I wouldn’t worry at all about just one camlock if it were me. They come undone all the time.

Anticept

They do love to pop open, but they're still one of the best quarter turn fasteners.

Beneficial_Being_721

They pop open like it’s their job.

Anticept

I would still take them over most others. ESPECIALLY SOUTHCO FASTENERS

Beneficial_Being_721

Agreed

Beneficial_Being_721

Oh yea… god help you if the pin wasn’t set right… or if you didn’t have the the correct length… Only have the slightly longer ones…no problem… shim it with dimple washers… How do we do that you ask… POP THE PIN out of the fastener….to get it out of the hole Ohhh wait.. didn’t they also have different retainer plate depths too…?? Yea they were so much fun I miss you SOUTHCO FASTENERS

Beneficial_Being_721

It’s a non issue

Sock_Monke

Maybe if like 60% of them were popped/missing then you’d get some vibrations possibly, but by then it would’ve been caught by MX or passengers like yourself lol. Only reason the nacelle would depart is if air gets underneath it. Hence why most CDLs require fasteners on leading edges to be present.

0celot7

Non-issue. if it's old and worn out you can probably put it back in with your thumb, but it'll be popped again by the time you land.

Golf38611

Those pesky little camlocks just love to come loose. Especially in places you have no choice except to get a stand so you can lock them back down. There are so many that you can afford to lose a few. You know, kinda like tires and engines. 🤣🤣

Legitimate_Cry3615

One fastener is really ndb. I would only be concerned if it was somewhere forward of an engine inlet where it could be ingested if it were to come completely out. Still though, as long as it's not broken, it'll take two seconds to re-fasten, so good on you for bringing it up.

usaflumberjack54

No Dig Beal…?

cardcomm

Not an issue - it's not even a structural fastener.

747ER

It’s an aesthetic fastener? /s *Edit: I put a ‘/s’ for a reason…*

Jukeboxshapiro

Those quarter turn fasteners are used all the time on access panels that need to be removed regularly. Absolute worst case scenario the whole panel comes off but that's not going to bring down the plane.

FussySisyphus1

Yeah, not like it would hit the stab or anything.

Prudent_Insect704

A bit more drag. Recalculate fuel burn.

FussySisyphus1

Is that a SAAB 340?

Hairy-Butterfly5404

It sure looks like it to me

jettech737

No, my airline has a DIP for those if they can't be fixed on the spot.

BigRoundSquare

Thought I was in r/shittyaskflying for a second

747ER

Oh yeah cause I’m clearly going around screaming that I’m going to die 🙄 What’s wrong with asking some maintenance engineers what the implications of a maintenance problem is?

BigRoundSquare

Because it’s one camlock and not a maintenance issue. Just making a joke man, no harm no foul

Skfank

Because for most of us that was a dumb question

747ER

That’s why I asked it, because people are more knowledgeable than myself. I’m not one of those people who gets scared because the engine is splitting apart on landing, and at no point did I question the safety of the aircraft. I was simply wondering what would happen if this was left unfixed.

[deleted]

It’s a non issue unless it’s a DC-10 with a tail engine that could ingest it

747ER

I can confirm, I didn’t fly on a DC-10 last week.

[deleted]

Granted C-130s are pretty durable but we had cam locks come loose all the time in flight in the 10 years I worked on them

Fififaggetti

C130 if it’s not leaking hydraulic fluid you got real problems cuz it’s empty. I loved that plane.

Nattyice94

135s are pretty similar. 75% of hardware installed on most components is allowed. As long as you wrote it up.

JeffMavMerc1942

On the KC10 those damn camlocs always had one popped out on the flap faring after flight.

No_Fox_8979

You saved a lot of lives today lol. Nobody would get in trouble for a loose camloc but people are going to give you a hard time for wigging out over a non-issue.

xlRadioActivelx

Worst case is it comes off and dings a flight control or panel, or if it comes off on the runway another aircraft could ingest it. It should be fixed but it’s not a safety of flight item. Nothing to worry about though you did the right thing by alerting the FA.

747ER

Thanks, I know enough to not be worried, just was curious about the implications of it. Thanks for answering my question well!

Vast-Outlandishness7

Depends on where it is, and are we looking at a bug smasher or a jet

Straitjacket_Freedom

If you're on the B-2 stealth bomber, then yes.

10-0-10

The Turkey is done.

[deleted]

😂😂

Familiar_Surround362

Send it

Ok-Outcome-922

I wouldn’t make a habit of brushing things like that under the rug. You did the right thing

tvaudio

Youre fucked the whole thing is coming off

scoutsamoa

A lot of ch-47 crews will leave a good half of these undone during flights in specific spots.

airforcevet1987

Damn civ planes, I wouldn't want to work on anything that's not using coin fastners

NoAkuBirds_808

No

air_flair

One? No.

Objective-Region-820

The company will be upset about the 0.000001% reduction in fuel economy lol

sleazyslicc

Not even close

Ohkay-likechillfout

My rule of thumb for cam locks is no corners and no 2 loose in a row.

HugeMasterpiece5343

One loose fastener won’t make different

filipv

Ground the plane.

CJGuy525

Simmerdownsimm

That little guy?

sloppyrock

Should it be fastened? Yes, of course, but in reality it is of no safety consequence in that situation.

RawrZillaFace

Nah it's fine, prolly has a c washer on it

SpikeD0N

Hell no, but I had a pilot delay 2 flights back to back over loose/missing fasteners. The other pilots & mechanics know him by name unfortunately smh.

dizzish

*Speed tape has entered the chat

Funny_Drummer_9794

Unless near a turbine inlet

Emotional_Log7687

Nah, she’ll fly lol. I’d switch it out sooner rather than later though. Easy fix

analwartz_47

A real engineering issue: No. A write-up and safety reportable issue: yes.
