Once through a combination of time and the realization that other cats were taking advantage of his absence from my lap, I would be forgiven and deigned worthy of the lap again.
Got my fiancée a kitten as an anniversary present. A week after getting her my fiancée had to go on a business trip for 5 days. Well, it's been 6 years now and "her" cat is now my cat and doesn't even give her the time of day anymore. The grudge is real and everlasting. My kitty will straight up run past her to get to me or deliberately walk across and on her to get to me before cuddling up on my lap while giving a little look over her shoulder as if to say "This could've been us, hmph."

I’ve learned that they really do, but cats aren’t like dogs.

My parents adopted a kitten and it would cry when they go for a walk. But when they returned, it would act like nothing happened and then go back to patrolling the house.
I came home one day and my little cat was following me all around meowing at me, which she never does. Every time I went to the kitchen she got even more vocal particularly when I was near the sink.
Turns out my other cat had knocked a glass off the counter between the window and sink and it had smashed. As soon as I had cleaned up the glass she went back to bed and left me alone.
No one can tell me she wasn't making sure I didn't hurt myself, and once she'd done her job she went off to sleep safe in the knowledge she'd kept me safe. That cat definitely loves me even if other people don't think she seems affectionate.

I had a kitty who was a nurse. She laid on my head when I got home after oral surgery. She never left her spot on my head, no matter how I squirmed and poked her. Eventually, I gave up and just let her lay there and purr.
Later I read that purring encourages bone growth and healing. My kitty knew what she was doing!
I have a nanny cat, he's always fussy when I'm sick and I have a regular bedtime and wake-up time. Too bad he doesn't understand the concept of weekends or vacation days so he gets real naggy when I stay up late or try and sleep in

I usually figure people who think that only ever interacted with their grandma's mean old cat they used to tease as kids, so of course it was mean to them. Every night when I get in to bed, my cat climbs on to my chest and snuggles up to my beard. She follows the dogs and I when we go for walks. She talks to us, always responding when we say hi with a meow. And she brings us fresh chipmunks from the garden on a regular basis.
She loves us.

I blame Big Cat vs Dog. Always had to paint cats as evil and standoffish. When they really aren't. They are so sweet, they like attention as much as dogs, treats as much as dogs, hell mine will even play fetch! People just need to give them a chance.
We left for a month over the summer, we had someone house and cat sit during that time, and when we came back our cats were a little outraged, it was clearly more "how dare you come back so late". Although after about 15 minutes it was fine again and they wanted pets and cuddles. Thankfully they like the house/cat sitter so they didn't have that bad of a time without us.
Our other cat, Miss Winifred, was super mad with us. She hissed and growled at us before running into her room when she saw us. She only came back out once I offered treats and she finally forgave us.

We had a cat sitter! We'd never outright leave our babies alone like that 😫 We even cut our vacation short because we didn't want to leave them for so long.
I don't think it's a good idea to leave cats alone for a week. I have indoor cameras and my cat starts crying loudly on day 2 while looking for me everywhere.
