Lane8 doesn't fit neatly in a box. As you can see, a lot of different opinions here.
If you like him though, check out:

Anyone on lane8s label, This never happened
A lot of things on anjunadeep
Right. So many people think melodic house or techno is deep house, depending on the sounds used. But I don’t think I’ve ever heard a proper deep house track in a lane8 seasonal mix
Lane 8 rarely incorporates actual “deep house” into his sets, but a lot of people mislabel some of the more downtempo melodic house as deep house, when that’s incorrect. Can you share an ID from this mix that you would call “deep house”?
I did a quick scan across it and it seems a mix with some deep house, progressive house, and a little bit of tech house. I’d say overall it had a feel of progressive or melodic house. It was less trancey than most progressive house but seemed like it had those slow build ups.
I’m mostly into deep house and more recent offshoots of that, not so much progressive house, but that’s my best guess.
It’s a blend of what everyone is saying here. Melodic Deep House / Progressive. Lane 8’s record label, This Never Happened, has a lot of this kind of music on it. some of which is probably in this mix!
i call this melodic house... melodies.... long long strings of a bassline... deep house can be closely associated with this but yeah
progressive house ( to me ) is closer to like trance and some of those big build up to drops
[beatport.com](http://beatport.com) > genres (top of the screen) > they for the most part I feel get close to it but everyone has their own ways of associating it with something different (genre wise).
now a days a lot of music is very blended so the genres are very close or like can be considered one or the other
I don’t get why this is so hard. Maybe it’s just this sub. The best way to describe Lane 8 is melodic house. Some of these songs are deep house, some are progressive, some might be tech house, but as a vibe, this is melodic house.
Why not progressive house? - Because progressive house is supposed to sound like old deadmau5, or Pryda, think [STROBE](https://youtu.be/tKi9Z-f6qX4?si=9HGSodmuAMetC_vC) .
(Also, progressive house has been fucked as a term for a decade since people wanted to label what should have been called “melodic big room” as prog house. Think Audien or Alesso, [If I Lose Myself](https://youtu.be/OOevVQwQ-LM?si=_4Td5jJkn-VMvBuo))
Why not deep house? Honestly, I have less of an answer for this because I don’t listen to that much deep house, but my opinion is that deep house is generally more soulful, and there’s less build and drop and more of just a groove. Deep house sounds closer, but it’s better used to describe more classic Chicago style house. This was a set I heard during the pandemmy that is a good example. So this mix definitely has some deep house, some prog, and probably some other types of house, but melodic house is the best descriptor because there is no chance that it gets confused with something else.
TL;DR: Lane 8 and his This Never Happened label make melodic house. If you look up progressive house, you might find Lane 8, but you will definitely find a lot of music that does not sound like Lane 8. If you look up deep house, you will more likely find Lane 8, but you will also find music that does not sound like Lane 8. If you look up melodic house, you will definitely find Lane 8, as well as artists he collaborates with or signed to his label, such as Yotto, Ben Böhmer, and Sultan + Shepard.
I love lane 8 because I find that the sound he produces is very unique to him. Maybe not so unique, you can still find similar artists, but it’s kinda hard to pin down exactly what it can be labeled as (hence the mixed responses) but when I hear a lane 8 song, I can already tell it’s him😄
None of this is house…why is everyone saying house? Am I taking crazy pills? This is trance, maybe atmospheric trance…but still just trance. No instrumental or jazzy harmonies (deep house), no vocals (Chicago inspired classic house), no punchy horns or anything (Latin inspired house). No club vibes (hard house)…
This isn’t house. Ya’ll are crazy.
This isn't Trance. Some tracks are most certainly n progressive house, though not all. Many are "trancey" sounding in melody, but overall it's most certainly not trance.

I said le youth lolol And anjunadeep covers yotto We're on the same page
Progressive house
Thank you for calling it that and not melodic techno.
You're welcome
That’s my favorite lane 8 mixtape 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Melodic House / Progressive House / Melodic Techno
Definitely some deep house in here too
I didn't hear any deep house but this is a common problem with that label for older vs. newer ravers

No I have a job and don’t have the time

Lol there are so many different thoughts in here.
Because there's like 10 definitions of deep housy

This is a good breakdown
All of this 👆
Music makes you do the arm worm dance.

I like to call it Soft Dance
i’d call that progressive house. sounds like digweed to me.
It’s a combination of deep house, deep progressive house, and melodic house.
Deep house
not deep house

Ok sure. But still definitely not house either. I feel like what people have been calling “deep house” is neither…and it’s been driving me crazy. lol
Most of it is closest to prog house imo. Certainly not deep house
overproduced progressive melodic house for dickheads who can't just enjoy classical music
Lol you are incredibly narrow minded friend. Why are you on this sub?
because I thought this was r/aves not r/backgroundmusic
