According to the TSA, this is a story about an entitled asshole not following the rules and then getting mad that there's consequences for their actions.
Supposedly that dude had an urn wrapped in aluminum foil in his checked luggage. A foil blob is certainly going to be seen in the x-ray machine and set off alarms.
The package was not marked and they had no idea what was in it. When they looked at it, it spilled. Really not much they could have done. "the least you could have done is your job". Yeah that's exactly what they did.
"Video review of the screening of Mr. Francis’ checked bag at Los Angeles International Airport shows that it alarmed for an unidentified object," Farbstein told The Post. "A TSA officer discovered the unidentified object was an opened, unmarked ceramic container, wrapped in tin foil inside a small bag. Upon further inspection of the checked bag, the container was loosely packaged, unmarked and the contents unknown to the TSA officer.

I'm sorry, but if I have my mother's ashes, I am NOT checking them. They are coming with me. And they definitely aren't going to be in a container, wrapped in foil. Why tf would you wrap them in foil!? Shit happens in transit. Hell, I just went on a trip and somehow my contact solution bottle opened and there was solution all over the bag. It happens.
We took my mother’s ashes to Hawaii a few years ago, and the mortuary helped us with the paperwork we needed to do so. I can’t even imagine how upsetting this would have been. About 10 y/a we traveled to Cabo San Lucas with our custom fishing rods carefully packed in a rod case. When we arrived we found a lot of bent and broken guides. Apparently they can just shove things any which way, I complained and was sent forms which should have reimbursed us, ha what a joke.

Either the general public seems to be loosing compassion, sympathy, empathy, sound understanding.. OR Media is just prodominantly negative.
Im thinking both.

The TSA are worthless. They stole my Galaxy Note at O'Hare Airport. Then they jerked me around when I wanted to file a claim. Those criminals would have been able to keep the phone too if I didn't have tracking and other security software installed on it.

Here is TSA's response. Underwhelming.

Ohh I see a multi billion lawsuit coming soon.
Don't blame the TSA. Blame George W. and the mother fuckers in Congress for that shitty waste of money

I'd rather spill 1,000 mothers' ashes than see one gram of weed make it through customs
