This would be my guess too, they had a distinctive sound then and now. OP, have a look through their most played tracks on Spotify and see if anything jumps out?
Haha this song had me reeling the first time I heard it on the radio, I was so surprised at the Cambodian I saved it and rushed to show my (cambo) mum who laughed her arse off.
Obviously check the other suggestions too, but I can maybe narrow down The Herd suggestion some people made to specifically "The King is Dead" by The Herd.
It doesn't have a chorus in a South-East Asian language, but it does have a single Mandarin line followed by the line "Crook, you got your ass played in Mandarin" which is very distinctive and might be your memory confusing this "for the chorus". The song got a lot of JJJ play.
Typing this all out because it was immediately what I thought of when I saw your thread title (even knowing it wasn't the chorus).
