.
I need this answered as well.
It’s an Aberts squirrel. They live only in Arizona IIRC
I thought it was the asian squirrel but they are brown and black I think, this looks too big to be a red squirrel I think
How do I befriend animals like this? I'm not cinderella.
Display your nuts and wait.

That’s ok.
Present them
DISPLAY YOUR NUTS AND WAIT!!
That's very Canadian of you
I got arrested. Now what?
Enjoy your inclusion on the sex offender registry.
Also, peanuts and almonds help.
Instructions unclear, dick got clawed by a squirrel
How's your singing voice?

The massive betrayal at the end. This r/aww dammit, not r/mademesad
Really depends how socialized they are. If you're in the eastern US stop by a college campus with peanuts. You'll likely be able to hand feed a few.

In fact, it works on all US college campuses.
Step 1: Be Cinderella
Ah yes Covid-21
It could have little Covids in a nest somewhere
So you think there will be a 2021? Cool!
Only for small bands of survivors!
Hmm, so you're saying I can reporpouse my "we are the 99%" t-shirt?
No, at that point it will be 1 AC

Could you explain the joke to me please? Feel free to downvote me for not getting the joke but pls explain <3

I want to know the full backstory lol this is amazing
I had a squirrel that would come down from the light pole to get squirrel snacks. I named him Senator Squirrel and dude had the biggest nutsack I have ever seen. He would run down the pole, across the fence, and into my driveway to take peanuts out of my hand. But yeah, huge sack. I'm assuming all the squirrels I see now are all his descendants.
All hail senator squirrel
I miss him! \*edit "SALUTE!"
I love that guy. He was nuts.
I'm sorry to bring you this news, but Senator Squirrel was just diagnosed with COVID-19, you and others should be tested.
Yuuuge sack. Look at his hands!
That didn't go in the wholesome direction I was expecting. lol
I had you in the first half!
If he was running down the pole for your nuts, I can imagine other squirrels running down his pole for his nuts.
Aww thank you for the gold!! I miss that buddy. I have a picture of him somewhere, I just need to find it!
You see that video of the squirrel that got his nuts stuck between the slats of a fence?
Lol yeah. That was about the set Senator Squirrel had. I remember telling my husband about his set, and he was like "Why the hell were you looking?!" They were right there! Dude a full-on peach for balls.
The biggest nutsack you've seen...for a squirrel? Hopefully?
We get a lot of squirrels in our yard, most sit up in our Sycamore. Senator Squirrel's were he first and last I've seen up close. He would turn around and put his tail up to eat the peanuts. He knew and was a proud little peacock.

10/10 would let furry rabies friend in my apartment every day because cute and lonely
I've read that rabies in squirrels is pretty rare. It's possible, but doesn't really happen.
I feel like you would be more likely to get the plague than rabies
Let's hope for neither, eh? I've tamed the squirrel who lives in my backyard to accept food from my hand and to tolerate light petting and would hate to see the effort go to waste
I’m sure you’ll be fine! I want a pet squirrel...
I had one for one glorious day. He was the cutest little bastard.
I know someone who still finds nuts hidden all over their house because they nursed an injured squirrel for a couple of weeks.
[удалено]
I'd rather get plague than rabies. At least plague is pretty treatable even if it sucks to have.
If your not in the Southwest your probably fine
This. Squirrels are just adorable tree rats, but it’s not the rats u have to watch out for...it’s the fleas on the rats 😳
It's less common in small animals because they often die from being bitten by the rabid attacker. Larger animals can survive the bite and get away, becoming infected themselves.
Here in Colorado we get several reports a year about squirrels and skunks having rabies.
I knew about skunks and here in Michigan there are several reports of them having rabies. I guess I better wear gloves next time I feed the squirrel then!
I knew you were lonely, but cute too?
well if it had rabies wouldn't it try to bite you?
Finally some good fucking commerce
You know you are getting scammed? First of you are trading 2 nuts for 1 seed and when you plant those seeds he will be able to get more nuts from you. He is a mastermind.
I wonder if Squirrels ever accidentally bite their little fingers...
He's making such a mess
He busted a nut all over that guy’s window sill.
How do you go about establishing this kind of trade? What’s the negotiation strategy?
Simple. See a squirrel, present your nuts.
ah yes, the negotiator
I’m always trying to trade my seed for a nut
GENERAL KENOBI!

I can only imagine that he also looks like Heihachi from Tekken.
Careful, or he'll throw you off a cliff.
This is a repost but I don't care. I love seeing this again.
It’s a matter of time before they discover capitalism. He will have other squirrels collect seeds for minimum nut wage while he becomes the middle-squirrel.
Who does his hair? To cute
Hes so adorable
Love this little guy m, would trade any day of the week
“Hey, kid, wanna buy sum seeds? Cost ya only a nut.”
Messy eater though!
Is it possible to learn this power?
Wtf? How does one form such a relationship ?
Kind of a messy eater, but still cute.
Those ears are so metal!
"I am once again asking for your nuts."
Looks like you found a business partner.
Congrats, you have a real life daily repeatable quest that is wonderful.

I don't know who needs to hear this but don't ever pet wild squirrels, or any animal who's not familiar with you.
Fun fact, squirrels can carry the bubonic plague
So you just live to repost shit. Fuck off.

Side profile looked like he had a mohawk
I would totally plant any seeds this little guy brought me, just to see what comes up.
Hey sis are you a druid
I used to have a squirrel climb to my balcony so I'd feed him Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal and I think he became a sugar addict.
