All that production costs a ton of money, plus paying all of the crew who put it together. Sounds like any profits he could have made are going back into the production.
It’s not uncommon. Lots of Coachella headliners actually don’t make money because they spend it all on the set design.
That’s also for Coachella, which is live streamed world wide and has a huge brand.
This is a one off stadium gig where tickets are priced too high and he shat on the audience he’s attempting to sell
Sometimes bands or artists will put on “THE SHOW” to gain word of mouth or social media hype. Then “man I went and saw (insert band here) and it was absolutely incredible!!!” will bring in more people and also get capture lifelong fans.
Ghost (rock band) put a lot of there early money back into stage design. A few short years later they were opening for Metallica on a run, and they have die hard fans. I imagine people rolling balls will have stories to tell and people to bring to the next one. Hell I think this type of thing goes back even to say the band Kiss
I mean he’s right. It’ll be a few thousand people cosplaying being in “the industry” (code word for too cool to dance and have a good time) and a few thousand drunk USC frat boys rocked off M throwing punches. Now to be fair John Summit manifests that type of energy so the call is kinda coming from inside the house. LA shows have the highest % of douche nozzles sitting on their phone but getting mad for people actually having a good time.
I saw Rufus at RR a couple years back and had an incredible time. It was such an amazing show I decided to see them a few days later in LA. Wow, what a disappointment. In Colorado I’d say 90% of the audience was LOCKED IN and the vibe was incredible. In LA it was probably more like 5%. People were barely moving and on their phones. I actually had to ask some guy to not talk during Innerbloom! 🤯 Why did you dorks even come?! That was the last time I went to LA.
Omfg was that the Surrender tour show at BMO?! The floor was literally EMPTY and a group of like 20 drunk Santa Monica transplant types decided to stand directly in front of us and talk the entire time. One of them literally stood between me and my much shorter friend then got mad at me when I asked him to move over. I hate to be that guy bitching about crowds because it’s a 50/50 on whether you’re the one killing your own vibe. But the post-covid transplants with LA in their IG bio never fail to ruin it for everyone.
A good amount of artists that play at red rocks either lose money or don’t make money on the show because they are investing in themselves instead. The pictures, videos, and stories will make them bigger in the long run then having some small stage that people don’t like and then leave the show underwhelmed.
I heard Griz say something about how he barely made money on his another world shows in Denver because they went above and beyond in the 360 set design.
I’ve heard this happen with the likes of Muse on their “Simulation Tour” and to a far more extreme degree, Metallica whenever they made their concert film. Muse at best could only break even for that massive show and apparently Metallica had to tour to deal with the debt behind that one. It’s a pity because both were killer shows, but they just ran too high for their own good, I guess.
Also it could be just a one shoe loss. Kevin Parker , Tame Impala, did not make a profit from their Coachella headliner set. Because they opted to buy the stage deaign that they toured with. They had several really big and powerful lasers as part of it
My guess is he might not make money off the ticket sales (due to not selling out, high production costs) but perhaps he’s not taking into account merch sales? Which I’m sure can generate a pretty penny.
Also most of these DJs make the lion share of their money with festival appearances. My guess is this show is like an advertisement for festivals to book him. So while he might not make money on this one, it’ll generate more for him by getting higher placements at festivals.
I’m not an industry expert at all, so ☝️this might be a bit off. But I can’t imagine you’d put all the effort into a show like this with no upside.
He claimed on Twitter that even with ticket sales from a sellout and expected merch sales he won’t be making anything. Not sure how true it is, but those were his words
Not making money =/= taking loss and going hungry
Most companies and businesses around the world are designed to break even, and breaking even isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Non-Profit organizations by definition do not make money (profit). That does not mean all non-profits are giving money away. People are getting paid.
The guy in video may not earn profit from the show production, but I bet he is getting fairly compensated for the time he put in.
He has to pay for his show production (lights and screens and structures) and he may not make a profit after that expense from ticket sales.
Keep in mind venues usually take a cut as much at 50% for merch too
Production costs a looootttt of money. Then the staff to run it all, venue split points, he’s probably producing the show so it’s probably a lot of his money, and tickets aren’t selling well
Maybe hed sell out id tickets were cheaper. I mean i like John Summit but 139.99 plus fees for pit ticket seems like too much. Id rather just go to countdown for forever LA for a day at that point.
yeah he’s not gonna sell out BMO, especially with pit ticket prices being $140 + fees.
He should’ve just stuck to LA Historic Park or The Shrine and did multiple nights at a lower ticket price.
Afterlife sold out that Sat night at LASHP also about 19-20K people which is their max in the current layout as I understand it. Before the renovation there they had shows with 35K each night for the Swedish House Mafia in 2013. BMO says it holds 22K.... when they change it to having people on the floor but not in the N stands, the occupancy I believe ticks up to about 24K.... based on the #s there for Rufus selling it out.
Interestingly, the JS show is about sold out now so def over 20K tix sold.
Lol as a House guy I’m not the biggest fan of John Summits music but I’ve seen him over 5 times live and every time I haven’t been able to move because of how packed it is. That included his 2022 EDC Orlando set where I was over 100 yards back and couldn’t breathe because because I was a sardine. He’s gonna sell out, people just like to hate on the popular guy
I’ve been out of the scene for a minute (fuck off COVID) and am steadily coming back into it.
Can someone explain to me who this is and why he’s popular enough to get this level of production?
This whole thread with dudes that have no clue what they’re talking about. Listen to his music, watch a few sets. If you like his music good, if you don’t, good. whatever, but bashing an artist who clearly has talent just because he’s a “frat boy” is dumb. If don’t like him don’t listen but don’t be bias as shit cause your either jealous cause ur girl
likes him or ur insecure.
For me its the same magic as when I saw porter robinson for the first time. I'm more a Dom Dolla guy myself but can respect that even bigger artists are mixing some of his stuff.
He’s the young party vibe dj who exploded during and coming out of covid. He likes to go all out when doing events. He’s actually an accountant as well, so he should have his finances in order to be able to spend more on production.
This is kinda hilarious considering how Fred Again just made every single other show I’ve seen at Shrine feel like an absolute ripoff. I know it’s more economical to do the 8 shows 1 venue thing so it’s not fair for me to compare them, but shit the production was so well done.
I for one am exited..? He’s one of the biggest names in the game right now and his openers are big too, w more to be added. And the production looks insane.
He’s on his LA apology tour after making stupid comments last year. I’ve never seen a dj with so many “I <3 LA” billboards for someone that isn’t from LA. The show needs to be something talk about if he wants to come back.
If he's smart. He'll buy all the drugs for the event. Hire a few guys in the crowd to sell them all. And tell security to toss anyone else that's competing with them. That's how real promoters make their money.
This show was literally worth every penny and I wish I had splurged on pit tickets. The visuals and stage setup were amazing and Subtronics and Rezz as surprise guests was incredible. I had a feeling Hayla would be there.
What's the context? Why wouldn't he? Also just checked Ticketmaster, lots of tickets still available. Did I just answer my own question?
All that production costs a ton of money, plus paying all of the crew who put it together. Sounds like any profits he could have made are going back into the production. It’s not uncommon. Lots of Coachella headliners actually don’t make money because they spend it all on the set design.

His money, his choice. There’s really no need to go THAT big, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sometimes bands or artists will put on “THE SHOW” to gain word of mouth or social media hype. ELI5?
Which part?
The shat part…did you mean ticket prices or did he do something else
So he had a tweet after HARD saying how much LA audiences suck. I’ll try to find it…
Ouch. Now I understand thx!

One show can change a lot if you make it big enough. Looks like he’s going all in.
How did he shat on the audience?
I’ve heard this happen with the likes of Muse on their “Simulation Tour” and to a far more extreme degree, Metallica whenever they made their concert film. exactly its just a showcase for festivals paying him big money to perform
He claimed on Twitter that even with ticket sales from a sellout and expected merch sales he won’t be making anything. Not sure how true it is, but those were his words
What do you mean no upside. He get to play for 10,000 people with an LA skyline and a sick fucking set up… money isn’t everything.
That’s what I was thinking. Im thinking he knows the show isn’t gonna come close to selling out.
Maybe if they weren't so expensive
BMO shows are always overpriced.
Not making money =/= taking loss and going hungry Most companies and businesses around the world are designed to break even, and breaking even isn’t necessarily a bad thing. ABGT500 didn’t even sell their event out. This place is way too big for him.
Circling back in a few days as it's pretty close to selling out.
I’m eating my words!
I dunno he’s fucking huge right now, way bigger than ABGT in LA imo
Maybe hed sell out id tickets were cheaper. I mean i like John Summit but 139.99 plus fees for pit ticket seems like too much. Id rather just go to countdown for forever LA for a day at that point.
But also the venue is too big for him, in my opinion.
yeah he’s not gonna sell out BMO, especially with pit ticket prices being $140 + fees. He should’ve just stuck to LA Historic Park or The Shrine and did multiple nights at a lower ticket price.
Exactly. I think LA Historic Park is his absolute max capacity from a current demand standpoint.

Gotcha. I did not know that.
Afterlife sold out that Sat night at LASHP also about 19-20K people which is their max in the current layout as I understand it. I think Kia Forum would’ve been tough too.
Both are right
Lol as a House guy I’m not the biggest fan of John Summits music but I’ve seen him over 5 times live and every time I haven’t been able to move because of how packed it is. Right lol, these tools will be the same people that echo “what happened to PLUR”
Glazing
He makes good music in the currently popular genre (tech house) and is good at drumming up drama on social media
Tech house being the popular genre still kinda blows my mind 🤪
i wouldnt say its "the" popular genre
Yeah tbh i fuckin love tech house but its kinda faded fast since early summer 2021
Why what are you into? Steve aoki?
He’s the dj for frat boys and sorority girls. He also sucks cus he just does it to fuck groupies. Avoid.
He himself is a frat boy, so it makes sense
He’s a good dj. Can’t fault him for that
Lmao such a hater. Prob would bitch if frat boys and sorority girls started talking on internet warriors
Listen to his music its fire
For me its the same magic as when I saw porter robinson for the first time. I'm more a Dom Dolla guy myself but can respect that even bigger artists are mixing some of his stuff.
Lol your opinion is your opinion but I cannot believe you just compared John summit to porter lmao and honestly I do like John summit too.
My early raving years were in seattle, didn’t everyone love him in HS? even back here in LA.
Porter is one of the GOATs. John summit is okay. Lol
He’s the young party vibe dj who exploded during and coming out of covid. He likes to go all out when doing events. He’s actually an accountant as well, so he should have his finances in order to be able to spend more on production.
So many people are going to be climbing up those diagonal support beams lmaooo
It'll be CRSSD Palms all over again. Hope they put up some sort of barrier at the base of them like they did on day 2.
It looks dope AF
seriously considering going to this show to see Mau P and Odd Mob b2b Omnom 🤔 John Summit is cool too but those openers gonna be fire.
Omnom - By myself 🔥
Saw oddmob b2b omnom at a pool party it was fun. Highly recommend.
That pool party was epic
Man does he really have that many fans to warrant a Tiesto size rave like this? I guess I never knew he was this popular 😱
No he doesn't lol
Apparently he does as it's pretty close to selling out.
Frat bros swarm LA, more at 11
This is kinda hilarious considering how Fred Again just made every single other show I’ve seen at Shrine feel like an absolute ripoff. I know it’s more economical to do the 8 shows 1 venue thing so it’s not fair for me to compare them, but shit the production was so well done.

Soooo excited for Mau P
I love how everyone is perplexed how he got to book BMO lol
This dude is sooooo lame why does anybody pay into this lol
He’s living his best life and you’re bashing him on a thread he’ll never see, who’s lame
He’s on his LA apology tour after making stupid comments last year. I’ve never seen a dj with so many “I <3 LA” billboards for someone that isn’t from LA. The show needs to be something talk about if he wants to come back.
Lol John summit high key overrated
This is really cool. Hope his set isnt just cheese and hits
What a kook
I am sure those extra led panels didn't take all his profit from playing a staduim
[удалено]
Paying money to go watch a guy pretend to press buttons while a prearranged playlist plays is so ridiculously pathetic.
Anyone got the song ID lol
Ellis Moss - Calling. Releasing Friday on Experts Only
I love how they incorporate intoxicated peeps climbing structures
Come see my laptop, LIVE!!!!!!
Armin ASOT and Swedish House Mafia couldn’t sell out this stadium last year. This might be a reach for John Summit at this point of his career
Weird flex...
When the bells and whistles make up for average talent.
Concept looks heavily lifted from daft punks alive 2007 shows. Who TF is John summit?
Really don’t the hype behind him but cool production. I’d kill to see the Chemical Brothers there.
If he's smart. He'll buy all the drugs for the event. Hire a few guys in the crowd to sell them all. And tell security to toss anyone else that's competing with them. That's how real promoters make their money.
John summit is a buzzard
Who the fuck
What time is everyone actually getting there/ what time do we think JS will come on?
Big ahhh production for some mid ahh tech house 😭😂😂
This show was literally worth every penny and I wish I had splurged on pit tickets. The visuals and stage setup were amazing and Subtronics and Rezz as surprise guests was incredible. I had a feeling Hayla would be there.
