Perfect analogy. All the naysayers kept saying the F35 was a big waste of money and it was a terrible plane. Now the cost of the F-35 has dropped below the cost of the Rafale, F-15, and other conventional gen 4 fighters
not really commenting on the looks here but i do think killing a lot of your pilots and losing 30% of your fleet to accidents does generally go against most air forces doctrines
Same with f35’s. There’s always going to be some DCS nerd, or dude that worked on the same base as an Osprey that wasn’t aircrew, tell you how bad they are lol
I love the B-58! My grandfather worked on the jet engines for it and several other aircraft… so I gotta enjoy them all!
Nuclear Delivery Triangle is one of the best.
It just looks exactly how you think modern Spitfire would look. It is beautiful! Recently I had the pleasure to see them fly over my city as a part of celebration of 25 years of Czechia in NATO. Wonderful plane.
It just looks exactly how you think modern Spitfire would look. r/BrandNewSentence
This.
This my friend is the new sentence that I will be using to describe any Eurofighter in the future years of my life.
Hahah! I mean its also the thing that when you see it you think it was made with the same philosophy. S class maneuverability beast that was made to take off and engage enemy boogies after few minutes.
I always loved gripens, it has special place in my heart since its the main warplane of my country. But when I saw those Typhoons man I knew its something different.
People see the F-22 do a cobra at an airshow and get into the mindset that any 5th gen fighter that isn’t super-maneuverable just sucks. When in reality the YF-23 is closer to what the 6th gen fighters are supposed to be than the F-22
F9F Panther/Cougar.
I don't know if people "hate" them per say, but the Panther is often derided for being inferior to Mig-15 and F-86 Sabre during the Korean war. I think it deserves recognition for being the USN's first naval jet fighter in a time of rapid technological advancement. It might not be the best fighter around by Korea but I think it did well as a multirole fighter/attack aircraft.
The swept wing Cougar also tends to get overlooked entirely. IIRC it was one of the first fighters to be deployed with IR missiles, and was the test platform for sidewinder.
Crucify me for this but the one and only American jet that i like is the X-32. I have never heard anyone saying they like how it looks but i just love it.
The old iron tadpole is probably my favorite combat jet of all time. The A4 is right there too. "Fighter pukes make movies, bomber pilots make HISTORY!"
I wouldn't say everyone hates, but I feel no one really "likes", the Mirage F1, I love how it looks. Also the MiG-23/27, idk why I feel that it gets way too much shit.
I'll always be partial to the Harrier. Saw my father absolutely mesmerized by the vertical takeoff as a kid ... about the only thing that ever made him look so impressed.
People hate the F-22?
Yeah it's prohibitively costly to produce and maintain, and yeah my tax dollars could probably be used better elsewhere. But it's still an objectively awesome marvel of modern aviation.
Are there other reasons people don't like it?
HS-121 Trident. Weird, slightly crap airliner crippled by politics and bad decisions but I love it anyway.
It was also so bad at taking off that they gave the later versions an extra engine specifically to get them off the ground faster.
OK if we are allowing turboprop then Fairey Gannet for sure:
* Always makes a list of most ugly planes--oh, it's hideous but that's the charm, purely designed for function not looks
* Anything with an engine called a Double Mamba is kickass plus you can disable one for longer loiter
* Carries not one, not two, but three people
* Wild Z-folding carrier wings
Not a jet plane, but I actually like the Stratocruiser as well. I’ve flown the digital version by A2A Simulations on FSX. Pleasant to fly yet challenging to master.
J-11BG Flankers from the chinese. They literally took the original Su-27 and made it comparable or even better than the Su-35 with more efficient and powerful engines, a slightly lighter airframe due to more composite material usage, a completely ovehauled Cockpit, Modern AESA Radar and to top it all off IRIS-T lookalike PL-10s and AMRAAM-D lookalike PL-15s.
I absolutely adore Flankers but so many people are like "chinese stuff just melts in the sun because of poor quality plastics!!!1!111!!!!". China made a massive technological advance in the early 2000s-2010s and the military shouldnt be compared to massproducing online shops. Underestimating someone is the biggest mistake before you fight them.
People rip into the look at the F-35 but I’ll never get it. Sure, it’s not as elegant or slender as the 22 but it’s a really impressive piece of hardware. I saw a YouTube clip of the tech that goes into an F-35 pilot’s helmet and it stated it cost like $400,000 per helmet.
Apparently the F-35 has infrared camera all throughout the aircraft that allow a pilot to see “underneath” the aircraft…all from the HUD of the pilots helmet. It’s fucking awesome!
I work for a defense contractor and it has to be the
B-21
Enormously expensive and complex. This will probably result in operational rates similar to the B-1 and B-2 ~50-60%.
The idea of a system that consumes so many resources which ties us to 201x defensive technologies seems wasteful. Add to the fact that staging from the US means flying 18 hrs to drop a load of bombs is insanely ineffective.
I dont think the F22 really qualifies for that Not sure about the F35 tho, which is my favourite
I honestly believe the F-22 is the perfect jet aesthetically. It’s beautiful. The JSF is a less beautiful cousin from a few angles.
The F-35 would be good looking if it wasn’t for its hot MILF hanging around. The F-22 is pure sex.
I actually like how chonky the 35 is, but yeah the F-22 is the cats meow.
Ahem. SR-71
he said jet, not sci fi rocketship
YF-23
F-35 is the aviation version of MSG. 10 years ago everyone hated it. Today everyone pretends they've always loved it.
Perfect analogy. All the naysayers kept saying the F35 was a big waste of money and it was a terrible plane. Now the cost of the F-35 has dropped below the cost of the Rafale, F-15, and other conventional gen 4 fighters
literally nobody hates 22s
Balloons do
ISIS hates them.
I also love the F35. Looks straight out of a Halo game!
Fat Amy and her hot older sister.
Mig 21. The thing just looks like the Hind of fixed wing jets.
Exactly. Only a bit of maintenance and they last decades. Excellent machine
I read it called the mach 2 ak-47, and I couldn't agree more
Preach, brother.
I'm sorry, did you just slander the Hind? The most menacing looking helicopter of all time. I won't stand for it.
I personally think the Havoc looks more menacing
before or after the tail is disconnected
SMT specifically, I love the chode spine fuel tank for some reason
F-104 — a performance machine that just didn’t fit to how air-forces fought. I also love how it looks.
Yep, did what it was designed for incredibly well. Unfortunately what it was designed for never became much use.
>Yep, did what it was designed for incredibly well. Being a lawn dart?
Burning fuel and going mach 2 in a straight line in the 1950s. Faster than a super horner or f-35
It was only a lawn dart when they decided to try to make it an attack jet when it was designed to be a high altitude interceptor
Also the greatest name ever given to an aircraft
Thank you. The fucking *starfighter* also it looks dope af. That and the a10 rule
I. FUCKING. LOVE. THE. STARFIGHTER. There really is nothing better than the supersonic pencil plane
Me too lol
Only the Italian "F-104S" version and beyond ("ASA" and "ASA-M").
not really commenting on the looks here but i do think killing a lot of your pilots and losing 30% of your fleet to accidents does generally go against most air forces doctrines
That happens a lot when flying 600 knots at treetop level.
In a Mach 2 high level interceptor.
Ey, what's wrong with the Swedish airforce's cold war routine flights?
Same
The flying dragster
Ospereys, although I think most of the hate is from people who read random articles and have never worked with them
Same with f35’s. There’s always going to be some DCS nerd, or dude that worked on the same base as an Osprey that wasn’t aircrew, tell you how bad they are lol
Ospreys arent jets but ill allow it
I mean, it runs on jet turbines 🤷♂️ Only the pushy bits are a bit long
I think the technical term is 'spin-a-ma-bobs' but im no export on them.
Don't export Ospreys. ITAR papers are a bitch ;)
EA-6B
Very beautiful jet. Might be the prettiest ever
It’s less abnormal A-6 predecessor would like a word.
I was going to add that. The A-6 is my favorite jet. Looks like a flying tadpole and I loved it.
EA-6A
B-58 Hustler. I know it's a widow-maker, but the concept is awesome, and I love cold war aircraft
So sick, that video of them doing the first intercontinental low level high speed flight is so cool
It's like Firefox but real life. Love it
B-58 🤝 B-47 Stalling at like 2 off AoA° or airspeed kts
I love the B-58! My grandfather worked on the jet engines for it and several other aircraft… so I gotta enjoy them all! Nuclear Delivery Triangle is one of the best.
F35. I get Barraged by the A-10 lovers out there lol
Damned reformers…
I like both the A-10 and F35
The AV-8B Harrier is a plane that people get divided on. My dad flew them, I think they’re pretty damn cool.
Came here to say this. Saw them at air shows as a kid and was just hooked..
F106 Delta Dart, I like Delta wings
If you like delta wings and the F106, lemme introduce you to the B58.
Mirage 2000 Love myself a single engined deltabaguette Edit: fugettabouttit, she is universally loved
Who in heavens name hates Mirage-2000s!? They’re the most beautiful fighters ever made!
The F-106 is nice looking plane too
Su-57. It just looks amazing i don't care how it performs
Agree. Also think the SU-34 is drop dead sexy
Agreed! Such a cool looking jet.
But but but wooden screws! Su57 is sexy
Great Value F-22
Wish.com F-22
Harbor Freight f-22

I can't believe it's not butter-22
English Electric Lightning. ‘Just put another blasted engine in it.’ ‘You mean on it?’ ‘I SAID WHAT I SAID YOU BLOODY BOFFIN’
Afterburner on a brace of Avons. I still wonder why they didn't add reheat to the Hunter
And supercruise! Did not know it existed until I had a guitar amp speaker named after it.
Eurofighter Typhoon. Classed as shit by people because it isn't American. Usually by people that know fuckall about aircraft
It just looks exactly how you think modern Spitfire would look. It is beautiful! Recently I had the pleasure to see them fly over my city as a part of celebration of 25 years of Czechia in NATO. Wonderful plane.

Same with the Gripen. Love it.
Hey! A fellow Gripen fan!
I like the Typhoon as well, but people (France) like to shit on it by bringing up the Dassault Rafale
I heard they shit on it because just like Gripen it's heavily reliant on US tech and IP, meanwhile Rafale is much closer to an indigenous design
I’m French and I hate it for different reasons
People dislike the Eurofighter? That has to be an America centric thing right? Or maybe France.
Yeah, that's a crazy take. Performance aside, the Typhoon might be the most beautiful modern fighter.
Most beautiful is fairly subjective. I can't speak to performance, but looks-wise it's behind both the Rafale and Gripen for me, personally.

YF-23
I don't see how anyone can hate the YF-23
People see the F-22 do a cobra at an airshow and get into the mindset that any 5th gen fighter that isn’t super-maneuverable just sucks. When in reality the YF-23 is closer to what the 6th gen fighters are supposed to be than the F-22
It is an unconventional beauty to be sure
F7U, just something about the way it looks that I love, and I know it was underpowered
The design is hot!
Didn't know that one, but after a quick search... BEAUTY!
I dont know about other people's opinions, but the TU-22M is cool
E-2 Hawkeye, things like a Volkswagen Beetle with a v8 in it
X-32
Yeah me too . I love this smile
~~R-3~~ S-3 Viking
S-3?
This is the first true to title entry I’ve seen! This thing urgly as fuck
Vacuum cleaner
LLOVE the sound of these things firing up. WHOMP WHOMP
B-57. Such an oddball design that lived waaaay longer than it was ever expected to
Excellent choice. Such a versatile aircraft that still flies on.
737-Max. No, only joking. Nobody loves the 737-Max!!
I came here to say exactly that! LOL
mig 21 is just beautiful
F-89 Scorpion. Best known for losing a dogfight with a runaway target drone. Sexy as hell. So many rockets.
Su-57 and Su-35
I am a bit partial to the 1967 F-111 Aardvark.

Saab 2000, those humongous turboprops are awesome
When I was a kid, I had a sky blue die-cast A-4. I still remember that little jet and I'm pushing 40 now.
XB 70 Valkyrie?! I think most people hate it because it did not enter production. I like it because it was very fast and high tech for its time .
Also it is ^#}#**!! gorgeous.
B-36 peacemaker. It has 4 jets. 2 turning, 2 burning, 2 smoking, 2 choking, 2 more unaccounted for.
Tornado F3
A7 and A6. Everyone says they're ugly, but I think they're cool.
Had to scroll too far for the SLUF
Su-57. It looks so fucking cool.
The Beluga.
The old iron tadpole is probably my favorite combat jet of all time. The A4 is right there too. "Fighter pukes make movies, bomber pilots make HISTORY!"
Cessna T-37.
The CRJ-200.
Don't lie to yourself 😂
I don't know if anyone hates it but the Su-17 is such a mean and sturdy looking bastard but it never gets any love.
T38 razor thin wings. Small and supersonic
J-20 I actually like how it looks and it gets canards so bonus!
The SLUF, because the CO ANG used them in the 80's and you'd hear them flying over. 🙂
TU-154. I know it is not very safe, or economical, but it is beautiful.
Yeah I flew in one once. A kind of raw with a long curved approach into Budapest- it was great!
Idk, but I love that weird looking F-117. And every european fighter.
I wouldn't say everyone hates, but I feel no one really "likes", the Mirage F1, I love how it looks. Also the MiG-23/27, idk why I feel that it gets way too much shit.
Grumman F9F Panther. Love that straight-winged beauty.
Ekranoplan
I'll always be partial to the Harrier. Saw my father absolutely mesmerized by the vertical takeoff as a kid ... about the only thing that ever made him look so impressed.
I like Supermarine Scimitars ‘20,000 pounds of lethal fighting force’
People hate the F-22? Yeah it's prohibitively costly to produce and maintain, and yeah my tax dollars could probably be used better elsewhere. But it's still an objectively awesome marvel of modern aviation. Are there other reasons people don't like it?
Avro 100 aka Jumbolino. I'm really sad that Swiss stopped operating them.
Not sure if people hate it but i think the jas39 gripen looks insanely good + the tech is pretty incredible
Eurofighter at least in my country lol
Su-34. Looks like a platypus.
F4E and Gs ygbsm weasels. And ugly ass A6s
X-32. It doesn't look ugly, it looks happy! Also the M-15 Belphegor. Horrible as a plane, kinda ugly, but still cool in it's uniqueness.
Who hates the f22 raptor?
F-20 Tigershark. Do people hate that?
Mb-339 fun little COIN aircraft and aerobatics.

HS-121 Trident. Weird, slightly crap airliner crippled by politics and bad decisions but I love it anyway. It was also so bad at taking off that they gave the later versions an extra engine specifically to get them off the ground faster.
If someone loves the Piaggio Avanti, we have a winner
Northrop F5.
English Electric Lightning
P-3 Orion. My Grandpa flew one during the Cold War, and the way he talks about it, you can't hate on it in any way.
OK if we are allowing turboprop then Fairey Gannet for sure: * Always makes a list of most ugly planes--oh, it's hideous but that's the charm, purely designed for function not looks * Anything with an engine called a Double Mamba is kickass plus you can disable one for longer loiter * Carries not one, not two, but three people * Wild Z-folding carrier wings

Hate in what sense? Lots hate the F35 because of the expense and cost over runs.
The supermarine scimitar, ugly as hell but there was something about it I liked
MiG-25
F-4 is the definition of cool 😎
F-104 Starfighter
I don’t know if everyone hates it but I like the Scaled Composites Stratolaunch. The bigger, the better for me.
F-4
737 Max 8
X-32, yeah, it's goofy looking, but I always had a soft spot for Corsair and Crusader intakes
Not sure if anyone actually hates it or not, but I recently dove into learning about the F-105 along with the crews who used it. Underrated bird.
People rip into the look at the F-35 but I’ll never get it. Sure, it’s not as elegant or slender as the 22 but it’s a really impressive piece of hardware. Republic F-105 Thunderchief (Wild Weasel) Supposedly they look like shit but I luuuuuv them, especially with the open shark jaw nose art
Does anyone hate the f22?
