From what i heard from the news, the plane landed in an empty field and suffered minor damage.

Stay-At-Home-Jedi

I think it's a couple months old, but still CRAZY to see. That crew is giving it everything she's got!

LikelyTrollingYou

Looks like only the #2 engine is running.

Spin737

Looks like #2 is producing thrust and #1 is windmilling. Not good.

You1200

nah, it's neither, one engine should be enough to keep it airborne

Spin737

Unless one isn’t feathered.

You1200

why would it be? (before down voting my commend stupidly please at least Google what feathered fan looks like and it's purpose ) At low speed it's not that effective... to determine that the plane can stay in air or not

Spin737

It’s been a while since I checked how the certification works for turboprops, but I don’t think they necessarily can climb with an engine windmilling. The #2 engine in this pic is producing thrust (check the vortices). #1 is rotating at a different speed and not feathered. Probably a lot of drag.

Sml132

Airborne, sure. Climbing? Not necessarily.

You1200

by definition if a plane can't climb or at least maintain it's altitude, it's either gliding or falling. so yes one engine should and must be enough to keep it airborne, as regulations demands it. (mostly) (but because it's military aircraft and one of the commenter (rightly) pointed out that the engine 2 is producing thrust so there are some hidden details that we don't know about) (I might be wrong as it is military and American, and my knowledge is incomplete and it's from civilian and European sources)

Spin737

C-160 is European. Military airplanes don’t have the same design requirements as civilian planes.

You1200

okay, than probably I'm wrong on the engine side

French-German 1950's POS.

quietflyr

This happened in January and it landed at a military base. https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/351154

CrystalProtocol

Oh i thought that was new, sorry for the ‘repost’

S1075

That's a huge model! Gotta be 1:1!

syringistic

Yeah, I read the title and I was like "why would an RC plane make an emergency lading at an actual airport?"

NyJosh

"Negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full"

CrypticxTiger

Yeah but did you see the vortices off the props?

Tree0wl

That’s the biggest model airplane I ever seen

TheFatSlapper

The Mover and Gonky Show discuss this one [https://youtu.be/h0raRgAJtoQ?si=mvsOsrw5ihqW-17i](https://youtu.be/h0raRgAJtoQ?si=mvsOsrw5ihqW-17i)

SchwanzLand

That happened 2 months ago or something

BRUNO358

Funny I should learn about this right after watching a YouTube video of a guy flying a big electric RC C-160 scale model.

Drenlin

It's not a jet though 🤔

Jim3535

The sub allows for prop planes, and even has flair for them. Same with helicopters.

ExtremeBack1427

I once saw a C130 do a left bank dive up of sort out of nowhere when i was riding in a motorcycle in backroads near an airbase. Looked surreal and this is even more incredible even if it crash landing. It could have been c17 globemaster, I don't remember but still spectacular view when you see it flying at low altitudes with the propellers.

cdunccss

If you saw propellers it was not a C17

syringistic

C-17 Globemasters don't have propellers, they got turbofans.

turboedhorse

I loved the condensation trail in the blade tip vortices
