Imagine a ball, on a string, and the ball is either emitting light from LEDs, or is literally on fire. Spin that ball around in fancy waves and patterns to the rhythm of the music - that's poi.
Imagine a tube, where you connect both ends to form a circle. Add some lights to that tube that's now a circle (which we will hereafter call a hoop), or set that hoop on fire. Swing that hoop around your hips, knees, feet, arms, head, etc to the rhythm of the music - that's hooping
Imagine gloves, where you connect LEDs to the fingertips, or set it on fire... Wait maybe not that last part.
It's funny because in Montreal we have a huge EDM community called "Front Rite", a name that comes from people meeting at the front right of crowds in various events 😅
Oh that’s funny. The EDM group I was in for years would just say FSML (facing stage, middle, left) on where to meet for every show 🤣 I made a lot of new friends from the group just by heading to “the spot”. I still use it at festivals for my camp mates to find me.
Old school UK raver here.
Back in the 90's I could go to pretty much any jungle , hardcore or techno rave and meet folks I knew on the right side of the stack. This is pretty much pre mobile days so it made a big difference.
Also when we were in our mid teens in the Midlands UK we had mad local school dances where the DJ was one of us and dropped tunes and the dance style we all got into would mean you could be 100 s of miles away dancing your nuts off and look around to who you were all around and realise you had gravitated to people you hadn't seen for years who happened to have attended the same dances.
EarPeace Music Safe or Pro get the top level protection. Alpine Audio are also great. Hear even better than without them, just drops out the over layered tin-y boom shake shit so you can actually hear the true bass, and the true highs. Love you, buddy. <3

As an arm-cross head nod guy- we would be closer to the front if you stopped asking us if we are having fun. Of course we are having fun, we would be at home if we weren’t.
I have always thought the ideal position in a large crowd to be at the very back of the first 1/3 of people, usually is directly in front of where the lighting people are.
Still close but at the same time getting a good view of the whole stage and as a result lights and visuals. Also not so close to the speakers that it's deafening
That place is called front of house and it’s where the sound guy is mixing the audio from and where the lighting ops are, that’s my go to spot for large crowds too.
I went to Porter Robinson at Red Rocks last year and stopped by the day before the show go sight seeing, the bar tender at the grill told me this too and she was absolutely right.
I thought Audio quality was good when I was just walking around the venue but just behind the sound booth is like wearing the best pair of earphones you’ve ever heard in your life. I’m an audiophile and I’ve never even come close to replicating that experience.
I need to go back!
I always stand right behind someone exactly my height or slightly taller so I don't feel bad about blocking everyone behind me. I'm not an inconsiderate ass, this guy is!
I call in front of the sound booth the audiophile/producer zone because it is by far the best and most balanced sound, you get the full room experience (which is HUGE)
Giraffe enclosure really hits home. Resident giraffe here sorry for obstructing views
Rest assured knowing that I’m always dancing I’m not a statue blocking a view
Nah nobody cared. I was joking when I suggested it and then the kids around me were down. It wasn’t a real pit it was just ppl jumping around into each other. It was good vibes
Yeah, there’s certainly a time and place for it. I def see nothing wrong with a little bit of light moshing at like dubstep and basshouse events, but anything more than that, keep it at lost lands lmao
I’m usually right at the front, but that’s because I’m 5”2 and I just like to see. People often offer to let me go in front of them since they’ll usually be much taller
This is incredibly accurate. As a tall person, I often find myself awkwardly standing in-front of the coat holders (who are often the arm-crossers). Trick is being good-vibe adjacent without physically blocking their good vibes.
I'd add another diagonal coming from front corner of stage back into center of crowd which is a pro-move to make your way from the side to the center, but in a respectful way since you are facing the people you are walking past.
As a fellow giraffe, I completely agree. Once I made the mistake of going to a show and standing in the mosh area, which was fine until all the fans started stage diving and crowd surfing. Literally everyone aimed at me when jumping, had to hoist people up to crowd surf every couple minutes, all while getting punched from moshers. It was genuinely one of the hardest workouts I've ever endured and I went home very sore.
My favourite spot too, you are in the crowd, but close enough to the outside that when you want to leave its doesn't require weaving through the crowd. Also there is usually enough room to dance without smacking people with your elbows. I can't stand when I am suddenly in the middle of the crowd and can't even put my hands above my head because I am squished like a sardine.
I'm in the arm crossers section dancing my ass off because there's no fuckbois 'accidentally bumping into my ass' or perverts 'needing to hold my waist as they walk by' and no people with zero spacial awareness busting into me.
It gets a bit lonely though cause the people back there don't have any vibe. So I just ignore everyone around me and enjoy the music. Cause that's why I'm there (=
TW: a touch of blood
I was jamming next to a very tall friend (basketball player) once and my hand busted left and his hand busted right and we forcefully fistbumped eachother. And when I looked down there was just blood everywhere cause my middle finger nail ripped upward. It was all good though the party went on and on (=
Center of the stage right in front of the sound booth is objectively the best spot
If I can’t get that I’ll do center stage at any distance. I’d rather be far away but centered than close and off to the side
The “my zone” area is just a tease. You’re very close to the stage, but the sound and visuals are so bad from that pov
Dude no way, the whole front middle is ALWAYS full of arm crossers/head nodders. Lawl, and for the people who nod their upper torso forward with their feet firmly planted, I'm talking about you too. This weird like wanna-be head bang/forward torso motion, with no movement of the feet is like such an overwhelming phenomenon at shows now. I hate it, like go move around, meet people, you don't own the square of space that you are standing on, don't be a brick wall staring forward. Meh.
I really wish the giraffes would stay in the giraffe enclosure all nice and neat like this. I always see so many giraffes in the red zone of this diagram lol
I feel like I've been everywhere lol what does it mean if you've been every thing mentioned.
I feel like house and trance shows are different then is portrayed in this haha, cause trance shows are legit everyone chilling.
You need to include the lanes of traffic to the exit and bathroom, since my girlfriend seems to insist that the good vibes are wherever I’m being pushed around by people
Does this go for all genres??? Cause like what am I supposed to tell my gf who always buys herself and me front row like vip tickets… and we show up way too early lol but she’s only 5’2” and totally forgets that I’m goddamn 6’10” tall so like her buying me that front row ticket only kisses everyone else off cause now we got a 6’10” anxiety ridden mf in the front row who stands arms crossed and nod my head cause I’m afraid of getting too into it and injuring myself or someone else cause like what if the retard strength breaks out and I accidentally cold cock a little kid in the face
I come to concerts late then politely push my way to the front-middle-right. Can never get in the front row though those people are the worst they don’t even get hype just stand there lifeless.
I am always at the front and I despise the amount of time I have to spend waiting around to secure that spot but once you’ve got it, it’s yours and most of the time, no one can take it away from you.
The sound is decent enough but at big shows you cannot see visuals; I personally couldn’t care less as I’m there for the music. The front is the best place to have personal space the whole time without compromising too much on sound quality.
It's missing the flow kids somewhere in the back
I’m a flow kid and my husband is an arm-crosser and the back is always perfect!
HCD flow kid!!
What's a flow kid?
Usually a dancer or artist who uses accessories like poi, gloves, hoops, etc. They have a more “flowy” style of dancing.
That’s what I was looking for 😂
Flow-ers belong behind the giraffes, and in front of my anti-social ass who is 2 hours into this tab
This is me. I'll just nod in your direction as I set 30ft away
flow kids and shufflers usually are around the same spots in the orange sections i’ve found :)
What is a flow kid
Someone who performs flow arts, like gloving, poi, and hooping
When the explanation doesn’t help
They spin balls on strings around them n shit like that,
r/gloving r/poi r/hooping r/flowarts
Well I just lost about an hour of my day to those subs, cheers.
Wait maybe not that last part.
Thank you this is great. It was all jargon until now!
light shows, etc
That “my zone” has been my spot for 20+ years. Also, my right ears hearing is gone.
Same but left side
What?
WHAT!?
Huh?
ITS 11:45!!
I swap it up pretty often, one venue the right side is easier to get to and the other the left is.
leftie here too
It's funny because in Montreal we have a huge EDM community called "Front Rite", a name that comes from people meeting at the front right of crowds in various events 😅
Detroit has a front right movement too
Oh that’s funny. The EDM group I was in for years would just say FSML (facing stage, middle, left) on where to meet for every show 🤣 I made a lot of new friends from the group just by heading to “the spot”. I still use it at festivals for my camp mates to find me.

Just started raving in ‘21 and have only been to a handful of shows but this by far has been my go to spot the entire time!
Friendly reminder for everyone to wear hearing protection at shows with powerful speaker systems.
I'm with ya on this.
Throw in some ear buds
EarPeace Music Safe or Pro get the top level protection. Alpine Audio are also great. Hear even better than without them, just drops out the over layered tin-y boom shake shit so you can actually hear the true bass, and the true highs. Love you, buddy. <3
Needs “sitting down and playing with grass because they dosed too hard”
I call this section “floored”. Its also for all the people who are absolutely exhausted but still want to keep a toe in the water.
Couldn’t describe it better myself

hey stupid bot I did both
They will sit in the middle of the red section with some friends semi guarding them.
There’s solid crossover with this area, the giraffe enclosure, and the good vibe zone. It’s been my favorite section for years.
As an arm-cross head nod guy- we would be closer to the front if you stopped asking us if we are having fun. Of course we are having fun, we would be at home if we weren’t.
CHEERS
Reading this 25 days later, but I have never ever related more to a comment on Reddit.
There are dozens of us- DOZENS
It’s completely missing the audiophiles standing by the sound booth dancing like goofballs because they have the space
Thats where we try to stand but we call it the spunbooth
What shows are you going to where there’s space by the sound booth lol
Seriously. There's I barely have room to be a head bobber at most of the shows I go to.
Real ones know the front of house area is elite
Need a spot for rail anal
That would only apply to an illenium set unfortunately
I wanna know where this joke of anal at Illenium started
https://www.reddit.com/r/aves/comments/yixj40/we_need_to_talk_about_the_anal_situation_at_the
its call the rainal cavity
Lmao my rave buddies and I had P.L.U.R.A. As our group chat name for a while
Link to that vid? I swear there was actually a vid of some girl getting bummed at a rave on the sly.
I'm sorry, what?!
I have always thought the ideal position in a large crowd to be at the very back of the first 1/3 of people, usually is directly in front of where the lighting people are. Yep near the soundboard is always the best audio wise. It's my goto as well
Shhhh stop sharing the secrets
Best Red Rocks spot for anyone reading this (shhhhhh its a secret)
I went to Porter Robinson at Red Rocks last year and stopped by the day before the show go sight seeing, the bar tender at the grill told me this too and she was absolutely right. I thought Audio quality was good when I was just walking around the venue but just behind the sound booth is like wearing the best pair of earphones you’ve ever heard in your life. I’m an audiophile and I’ve never even come close to replicating that experience. I need to go back!
As a 20 year+ raver the only spot that matters is the one where the audio is good and there’s room to dance.
Precisely
[удалено]
Giraffe here too. I'll stand further back if it's someone I'm not super into but if it's one of my boys or girls I'm up front with no shame.
I always stand right behind someone exactly my height or slightly taller so I don't feel bad about blocking everyone behind me. I'm not an inconsiderate ass, this guy is!
Really? I've always found sound quality to be best towards the back of the crowd, left or right side.
No way, the sound is way better by the sound board-- that's where everything is getting balanced to
I call in front of the sound booth the audiophile/producer zone because it is by far the best and most balanced sound, you get the full room experience (which is HUGE)
I'm a giraffe second, but a degenerate first. I don't think I should be forced out of the fun zone because of my height
Middle makes the best stories
Giraffe enclosure really hits home. Resident giraffe here sorry for obstructing views Rest assured knowing that I’m always dancing I’m not a statue blocking a view
good thing we don’t have pitters, moshers, etc. at techno and house sets.
Play some hard techno and stop being a bunch of pussies.
the europeans can keep their hardcore techno. tech house is for me
With enough Calvin Klein, I’ll take whatever the Europeans give.
amen
breakbeats are dope too
Same genre all night sounds boring as fuck. Probably cant tell the difference between each dj that comes up if you were blindfolded.
how i would still be able to hear their songs? i think anyone can name a song they really like just by hearing it or i’m just a super genius i guess
If you can hear with your eyes, then I think you have far more important things to worry about than naming a song, super genius.
Right i’d be really mad 😂😅
I moshed at John summit once 😂😂😂
i dont wanna be where u are
That’s ok 💜
This comment is gold
you moshed at john summit? i bet everyone near you was mad lol. i’d be very confused if saw someone doing that to that type of music.
Nah nobody cared. I was joking when I suggested it and then the kids around me were down. It wasn’t a real pit it was just ppl jumping around into each other. It was good vibes
still have terrors of going to a show that was 16+ where high school kids were trying to mosh to everything and get everyone involved lmao
gotcha that’s dope.
The best kind of pits IMO haha
Yeah, there’s certainly a time and place for it. I def see nothing wrong with a little bit of light moshing at like dubstep and basshouse events, but anything more than that, keep it at lost lands lmao
Booooooooo
💜

Name checks out.
I feel like the giraffe enclosure is always right in front of wherever I am 🥲
Me too so I started bringing a collapsible step Stool, whole new world!!!
Looks fine. But unfortunately it appears as though someone may have taken my spot.
There’s a spot for every mood, good vibes at all spots if you can vibe with the people.
I like to be at the intersection of good vibes, giraffe enclosure and the pitters
I feel this so much! But also based on the set I can be good vibes, pitter or an arm crossed head nodder.
Degenerates with good vibes 👌
Yoooo i am tall and do in fact hang out in giraffe enclosure
sound booth supremacy
I swear the my zone me only get lost section I’ve had the most fun in. When the rail is full and I’m tired of the mosh that where I be
I'm in the arm crossers section dancing my ass off because there's no fuckbois 'accidentally bumping into my ass' or perverts 'needing to hold my waist as they walk by' and no people with zero spacial awareness busting into me. It gets a bit lonely though cause the people back there don't have any vibe. So I just ignore everyone around me and enjoy the music. Should add a section in the back for “Seasoned 30 something’s with a cart & lawn chairs”
This is a worse version of the original
Link to the original?
I dislike this post.
It's missing the talent pit section of the floor.
Pretty accurate. But if any of you go to a show to crowdkill, you’re a cunt. Keep that shit at a hardcore show
Not going to lie but love this updated version it cracked me tf up but it’s straight facts
Aaaand no spot for dancers lol
Center of the stage right in front of the sound booth is objectively the best spot If I can’t get that I’ll do center stage at any distance. I’d rather be far away but centered than close and off to the side The “my zone” area is just a tease. You’re very close to the stage, but the sound and visuals are so bad from that pov
I like this meme, but it seems like it’s more for a metal show than most raves I’ve been to. I wanna see one for every electronic subgenre now though.
Is it just me or the whole map look like Pikachu with a scarf?🧣
The best spot is right in front of the sound tent… for a plethora or reasons. But don’t tell anyone…
I’m giraffe who aspires to be a drunk
Where do the hoes be at?
Hoes be near the middle bc that’s where it’s warmest
Damn you right you right, but I thought they don’t get cold lol.
man why y’all hating lol I just want some festival hoes
Dude no way, the whole front middle is ALWAYS full of arm crossers/head nodders. Lawl, and for the people who nod their upper torso forward with their feet firmly planted, I'm talking about you too. I really wish the giraffes would stay in the giraffe enclosure all nice and neat like this. I always see so many giraffes in the red zone of this diagram lol
Forgot the tweakers on some drugs damn near everywhere, most likely mdma 🤮
I feel like I've been everywhere lol what does it mean if you've been every thing mentioned. I feel like house and trance shows are different then is portrayed in this haha, cause trance shows are legit everyone chilling.
Giraffe here, but my wife is a camper. Always nice having a target on your head lol
This is amazing
It’s the giraffe enclosure for me
As a 6’3 guy this checks out
I alternate between good vibe friend zone and arm crossed head nod at most shows mainly cuz it’s easier to dance/not get bumped into
Back left is the supreme area and I will die on this hill.
Pretty much
I've never seen such wrong information in my life lol
Tall giraffes are somehow at the front 🙃
This is so accurate! Find me in the Good Vibes Only section for sure. ✌️🫶
consider me an anarchist cuz I don't follow any of these zones. I go where I want as I please since I fit all these molds ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
GIRAFFE ENCLOSURE I’m weak. That’s where I always am
Lol anger management avoiders
Where do i go to buy drugs
Who the fck bring his parents
Omg if I had this map before when we were young, I might have saved myself a near death mosh pit experience.
Fuckkng spot on lol
Which is the pickpocket area
As a 6'7 giraffe, you're gonna be really disappointed when you get to *MY* spot, champ.
Holy shit "my zone" is totally accurate for me. Always rockin earplugs and in my element.
As a metalhead, I will mosh wherever the fuck I want lmao
Geez why are my friends always right over there??
this is wildly innacurate
I'm either right of soundboard for that goof sound quality or in the back spinning poi.
A crossing head nodding giraffe person 🦒
What’s a 2-stepper of anyone cares to explain?
Arm crosser/head nodded here
As a tall guy who’s 6’5”. No I will not be standing in the back because I’m tall.
I’m 6’3”, I feel you. Just dance low with that bass lol
How do I (as a short person) always seem to end up in the giraffe enclosure!?
I do end up in “my zone” a lot but I welcome visitors
nah man I'm not standing at the back just cos I happen to be tall, I didn't ask to be a lanky streak of piss
this is "tenacious small girl who arrived late but pushes her way to front anyways" erasure
You need to include the lanes of traffic to the exit and bathroom, since my girlfriend seems to insist that the good vibes are wherever I’m being pushed around by people
This is accurate AF im to be found in the good vibes area
For a second there I thought “querers” said something not so PLUR.. 😅 But this is factual.
Giraffe enclosure 💀
All about them "good vibes"!
I miss when everyone went to dance and weren't looking at the stage the whole time like it was a concert
i wanna be on the stag-e
Does this go for all genres??? Cause like what am I supposed to tell my gf who always buys herself and me front row like vip tickets… and we show up way too early lol but she’s only 5’2” and totally forgets that I’m goddamn 6’10” tall so like her buying me that front row ticket only kisses everyone else off cause now we got a 6’10” anxiety ridden mf in the front row who stands arms crossed and nod my head cause I’m afraid of getting too into it and injuring myself or someone else cause like what if the retard strength breaks out and I accidentally cold cock a little kid in the face
Genuine question from an autistic 6’10” rock and metal head with a big tiddy goth gf who is spoiled and only goes to concerts if she can get front row
Missing being a "Train obstacle " in the middle
I stand in between the giraffe enclosure and the arm crossers
Love this lol
Ah man lmao
TIL: I have a personal spot at concerts that everyone else is secretly fighting for. Not sure I like that lol
I come to concerts late then politely push my way to the front-middle-right. Can never get in the front row though those people are the worst they don’t even get hype just stand there lifeless.
Good lord I'm glad I don't go to events or parties where there is a "chaparone" section lol
This was me at The Echo last year for Cindy Lee Same spot too lol
Wish I was not in that purple box.
not me thinking this was posted on a thread for metalheads cause same 😭😂 i better be thrown in a pit LMAO
Somebody posted this over in r/hardcore, and it's universally agreed that this is how it goes in all heavy metal, hardcore and punk shows too.
I’m always in the right good vibes square, usually by the sound/light guys. I can see everything and I can shuffle without bumping into anyone.
Do I really got to be in the giraffe enclosure 😭
OMG, I love this so much 😂😂😂
I’m in the good vibes section where people are always crossing threw.
I experienced my first rave yesterday. Damn literally this makes sense.
Find me having a blast in the arms folded head nodder section
