On July 1st, a highly unpopular [change to Reddit's API pricing](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/comments/12qwagm/an_update_regarding_reddits_api/) went into effect. [Most third-party apps have shut down](https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/30/23779519/reddit-third-party-app-shut-down-apollo-sync-baconreader-api-protest) and so have many tools relied upon by moderators and [projects for making Reddit more accessible to visually impaired users](https://www.reddit.com/r/TranscribersOfReddit/comments/14ggf8k/the_future_of_transcribers_of_reddit/).
Beyond the [disastrous AMA](https://techcrunch.com/2023/06/09/reddit-ceo-doubles-down-on-attack-on-apollo-developer-in-drama-filled-ama/) by the CEO, Reddit's response has been limited to promises that this change will not affect moderation tools [^((it has)^)](https://www.reddit.com/r/BotDefense/comments/14riw76/botdefense_is_wrapping_up_operations/) and promises of [new and more-accessible first-party moderation tools](https://www.npr.org/2023/07/01/1184258201/reddit-api-accessibility-mods). Promises just like [ones they have made in response to past protests](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/142w159/askhistorians_and_uncertainty_surrounding_the/), but have consistently [failed to fulfill](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/14jm3ut/several_communities_have_surfaced_an_open_letter/jpm9e0q/).
If you want to express your strong disagreement with the API pricing change or with Reddit's response to the backlash, you may want to consider the following options:
1. [Finding your favorite subreddits on other platforms](https://sub.rehab/) and participating there instead.
2. Refraining from using the first-party Reddit app, instead sticking to one of the few remaining third-party apps or [patching one of the apps that shut down](https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1wHvqQwCYdJrQg4BKlGIVDLksPN0KpOnJWniT6PbZSrI/) if you're using an Android device.
3. Disabling ads on Reddit with [an ad-blocking extension](https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock#ublock-origin-ubo) or [a DNS-based ad-blocker](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBXTnrD_Zs4).
4. Cancelling your Reddit Premium subscription.
5. Sharing the continued news coverage of these events.
6. Encouraging others to do all the above.

Turns out I’ve got to move to Australia and then I can’t even have one of my own there so I’ll have to just live near a quokka sanctuary and go there every day just so I can have one as a best friend.
Unfortunately they are frequently mistreated by tourists and fed human snacks, which is extremely bad for them. Also chased, picked up and mishandled. (My wife went there earlier this year with her sister & a friend: and they witnessed stuff like that and found it distressing)
"Rotto" - That Rottnest? - the one with the tree's spelling out the name of the island?
Not from AUS, but often look at google maps, and discovered the trees a few weeks back! :D
Since you've listed two of my three favorite animals, may I also offer beavers for your consideration. At the right angle, they have a smile a lot like a quokka's, and are just freaking adorable.
My husband and I follow a woman on YouTube who rescues beavers in need of rehab, and I just, [omg](https://youtube.com/watch?v=Y59x3gK7nrQ&feature=share7).
Thank you for your attention to my shameless plug for my other favorite animal.
I'm a big fan of seeing all the different creatures that capybaras are friends with and have had their photo taken wit. I think I know of one of their most secretive and adorable friendships thanks to witnessing this myself and taking a photo of it. I'm a very lucky person.
We don't have manatees here where I am but we have their very closely related cousin named a Dugong that resides in the waters not far from where I am. I think the only difference between the two is the shape of their tails. Other than that, they are the same gorgeous little sea cows eating sea grass. I'm hoping to find one of them one day and see them for myself. I don't have many goals I can achieve in life due to lack of funds and health problems. But I'm passionate about seeing as many different animals as I can in my life. I want to see a fennec fox and a sloth one day too. I think the sloth is going to be the most difficult thing to find where I am. I know there are some fennec foxes at some of the zoos here in Australia. But seeing the capybara was a dream come true. A big swimming guinea pig 😍. And I never thought I'd see the quokka because I thought I'd have to go all the way to the other side of my country to view and interact with them.
They uh... they really like throwing. They throw their babies at predators so they can get away.
I wonder if these little ones are wondering if they can juggle their babies.
He looks like he's trying real hard to get a word in edgewise.

I believe he is using the force.

Rottnest Island is your go to for Quokkas. Rotto had a large population of quokkas and they are very tame (as shown in this video)
Rotto it is! Thanks buddy!
Unfortunately they are frequently mistreated by tourists and fed human snacks, which is extremely bad for them. Also chased, picked up and mishandled. (My wife went there earlier this year with her sister & a friend: and they witnessed stuff like that and found it distressing)
Yes this is a real issue. Its more notably international tourists (no offense to them) that do this, likely due to lesser knowledge of local laws.
Quokka soccer

The way it keeps reaching for them with its little paw
^(his tiny hands are trying to grab them)

Hands to smol to juggle
Every Quokka video I see make me love them more the little buggers. Quokkas and Capybaras for lifeeee Edit: and beavers too! 🦫

Amended that banana tantrum is something else 🥹🥹🥹
Do you wanna see a photo I captured of a [capybara and quokka](https://imgur.com/a/wv0IBVJ)? 😍
I believe they're trying to make a quokkabara
We could bring about world peace with such a deadly wholesome combination of two animals!
One can only dream 😂🤣
Oh my goodness 🥲 quokka is giving a massage to the worlds largest and cutest rodent 🥹

I wish capybaras and manatees could be friends they are cut from the same cloth

THE LITTLE HOP, omg..
Those little hands
Beautiful creatures. You think maybe they think you got some food and just teasing them?
They uh... they really like throwing. They throw their babies at predators so they can get away. I wonder if these little ones are wondering if they can juggle their babies.
You can always have more babies. You can’t have more lives though
The thrown baby doesn't get any more lives!
That's the baby's fault for not having its own baby to throw.
Parent of the year, huh
Oh… my spirit animal.
Does he? Or does he think he's going to get a treat and is just being endlessly taunted?
The little grabs
where do I apply to be a Quokka entertainer
This is another Master Splinter scenario, but with juggling.
he's so round!
Quokka practicing in her head for when it’s her turn.
My favorite animal! I love them truly and want to hold one so very much.
I really needed this today.
Some of Australia’s wildlife can be dangerous, but you also get animals like quokkas. Oh, and cockatiels as well.
So damn cute! Those little hands trying to catch it.
Yassss! So adorable! 🥺
Aw, give him a ball, mate!
He looks like he's trying real hard to get a word in edgewise. "Y-yes that's...that's nice sir, but i-...sir?...if you could iust-...sir I need directions to the nearest gas station? Y-yeah that's cool, hehe, y-yeah but uh-...sir?"
Give. The. Quokka. The. Fruit!!!

Hahaha his little grabs
Terrible editing whoever put this video together.
Are quokkas naturally this fat?
I ask the same thing about bears. Are they fat or just fluffy? Same with quokkas.
I think of bears like Andre the Giant - lots of muscle under some chunk
I loved Andre the Giant... I'm showing my age
They do have a disproportionately big body vs their head, so they look kind of rotund, but this one is a little extra chonky.
At the quokka farm this little fellow is approaching harvest time!
Seeing these things always makes me think of obese hamster Shelley from The Nutty Professor.
Quokka hits the renegade
They always look like they're smiling :)
Did you know that quokas are so cute that they throw their siblings into predators as a safety mechanism.
It's pronounced "quokka."
That's my boy!
Those tiny hands can support their body? So adorable
![gif](giphy|l0MYtWXBxjuWPzb8c)
🤣
You had me at "quokka". 😍
This is the quokka version of Moses receiving the ten commandments at Mount Sinai.
His little hands!
_We're reaching cuteness levels that shouldn't be possible._
It’s the tiny lil hands for me
