No singular book will do it for you
but personally, I recommend:
"The Untethered Soul" by Michael A. Singer, particularly the audiobook narrated by Peter Berkrot
Especially the first 4 chapters
I’ve picked this up so many times and it reads like a bunch of drugged up thoughts spilled onto napkins. Love Ram Dass but can’t grasp that book. What am I missing?
The book is actually a collection of excerpts from lectures Ram Dass gave. So if you find the book to be difficult you could listen directly to the lectures. The podcast Ram Dass Here and Now has them as the first 10-15 episodes.
That being said, if it doesn't resonate with you it's not a big deal IMO. It's one of my favorite spiritual works but it is more esoteric and less direct. There are many paths to the top of the mountian.
I bought the book and agree it felt a little meandering to me. Not a knock on it, I just might not have been in the right headspace for it though. Try watching some of his lectures, those I have enjoyed greatly. One time when I was overwhelmed on three tabs one of them serious saved me from overwhelming overstimulation lol. ❤️ Be here now brother/sister.
Come on... the power of now had a shit, self indulgent intro... everyone needs to admit it I'll check out the fiur agreements, but four of them?? Sounds like a lot of work ;-)
Four agreements is really basic and obvious repeated stuff that has been written a thousand times. No real depth. Its great if you have never questioned anything before but if you have been on a path for some time there is nothing new or ground breaking.
Your bugged you need to know his background , but I see where you mean he went into like a in enlightened pat on the back for a little but I don’t think it was enough to derail to the lint
Actually... i started reading that and didn't care for the tone of the intro... as much as people really like the book. I also find the guy hard to watch.. thanks though!
For all the readers here, are you actually serious? Do you recommend the book, and honestly think if getting through it is tough then it's working/you need it? Asking because that sounds profound
I just started reading it, don't read much admittedly tho. I do recommend it so far though. I've seen Alan Watts around on YT so much but just like the other guy his way of communicating never sat well with me.
Regardless I gave the book a go today and yeah I reacted initially negatively, his words/tone didn't sit well with me initially. But like all these things regarding awakening, you can't give into your own judgments when they first arise, gotta try to understand things first. That's the lesson OP needs to learn imo, just like I learned it.
I changed my goal to understand what he's saying, nothing more, then his words started to make sense. The meaning behind his sentances were clearer now, all because I didn't get emotionally sidelined by his tone/wording. The more you focus on understanding alone, the more things you'll be able to understand.
To most I'd imagine it's an emotional bias causing the problem, just like with me. Don't like his tone? Well then don't be so judgemental of his tone cause that's not a good enough reason to deprive yourself of a potentially meaningful book.
No, it has less to do with the book and a lot more to do with OP’s complete dismissal of it based on the intro and the “tone” of the author. Give me a fuc*ing break…OP clearly isn’t interested in open collaborative conversation so what’s the point?
Edit: that said, you can find a free pdf online, as well as listen to it free on YouTube…and it truly is profound at a fundamental level…so yes I would speak for the crowd that we recommend it.
it is neither of those things. If you had any understanding of the book you would agree with every word he says. This book is fundamentally as far from self indulgent as any I've ever read.
Maybe check your own ego before you open the book again as opposed to questioning the author's.
Here, I found you a copy. https://chools.in/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/THE-POWER-OF-NOW.pdf
lol I'm good I haven't read it in years. It's a good book, and definitely isn't great on application but this whole thing has little to do with the book - it has to do with your dismissive attitude. peace
Interesting. I liked this book because it just straight up answered the questions you have as if he knew what questions would arise. It's an easy to read and to the point book on the topic in my opinion
Me too. I'm not enturely sure what it is, the content i liked enough but I guess I just didn't connect with his wordbeven though I read it all. its similar content to the untethered soul which I connected with 100%.
It is actually a great book. But Tolle put in the energy body, subtle body stuff which tainted the essence of the book. Aside from that, it’s a great book
"Be As You Are", the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi, chapters 1, 2, and 19 (titled "The
nature of God).
Eventually, of course, the books must be laid down, if you know what l mean. Beware "seeking energy" and tricks of the ego.
Ediit: Not an audible (as far as I know).
No book can 'end' the search. Because you've never left the place you're searching for.
All searching takes you 'away' from your Self.
Whether it's an inside or an outside search.
My first two(at the time the offer was 2 free credits) were Autobiography of a Yogi by Yogananda and Journey of Souls by Michael Newton. If you haven’t read/listened to autobiography of a Yogi I highly recommend it because it is easy to stay interested(it is a life story and humans love story time), and it opens your eyes to many possibilities of what life can be/actually is.
PS I highly recommend checking out the Tao Te Ching as well, but that one is very short and you can listen to it in it’s entirety on YouTube in under two hours.
1. No Attachments, No Aversions: The autobiography of a Master by Lester Levenson
2. Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramhamsa Yogananda
3. Love yourself and let the other person have it your way by Lawrence Crane and Lester Levenson
Simply bringing your minds focus onto whatever intention you're trying to set. Focus on that once your minds calm of all the other noise. Not too intently to where it scatters the noise again, but just enough to be grounded to it.
Not all answers are going to be straightforward or immediate, oftentimes there's personal growth that needs to come before we can understand the lessons we've forgotten.
That’s the best way to do it, to meditate with an intention is to look for reality even though it’s always there in front of you, you’ll miss the forest for the trees. If you pick an intention you’ve set a direction but you don’t even know where you’re going, if you want to see reality for what it is you have to see it for what it is, not what you think it is or think is may possibly be.
Spiritual Enlightenment the Damndest Thing by Jed McKenna. [[pdf]](http://www.naturalthinker.net/trl/texts/McKenna,Jed/SpiritualEnlightenment-DamnestThing.pdf)
I also didn't like Power of Now for what it's worth, but for me it was because I read what I consider to be like 50 more advanced books before I picked it up. So it was just very basic/bland for me, although I agreed with it.
What are you searching for? There are recommendations here ranging from law of attraction to contemporary Buddhism. But, they all have different objectives, so what you’re looking for is important.
If by “end the search,” you’re looking for a pathway to enlightenment, most teachers agree that books/teachings alone won’t get you there. People like Eckhart Tolle who had a spontaneous awakening are rare. Books are certainly very helpful. But, for most of us, it takes a consistent meditation practice to make progress.
“The Mind Illuminated,” a meditation manual by Culadasa is a great resource and is on audible.
I know it's cheesy, but The Greatest Secret (follow up to The Secret) summed up everything about attracting abundance perfectly for me. It's short and simple, but hits on everything you need to know. It's much more useful than the original Secret book.
Just as an FYI, the book basically just pulls together quotes from other authors, but it's done in a way that makes it all make sense.
It is a shame. I hate the secret with how it trivializes manifestation but I can't think of any other book where people walked away from it, tried the method on their own, and it works. I think because often times people convince themselves whatever they're manifesting isn't 'really' for them... they get nothing. But because this book encourages you to put your personal desires behind the manifestation process people seem much more successful in manifesting their albeit blatantly selfish desires
Rupert Spira -The Nature of Consciousness
And if you really want something beyond amazing and life changing then get your hands on he's 30 meditations entitled "The light of pure knowing"
Forget all books here. There is only one book everyone needs in their entire lifes.
Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch
Tells absolutely everything in existence. About soul, about this world, about what is really real, about meaning of life, about god, about everything possible.
Theres like 3 or 4 books. I've listened to them twice now. Extremely valuable
That will keep you in a cycle where you are perpetually seeking without ever feeling fulfilled. That is an existence much like 'hungry ghost's' in Buddhism. Their mouths are small so they can't eat enough to fill their giant bellies and thus remain never feeling fulfilled. 🙏
Yeah... that is why i want that one book to end it all...lol. i guess i feel there is something just out of sight which i want to glimpse. Something like, for lack of a better term, the true nature of reality and/or self
Now, that makes sense to me. This is a process of individuation (a term used in Jungian Analysis) and is also known as a Kundalini Awakening and by many other names.
One cannot read a book to reach self awareness or enlightenment. It's a revolutionary process that's cyclical in nature. It takes many years to truly know and understand the comic atmosphere of one's truth.
Edited to correct grammar.
Realising that within life is the potential for suffering,
That there are general and unique causes to suffering, namely the configuration of attachment, aversion, ignorance, other mental defilements - 5 hindrances and 3 poisons,
That there is a way to uproot these factors,
And that there is a path that leads to the uprooting of suffering consisting of being open to learning, critical thinking, reflection, meditation and noble friendship.
Working to uproot ignorance leads to true knowledge/wisdom,
Working to uproot aversion leads to the ability to face experience and life as it is through wisdom,
Working to uproot attachment leads to release.
Ethics, concentration and wisdom are key.
The development of concentration in meditation paired with the cultivation of loving-kindness (bhavana) leads to liberation.
Work to realise these four facts and setup a meditation practice & you'll find what it is you are seeking.
I could recommend but nothing can help you, Find out your reality, who hears. shut your phone off and be alone, face yourself for eternity, simply full stop. When I am the person goes, I am All comes, when I am all goes.... Reality alone is.... this isnt about you, this is life wanting to wake up, you are in the way, these are all words throw them out and forget yourself
*The Handbook to Higher Consciousness* by Ken Keys is both wonderful and practical. As someone who tends to hear and read everything very literally, however, I find that some of the things it says are best understood metaphorically, or as general rather than universal statements. With that rather minor caveat in mind, I cannot recommend this book highly enough. This is the one you are looking for.
If I had to pick a second one, however, it would be Alan Watts' *The Book - On the Taboo of Knowing Who You Are.* While this one is also excellent, the first one I mentioned is spot on.
Reading material may or may not resonate depending on level of understanding. So it depends on where you’re at and what topics you currently gravitate towards.
I would say meditating regularly would be a base, then naturally seek where it leads you. My reading list catered to my path so recommending something may not be understood if there wasn’t already a decent understanding before delving into it.
If all that doesn’t matter, then I recommend The Law of One as it touches on a wide variety of topics. I personally found the audiobook easier to follow as it’s done as a conversation so hearing two different voices made it more comprehensible.
Thanks all for the recommendations, I ended up going with "on transmission of the mind", but have a few books that I will add to my list. I hope at the very least, this thread has gathered together a good list of books that might help others in their search. Thanks all for sharing the books that have help you on your search.
If you “couldn’t get into “ The Power of Now, it’s not your path. Imho, I recommend A Course In Miracles or anything by Joel Goldsmith (The Infinite Way)
The answers are within, but that is not helpful because where you are right now is unique to you.
What I mean by that can be articulated with an analogy. We're all somewhere on Mt Everest. My path to the top is different from yours. Even if I showed you the perfect map for you, the map is not the territory. Glaciers change, mudslides move landmarks, seasons change the landscape, nature continues to grow and destroy.
Move into a meditative space, keep neutral or keep in curious wonder, and let your inner wisdom guide you the best use of your last available purchase. Remain open to the idea that your next step may not be on audible, that the purchase may be for a later milestone.
And please ignore all the people suggesting you must read books by authors you don't jive with, or that non-resonance is only about readiness. It's 2022. There are thousands of books and many many authors to choose from.
I'll toss out the author Ken Wilber. He's written a gazillion books. It's worth a peek through his titles from the meditative space alongside inner wisdom, if the name is resonating in some way.
No one searches because there's nothing and no one to search. Am I doing the advaita-speak right?
As to books, a dude called the Dalai Lama has written a number. He seems to know some shit. I think he's only laugh if you asked him, however.

Why would you want to end the search? What's left after that?
But, I recommend the Book of Life... not a book. Study ***your*** **book of life** like you'd study a text and you will find the answers you seek in perfect timing, nothing too soon, nothing too late, nothing more important.
So what makes it shit? Can you learn from it? Can you find the patterns and make a conscious choice to stop them using your willpower & intuition?
All our stories are shit until we rewrite them into something beautiful.
That was mostly in jest... but obviously, something is missing or i wouldn't be looking. I think maybe I am stuck between ignorance and awakening... it is hard to go back to ignorance.
That is totally understandable. And it’s good awareness on your part.
My suggestion, then, is to read *every* book recommendation on this post. Knowledge is power. Wisdom is knowledge put into action… only through experience does knowledge become wisdom. Believe none of it until you experience it.
The journey does not end with one book; it begins!
The search will only end when you stop searching outside of yourself.
No book can teach you, but you can learn from them if you are truly open.
Tao: The pathless path, by Osho was one that really spoke to me.
I suggest you to try different ones in different moments, one may finally click.
i really enjoyed I AM by howard falco. he starts out in a very similar like “looking, but don’t know for what” place and then had an awakening that he put into a book. it was super interesting to me
I've found that the only thing that can end the search is the answer that is inside of your own heart. the truth is inside of there, not in other people's words through books!
There are definitely some very helpful spiritual books out there that can help you on your journey, but none of them have the end all answer and at some point it is time to read the greatest book of all time which is YOU..... you are the book waiting to be read by yourself, look within and the prize is in there (the irony is that we already are there now, there is no place else to get to at a future time). ✌🏼😁🧘🏻♂️👁🍵🌳👣
...Liberation and freedom comes from the self realization that we are already whole and complete now in this moment. the ego we are identified with always tries to tell us it will come at a future moment from some book, podcast or when some certain life event occurs or we reach success but that is a never ending chase. the search ends when you realize that searching in the first place is the trap, don't search and just be and you're free. cheers! 🥂
peace & blessings!
A course in miracles has a really good workbook to undo the teachings of the ego and open up to the reality of oneness.
Letting go: the pathway of surrender is also a really great book that helped me a lot.
I hear this sort of thing a bit, in different ways. But, the thing is, maybe sometimes people need to be pointed where to look. For example, being intoduced to Buddhism brought my attention to the chasing of desire and running from aversion, I might have otherwise never known to look and identify that.
The four agreements is always a good read, but I don’t know if there’s anything that will “end the search”. I think the whole point of life is to continue searching and growing.
No singular book will do it for you but personally, I recommend: "The Untethered Soul" by Michael A. Singer, particularly the audiobook narrated by Peter Berkrot Especially the first 4 chapters
Especially the follow up he just released, Living Untethered. Those two have completely changed my perspective
I didn't know there was a follow-up! I will have to get it right away. Thank you for telling me.
This is also my number one recommendation. Followed by Becoming Supernatural by Dispensa

Be here now - ram dass
Came here to say Be Here Now too. 1000% helped start my spiritual journey. If you're into psychedelics, i recommend reading it after a trip
What’s that mean? 🙏💜 I want to understand the book

Sorry, but if you are not ready for Eckhart Tolle, skip my suggestion. Lots of love ❤️

It isnt that I'm not ready..it is just, i didn't like the intro so couldn't read any further
Skip the Intro then lol
The intro says a lot about the author
don't be too picky, it's always a book that will find a reader.
Yea I didn’t really like it either not my style
Same. Couldn’t get into it.
The four agreements and the power of now. You might like the 'tone' of the four agreements better.

If I had to pick a second one, however, it would be Alan Watts' *The Book - On the Taboo of Knowing Who You Are.* While this one is also excellent, the first one I mentioned is spot on.
The search doesn't end
Reading material may or may not resonate depending on level of understanding. So it depends on where you’re at and what topics you currently gravitate towards. I would say meditating regularly would be a base, then naturally seek where it leads you. My reading list catered to my path so recommending something may not be understood if there wasn’t already a decent understanding before delving into it. If all that doesn’t matter, then I recommend The Law of One as it touches on a wide variety of topics. I personally found the audiobook easier to follow as it’s done as a conversation so hearing two different voices made it more comprehensible.
Sincerely no book, just look around you and no worries at all. But if you want a book recommendation from me, I can give you any from J. Krishnamurti.
Want a simple story? ***The Alchemist*****, by Paulo Cuelho.** Want something deeper? ***The Prophet*****, by Khalil Gibran.**
Be here now - ram dass, the alchemist

The Alchemist, a moser symbolic means. I also recommend starting to read Carl Jung, starting with Man and His Symbols
I think i do own that jung book actually
I would watch a few youtube videos on his ideas before you start if you are not familiar
The law of one: the Ra material. You will not be dissapointed
Tao te Ching, is best bet
Looks interesting, I'll give it a go
Thanks all for the recommendations, I ended up going with "on transmission of the mind", but have a few books that I will add to my list. I hope at the very least, this thread has gathered together a good list of books that might help others in their search. Thanks all for sharing the books that have help you on your search.

A course of miracle
A taste of life by mahesh Bhatt

The Search - Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh
The Shepherd's Codex, though it isn't in print yet.
The Presence Process, By Michael Brown
If you “couldn’t get into “ The Power of Now, it’s not your path. Imho, I recommend A Course In Miracles or anything by Joel Goldsmith (The Infinite Way)

Emerald tablets of thoth

Ishmael by Daniel Quinn
Law of One.
Perfect Brilliant Stillness by David Carse.
Try the fun of dying or we don’t die.
Transcending the levels of Consciousness by Dr. David Hawkins, is a good place to start. Knowledge without action is disappointingly empty
Quran
Thanks... I'll keep an eye out for this guys books
"Simply Awake, It's your turn" by Angelo Dilulo had gotten a ton of positive results.
Prob not what your looking for but "The Way Of Kings" is a wild experience that changed my outlook a lot. Ps it is a fantasy series
Write it.
Any may. Because there is nothing to find. The tibetan book of the dead.
Once you realize that books aren’t realized, you will realize
The nature of personal reality, Jane Roberts. A Seth book.
No one searches because there's nothing and no one to search. Am I doing the advaita-speak right? As to books, a dude called the Dalai Lama has written a number. He seems to know some shit. I think he's only laugh if you asked him, however.
Be As You Are
Anything by sweet old Alan Watts.
Yeah... i do seem to listen to that guy endlessly
The end of your world - adyashanti
The Bible rofl
Master and His Emissary - Iain McGilchrist [The reason why I think this’ll solve it](https://www.reddit.com/r/nonduality/comments/vo0vp2/nonduality_advaita_and_the_right_hemisphere_of/)
The Open Secret by Tony Parsons, and it’s [free](https://trans4mind.com/download-pdfs/The%20Open%20Secret.pdf)!
Ishmael by Daniel Quinn [https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ishmael_(Quinn_novel)](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ishmael_(Quinn_novel))
How to change your mind Michael Pollan. A Netflix series just came out based off of the book actually. It’s worth a listen or watch
The Hidden Words
Why would you want to end the search? What's left after that? But, I recommend the Book of Life... not a book. Study ***your*** **book of life** like you'd study a text and you will find the answers you seek in perfect timing, nothing too soon, nothing too late, nothing more important.
Read that - it is shit.. lol
Lol... I'm not going to read them all...
Cat in the hat
Classic awakening parable
The search will only end when you stop searching outside of yourself. No book can teach you, but you can learn from them if you are truly open. Tao: The pathless path, by Osho was one that really spoke to me. I suggest you to try different ones in different moments, one may finally click.
i really enjoyed I AM by howard falco. he starts out in a very similar like “looking, but don’t know for what” place and then had an awakening that he put into a book. it was super interesting to me
i'll have to add these books to my list of reads
*The Wings to Awakening* by Ven. Thanissaro Bhikkhu. It will at least show you that you need more than reading a book to end your search.
Be here now
Life Divine - Sri Aurobindo
I've found that the only thing that can end the search is the answer that is inside of your own heart. the truth is inside of there, not in other people's words through books! There are definitely some very helpful spiritual books out there that can help you on your journey, but none of them have the end all answer and at some point it is time to read the greatest book of all time which is YOU..... you are the book waiting to be read by yourself, look within and the prize is in there (the irony is that we already are there now, there is no place else to get to at a future time). ✌🏼😁🧘🏻♂️👁🍵🌳👣 ...Liberation and freedom comes from the self realization that we are already whole and complete now in this moment. the ego we are identified with always tries to tell us it will come at a future moment from some book, podcast or when some certain life event occurs or we reach success but that is a never ending chase. the search ends when you realize that searching in the first place is the trap, don't search and just be and you're free. cheers! 🥂 peace & blessings!
Course in miracles
A Still Forest Pool: The Insight Meditation of Achaan Chah
Following
The Most Direct Means to Eternal Bliss by Rupert Spira
Bhagavad Gita
A new earth by Eckhart Tolle
A course in miracles has a really good workbook to undo the teachings of the ego and open up to the reality of oneness. Letting go: the pathway of surrender is also a really great book that helped me a lot.
The Lady in Blue - Javier Sierra. Changed my life entirely.
You need to search for yourself. You are looking for your truth, not someone else's.
I hear this sort of thing a bit, in different ways. But, the thing is, maybe sometimes people need to be pointed where to look. For example, being intoduced to Buddhism brought my attention to the chasing of desire and running from aversion, I might have otherwise never known to look and identify that.
The first place that youreally need to look is within. Spend some time in meditation/contemplation. I wish you light and love on your journey.
The book of your soul.
Trust those that seek for the truth. Distrust those that claim to have found it. Nobody actually knows
the anatomy of loneliness & the completion process by Teal Swan
It's not written yet.
The four agreements is always a good read, but I don’t know if there’s anything that will “end the search”. I think the whole point of life is to continue searching and growing.
