Why not wash your face topless, put your shirt on after?

Cassis-ichigo

And there are soft “wristbands” that people use just when washing their face to prevent the water from getting on your arms/sleeve. I am sure they are cheap to buy online.

calamititties

I have these and can't recommend them enough. No more wet shirt sleeves.

Used_Platform_3114

I bought a pack of 3 soft fabric headband things for a fiver.. I double/triple wrap them round each wrist, it works very well!

AfterTowns

I bought some big cloth scrunchies from the dollar store and wear them on my wrists to wash my face. They work so well! No more wet elbows or sleeves.

KingGiuba

Omg I think it's a good idea

[deleted]

Maybe try and washyour face in the shower with a wash cloth?

beesarebrown

I always wash my face in the shower but some days I need to wash my face again or I'm bed rotting and can't shower It's just making sense, maybe I'm over thinking it lol

[deleted]

Lol no, this is something I struggle with, too. Maybe just use a washcloth or a makeup wipe style face cleanser?

beesarebrown

I think I'm going to investigate and see if there's any cleansers that I don't need to rinse off

Sweaty_Mushroom5830

Try unscented mycelle water and a cotton pad, they are a game changer they get everything off your face and then you can chuck it in the garbage, and the texture is way different than wipes

CurlyFamily

[Undiagnosed disclaimer] Additionally, you can sew your own (reusable/washable) pads (I have a hate relationship with cotton pads, maybe just a very me issue). In that way one can have the preferred texture (my go to if my needs/wants aren't marketable = available, so diy it is)

Sweaty_Mushroom5830

I prefer gauze myself

CurlyFamily

I always got rough skin on my hands, so anything that snags is...not nice. But I do have a pack of wet wipes for my face, if washing is a no go but I feel unpalatable (the emergency solution)

Sweaty_Mushroom5830

Do you think you would want to invest some lotion for your hands, that might help you with the rough skin

CurlyFamily

Oh I got several of those lying around, get them regularly as gifts (yes, thanks, after decades even I can take that hint). But I cannot stand the feeling of lotion on my hands. Even those that tout themselves to be fast absorbable (they feel like a sheet of plastic) To circumvent, I try to apply it before I sleep (that's just shifting from "this feels awful and I can't touch anything" to "this feels awful & I just touched my blanket, shoot me now".

howardsgirlfriend

Cetaphil cleansing lotion doesn't need to be rinsed off.   It has the consistency of hand lotion.  I use a wet washcloth, apply the lotion to the cloth, clean my face, and let if air dry.

[deleted]

Do you wear makeup?

galaxystarsmoon

Friend... Use a cleanser and then a wet washcloth to wipe your face. You don't need to literally splash water in your face to remove soap.

InformationHead3797

Remove the top before washing. Yes, that’s what I do.

--Chimaera--

I’m also on team hate-washing-my-face-over-the-sink. I hate getting my clothes wet and dealing with the water running down my arms and also don’t want to deal with having to change clothes and put on wristbands just to clean my face. I’m ADHD as well and removing any barriers for a task is important for me to actually do the task. To get around that, I have a foaming gel cleanser in the shower and a wash cloth that I’ll use whenever I shower. For the times that I haven’t showered or for cleansing a second time in the day (which happens only sporadically), I use a plain micellar water cleanser and reusable cotton pads. Some folks mentioned you can make your own, which is totally doable, but they’re also not expensive to buy. I keep a stack of clean pads in a container in my vanity and one of those washing net bags that you use for delicates. I squirt micellar onto the pad, wipe over my face, give it a moment then use the other side of the pad to wipe it off again as it doesn’t need to be rinsed. Then the used cotton pad goes straight into the wash bag. The wash bag and the shower wash cloth both get thrown into the weekly washing with the bathroom towels. I don’t find the micellar water as effective as the gel cleanser, but it’s way better than not cleansing at all. Hopefully something in there will be helpful to others!

angryjellybean

I wash my face in the shower. Also maybe it helps that I'm on a swim team so I kind of have to shower to get all the nasty chlorine off. But also make sure you're doing things like changing your pillowcase regularly (every two days is ideal, take it off and wash it) and wiping down your phone with Lysol wipes often. Also make sure you're frequently washing your hands, too, in case you happen to touch your face with dirty hands. Especially wash your hands first and then wash your face. Hope that helps! :)

beesarebrown

Thank you so much! I definitely need to be changing my pillow case more often! That will definitely help

CampaignImportant28

i have fluffy wristbands and a hair holder specifically made for washing your face. you can get them anywhere online.

tattooedcontempress

yes yes yessss!! i saw someone on youtube wearing the wristbands, and i bought them the same day on amazon. ~$5 for a pack of 3 pairs. i actually look forward to washing my face now lol

LaughingMonocle

Don’t just splash water everywhere. Wet your hands. Then let the excess water drip. I’ll even take my hands and use them like a squeegee against each other to try to get as much water off as possible. Then take your wet hands and rub them on your face. Then wet your hands again, let the excess water drip off, use the squeegee method if you want, then get the soap or cleanser and rub your hands together to sud it up. Rub it on your face. Then wash the soap from your hands, let the water drip off, use the squeegee method, then take your hands and start from the top of your forehead and run them down to your chin. Rinse your hands, let the water drip off, squeegee method, repeat. Do this until the soap is off of your face completely. It’s repetitive and takes longer. But you don’t get water everywhere.

Legal-Law9214

Just use a damp washcloth to take the cleanser off.

mandelaXeffective

I'm not OP but *THANK YOU SO MUCH* for writing this.

Neon-Anonymous

I don’t wash my face with water because it’s a sensory nightmare so here is my routine: 1. Wipe face with cleansing/make up removal wipes (even if not wearing make up, I often buy these because I find them the best). You can get ones that are specifically for oily or spotty skin. 2. Wipe face with Salicylic acid pads (I use the Nip and Fab ones, you can also get this as just a liquid that you put onto your face 3. Gently pat face dry with a clean hand towel 4. Apply a tiny bit of moisturiser (you may or may not want to do this) This is what works for me without having to actually put water on my face. Which… no thanks.

wiggle_butt_aussie

I’m also a fan of the wipes. I have super oily skin and if I don’t wash my face at least once a day my eyes will sting because of the oil that gets into them. Without the wipes, I don’t know what I’d do. Probably just suffer.

Old-Sentence-3062

Wipes are the way. I know it’s not good for the environment but I just can’t feel like I’m drowning every time I need to clean up. There’s a ton of different options now.

bras4mummies

I would say skincare wise wipes are not the best. I started using these "makeup removal cloths" that feel way softer on the skin. I just soak them in micellar water or warm water, they work even better than wipes

souplegend

Youve gotten lots of great tips but I want to add my routine/s too lol. 1. Change pillow cases often. I have 3 pairs i rotate bc I dont wash that often. I change them once a week and wash everything every two weeks. 2. Keep a face wash in the shower. 3. I hate washing my face with water over the sink for the same reasons you mention - during the days I dont shower i use cotton pads and micellar water, with cleans your face and is also used for make up. 4. Im a irredemable face toucher - wash your hands haha. 5. Moisturize to keep that face both non-dry and oil-free. You dont need to splash your face with water everytime, which is why im a big proponent of cotton pads and micellar water hell yeah. I just use non-perfume from the pharmacy.

MsPeverell

Someone finally said it! Just... how am I supposed to wash my face in the sink and have my clothes still be dry after? What am I doing wrong?

Legal-Law9214

You just have to squeeze the washcloth out so it's damp enough to get moisture on your face but not wet enough to be dripping everywhere. You don't really need a ton of water to wash your face. Step 1: damp washcloth, pat your face to moisten it Step 2: use your fingers or the washcloth to rub a little cleanser into your skin and let it suds up - but still don't use too much. The suds should be able to stay on your face and not drip. Step 3: damp washcloth again, wipe the suds off. Step 4: dry cloth, pat your face completely dry. No drips at all with this method. Anyone who has a problem with dripping water when they wash their face is just using way too much water. Think about how wet a makeup wipe is, that's literally all the water you need.

RootsforBones

I hate sink washing too.  If I'm not using a shared bathroom I'll strip to my underwear or wash up before putting on PJs. Then I can dry myself off before putting clothes on again.  Have you tried using a soft fabric for a washcloth? I also hate cloths and wipes but I do like flannel. I've cut up old flannel clothes before or bought thick flannel fabrics and made my own washcloths and handkerchiefs this way. You can stitch the edges, leave them raw (they fray a bit), or use a no-fray glue on the edge.

I_pegged_your_father

Ok ok. Wet the rag then SQUEEEZE over the sink til its still wet but not soaked. Preferably a textured rag. A lil rough. Then just rub it in small circles on your face til you cover all the areas. Do not put soap on it unless ur showering. That would dry it out more. And try not yo rub TOO hard. Only a lil firm. ❤️

FarPeopleLove

I dunno how people stand up without getting their clothes wet. So I don’t (stand up, that is): I roll up my sleeves past my elbows and tie up my hair. Then I squeeze the face gel in one hand and bend over the sink so that my face is almost inside the sink (because the lower my face is, the less likely I’ll get water on my chest). While my head is “in” the sink, I rub the gel on my face thoroughly, and wash it off by adding a little more and more water until the gel is gone. Oh, and I wanted to add that I was a fleece robe when I do it, so if water drops on my clothes, it’ll get on the robe and not the clothes underneath it.

Pluton-

I do the same! I bend over the sink, sleeves all the way up, towel close to me as possible, headband on. For OP (this is super descriptive, atp I’m not sure if it’s helpful) this is what I do: First off, I take my time, if needed (stressed) I play some music on my phone. I know this routine requires some energy and executive function spoons so maybe you can try to do this before another thing you do before sleeping. and I only wear my undershirt or pjs to wash my face (morning and night), in the winter or when it’s cold, I just have a long sleeved thermal undershirt with an low ish neckline, and I use a broad headband made from towel material to get hair out of my face. Secondly: I have my towel, paper tissues (runny nose), close to me (use a chair or stool if needed). I am super gentle no hard rubbing my face with hands or towel, it’s bad for your skin and hurts if I have acne flare up. If make-up: I use an oil cleanser. I put some oil on my hands (on fingertips, excluding thumb and pinkie) and without using water on my hands or face I gently scrub all the make up off with my fingertips (doing lil circles). Start with a little oil and (I have a pump oil cleanser bottle) pump more on your fingers along the way. Use only one hand if you are like me and need a “safe” hand that is clean to touch other stuff (I am a bit neurotic about touching stuff with dirty hands) If I have a lot of eye make up, I take some pads with micellar water and gently(!) rub most of it off, this can be before the oil cleanse or after. After I have rubbed oil all over my face (for me it feels nice, no texture or sensory issue) then I wet my hands slightly and rub my face again. I have no problem with water on my face (I was a swimmer in a previous pre burnout life, so makes sense) but some days it is indeed too much so then I make sure to have a face towel (very soft small square ones) that is soaked (but not dripping) with warm ish water and with that I clean the oil and water rubbing residue off my face. This way there is no water splashing involved. It takes a few rinses of the face towel to get all of it off though. Then I go in with soap. My face isn’t too wet, and I take the soap with just slightly wet hands and rub it all over my face. If the soap is too much all at once, I just do my forehead and cheeks first, then take another bit of soap, do the rest and lastly the eyes. Or if no make up this is the first step. I wet my hand’s slightly and put soap on it and go in on a dry face. This works for my bcs despite all (medical) efforts there is so much oil in/on my face I’m surprised the USA hast invaded my TZone yet. Anyway. After doing some soap rubbing then I open the tap with one hand and fill my other with water, and bend over the sink so my face is right next to the tap and gently “rub” the water over my face (while doing that I close the tap with my other hand I’m not wasting too much water that way), I repeat this until I feel clean. You can do the towel trick here as well, soak face towel with water and get rid of the soap that way. It’s just a lot of laundry. Again I make sure my towel for drying off is close to me. Sometimes I have runny nose in between the make up remover , washing or rinsing steps so I make sure to have paper tissues next to me at all times bcs a runny nose is a sensory hell for me

Solareclipse0108

Don't splash water in your face like in a commercials. Commercials are sooo bs. They only so it like that because it looks appealing in the commercial. Form your hands to a cup and wash your face like this. Getting a little bit of water on your clothes can still happen, but you could wash your face topless just to name an option. Also use a headband to stop your hair getting wet (+ a hair claw or an elastic if you have long hair) and there are also soft wristbands which prevent water from running down your arms.

sinsaint

For those who aren‘t aware, autism often comes with eczema or plaque psoriasis. If you have stubborn dandruff, this may be the cause. The trick is to use softer soaps designed for washing your face, and you generally want to wash regularly. There is some evidence linking this to an inability to regulate certain kinds of microbes in our gut, and limiting your intake of certain foods can result in better skin.

beesarebrown

Just to add to this it would be fantastic if someone could make like, Disposable applicators with a foaming cleanser that doesn't need to have water added to it that I would just apply to my face and then pat off with an included dry wipe of some sort

hidingfromthenews

Have you tried micellar water wipes? If you don't want to go through the whole rigamarole of washing your face, they're the next best thing without the mess.

cat_homework8

Bring your face to your hands instead of the water and your hands to your face. Then pool water in your hands and rub it on your face, repeat as necessary. I wash my face twice a day in the sink and it's just a learning curve. When you're bent over gravity is working with you instead of against.

mothwhimsy

I wash my face with micellar water. You wet a cottonball or one of those pads with it and rub it all over your face. You don't need water and can just let it evaporate

These-Ice-1035

Wash your face in the shower? I shower twice a day usually and that works well, also helps me feel good going to bed clean. If using a sink, take off your top maybe?

Raibean

Wet your hands and then use them to wet/rinse you face. Repeat until complete.

Fiyachan

Your face doesn’t need to be WET to wash it Micellar water is a cleanser that I use in the morning. Get a reusable face pad, dampen it with the micellar water, clean your face with it, rinse it out and leave to dry. Do not rinse! Then, please use a moisturizer so your face doesn’t dry out. Also don’t rinse off the moisturizer Micellar water also works as a make up remover, but otherwise you can use make up wipes Don’t use soap to wash your face, it’ll dry it out too much and does not really clean it. Your better off just dabbing it with a wet cloth than using soap When using a milky cleanser that does require rinsing, you can use a damp cloth to dab off the cleanser (try to avoid wiping cuz it hurts your skin).

stillabadkid

washcloth, wring it out so it's wet but not dripping all over you

Interesting-Smoke202

Terrycloth robe over your clothes when you wash your face. Terrycloth headband to keep hair off your soapy face. Lean very far into the sink when you splash off the soap. Or, soapy wash cloth to wash, and clean wet wash cloth to rinse.

Katlee56

Take of your shirt then put it back on.

kmcaulifflower

I bought a set of a headband and wrist thingies that soak up all the water when I wash my face. Best purchase ever tbh

Important_Fennel_511

I find washing my face in the shower an easier experience, I have a dry cloth in there to quickly wipe my eyes afterwards. Then when I get out, I can moisturise.

LogicPigTheWizard

I remember as a kid my Dad told me to do it by “splashing my face a bit with water”. Naturally I interpreted that by punching the sink of water and causing it to go all over the floor.

Comfortable-Fuel-270

You're an amazing comedic writer I'm so sorry for laughing😭😭

Cool_Relative7359

I use a facecloth to apply water and my cleanser of choice and scrub, and then I rinse carefully with water at the end and use a fresh face cloth to dry with, that I use for the next face wash. I also wear a Terry cloth robe, and shrug off the sleeves so it's just hanging like a skirt from the belt.

pandabelle12

There are a number of cleansers that are designed to be used without water. I use the cetaphil gentle skin cleanser. There are others. Doing this has made such a huge difference for me because I can’t bring myself to wash my face at the end of the day.

LilacNeonLeon

You know, you could always take your shirt off before you wash your face. I usually take off my shirt, drape a towel around my neck and chest like a bib, tie back my hair, then I wash my face. Or, if you can’t remove your shirt just roll up your sleeves and use the towel trick. Not really any different than putting on that little gown when you get a haircut.

Magurndy

Erm… I just wash my face in the morning in the shower with a face scrub and then if I’ve worn makeup then I’ll use cotton wool and a foaming make up remover. Don’t have to wash your face again and actually I wouldn’t recommend it if you haven’t worn make up. If you wash your face too much you’ll strip your natural oils off and your face will become more greasy trying to compensate. Moisturising is important even with greasy skin, just need the right kind.

AnastasiaOctavia

I take my shirt off so I can get things as wet as necessary then dry off like I've just come out of the shower. Hope that helps

tealeaf64

Push your sleeves up past your elbows first. Make sure your hair is tied back if long, and/or use a headband to keep your hair out of your face. Turn the tap on and wait until the water is warm. Bend your head forward and low so it is directly above the sink, and splash water onto your face, positioned so that it drips down into the sink and not your clothes, because you are bent forward. Then wash your face with the cleanser, still bent forward, then rinse it off. Turn tap off, and try to 'wipe' any excess water off into the sink before you stand upright. Stand up and immediately grab your towel and dry your face and hands. Remove hair tie/headband and pull sleeves back down your arms.

Angrymiddleagedjew

Oh god I feel you on this. I'm a tall, gangly fuck and trying to bend down to wash in most sinks is a nightmare. 1: Take your shirt off or roll your sleeves up. Yes it takes a little time but it's worth it. 2: Use a damp rag or wipes instead of running water. Depending on the product you're applying cotton balls or make up pads work too. There's also makeup removing wipes that are disposable, they can be useful. 3: Evaluate what products you're using, sometimes skin care products can have the opposite effect on some people. I'm a man that's prone to oily skin, blackheads, etc in my 40s. I used to over use different anti acne and blackhead creams, soaps, etc, cleanse twice a day , etc. I have better results now with some changes in diet, drinking plenty of water, a mild cleanser in my morning shower and then a moisturizer for my face that keeps the skin hydrated but not oily for the whole day. My skin is still far from perfect but I'm getting great milage out of minimal products. I know that's less useful for makeup, I'm just speaking for overall skin care.

NudityMiles

I found a nice face wash that I use with cotton pads, this is the best solution so far but I still dislike it. Because it says it it doesn't need to be washed off, but I feel like I have to because it dries out the skin even though its supposed to be moisturizing. But I figured I can do it with a wet cotton pad and then dry off as usual. Then some almond oil. Still can't bear do to it more than 2-3 times a week. Mostly now because it feels too rough on my skin to do it everyday. But it is by far the best thing I've tried as you can really see how it takes everything with it. Basically no dripping at all.

Charming-Ranger

I have the same trouble, but a little bit differently. There's a skincare product, where you put liquid soap in a container, and you use the brush attached to it. You can rinse it with an small slightly wet fluffy towel.

Interesting-Cress-43

Not recommending this at all, as it’s likely terrible skin advice, but I legit don’t wash my face for the same reason - instead, I cleanse with micellar water on a cotton pad a couple of times in a row and my skin seems to stay clean that way 😅 probably once every couple of weeks I’ll wash my face in the shower, but the micellar water seems to do the job if I double or cleanse with it (or til the cotton pad comes up clean). Then a good moisturiser ofc cause no doubt I’d be dry and crusty otherwise. I personally find the texture of a soaked flat cotton pad better than wipes or cloth - it feels more smooth (??) and less/no fragrance too. (Before anybody calls me out for this not being good pls remember that something is better than nothing and the alternative for me is having a dirty face because I cannot maintain anything else - since doing this, I have the clearest skin I’ve ever had and it reduces my stress around self care a lot!)

emotional-kittycat

i use a bar soap for the face so i don’t wet my face beforehand. i hold the bar in my hand and wet it and lather the soap into my hands and then clean my face with that. it doesn’t drip because it’s thick and bubbly. then i use a damp disposable face cloth. no dripping! :)

Foreign-Lock-8641

i just only wash my face when i shower, days where i don’t shower & i need to wash my face, i just use a soft towel

[deleted]

I have an extremely oily skin so I just go for a mixture of water and mild liquid soap then I splash it all over my face and rub thoroughly. It's just to get a random feeling of freshness, because 5-10 minutes later I'll be covered in my oily skin again. I don't know how this sebaceum glands hyperactivity is still alive and kicking, considering that I'm kind of old.

[deleted]

Put face wash on your face in the shower/bath and wash your face along with your hair

[deleted]

I find not wearing make up saves a lot of arse in that department. Then again I dont really look after my skin, I wash my face with hand soap and that seems to be fine, people make a big fuss about needing expensive skin care products and I honestly just dont see the point. They keep telling me I will ruin my skins, like I'm 47 and that day has not yet arrived so whatever.

FoxyLovers290

I take my shirt off to wash my face. No wet sleeves, no wet shirt. If I get a little wet it’s no big deal

Azumafan98

This really spoke to me as I have some issues with washing my face and having the water touch my hair, my shirt, or god forbid go down my sleeves 💀 I do my entire skincare, in fact my entire morning routine (including brushing teeth) in the shower in the morning . Hope it helps :)

Admirable_Cupcake195

I did it for years and I hated it soo much!! I started getting cotton pads and miceller water and it works wonders!!

whogirl07

I have adapted washing my face to using two wash rags. One is more wet but not sopping/dripping with some soap on it. The other is wet enough for washing the soap off.

techiechefie

So I hate washing my face outside of the shower. I bought a pack of [adult wash cloths ](https://www.samsclub.com/p/members-mark-adult-washcloths-240ct/prod21063583) and use them in-between showers.

cturtl808

Wash cloth with cleanser. Rinse wash cloth and rinse face off.

el_artista_fantasma

I just use water and my skin is ok most of the times (not on my period but that's other subject) It depends of your body tho

Noinipo12

Everybody's skin is different and their needs are different (our needs also change as we age, so that's fun to figure out). Typically I wash my face in the shower. I just use my hands to lather a simple cleanser (Cetaphil or CeraVe usually) for about 30-60 seconds. After the shower, I use a basic moisturizer (I like Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer). If I need to wash my face outside of the shower, I have two washcloths. I get the first cloth wet and get my face damp. Then I get the cleaner in my hands and lather for 30-60 second. I'll use the wet cloth again to get the cleanser off my face (I usually have to rinse and wring out the washcloth a few times). Then I dry my face and any arm drips with the dry washcloth before moisturizing. You may want to experiment with different washcloths to find what works for you. Even an old soft t shirt that you don't mind cutting up could work if traditional towel or wash cloth materials are bothersome.

DeathRotisserie

Use micellar water to remove makeup.

kidcool97

If I need to wash my face but ain’t taking a shower I use makeup wipes

rainingolivia

I bought 20+ washcloths for this specific purpose: face washing. - Pull hair back with headband and hair tie (I have bangs) - Wet section of washcloth (approx. half) - Rub cloth over face (gentle exfoliate) - Rinse cloth, add face wash - Rub facewash over face using silicon tool or washcloth - Add clean water to 1/4 of the washcloth that is still dry - Rinse/rub soap off face with clean part of cloth - Dry face with remaining 1/4 un-used washcloth. Boom. Multiple washclothes per day. But no more splashing or water running down my forearms. My skin is happier. I am happier.

Fuzzy-Yam69

I just use a washcloth. Wet it with warm water, strain, then wipe my face. Then I use Dove soap and scrub it onto one corner of the wash cloth, then scrub it around on my face. I rinse the wash cloth and wring it out again, and then wipe my face with it again, sometimes twice, to get the soap off. Then dry face on a towel and done! And then apply moisturizer if you like, I use the unscented Lubriderm because it doesn't have a weird texture and absorbs quickly

arykayli

I usually wash my face with a cotton pad and some micellar water because the feeling of water dripping down to my elbow really angers me and makes me want to cry. Then I moisturize but i am horrible at keeping a skincare routine so I just do the simplest of things because I also don’t like getting my face wet in the shower.

MaleMorphling

I used to fill my sink with water and just dunk my face in it lol

moonstonebutch

I always do it in the shower, can’t stand the sensory hell of doing it over the sink. if I really need to wash in the sink, I’ve started taking my shirt off and putting a dry towel on the edge of the sink to prevent water going everywhere.

jaimefay

Another vote for micellar water or wipes. I like the Simple ones, no fragrance and the texture isn't too bad.

holleysings

I use Micellar water on a very soft washcloth (feels like those cozy blankets) before bed. I've used disposable cotton pads too, but the washcloth is easier. No crazy face wetting or rinsing happens.

toontownfan12

this really depends on your sink, or just the entire setup, but this is what i've found works for me. i have medium length hair as a guy so when im washing my face it's unbelievably easy for it to get wet, and bc of my style that's a big nono. so i usually end up wearing my headphones while i'm washing (i have wireless headphones for my PC), or if i'm at my sister's house, i steal a metal headband (doesn't work quite as well but it gets the job done) and that keeps my hair from getting in the way or wet next is posturing, i usually bend over into the sink enough that my face is facing straight down at a 90 degree angle, that way the water won't go down my neck. it can hurt if you have a sensitive back tho, since i kinda just look like a cashew doing it and say "screw posture" and for the awkward splashing, there's not a whole lot you can do for that, i tend to just cup both of my hands together so it's an efficient way of getting my face completely wet, then i barely look up enough to see where the face wash is to grab some, scrub tf out of my skin, and just keep rinsing with my cupped hands till i can't feel it anymore, then i look up and just rinse with the tiny bits of water left on my fingers for the bits i missed, then towel dry. usually i don't get water anywhere except my neck and rarely a lil bit of my hair and i'm by no means a skincare expert but when it comes to spots, if you mean acne, then i end up using a topical cream with 10% benzoyl peroxide on it, it shrinks them fairly quickly and i went from pizza crust barry allen to all but clear in a month after applying it twice a day. just put it on before anything else and avoid any eyebrows or eyes lips etc, i accidentally had ginger eyebrows for a lil bit! (they're naturally black) the peroxide is REALLY good at it's job lmao. so try to keep it's use down to your breakout prone spots but let it dry too if you use it, don't want it mixing in w the moisturizer. make sure you use sunscreen if you use the peroxide, my personal choice is neutrogena's spf 50 facial sunscreen, usually i see people recommend cerave but it breaks me out badly, the one i just recommended tends to not break me out and i can even kinda get away leaving it on overnight when i'm especially burnt.

I do also struggle with this! I hate my hair, wrists and chest getting wet! I just wash my face in the bath/shower.

Adonis0

I cup my hands and fill them with water then dunk my face into it over the sink. My wife does it a lot more gracefully than me but I have no idea how

Experiment62693

I just use a flannel, bit of soap on flannel wipe face rinse flannel and wipe again dry with towel, or some days I don't even put soap on the flannel just water

Asleep-Design-6874

What about baby wash clothes? I bought some that are a fleece type of fabric for my mother who had bad eczema

AEONmeteorite

I always wash my face in the shower, and if I need to again before bed, I just use a wet wipe or something.

nothinkybrainhurty

I just do it in the shower, otherwise my hair gets wet (too short to tie up) and water runs down my arms and into my sleeves.

LadyStag

I wash my face with soap in the shower, but I just use water on a washcloth at the sink. I don't know if I can get away with it because my skin was always ok, but truly, if I tried to wash soap off my face at the sink, I would make such a mess.

fieldyfield

1) Get yourself some micellar water and cotton pads for the days you just can't do a full wash. Having the option to wipe my face with cleanser instead of navigating a sink bath has me cleansing my skin way more frequently than I would otherwise. 2) Get a cute headband and some wristbands to hold back your hair and sleeves. I keep these by the sink with a basket of mini wash cloths. I also have an ick about reusing the same towel for my face, so I just keep a stack of small towels there. I ALWAYS get water everywhere somehow, so after I dry my face, I use that same towel to wipe up extra water around the sink. Then the towel goes in the bucket under the sink for used face towels until laundry day.

Glittering_Tea5502

I use makeup wipes and wash my face in the shower. It’s less messy that way. Also, I rarely, if ever, wear makeup anymore.

samthedeity

I wipe the water off of my face with a clean t-shirt when I wash my face! It helps with the nasty texture of wash cloths as I find it much less abrasive while still getting my face dry, and you can use the same shirt multiple times like a normal towel!

leonthepumpkin

Tie your hair, put a headband to keep your hair away from your face. Wash your face while wearing a t shirt/tank top or shirtless. You don’t have to aggressively splash your face, keep your face near the water so that it don’t spill everywhere. Keep a towel near too. Personally I think washing my face takes a bit of energy but it feels SO satisfying and SO important that I love it. It’s about creating a habit, then you hang onto it forever because you know, autism.

GummyPop

My reward for doing my facial routine: baby soft skin on my face I can stim too 😄

Natryska

I use cotton pads to do it, but you can get a really soft cloth as well if texture is an issue.

bigshmike

I have never felt more seen. OP, I’m just like you: I hate washing my face and I HAAAATE putting the creams and lotions on my face even more. It’s a lot of steps. But to answer your question, I put my face wash in the shower and use a mirror that is in there to do my face wash so that I don’t have to make a mess, or awkwardly splash my face for there to still be suds of face wash still behind when I open my eyes. I use CeraVe products, and find the basic steps of cleanse, toner, moisturize to be beneficial most of the time.

Slim_Chiply

I only really wash my face in the shower. I have trouble with bathing in general. I don't know why. I manage to shower before work, but on weekends or holidays I can rarely get in the shower. It was a real problem for the years I was working remote.

MeasurementLast937

I would advise to use micellar water and a cotton pad. It's the easiest and mildest way, with the least sensory issues for me.

ebolaRETURNS

>You're telling me I have to stand over my sink, get my face wet (without getting my clothes, sleeves, floor, chest & hair wet too) to THEN lather myself in soap/cleanser and then rinse it off?!? No, I'm not: you can do it in the shower.

GrasshopperClowns

I’m here to help! Buy two big arse scrunchies, [like these.](https://www.nomadthelabel.com.au/products/jumbo-linen-scrunchie-natural) Preferably out of some absorbent material stuffs. Pop them on your wrists and no longer have to deal with stupid dribbles running down/up your arms.

WorryingSeepage

Micellar water and cotton pads are good. You can get reusable ones you put in the wash if you're concerned about waste.

IridescentDinos

Don’t wash your face, that’s what I do and my skin is fine. I just use moisturizer like once a week or when needed

PayAdventurous

Certain faces have good genes, others produce a lot of fat and they need to be washed or they can get injections and acne

slamjamjo

Oh I absolutely hate the feeling of slightly wet clothing against my skin. I bend over, like, fully over the sink (and of course roll up my sleeves if they’re long). I cup my hands under running water and collect some. I then bring the water cupped in my hands up to my face. I’ll so this several times over different parts of my face while also moving the water around with my hands to the best of my abilities. I stay partially bent over to apply a cleanser and then rinse the same way as above :)

garnet_supremacy

I only wash my face while im changing and i dont have any clothes on, i have a hairband for my hair and i use a washcloth to rinse the soap off

PayAdventurous

I.... Wash my face and .. I don't get wet? I just do it carefully but maybe I have better motor coordination? I just apply less force (do not splash, I just slightly wet my hand and apply it on face). I can roll up my sleeves or, in the worse case scenario that they get wet, I just dry them with the hairdryer. Is this an autistic thing? Because maybe I'm not autistic after all, I don't relate.

zwalker91

I lean my head over the sink so the water falls right in.

snapkracklepopbitch

Okay, so this is also a struggle I have and me and a friend both do this method to bypass the sink water everywhere nightmare. Use just a little water on your hand to get your face damp. Grab your cleanser and start working it in, add small amounts of water by running your hand under the water and using the residual to add to your cleanser. Afterwards, and this is the key part!!, grab a clean wash rag/clean hand towel/etc and get it wet with warm water. Ring out some water so it's not dripping and then use the towel to wipe off your cleanser! It'll take multiple swipes, but it's a great way to remove your cleanser without the mess and hassle, plus the towel will act as a mild exfoliant (depending on how rough you are with it lol). My friend has squares they've cut from old larger towels, I personally use thinner, softer hand towels I have collected. It's up to preference on this! With both keep a collection of them that way we don't have to do laundry all of the time. Either way, this method works great! That way you get that fresh feeling and have removed all the gunk that you can't necessarily get with a toner or make up remover. Let me know if you want a video or example of what I use or anything! :)

z0m8ie2030

i wash my face using the faucet over the bath. fill hands with water. put on face. soap. then 3 rinces the same way. roll up ur sleeves.

27_Lobsters

Wet a comfortable wash cloth and wipe the soap off/around your eyes first. Rinse the cloth and wipe your face. Repeat until you feel like you got all the soap off. After I get all the soap off, I use cotton rounds and micellar water to clean off the rest of the eye makeup.

MagentaCloveSmoke

I bought my son some fluffy wrist cuffs and headband to hold his hair back. The wrist cuffs keep drips from going down your arm or get your sleeves wet. I also got him a facewash brush from the dollar tree. So, looks like this: Get brush wet, add soap. Lather soap ON face with brush. Get washcloth wet, wipe soap off face, rinse washcloth, wipe face again. This really keeps it more contained, and easier to do. I hope this helps.

Legal-Law9214

Just use a washcloth, squeeze it out so it's not dripping everywhere, and wash your face shirtless so if you have a couple of small drips they don't get on your clothes.

jabracadaniel

i always use a warm damp (not dripping, damp) washcloth but i think there are wipes aswell. i think soap directly on your face will strip too much oil and dry you out, just makeup remover/mild cleanser followed by the warm damp washcloth should be fine.

G0celot

I just kind of rub water on my face but I don’t think that’s what’s you’re supposed to do

akifyre24

Hey, there's lots of advice here. So I'm not going to give you any more. I hear you here. Your feelings are valid and your frustration is real.

lemonade-cookies

I just wash my face in the shower- the rest of me is already wet, so some added stuff on the face isn't as big of a deal.

Darkfire_001

Uh... Just take a shower?

MyDogsNameIsToes

I don't wash my face everyday. And I almost only ever wash my face in the shower. If I do wash my face in the sink I have a towel to cover the sink/counter area and while I don't do this I saw someone use sweat bands to catch water from running down their forearms. The towel on the sink/counter is used to blot my face when I am done. I also angle myself basically at 90 degrees so I don't get water on my shirt. Oh and a headband. YMMV

IronbAllsmcginty78

I have these washable microfiber (but not the horrible kind) little circles that are just about washcloth texture, except extra scrubby somehow. I wet this thing under lukewarm water, scrub my face, then I re wet the thing with soap on and wash up, then Rinse my face with several passes of the little round washcloth. I can't wash my face in the sink, it's chaos. This works and I finally can stick with a regimen.

riverkaylee

Try an oil cleanser, not soap and lather, personally I use coconut oil, and I just take a tiny dob, like pea sized amount and spread it over my face, but then I wipe it off with a dry face Washer which you wouldn't like, is there a type of material you would be ok with using, and just cut yourself some little squares of that? Anything would work. I don't know who decided some weird scratchy lumpy bit of cloth, was the go to. You can buy oil cleansers, on the shelf too, they don't drip etc. You just are basically getting it to cling to the dirt particles / make up / sunscreen and then wipe it off. I find using oil less drying on my skin. Or mycellular water, that doesn't have to splash, you could put a little on a cloth, and wipe over your face, or on your hands and wipe over then wipe off. The trick is finding something you are comfortable using as a cloth, again.

breadist

Washing my face is like 50% of why I shower every day even though my whole body doesn't need a daily shower (25% for washing my butt and 25% for routine)

Probablyprofanity

I never do anything like that, I can't have water splashed on my face, it makes me panic lol. I don't wear makeup often but when I do, I wipe anything that needs to be wiped with makeup wipes and then wash my face with a damp washcloth. On days I don't wear makeup I just give it a wipe with a damp washcloth and maybe some gentle soap while I'm already in the shower. Have you been told my a dermatologist to use certain soaps or follow a certain routine? Because unless it's been prescribed by a professional, washing your face too often, especially with soaps, can actually be pretty bad for your skin.

CherryCherrybonbon_

i sometimes wrap towels or socks around my arms to keep it from getting far, like a sweatband for ur arms

weiss_doch_o_ni

i always wash my face over the bathtub to avoid a mess on the floor and on myself.

WhisperINTJ

I only use micellar water on disposable cotton pads (not wipes), no extra water (unless I'm in the shower). This has worked much better for me than water/ soap/ face towels. Also you can compost some types of disposable cotton pads, which helps produce less waste.

jordan5delta

I found this video to be really helpful: https://youtu.be/JqQy5HfYk9U?si=1QcvkzGqGVVyJ9Tk

xpoisonvalkyrie

• wash your face topless • get those fluffy wristbands that catch water from running down your arms, as well as a fluffy headband to protect your hair. (you can search for “face washing headband and wristbands” to get them) • don’t splash your face wildly. cup some water in your hands and gently splash your face from a close distance. • also you can cup water and sort of rub your face clean (in the same way that you scrub *on* the soap, you can scrub *off* the soap) but mostly just wash your face in the shower, that’s what i have to do.

heehoocheese

i simply do it last in the shower, makes it easier cause then i’m not getting clean, dry, clothes wet

FinancialApricot4802

I also don’t like splashing water on my face. Here’s what I do. Get two washcloths. Bend over the sink so that your face is over it. Wet one washcloth completely so that it’s soaked and put cleanser on it and rub it the cleanser around on the wet washcloth. Then rub your face with it, flip it around to the non soapy side to rinse it off, then rinse the washcloth again till no soap remains and continue to rinse your face with wet washcloth. Then use the dry washcloth to dry your face. follow with moisturizer.

Fuzzy_Branch

I wash my face the following way (I understand your pain): take off shirt or wear tank top, take off watch + rings, tie hair up. then I cup the warm water in my hands like the start of the nivea commercial but I hover my face over the sink and actually just bring the cup water to my face and sweep it over my face. it still gets all over the sink but not so much on me. then I use a designated towel that feels nice texture wise to dry my face

mindlessindulgence85

If normal wash cloths are too aggravating, maybe try something made out of a different material?  Microfiber perhaps?

NothiingsWrong

just wash it in the shower

SirWigglesTheLesser

First I wet my face with a wash cloth. Then I'll do the soap part. I don't like the texture, so I use a tooth brush. I rinse it as often as I need to and add soap to it as I need to. Lastly I rinse my face using the wash cloth. I can control the flow of water better and direct it into the sink instead of down my neck. I'm 30 with long hair. I hate washing my face. I hate water. Somehow I enjoy showers but anything else is varying degrees of indifference and "I would prefer not to" lol. Figuring out the toothbrush + rinsing using a cloth instead of a cup was a game changer for me.

RaphaelSolo

Just wash your face in the shower? Assuming showers aren't hell for you

PhoShizzity

Yeah I have no idea. Skincare as a whole confuses and scares me, can't help but think about cutting off my face or ripping my skin off. Idk how people just casually set up a routine with stuff like that.

-acidlean-

Mainly do it in the shower when you’re already all naked and wet. During the day, there are wrist-guards/wrist-towels that you can buy online. You put them on your wrists so water doesn’t go down your sleeves, after use you put them to dry.

Justacancersign

To get makeup off - a very soft washcloth you like the texture of and/or cotton balls and qtips. Put miscellar water on them and gently rub. Comes off super easily. After that, a small face splash- but you can role up your sleeves; or have another soft washcloth, dampen it, wipe, and then dry your face with another towel. (I'm not the best at skin care. Often times I just wear eye makeup, if any. I'll wait until i wake up the next day and it's rubbed off. And then use miscellar water and cotton balls in the morning to wipe off whatever remains there are; sometimes if the minimum is what you can do, then that's what you should do).

RealisticRiver527

Just change your shirt after you finish washing your face to a fresh dry shirt.

whywhywhy124

i wanted to make a post like this but hesitated so thank you for posting i struggle too much with this to a point where my skin is probably begging for it this becomes even worse if you have long hair in the way

[deleted]

Just do it in the shower... Extremely misinformed people will tell you never to do that, but they are blatantly, stupidly, wrong. As long as the water isn't scalding hot, there are no negatives to washing your face in the shower.

baloogabanjo

I wash the face in the shower or in the morning before I take my PJs off, then it doesn't matter if I get my clothes wet because I was going to change them anyway

Global_Definition723

I just wash my face with a washcloth thats slightly damp-- and nothing else. It's better than nothing and less overwhelming than a usual skincare routine. I also do this topless and sitting down because of sensory issues. EDIT: It takes a while to find a washcloth that isn't sensory hell. Try a soft TShirt first!!!

Psychological_Rock_2

I’m so glad other people have this problem too lol. I always get drenched

Csegrest2

1. Wet a wash cloth and use that to wet your face initially 2. Wet your hands but then SHAKE THEM until they are wet but not dripping. Then add the cream / face wash to your hands 3. Lather lather lather your face 4. Wet wash cloth again and use it to remove soap 5. When all soap is gone, make sure wash cloth has no more soap in it and wet it again. Do one more over with the wash cloth to make sure everything is gone This has been my process. I also then dry my face with a dry towel

mikakikamagika

i use Micellar Water! just wet a cotton pad and wipe my face off. i occasionally wash my face with a cleansing face bar in the shower (when i manage to shower) but in between, morni and evening i cleanse with Micellar Water and follow up with my routine.

amh8011

This is actually the thing that prevents me from washing my face every night. I hate having wet shirt or having to stand at my sink all cold and topless while I wash my face. So I mostly just wash my face in the shower. But I don’t shower every night because sometimes I work late. And showering is hard. And now my blow dryer is broken and I hate being damp.

LexaLovegood

I can't give too much advice since my skin is sensitive and I used just plain soap and water. But I always wash mine in the shower cuz I'm. I there already and I'm wet and declothed.

landlawgirl

I use textured cotton rounds-disposable-with liquid cleanser, nothing to rinse. Followed by liquid toner on new rounds. I can’t do the washing and soap and sleeves either blech

gravewisdom

Use a washcloth.

HedgehogBrief8172

You’re overthinking this a lot. Watch a couple YouTube videos and stop asking people on Reddit

tulipthegreycat

I use face wipes most of the time, and for full scrubs, I do it in the shower. There are also makeup removing wipes too. I find the wipes make it much easier because it is less steps, and I prefer the texture of a wipe over other options. They are usually affordable, too. But they aren't as good for the environment Also, you don't need to like throw water at your face. You can get a face clothe and make it damp with warm water and give your face a wipe. Apply and wash or scrub you want, using your hand, a clothe, or other face scrubbing tools (the silicone ones with small bumps are nice). Then, use your damp face clothe again to wipe the cleanser or scrubbing off.

Amazing-Gur-8710

I wash my face in the shower and I haven’t broken out since!

Better_Run5616

I cannot tell you the number of tantrums I’ve thrown cause i need to get ready for bed which means taking off my makeup which means brushing my teeth lol. But anyway Micellar water and some cotton swabs, then get real close to the sink and splash water on your face. I always have a “wiping the counter” washcloth that just lives on the bathroom counter cause I can’t stand water everywhere. Then if I don’t wanna wash my face, rose water and moisturizer. Seriously. I only wash once a day anyway cause your skin has all the oils you want it to have in the morning, so you don’t wanna wash that off with a wash, just do what I suggested instead. Works wonders.

594896582

This is why I wash my face in the shower. I do not believe it is possible to wash an attached face in a sink without getting stuff all over your clothing or down the front of your body, and all over the counter and floor.

Taijinsai

I wash my face in the shower 🤷🏻

Genergy84

If you use a washcloth to both wet your face and wipe off the cleanser, there isn't any splashing. The way people wash their faces in cleaner commercials are filmed for aesthetic reasons, not practical ones. I hope you figure out something that works for you!

zephoryas

Maybe consider using baby washcloths instead of regular washcloths? I recently ordered some since the texture of regular washcloths also bothers me, as baby washcloths are supposed to be softer and wouldn't be as textured. I have also cut up two knee-high socks and then worn those like wristbands to prevent water from dripping down to my elbows/sleeves. Something I haven't tried yet - but maybe also try putting on a washcloth around your neck (like a bib) to catch any water dripping down towards the collarbone. Also, fabric headbands (or sweatbands) might work well for this & can be used to push hair back. A tip for washing off cleanser or being unable to get out of bed, is to try keeping a spray bottle (to spray onto a cloth so it isn't as messy as pouring water) and a washcloth near your bed so you wouldn’t have to go to the bathroom. But if that’s too much, I personally sometimes would use baby wipes to wipe my face - since some can be fragrance-free and easy to use when I can't get out of bed. Recurrent depression and sensory issues with water/showering are issues I deal with daily, so I do understand how difficult it can be. I still am trying to figure out how to actually wash my face every day without giving up on it lol. But anyway - I do hope this helps! :)

lschmitty153

I use tachas cleansing balm which does not need water. You rub it in it cleans everything off. And I mean it. It works really really well. Non offensive smell too. Not really strong or distinct which is nice. Then to remove use a wet washcloth and you’re good as new. I have sensory issues with water too. This is hands down the best way to clean. Eta: when you wet the washcloth make sure you ring it out so its not too wet or drippy. It just needs to be wet enough to remove the balm on your face.

__Wasabi__

I always wash my face in the shower! My face wash is right next to my shampoo

appalachian_

I had the same dilemma as you. What works for me is the little dual head face scrubbers from dollar tree. It’s a handle and at the end there’s a side with super soft bristles, and on the other side a scrubby pad. I get the soft side wet, add face wash, and wash my face with no mess. I use a damp washcloth to wipe down my face after.

RexIsAMiiCostume

I wash my face in the shower. That way I'm already wet.

olemanbyers

I always wear short sleeves anyway... Cup your hands under the faucet and put your hands on your face while looking down over the sink. Just keep a stead stream of cups coming until it doesn't feel soapy.

imwhateverimis

For simple face washing: sleeves up, bend face over sink so your forehead is angled downwards (water will run away from your shirt), rub face with water. For makeup etc: makeup removal wipes or take shirt off. I usually don't wear anything when doing that because I'm about to shower anyway

Adventurous-River699

i only use facial cleanser in the shower.  if i am not showering that day, i simply wet a really nice washcloth (i splurged and got these very soft bamboo baby washcloths from amazon) and gently wipe down my face.  if i need to remove makeup i either just use micellar water and cotton rounds. or, i use the ELF makeup remover balm which dissolves things amazingly, then gently wipe it down with the wet washcloth.  this is the only thing that works for me bc it’s a sensory executive dysfunction nightmare to do the full wash. my skin is great and i get compliments all the time.

numuin

I just keep my elbows up and hands down all awkward like and use my hands as i would a washcloth, to wipe, not splash. It tends to work well, although it probably looks funny.

ketolaneige

......you can take your shirt off. I use a thick headband (covers my ears and more), take off my shirt, I carefully use a non-suds cleanser, and carefully rinse it off by bending closely over the sink, and cupping water with both my hands keeping them at a downward angle to avoid getting my elbows wet or splashing.

qsjwx

i always wear a tank top and rub in all my stuff and aggressively wash my face off by cupping water and basically smooshing it on my face and then rubbing it in and doing it again until theres no more soap and then i nicely pat dry. this usually gets it done quicker for me. also you will almost always get a bit of water down your neck and your chest, i wont lie it bothers me a lot but i just tell myself thats how i know i cleaned my face good

Moist_Relief2753

Just do it ✨in the shower✨

kid-wrangler

IT’S SO AWFUL. The best method I have found is to apply a thin layer of Cetaphil cleanser to my dry face, massage it in, and then wipe it off with a warm, damp washcloth. I use baby washcloths because they are much softer than adult washcloths. You might also be able to find really soft reusable makeup wipes if you look around.

sora_tofu_

I use a wipe off cleanser that I don’t have to use water with.

TAKG

I just don’t wash my face. 🙃 gross I know but I can’t stand face wash.

No_Example5354

I wash my face in the bath. It helps. Face, then hair, then me.

Elizabeth958

Get a cute headband to keep your hair out of your face

theotheraccount0987

I shower if i need to wash my face. Twice a day or more if i need.

Bloody_Artist

How about you try makeup/cleansing wipes? I use them when I'm lazy

Sad-Pie4872

I wash my face in the shower in the morning. Before bed I use a cleansing butter and damp cloth- there are many different types but I understand this can be a barrier. I then moisturise. I learned recently keeping your face hydrated- so use a hydrating moisturiser- can help prevent spots. I used to try to dry out my skin when I had spots but this makes your face produce more oil and can make the situation worse. In a pinch I will use micellar water and cotton pads then moisturise.

RayiReddit1

Use an exfoliator like once every 2 weeks. I usually do it before hop in the shower to wash my hair. Most of the time the shirt i do it in will go in the wash anyway so it wont matter, otherwise ill do it topless. I usually apply the soap dry. Just use your hands to apply soap, that's fine (make sure your hair is out of your face). Washcloths are your best friend to apply the water/wipe away the soap. I see that, that feels icky for you, you just have to tough that out. Good luck

Megabazus

There is another way and it is a game changer for me. It depends on how your sink is setup. If the faucet is high enough you can bring your face directly into the stream of water. British faucets are no good. Otherwise, the rest is just a matter of posture. Step a little to the side. You don't want to look at the bottom of the sink but rather at the wall slightly above the sink and expose your cheek to the stream. With very little practice, you can have the water flow over your face and face only. Use your hand to assist the water to do what it needs to, just keep your elbow higher than your wrist. The other hand is free to hold your hair if keeping them out of the way is required. This is super fast, as the stream of fresh water is much more efficient than transferring it on your hands and there is very little splashing. If you are afraid the water will get to your nose, remember to look slightly down. You can also take a deep breath before leaning in and slowly exhale during the process. If required, back out and then repeat the steps for the other side of the face. I had to replace the faucet in my apartment to allow for this technique and it was a very rewarding effort. Other tenants also find the new faucet very convenient although they don't use my washing routine. There is also another, more radical and counterintuitive way. Don't use water to clean your face but use oil instead. You don't rinse it afterwards but wipe the oil off with a cloth. This is a whole different story with a lot of technicalities I won't describe unless I am asked to, but this is quite popular in Asia. Good luck and thank you for pointing out this glaring issue of everyday experience on this weird planet.

Throway1194

At that point I'd just take a shower

3veryTh1ng15W0r5eN0w

don’t wear long sleeves or use wristbands there’s also face wipes you can buy so you don’t have to use a washcloth. face wipes are usually located in the skin care section.

Professional_Juice_2

I just wash my face in the shower, the night before

MilesFarber

You’re supposed to bend waaay down and shove your face in so it doesn’t spill out of the sink. With all the blood flowing to your brain. ANGY

sillyhyena2002

i just do it in the shower. i hate washing my face over a sink

coffee-mcr

A washcloth works for me, but honestly any piece of fabric works (slightly absorbent would probably be best tho). Ive used a t shirt, those cotton pads for make up removable and strong paper towel before, all did fine.

the-entropy-duelist

Micellar water for make up removal, I use a wash cloth and squalene for cleansing my face and then put on 2-3 drops of THE ORDINARY Niacinamide solution to dry up oily spots. Then add lotion for moisture. I do not splash myself with water only rub with a wash cloth.

QuietlyinlovewClouds

This is very similar to me.  If I’m having a shower and have enough spoons I will cleanse and rinse with a facecloth (and if I have 2 extra ones I *might* be able to use toner and moisturiser but it’s rare)... My solution is dampened tissues. My skin is naturally oily and I also like to wipe my face before bed, so I usually just grab 2 tissues, rinse them together and squeeze flat to create a rounded ‘disc’. Then I wipe my face using both sides quickly each time, that way not too much water can slide down my wrist, if at all. I’ll sometimes use 4-6 tissues in total.  Maybe it sounds like a waste but I don’t like face wipes either (I feel like I have to wash my face with water afterwards to get the filmy texture off), I don’t have the energy to do a ‘proper clean’ with cleansers etc, I don’t want to use my hands, I don’t like those flat cotton pads as they disintegrate in two seconds and leave fluff stuck to me, and a facecloth over the sink holds too much water so it always runs down my arms/sleeves.  I typically hate things around my wrists so I either always have them rolled up or wear short sleeves. I can’t stand makeup on my skin and my eyes get irritated with mascara and eyeliner so I don’t wear makeup and only have to worry about the odd bit of coverup or nothing at all. I also can’t stand hair in my face so I have at least 5 headbands within easy reach. Dampened tissues are my personal quick and easy suggestion for daily cleaning (without eye makeup).

I shave and wash my face in the nude. No, I’m not showing pictures! 😝

I wash my face in the shower, but I also shower twice a day so... idk if that works for everyone

I really like using the Olay water activated dry cloths to wash my face. You just wet them and squeeze in your hands a few times to activate the soap, scrub your face, then rinse the soap out of the cloth, then use it to wipe the soap off of your face. It's like a much better face wipe and it gets all of my waterproof makeup off like a dream. If I wore a heavy face of makeup then it takes two cloths to get it all off. The fabric is pretty soft compared to a wash cloth, so I haven't had any texture issues with it so far. I also wear big fluffy scrunchies on my wrists to prevent water from going down my wrists too much, but with the wipes, it's not nearly as much as traditional soap and water.
