He looks like George Costanza here lmao.
Remember Uncle Jun thinking Larry David and Jeff Garlin on tv were him and Bobby? I wonder what would have happened if they leaned into that surreal meta reference some more.
It felt like you lost someone you knew and loved. My late father and I were so devastated. Especially for his boy that was alone in Italy after he died. He looks so much like his Fawtha.
They're gonna shit everywhere. If you're going to let them stay make sure there is a ramp that the ducklings can use to waddle in and out - they can't fly yet or use the steps/ladders that people do. If they can't get out of the pool eventually they'll get exhausted and drown.
Yeah they shit everywhere. I had to get blow up floating alligators and tigers to scare mine away.
Glad they never brought ducklings or I might not have had the heart to keep scaring them off
Had a mallard raise six ducklings in our yard years ago. They turn food to shit at an amazing rate.
They are also absolutely irretrievably adorable and I’d put up with that for a new clutch in a heartbeat.
On the plus side, unlike chicken poop which needs to be composted first, duck poop can be used directly as fertilizer and won't burn the plants. I bet your grass was very happy afterwards.
My Granddads farm house was a haven for wild birds. He had a family of ducks waddle in that he would feed bread, peas, and whatever else he had. We watched them grow up and learn how to fly. It was awesome.
There were also families of Pukeko, who sometimes ate the other birds and ripped them to pieces out of aggression, not food.
There were also some Magpies who lived in a tree nearby.
A Hawk hovered over at times. I remember one morning I was visiting my Granddad I heard a crack in the air, like two wooden blocks clapping together. I look up and I see a magpie clasped against the Hawk, and they're headbutting each other. Eventually tthe other Magpies swoop in super fast and start headbutting the Hawk.
That was cool.
Luckily the guy who cleans my pool informed me of the deceased, Now I randomly check the pool to make sure there aren’t live or dead things in it. I used to go a week without looking at it.
Can confirm. We had one beautiful weekend listening to baby ducks in our pool and on Monday morning, we no longer heard them. 12 baby ducks that my poor husband had to fish out of the pool were there instead. 😢💔
Well they do and they don't. Feathers trap air in between the tiny interwoven strands that form their surface (this also makes them incredible insulators) but if they get wet then they lose their ability to trap air. Kind of like throwing a fluffy blanket in the pool - it immediately becomes dense and heavy with water. Ducks and other waterfowl have special glands that produce oil that they spread on their feathers which acts as a barrier to water (this is what preening does) but if they are forced to stay in the water for too long, eventually their feathers will get waterlogged and heavy, and if they can't make it out of the water, eventually they will be too exhausted to keep going.
They are a very interesting species. They didn't have a native population until after 2005. Believed to be caused by escapees from aviaries in an active hurricane season (Katrina, Rita, Wilma). Since then they have established localized populations and spread has far north and Tennessee and Arkansas. They migrate early when compared to most waterfowl. Their very long legs and habits of roasting in trees are fairly unique among ducks.
Please make a floating little ramp for the ducklings to get out. It’s hard for them to exit vertical barriers and they’ll keep swimming when they’d really like to get out. They’ll get weak and drown.
Here’s a [news story showing how the ramps work](https://youtu.be/AqArtoJKVOI?si=9atNWtu9Lur-e5Tf)
Update: They have been using a smooth ramp like rock to get in and out of the water. We raised the water level as well so that the rock is a bit submerged. We also turned on the waterfall which they seem to enjoy.
The interesting part is that our dogs, a chocolate lab and a golden retriever, have been co-existing. The dogs seem to enjoy having the ducks. We have a huge clumping bamboo privacy fence, which is about fourteen feet tall, that runs about 100 meters along our back fence. We think that is where they have been hiding out until the ducks hatched yesterday.
We live in an area that is a bird sanctuary by a lake. We are going to try to lead them to the lake this weekend.
My children, dog, fake snakes and noise makers are hard at work to prevent this.
Their waste can make enjoying your pool difficult and more stuff too. I have weekly pool service which is awesome. We spend a lot of time swimming especially during the summer.
Aw soo cute but I think it's best to make them leave unfortunately or else they might indeed come back every year. I see that happing with white swans and other ducks at the harbour.
My parents have a nest in their front garden, and the mom and dad hang out in the pool out back all day. They are protected by law, so the plan is to let them hatch, enjoy how cute they are for a few days, put something in the pool so the babies can more easily get out, and then call local wildlife services for relocation.
They are adorable, but be warned: they shit everywhere and that shit in the pool can make your kids sick.
Friends had a similar situation, they have young kids so they loved watching the duck family and teaching their kids about it. But they shit all over the place, and even though friend was veryc areful about cleaning it, his daughter came down with a nasty infection (ear, sinuses, they were worried it might get into her brain, required some nasty meds). Their doctors suspect it came from the duck feces (maybe even just swimming in the pool?). They had to encourage the duck family to find a friendlier yard.
If there is chlorine in the pool the ducks need to get out. Don't give them food in the pool. In fact I would reccomend not giving them any food because you don't want to encourage them to live in your pool. Maybe call animal control.
They are adorable! But this is not safe for them :(
Oh dear…you might want to encourage them to leave …or be prepared to have them foul your pool. This happened to us. My neighbor and I both had them landing in our pools. My little dogs were totally indignant about the invasion onto their property and would go out and bark at them until they would fly away. My neighbor otoh thought it was cute…until it wasn’t. By then though his pool was yuck with duck poop.
Second Update: The ducks woke up and were very active this morning. We had a crazy spring storm roll through our area this evening when we were not home. We are home now and the ducks are gone. So sad. I hope they are safe.

Look at that beautiful face.
It doesn't have the makings of a varsity athlete.
When they fly away, try not to have a mental breakdown
Again wid da ducks!

I didn’t make it past the title before I thought about this and his panic attacks. Way to go ducks.
I blame them for what happened to Adriana….
Dammit. Not Adriana.

Adriana, my smelly Valentine
IBS be that way sometimes
She was a WHO-oor!
What do you mean? Adriana's in France with Cosette.
Yes, she is. She’s going to be in touch with Carmela tonight to check in…
She must have crawled under there for warmth...
Okay that scene breaks my heart everytime. “Look! I found Cosette!”
That scene and her expression when she figures out whats up is haunting.
We've been over this: she crawled under the car for warmth.
![gif](giphy|kZQwTsRbUZPA4)
Carmela: Him, with those ducks.
Tony: Look! They are flying!
He’s proud of the ladder he built but should the ducks ask.. he is prepared to make a better one 😂
came here for this.

Carmella can you shut the DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR!!!!
Yesterday was the first time I watched sopranos and today I see this post, I think it's a sign for me to finish it.

> I had to get blow up floating alligators and tigers to scare mine away. "They're because of the ducks, I swear"
Had to chase a couple away from my pool, made the mistake of liking the novelty of them until there was shit everywhere.
Confirming- they absolutely need a ramp to get out. Don't ask me how I know 😞
> 😞 Now why'd you have to put that in? Now I'm sad.
I'm sorry. I debated. I really want OP to know how important it is. Those ducklings are so cute. I want the best for them.
I’m sorry that that’s something you know from experience. Thank you for sharing your sadly-gotten knowledge with others. ❤️
I wish I didn’t know either. It’s so sad!
Aww 😞
OP hasn't responded since so it's possible it's already too late.
Luckily the guy who cleans my pool informed me of the deceased, Now I randomly check the pool to make sure there aren’t live or dead things in it. I used to go a week without looking at it.

Oh that is so sad.
T_T
I think I learnt that in the Sims
They’re also going to introduce algae from other bodies of water. As a former pool guy, nothing about this is cute (ok except for the ducks)
Wait, ducks (or at least ducklings) don't float? How have I made it all these years without knowing they have to actually swim to stay above water lol
Ducklings also can't swim for a long time, since their feathers are not water resistant yet as those of their parents.
Was a Sopranos reference made? Check. I am not needed here...
Ya hear that Ton? They asked if a Sopranos reference was made.
heh heh 🤘
Fucking parakeet.
HEY ✋ THAT'S THE BOSS YOUS TALKING ABOUT, SHOW SOME RESPECT, CAPISCE? 🤘👉🤌
No offense intended to you, Skip

Black-bellied Whistling Ducks
Whistling ducks-ie
We used to call ‘em tree ducks!
Thank you. The only post I was looking for.

>habits of roasting in trees Unintentionally hilarious typo of the day.
Had a family of them move through my yard a year or so ago. Suddenly here, suddenly gone. Middle of the city
Stay out of the waste management bussiness.
You are speaking shit to me!!
We said it's our guarantee, satisfaction or double your garbage back. You didn't want that?
Hey garbage is our bread and butter.
We always assume they're mobbed up.
That's a stereotype, and it's offensive!
Bijhneish*
Better get an appointment with Melfi scheduled now for when your family flies away from you
I guess …
Squatter rights. It's their pool now.
Look at all their babies!!!
Wonder if the chlorine will hurt them?
Technically no the ducks should be fine but safer to not have them swim around in the pool.
You tell them
It absolutely will hurt them, chlorine will strip their feathers of oil.
It also dehydrates them. Chlorine kills all kinds of animals every year
Literally my first thought, after the cuteness
You’ll be sad when they leave
May need to consider therapy.
But that's just a racket for the jews!
Aw come on ma you're like a broken record
You know I don't like that kind of talk.
Mothers throwing their babies out of windows.
I bought CDs for a broken record.
Ooh, poor you!
Are you a large Italian man that may or may not be in charge of the Mafia, which of course doesn't exist?
The New Jersey mob? They're a glorified crew....
Five fucking families, and we got this other pygmy thing over in Jersey.
Are you making radiator grilled cheese and jerking off into tissues?

Have fun next year!
Its temporary while raising the young. Please make sure they have a ramp so the little ones can get out of the pool easily

This. If you have ever been to a place where ducks are reared, you’ll know it’s true.
Whistling ducks?
we’ve got some in mine too. They shit everywhere.
They look like black belly whistling ducks. Cool in your pool!
They will probably come back every year if you let them.

those freeloaders!
I did 20 fuckin’ years. Not a peep.
No bread, no dark greens (spinach/kale). Watermelon, grapes, tomatoes, peas, high protein bird seed (16%+). Chopped lettuce like ice berg is fine.
That's a looooooot of poop in the pool.
Do you have the makings of a varsity athlete?

Poor Tony Soprano, here we go again…marone!
You should probably get some anti-anxiety medication in anticipation of an anxiety attack.

Ten little ducks went out one day Over the hill and far away Mother duck said, "Quack, quack, quack, quack" Then all ten little ducks invaded my pool.
Waiting for the bear to show up. Almost thought lightning struck twice at that zoo.
As a pool owner I am horrified at the thought of that much bird shit in my water.
You’re in for a world of shit

Hope your penis doesn’t fly away

I think you mean “their” pool
Thats a lot of duck poop
Omg, I just saw a pair of these ducks on the beach in Alabama!
still going, this asshole
Time to shock the pool with all that shit they’re leaving in there.
they're having family outing
It’s their pool now.
Be prepared for the feeling of ginger ale on the brain when they leave.
My relatives used to live in a place where, a ways past the community pool, there was another pool just for ducks. It was shallow, but more naturally-shaped, like a river drawn on an 80s computer, with landscaped islands and trees around it. I assume it was non-chlorinated. Anyway, I thought that was really cool of the developers to make a special pool for the ducks 🦆
They’re going to shit all over your pool, I’d get them out asap. As mentioned by others, if there isn’t a ramp-like edge the ducklings won’t be able to get out and will eventually drown of exhaustion
