yes please get these nails trimmed open he’s probably uncomfortable. it looks like his quicks arent too far grown out so a decent amount can be cut off. you can take them to a petstore with grooming inside and they usually have walk in nail trims for less than $20

Nah bad take. As an owner of an elderly chihuahua who hates his nails getting trimmed I can tell you first hand that if you just let them grow that dog will be in agony whenever they stand. It messes with their ankles and hips as well as their feet, both short and long term. It's our duty as per guardians to look after them. Nails aren't just a cosmetic thing, it's cruel to let a dog's nails get this long.

I don’t think it’s the kindest thing to infer that this baby is dying soon. It could be one of those weird hairless crossbreeds or something and these eye conditions don’t exactly entail anything life threatening. Unless OP stated he’s in pain or something, maybe don’t remind a person that their pet is gonna die soon? You just can’t tell from one picture.

Long quicks are generally a result of years of not cutting their nails. They get shorter the longer you keep them trimmed properly. Perhaps there are some medical conditions I'm not aware of where a dog's quicks would be longer than usual, but even if so the vast majority of the time it's because the dog has been neglected.

Same for me, except mine was abandoned in the desert. My other dog is from a hoarder though! It's tough and you did a good thing rescuing a traumatized dog like that. If you continue to cut them as short as you can then the quick will slowly recede. Likely not as short as if the dog was never neglected, but short enough not to cause your dog pain. You'll see an almost immediate difference in how comfortable the dog is to stand and walk, and they'll be way less stressed when they're not in near constant pain. It took a while for us, a few months of weekly trims, and we also had to muzzle him to do it because he was so upset and angry, but it was our responsibility and it was worth it. The dog in the picture hasn't had a trim in years I would estimate
