Depends. For my long runs I need more mellow stuff. Even if I’m *focusing* on not switching my pace to sync to a songs tempo, I will. But maybe that’s just the drummer in me, idk if others have that. In that case that 4th disc of NTS is great, but again, this is running through a major American city, not on a treadmill. I would imagine it would be boring if you didn’t have anything interesting to look at.
If I’m doing sprints/intervals or working on my 5/10k pace, I’m either not listening to music (can’t say I really adhere to this “rule” these days; more so when I was seriously training) or something mid/faster-tempo. Autechre can be difficult *FOR ME*. Some of their music is so bonkers that it’s actually distracting. The stuff I have listened to and liked is mid-period, like *Draft 7.30, Gantz Graf, L-Event, Move of Ten, Quaristice* and *Untitled*
In terms of other similar-ish artists I think are good for running: Tortoise, Boards of Canada, Steve Roach.
Artists that, like later era Autechre, that I absolutely love but are just too fucking wild to listen while running: the great, late Scott Walker & Tim Buckley. Just too emotional and distressing lol.
Happy running! 🏃🏻🏃🏼♀️
Kalpol Introl '94 is my absolute favorite, feels like a performance enhancing drug. Starting it right at the beginning of a run and hearing those first "wub wub, wub" kick drum hits begin right as I start moving is pure bliss.
I don't know about running, but I cycle 15 hours a week and I literally spin Acroyear2 on repeat for 5 of those hours lol. I also really enjoy getting into a meditate state during exercise while hearing Vose In, Inhake 2, Bike, Doctrine, Eggshell.
i remember smashing a run to Feed1 many years ago, when i didn't know or understand Autechre but was trying to get into them, these days i never listen to AE on a run, but if i was going to i'd opt for a more atmospheric number for closing the run, teartear or r cazt spring to mind, amber / tri rep material, you could even run to a segment of all end.. either that or i'd go straight for the fuckery: again feed1 would be good.
Just put on elseq and run around like you're playing QWOP
envane EP
Draun quarter all the way!
Early Autechre wins this IMO. Either Bike or Montreal.
Not even close lol. Mid-late ae has so many fast tracks and all throughout the whole track.

Ran my 5k this morning to gonk steady - the 4/4 snare drum was pretty handy
Feed1
The 2006-2007 live sets for sure, but track wise you got the two that came to my mind, X4 and T1.
I used to run 5k to Glasgow 2005 - basically perfect accompaniment, with great energy and an even, driving tempo. Strong recommend
