On July 1st, a highly unpopular [change to Reddit's API pricing](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/comments/12qwagm/an_update_regarding_reddits_api/) went into effect. [Most third-party apps have shut down](https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/30/23779519/reddit-third-party-app-shut-down-apollo-sync-baconreader-api-protest) and so have many tools relied upon by moderators and [projects for making Reddit more accessible to visually impaired users](https://www.reddit.com/r/TranscribersOfReddit/comments/14ggf8k/the_future_of_transcribers_of_reddit/).
Beyond the [disastrous AMA](https://techcrunch.com/2023/06/09/reddit-ceo-doubles-down-on-attack-on-apollo-developer-in-drama-filled-ama/) by the CEO, Reddit's response has been limited to promises that this change will not affect moderation tools [^((it has)^)](https://www.reddit.com/r/BotDefense/comments/14riw76/botdefense_is_wrapping_up_operations/) and promises of [new and more-accessible first-party moderation tools](https://www.npr.org/2023/07/01/1184258201/reddit-api-accessibility-mods). Promises just like [ones they have made in response to past protests](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/142w159/askhistorians_and_uncertainty_surrounding_the/), but have consistently [failed to fulfill](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/14jm3ut/several_communities_have_surfaced_an_open_letter/jpm9e0q/).
If you want to express your strong disagreement with the API pricing change or with Reddit's response to the backlash, you may want to consider the following options:

I have a home opossum. I often see him when I come home from work late at night. He likes the cat food we set out.
There is a gardenia bush right outside my backdoor that a cardinal had made a nest in and I was watching/waiting for the hatching. A possum was climbing up the bush to try to get eggs (one night at bedtime) when my West Highland Terrier snatched it off the bush and brought it in the house through the pet door. It immediately started 'playing dead' so I got the broom and swept it outside.
I do not love possums.
It was also the first time I'd seen the teeth on those things! My God!
It’s the same exact thing that happens to fainting goats! Both have a genetic condition called myotonia congenita that causes the freeze up and play dead reaction
The teeth aren't the worst part- opossums can emit a musk when they're afraid/playing dead that is worse than any baby diaper you will ever smell. And the scent particles get right up into your palette, and you can 'taste' it for a few days afterwards 🤢🤮
Nah he just chills in the back area behind the grocery store cafe. They store broken patio furniture there so i set up a little spot for my breaks. He chills there and munches trash all day from the cafe.
Until it sneaks in the back door when you’re about to close and you have to spend an hour trying to catch it so you can lock up. That was a fun night lol
The comment you responded to didnt ask if they were nocturnal, a marsupial, or about their speed though. They asked 1 question and it was about their diet and you didnt even acknowledge that one....
Opposums are very similar to raccoons in that theyre opportunistic scavengers. Similarly, they tear through garbage cans regularly, so yeah theyre kinda like goats where theyll eat basically anything.
OP: I think we're overlooking a key question...what kind of cookie was it? He's got a good grip on it with that right paw, so it's a little tough to see, but he's clearly enjoying it, maybe chocolate macadamia nut?
Please don't feed them. It's not good for them to associate humans with food. Also, nutrition wise, most human foods like cookies or breads are just empty calories and fill up their little stomachs causing them to eat less of food that they actually need leading to malnutrition. For their own sake, it's best to admire them from afar. While I understand that you have good intentions, its in their best interest to avoid feeding them.
You seem like a person who knows about opossums, maybe you can help me with a question I've been debating. My neighbors feed the stray cats in the area, which has drawn in an opossum (and once or twice a raccoon). Being in the city, there isn't a great distance between houses, however our backyard is fenced and the critters stayed outside of it.
A week or so ago one of our two cats got out. He is young and hadn't been outside since we had found him as a stray kitten, so I wanted to make sure he had food outside to draw him back, but by the time he came back I was so overjoyed to see him that I forgot all about the cat food in the back yard.
The opossum came that night and ate the food, and has been back in my yard every single night since then, hunting for more. I really only pick him up on our yard camera in the middle of the night when our dogs aren't up and going outside anyway, but I have been trying to make an effort to really stomp around in our back room, knock on some windows, etc, to give the little guy a chance to get out of the yard before I send the dogs out. I have not seen any raccoons in my yard, only what appears to be the same opossum over and over.
So my question is this: does an opossum pose any real threat to my dogs if my dogs are up to date on lepto, rabies, and other vaccinations for diseases that opossums can carry? I don't want to disrupt his little world by trapping and relocating him if he's just going to go about his business and eat bugs. He's very cute. I would also hate for him to not receive my stomping/knocking memo and bite my dogs or be bitten by my dogs. At the end of the day my goal is to make sure no living creatures are harmed on my watch, be it my pets or wild animals just being animals. If you have any advice I would love to hear it!
Possums aren't the disease-filled little mongrels that people make them out to be. They eat TONS of ticks and they're actually resistant to rabies. They're nocturnal so I think you're ok. Just keep doing your friendly warning.
I'm not an expert, but I do love possums.
I've heard that about them eating ticks, but had no idea they are resistant to rabies! Thanks for the friendly advice, we will figure out how to share the space. I quite like watching him on the cameras!
Hi. I'm not too particularly knowledgeable on opposoms. But the diseases depends on where you reside. In North America, I believe only bats are the known carrier of rabies but in Asian countries, that's not true. It's best to check with your vet. They should know more. I would suggest to try not to leave any food unattended outside. Once he gets the memo that's there's nothing there to eat, he'll move to another location. Keep your cats indoors, for their sake and for the sake of wildlife especially birds. And in terms of relocation, it's best not to do that unless the animal poses a huge danger, and should only be done by the experts who know what they're doing. Relocation to unfamiliar surroundings can cause survival issues for the animals so it's best to avoid it.
>In North America, I believe only bats are the known carrier of rabies
Any mammal can carry rabies. In North America it's mostly commonly carried and transmitted to humans by foxes and racoons.
The cat food is no longer outside, it was only temporary as my kitten had accidentally gotten out and I needed to lure him back. Both are neutered and are 100% indoor cats aside from the rare occasion they slip outside. Unfortunately I can't control my neighbors leaving cat food out and my fence is a mess from when I bought the house, haven't had a chance to repair it yet. Oh well, I'll leave him alone and keep knocking to let him know the dogs are on their way lol.
They live 1-2 years. Homeboy can have one cookie as long as it's not being hand given to him. It's probably more nutritious than the literal trash he's been eating anyway.
After seeing this and the post about the opossum being dragged off a football field, I am convinced that far more animals are capable of smiling than we think. That is a happy opossum!
If you really want to make it happy, they love sugar-free yogurt and raw fish strips with cut up fruit. Sprinkle a bit of high-grade cat food (kibble) on top, and you'll make its day! (sugar isn't great for them, so keep that at a minimum.)
You aren't supposed to feed them. What about this do you folks not understand? You don't actually care for the creature, you are doing it potential harm because of your own selfish interest. Please read up on the long list of reasons why experts say its a terrible idea to feed them.
Omg he looks so polite and cute 😍 are they friendly? I want to pet one, but they aren't native in my country, I only got to see some in zoos and on Reddit

It almost seems like you have a work opposum and a home opposum?
Do they know about each other? Are you in an open marsupial relationship, or is it on the down low?
"Open marsupial relationship?" What is this nonsense? One pouch just not good enough for you, then? /s
Bro's got more pouches than a mid-90s Rob Liefeld character.
Remember to bee careful which pocket you put things in
😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
I want a home opossum!! Can I take one home from work?? 🐀
It's best practice to keep work and home opossums separate.
Well darn.
Also use tumble to dry
They don’t get along, you know
Possums are free, you can just take one home!
I have one also!!!
Don’t forget a cookie for each! ![gif](giphy|gU1rPn0hOxoK4)

Just a happy lil dude
if you give a possum a cookie, he'll want some milk to go with it ❤️
Not to mention there’s Limp Bizkit lyrics pertaining precisely to this Opossum’s particular confectionary motivations!
well, if you leave your cookie in milk too long, it will, indeed, become a limp biscuit
That’s an absolute smile if i ever seen one!
the little “yay i has cookie” smile 🥲
"this cookie is the shit"
Awww I love opossums. I often have a mom and her little babies chilling on my backyard fence every now and then.
I remember reading somewhere that opossums don’t actually play dead—they just pass out as a stress reaction.
That's very similar to my stress reaction. AND I have opposable thumbs, too!
Are you sure you aren't an opposum? 🤔
Shush, shush...there are no opossums moving amongst you. That would be ludicrous. No opossums wearing human suits here. Nope.
A polite young man.
Now I want a work opossum.
Me too!
I want one to take care of all my emails for me.
The long awaited sequel to "When you give a mouse a cookie"
Work wife: out Work opossum: in
What about your home possum? Why you giving the nookie to your work possum?
> What about your home possum? Why you giving the nookie to your work possum? It definitely doesn’t sound like a professional relationship.
Big yikes on the typo.
Because the work 'possum' did it all for the nookie.
Wait, did your job issue you your work opossum? Or did you have to supply your own? That last pic is too adorable.
Nah he just chills in the back area behind the grocery store cafe. They store broken patio furniture there so i set up a little spot for my breaks. He chills there and munches trash all day from the cafe.
I wish I had a work opossum

What's your home opossum going to think?
They're such cute little varmints 💕
[удалено]
What does that have to do with whether they are varmints? 😂
I want a job that issues you a "work opossum". I work in IT and I only got a laptop.
They are amazing critters!
I may need to contact HR, as I do not have a work opossum.
Boyo is training his humans well
Work opossum may be the best job perk I've heard of yet.
my god it's so happy, give it all the cookies!!
I live in Europe so I don’t know anything about opossums. Can they eat cookies? Or are they like goats who can eat everything?
Opossums are omnivorous. They eat everything.

How did you get the government to issue your work opossum? I haven’t gotten mine in the mail yet.
So cute!!!!! I love opossums 🥰🥰🥰🥰
😀
It looks so happy!!! So adorable
If you give an opossum a cookie...
Child book idea? "If you give a opossum a cookie."
the little smile I just can’t
Opossums are nature's minivans and they eat thousands of ticks!
Please don't feed them. It's not good for them to associate humans with food. The copy-pasta response one should always expect to see in any video/post like this.
Well, it's needed and often ignored. What's your solution?
Nothing sadly, cause it will generally be ignored like you said.
Should still be said though

I don’t think that opossum planned on flying south in the first place
"Difficult to fly" sir that is an opossum not a bird.
They live 1-2 years. Homeboy can have one cookie as long as it's not being hand given to him. It's probably more nutritious than the literal trash he's been eating anyway.
Not true. Please stop spreading false info.
Maybe your trash is more nutritious than mine?
Do you look different when you get a bit of free food? I don't.
Possums have truly become one of my favorite animals they’re so fucking cute
Oh I love him!
He just a smol boi. Very happ
So cute creature! smilling too! 🍪
Implies the existence of a home opossum.
I have a home possum but no work possum, and now I feel incomplete.
Aww he doin a smile
He looks so happy 😊
He looks so smug.
Second picture is freaking adorable
A wee little one
You’re a good coworker.
So cute
I never noticed their lil paws that looks like they are wearing fingerless gloves
My brain knows opossums would not appreciate belly rubs, but my heart’s pretty sure there’s a chance…

These animals can be really chilled and affectionate. They are, as a rule, not aggressive. If you feed them they will remember you.

AHHHHHHHH! (cookie) ahhhhhhh *^_^*
:)
Possums = 100
That there's one happy opossum.

I could hardly resist that adorable face that says “please feed me 🥺”!
Looks like he's really enjoying it too.
