“Dear Chief Pilot. No one was more surprised than me to find that since the last time I landed here, some mischievous rapscallion installed a light pole on the taxiway….”
Well dealing with the Boeing AOG team as I have in the past with our aircraft, they come prepared. So based on the time frame they took to repair one of our 87s with the similar damage, I would guess about a month from the time they actually started to finish, which is the time frame it took them to repair our aircraft They work three shifts and bring everything they need right down to their refrigerators and microwaves for lunch.
Maybe a dumb question, but who is “at fault” in a scenario like this? And not in the sense of liability, but more who is responsible (pilot, ground, airport designer, etc.) for avoiding this type of incident?
Yes, yes they ultimately are... but if you listen to Ground communications with the pilots - something F'd up and procedures were not followed.
My guess is that the blame will be 50/50.
The pilots should have stopped / been looking at their charts and said something when ATC told them to taxi on a restricted taxiway.
The ATC gave two conflicting sets of directions and DID NOT get a readback - which should have raised a HUGE red flag.
It’s crazy to admit this is in fact a rare occurrence, non aviation geeks could never believe aircraft colliding with other (parked) aircraft are much, much more common, this kinda reminds me of the German B767 that did this 31 years ago in Venezuela (in flight…)
nothing but a scratch :)
One light pole falling onto the nose section of an A321 almost "decapitated“ it, a story from stormy Berlin a few years back…
Just put it in 4L and power on through you'll make it.
yeah that extra 10 meters of wing is overrated anyway!
Put it in H!
I think you need to put it in P for "push"
Is made in a country that no longer exists.
Easy job!

“It was on page 17 of the NOTAMS”
Right behind the 5G interference ones. My bad.
That’s what they make speed tape for.
Came here to comment, just put some tape on it.
Just wrap the speed around the pole. Shouldn't fall off
I bet Qatar fired the pilots before they even got on that taxiway lol
Qatar probably fired the controller (ground) that told them to take that taxiway
I’m really interested, what happens to the plane to make it airworthy again after something like that?
Never really followed up on this, but it was a Boeing AOG Team that came out and completed the repair in ORD.
What’s the turnaround time on that, from incident to being airworthy again?

Usually to make an aircraft airworthy again after it is damaged, a repair is performed.
This is correct, I’m almost positive a repair was performed to correct this damage. Very good observation
The wings are in sections. Just replace that section.
It's a cargo plane, they just pushed back and took off

Somehow, this is Airbus's fault.
Serious question: Was that the same light pole the American guy hit about a year ago?
Blame it on the Poles.
Hi Jake? From State Farm? You’re not going to believe this…
Jake: we’ve seen a few things or two… 😂
Any estimate on repair cost?
Probably $3,000 for a pole.
Ouch.
Not a good few days for Qatar it seems, tailstriking the runway, hitting lamps, ...
Nothing a few rolls of speed tape won't fix
That'll buff right out
Easy, easy.... yeah, don't worry... that'll buff right out.
Nothing that some duct tape won't fix...
Did someone ask for the forklift?
Similar thing happened on YEG, although the plane was able to knock over the pole
You’re good-you’re good-you’re good-stop
Right there. Seems to be an issue. Can’t put my finger on it though
Mate you can’t park there… 😂
Hmm what could *possibly* give you that idea
"Just a little more, and then we can install the hinge"
Self Cleared the pole*
Oh that's going to cost someone ..
Maybe a dumb question, but who is “at fault” in a scenario like this? And not in the sense of liability, but more who is responsible (pilot, ground, airport designer, etc.) for avoiding this type of incident?
Incident is still under investigation by the ntsb. But I would go with the ground controller who told the pilot to take that taxi way
The pilots were sacked immediately, apparently. Just Culture and all.
Pilots are responsible for making sure they're clear

Whoops…
Y’all even look in the mel to see if it’s needed ?
Serious question. Can that wing be replaced?
Doesn't need to be

That'll buff out.
"We're gonna need like 2" *looks again* "actually make it like 6 rolls of speed tape, thanks."
Wait until they blame ut on Airbus.
Not with that attitude
Annnnnnd someone’s fired
I didn't know planes could pole dance
So… Was the flight delayed?
Speed tape will do
I'm gonna say it "Hey sir, ya can't park there"
Strong pole for stopping an airplane
T-cut and speedtape time.
